Secret of Mana Remade for Sony and Steam

Here's one out of left field: Secret of Mana, also known as Seiken Densetsu 2, is suddenly getting a PlayStation 4, Vita, and Steam remake. It's going to redo the original game using rendered 3D objects, add in voiceover in (at least) Japanese and English, a re-arranged new recording of the musical score, and more. The game will be released worldwide this coming February 15.

As usual, Square Enix are doing some unique preorder bonuses; preorders on the PlayStation store will include two sets of skins for Randi, Primm, and Popoi as well as a set of PSN avatars. On Steam, orders made between now and the end of the first week of release will get the costumes and a desktop wallpaper image. In Japan, a collector's edition will be available that will include the game, a pop-up art book, a music CD, and figurines of the main characters; orders from Amazon Japan will include a copy of the original 1993 instruction manual. No word yet on whether either of those two options will be available in the West.

At the time of writing, the English website appears to be down, but you can see more at the Japanese site now.

Can't say I particularly care about the 3D modeling. Much more intrigued by the reworked soundtrack, the updated gameplay system, and the "new content" (whatever it is, I hope it's worth that $40).

All that said, call me tempted!

In any case, didn't I very recently mention that Secret of Mana hasn't been remade yet?

Maybe I should mention more not-yet-remade games.

Kick drums with a very low ms delay setting, like 50-80 or something if I remember correctly. It was kind of weird in percussion, featuring stuff that would require double- and triple-kick pedals in real life.

All told I am stoked as all get out. This is one of my very favorite games in history and I must play it, get out of my way I have money here in my hands.

I'm not sure if it's what you're talking about (were you talking about the bass drum?), but I was talking about the weirdly loud snare drum.

Elena99 I didn't get to play much of this game the first time I encountered it (a friend had it and wouldn't lend it out, so I only watched her play sometimes) so I'm looking forward to getting this and actually playing it.

You know it is weirdly loud, and I don't disagree.

The drum mix was very aggressive, altogether. Really, there oughtn't be that much kick, it just sounds too aggro to me. I prefer the sound of what a natural drummer is likely to be able to do...but to each their own. I understand my preference isn't what's popular.
