Nomura Discusses Final Fantasy V and VI Remakes

Final Fantasy VI
Obviously, this week's news of the long-teased Final Fantasy VII remake has stolen the Square Enix spotlight. But, what of other, similarly-teased projects like remakes of Final Fantasy V and VI?

As quoted at VentureBeat, when asked about remakes of other games in the series in the wake of Final Fantasy VII, Nomura responded, "Considering that we have remakes of Final Fantasy up to IV and then we have VII Ive been working with Mr. [Yoshinori] Kitase since Final Fantasy V, and weve noticed that V and VI are missing. That bothers me. How come we skipped over those two?"

This is idle chatter, of course, but if anyone's going to get those projects off the ground at this point, Nomura would be the prime candidate. Clearly, there's no other information about the status of these projects, but one could (and should, friendly CoN posters) speculate wildly in the comments below.

fatman I've not properly played any of the games before FFVII so I'd be very interested on playing them if they were remade . FFVI has always interested me.

Death Penalty I feel that the hardest thing about a full console FFVI remake would be the sheer number of characters. You've got to get all 16 of them into scenes, and that's an awful lot of people.

The "challenge" of remaking the entire world is, of course, one of the exciting things that a remake of FFVI would offer its team (same, though to a slightly lesser degree, with FFVII), but there are many storytelling and structural aspects of the game that are distinctive to early-1990s JRPGs and thus less likely to appeal to the larger market that a large scale project would require. These would have to be addressed: and they may result in a game that feels quite different.

A lot changed in the three years between 1994 and 1997: Final fantasy VII, in its original form, seems (if not more conducive to a remake than its immediate predecessor), much closer to currently-viable RPG storytelling / progression.

Of course, if a FFVII remake turns out to be hugely successful - it's hard to imagine it being financially *un*successful, but it would need to get an "exceeds expectations" on its report card - then the ambitiousness of a FFVI project would suddenly seem much more surmountable.

.....which, obviously, I'm very much hoping for flag-red.gif

Magitek_slayer Considering how much square enix messed up by putting ff6 on a phone with worse graphics and more cartoony look than the original:This would please the fans.

For that matter:I wonder what is going to be changed in the ff7 remake? I hope new content and better ap is added.Maybe more stuff to be won at the chocoobo racing, because that was fun.

For ff6:I doubt the characters will change that much, except maybe Kefka, since enix has decided to go with dissidia type kefka, which for me feels different.

I like the gameplay for ff5 6 and 7, so I hope it isn't ruined.I am looking forward to the ff6 remake, as I haven't played in years, because I know it by heart, and there is really nothing for me to do, except abuse wind God gau and psycho cyan, but then I would lose interest.

In my opinion friends:Be very afraid, because I have a fear that enix is going to ruin the games.Enix turned cloud strife emo in advent children, and setzer into a jerk in kingdom hearts 2, and squall into a jerk in dissidia.

Enix has a track record of messing up a bit already. Some liked dirge of Cerberus, others who were ff7 fans hated it.

Maybe I'm wrong and being too pessimistic.
