New PSP Peripherals

PSP
Sony may have taken a hit in the handheld market with their overpriced and under-purchased UMDs, but they show no signs of giving up their attempt to turn the PSP into the ultimate multi-functional gaming device. Two new peripherals announced in Japan expand the PSP's potential uses for around $50 a pop. For 5000 and 6000 yen, respectively, Japanese gamers can be the proud owners of the Chotto Shot and GPS Receiver.

The Chotto Shot is a camera that will also ship with software for editing images and video and will go on sale November 2 in Japan. The GPS receiver will function as a GPS device, but its capabilities will also be incorporated into future PSP game releases. The GPS Receiver will be available December 7.

Both peripherals will have their debut starting September 22 at the Tokyo Game Show. So far, no release dates or prices for regions outside of Japan have been discussed.

Zeromus_X Eh...I guess having an all-purpose portable gaming multimedia system is something to aspire for, but I don't really see the point. Still, it's rather interesting nonetheless.

fatman Considering the amount of PSPs sold already, I think it's already succeeded. Well it certainly has here in the UK anyway.

I would get a camera device for it, if it is released here. And I would consider the GPS thing, sounds interesting! But we'll see if it is released over here first. Nice to see Sony not give up when they aren't automatically winning for once.

To make a foothold in a market that has so far been a monopoly for nintendo and not throwing in the towel after a year is success enough. It may not have toppled nintendo, but it has not failed utterly. But this does seem like a cheap and cheerful effort to get a little more life from the PSP. A camera could be useful, but a GPS locator... So, just in case you don't know you're in City X...

Hamedo The camera portion interests me. I doubt the GPS function will do well.

yeah but for 50/60 dollars a pop, I could get a cellphone that can take pictures and record video, while getting great reception for $27

going multi pupose means that they are now competing with other multi purpose hand-held devices, so they're expanding their competition.

Sadly I still believe PSP will fail, unless IFF sony releases at least 10 good games, new games, not over using a franchise like GTA
same goes for the overpriced PS3.

Edit
and that cellphone was bought from cingular, a nokia model
