New Information on Final Fantasy XIII

Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy XIII Producer Yoshinori Kitase recently revealed some interesting titbits on demos and PAL releases for FFXIII. Following the recent release of a blu-ray demo in Japan, the prospect of an English demo was always on the cards. Kitase however has stated that the demo would not be on a disc, but if there is one, they are thinking of making use of the Playstation Network and XBox Live to release the demos as downloads.

He also stated that localisation, translation and English voice recording is already underway partially, which hopefully means a fairly speedy translation to English and a release date for North America fairly soon after Japan. Those of us in PAL regions will be thrilled to hear Square's famed ability to quickly release their games in PAL regions after the Japanese and North American versions come out is being upheld, with Kitase saying those of us in such blighted regions can expect to see it "within a year" of the Japanese release.

The most interesting news of all this is of course the prospect of the demo, and sarcasm aside it is nice to at least hear something that can let us guess release dates for outside Japan. However, the word on the demo is still leaving the bases covered on Square-Enix's part. Potentially, this leaves up in the air the question of in what format, if any, American and EU gamers will see a Final Fantasy XIII demo.

If we're waiting that long, we might as well just wait a bit longer until the 'International' version is released in Japan, then take that one instead. I had a small inkling that Microsoft might have pushed for a quicker release outside of Japan, but obviously not.

Bum Rush Blitzer I was reading the FF XIII wiki and noticed that because Magic cannot be used outside of battle then every party members health will be restored after each battle. I'm assuming that includes status effects and the like also. What do you guys think? I haven't played any of the most recent FFs so I'm not sure if they've done that before.

Del S Well, status has failed to carry over to the next battle in some games like 7 and 10, the latter even having KO'ed characters back with 1HP, but fully restoring health sounds like it might be a little too easy. Maybe lack of magic outside battle balances that, but it does seem like it could be a Marmite change. Some will love it, others will want to kill it with fire and purge the ashes with holy water and dettol.

Well, for what it's worth, Mega Man Battle Network did that.

Though it's more easily hand-waved in a virtual world than in a fantasy setting of (semi-real?) flesh-and-blood creatures typical of FF games.

Well, if they heal you completely then I agree that it'll be too easy. But if they don't, then it will be more difficult, bc you'll have to heal with items.

Are you sure you are automatically healed after every battle?

Bum Rush Blitzer That's what it says on the Wiki. It credits IGN in the footnotes.

That's interesting. Just read the page. It seems that they are taking the route of games like COD4, where you can automatically heal or regenerate. I guess they will make the battles tougher. They'll have to, bc all of the other FFs are all about healing between battles. Cuz you don't really die after one battle, you know?
