More Distant Worlds Shows Added for Final Fantasy's 30th Anniversary

Distant Worlds
Many new shows were announced for the Distant Worlds concert tour back in December, but many more have joined the tour for the celebration of Final Fantasy's 30th anniversary. The expanded tour dates span 8 total days across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
The larger list of tour dates intrigues me as a citizen of Chicago, so I'll be getting my tickets as soon as they go on sale tomorrow, 14 February. It was well worth my time the last time I attended and I can't wait to go back, especially since I now know that there should be abundant 3DS StreetPass opportunities. Anybody else going to get tickets for one of these shows, or one of the earlier-announced dates?

Rangers51 I'm still headed to the NOLA show at the end of March. It will be my second time.

AltheaValara Chicago is on September 16, not the 26th. Easy for me to remember as it's the day after my birthday. Mom and I will be going to the 3:00 show. I'd prefer to go to the 8:00 as well, but I currently have no income and mom doesn't want to be out late. As usual I'll write a review after the show.

Rangers51 Quite right, I fixed that typo. smile.gif

Thanks for the correction! I'll be at the 8:00 show.

AltheaValara Another Distant Worlds concert came and went:mom and I went to the 3pm show in Chicago today. I've honestly lost count of how many I've been to. I think this was the 8th! It was excellent, as always, though with all the tracks from Final Fantasy VII, it felt like an advertisement for the remake. Here's the set list.
1. Prelude (Final Fantasy series)
2. Battle on the Big Bridge (Final Fantasy V)
3. Victory theme (Final Fantasy series)
4. The Oath (Final Fantasy VIII)
5. Flash of Steel (Final Fantasy XII)
6. Searching for Friends (Final Fantasy VI)
7. Fang's Theme (Final Fantasy XIII)
8. Theme of Love (Final Fantasy IV)
9. Cosmo Canyon (Final Fantasy VII)
10. Not Alone (Final Fantasy IX)
11. Apocalypsis Noctis (Final Fantasy XV)
12. Liberi Fatali (Final Fantasy VIII)
13. Opening Bombing Mission (Final Fantasy VII)
14. Somnus (Final Fantasy XV)
15. Torn from the Heavens (Final Fantasy XIV)
16. Syncho de Chocobo (Final Fantasy VII)
17. Hymn of the Fayth (Final Fantasy X)
18. Zanarkand (Final Fantasy X)
19. Maria & Draco (Final Fantasy VI)
20. Final Fantasy Main Theme
21. Aerith's Theme (Final Fantasy VII)
22. One-Winged Angel (Final Fantasy VII)

We saw a few cosplayers, though not as many as at past concerts. I spoke with a really excellent Terra, who admired my Tonberry. I also saw an Advent Children Tifa, and another excellent costume, a Zidane.

Mom said "wow" at the end of Apocalypsis Noctis - it was her first time hearing it, and only my second. It's certainly epic! I was not surprised they played Theme of Love, as it's one of Uematsu-san's favorites. I was surprised when they didn't do the chocobo theme before the intermission, as that's kind of a tradition. It was nice hearing a different version of it when they did play it, and of course Liberi Fatali is a favorite of mine so was a great way to end the first half.

Searching for Friends felt off. Not wrong, just that the phrasing wasn't quite the same as what I'm familiar with from the OST. It was still excellent, though! The Hymn of the Fayth wasn't the version with solos, but rather the full chorus. It was nice to hear Zanarkand as that is the song that started my Final Fantasy story, but at the same time, it would have been nice to hear a different track from the game.

I commented to Mom afterwards that I wasn't sure if I was happy they did Maria & Draco, or if I would have rather heard Dancing Mad. The latter is just SO GOOD performed live on the pipe organ. I was pleased that the main theme was the first encore song - it really deserved to be played at this anniversary concert.

Confession: I used to hate Aerith's theme. It's grown on me, though, and they did a good job with it. I rolled my eyes at One-Winged Angel. It was expected, but I am DONE with that song. We bugged out of there as soon as it was over, as we wanted to get to the merchandise table. We bought Distant Worlds IV and listened to it on the way home. I think I like it better than DWIII.

I brought my crocheted Tonberry, who was a huge hit. A rather cute guy stopped to take a photo of it, and a woman literally bowed down to me when she heard I had made it.

Rangers51 I believe that Neal was actually at the same show, but in the evening, AltheaValara. At least according to my text message history. smile.gif

I'd heard that the Chocobo medley was going to be differently arranged for the 30th Anniversary series, changing it up from the version that was mostly Mambo de Chocobo + the FF13 chocobo themes. Did they really just do Synchro instead?
AltheaValaraComment 7: 2017-09-20 16:54
AltheaValara Yes, they did just do Syncho de Chocobo. It was nice to hear a new one, but a new medley would have been awesome.

It turns out a friend of mine was also at the 3pm show, but we didn't know we were both going, otherwise we would have met up. It would have been great to finally meet her in person as she's pretty awesome.

I am still thinking about the amazing Zidane I saw. I should have asked them if I could take a picture.

But she's not at CoN? For shame!

AltheaValara Heh. She knows of CoN - I posted about the Regalia Championship in my journal (I've been promoting it everywhere I can think of) and she said, "Wow, they're still around?" So she has at least visited the site in the past.

Story of my life. If anyone's going to drag new folks in for Regalia, it'll be you! biggrin.gif
