Lunar: Silver Star Coming Soon... Again

PSP
When you think of an RPG that's been released many a time, you might well think of Lunar: The Silver Star Story. Originally released in 1993 for the Sega CD, this game was re-configured and re-released for the Saturn, the PlayStation, Windows, and even the Game Boy Advance over the last fifteen-plus years; now, in 2010, yet another version will be dropping for the PSP.

XSEED, the developer producing Silver Star Harmony (as this version will be known), is calling it "definitive." That seems a bit of a high claim for a game that's already seen so many versions, but if you are a Lunar fan and want to find out, you've got two options. The standard version will set you back thirty bucks, and will give you just the game; the limited edition is just ten dollars more but throws in a newly-compiled soundtrack CD and a package of thirteen collector cards with the "Girls of Lunar."

laszlow We reported on this several months ago (and you say I don't newspost enough). The bundle doesn't seem quite as extravagant as some of those old Working Designs package deals, but it is nice. I'm pretty sure that the "Girls of Lunar" cards are just printed copies of the Bromides from the PS1 version of the game.

Rangers51 Ha ha, so we did. But you still don't newspost enough. I guess the special edition is a good enough post, though. smile.gif

That's what I get for posting from a bloody airport, I guess. Too distracted.

Nytecrawla Hrm, again? Well, the 'Special Edition' sounds woefully sub par to the treatment it got on the PSX. Iirc, it came with a cloth bound book with original art, a cloth map, a special features disc and a 2 disc soundtrack. The memory is a bit fuzzy on that though.

Death Penalty I might have to keep my eye open on this one, as I always was toying with purchasing the two PSX-ported Lunar games. Of course, it's much easier to buy new than used over ebay/amazon. That and freetime=0.

No, you're right about the contents, I think, and you're also right that the new one is a bit chintzy. But you're also talking about a game that frankly isn't going to sell that many copies - the fact that they're doing it at all speaks to how enthusiastic the fanbase for this game is.

Shiva Indis I'm a little glad that Xseed isn't going all-out on extras - for one thing, my appetite for game-related knickknacks isn't what it used to be, and for another I'd rather they make improvements to the game itself. There's no guarantee that the one leads to the other, but I hope it does.
