Lufia: A Legend Resurrected

More like Lufia: A Whole Damn Series Resurrected. Square-Enix is bringing back the cult favorite Lufia series (known as Estpolis or Estopolis in Japan) in the form of Lufia: A Legend Resurrected (Estpolis Denki: Yomigaeru Densetsu in Japan), a remake of Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals. The game will be a 3D action-RPG for the DS, bringing back the series staples of complex dungeon puzzles and customizable spells and special weapon attacks, but forgoing the traditional turn-based system for an action battle system where party members can perform team attacks.

News of this revival dropped last week in Japan's Famitsu magazine, with a second Lufia spot appearing this week explaining the new battle system. Lufia's developer, Neverland Software, whose more recent games include the Rune Factory series, is running the show once again, this time with Square-Enix producing. If Legend Resurrected is even half as fun as its SNES predecessor, then expect laszlow to make this a day-one purchase.

Gigantuar Not a series I really know much of... Should I consider getting this remake to test it?

Yes. At the very least try this and then go back and play the older ones. The first game is almost revolutionary in that it has a New Game + mode, way before any one else considered it.

Just give it a shot eh, Taito did good things back then.

Fadien Lufia 1 was just Okay IMO, but Lufia 2 was amazing. This is, without question, going to be a buy for me. Lufia 2 is on my list of the top 5 RPGs of all time. I hope it makes it to the U.S.

Neal Holy cow, that is awesome. Lufia 2 is one of my favorite games ever - this is going to get some serious play time from me.

leilong To resurrect myself back into this form, I have one thing to say about this news:

It will be nice to do Lufia 2 again, as I really liked the integrated puzzles it had the first time through. The new battle system should prove interesting as well, as I think that combined timing attacks was always a good place for RPGs to go to.

We'll have to see what they do with that 100-level dungeon too. biggrin.gif

Dragon_Fire Lufia 2 was probably one of the best RPGs I've ever played, and to this day remains a personal favorite. I still cringe thinking about some of the puzzles involved.

I'm curious about the changes they'll make, but regardless, will definitely be picking this up.

Shiva Indis I will be following this one closely. happy.gif

Gotta say though, those redesigned characters are creeping me out with how non-high fantasy they are. The more info comes out, the less it seems like the Lufia 2 I remember. Not that I'm upset, though - it looks like it's going to be a novel experience.
