Quote (Death Penalty @ 16th September 2010 18:13) Aside from what we already know about <a href='http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/news/article/square-enix-news-tidbits-a-time-sink-approaches/'>weekly leveling limits,[/URL] Square Enix has put in additional checks to prevent players from going level-crazy. According to this fellow over at IGN, there are several aspects of the game (such as a relatively limited number of solo quests) that encourage/force the player to enter into multiplayer pursuits or explore additional areas of the game. This isn't sitting well with me. I like MMORPGs but I don't like being forced to play multi-player. That's one of the reasons I eventually switched to WoW instead of sticking with FFXI was because I couldn't progress enough on my own. I play online games sporadically and being dependent on other players for progress makes that difficult. You basically have to re-make friends if you want to progress if you haven't played for a month. Will I still probably get the game? Yeah I 'cause I'm like that but it's still disappointing.

I know what you mean. I don't play MMOs, but my brother plays quite a bit of Monster Hunter Tri and getting in a decent group is always an issue. At the same time, though, I would expect that to be one aspect of the game that we could veru well see expand once FFXIV gets out of beta. I think these limits on single player leveling/quests are to encourage more casual MMO-ing, but I'm not sure how successful they'll end up being.
