Final Fantasy XI Pricing Info for the PS2

Playstation 2
Square Enix revealed much new information on the upcoming North American release of its MMORPG at the Sony Gamers Day conference.

The planned launch date for the Playstation 2 version is March 2004 and the price is going to be a heavy one. The game will cost $99. The cost includes the hard drive that will be bundle with the game. Note that the game will not be available separate from this bundle. Besides this initial cost, players will have to pay $12.95 monthly subscription fee.

The PC version of FFXI will see a release sometime this fall most likely sometime in October. Hard drive does not figure to be a concern here.

karasuman Any info on whether the hard drive bundled with the game will be useful for future games, or is Square just going N64 on us?

Is anyone actually planning on paying for this?

Hanyou I think I remember them saying that the hard-drive would be used for other games and such, with quite a bit of use for their online network. I wonder if when you purchase the bundle, do you get a couple of months free?

Dark Paladin FFXI will undoubtedly be the least popular installment of the series. People will probably only buy this out of extreme title loyalty. After all, a hundred bucks (plus extra payments) is alot to pay for one game.

You get the first month free. After that, it follows the $12.95 monthly fee.

There is always the PC version. I know that $12.95 monthly is still too much for many people (I know it is for me) but there are plenty of people out there that spend that much or even more monthly on MMORPGs.

Dark Paladin When will we get the pricing info for the PC?
SSJ_CloudComment 6: 2003-09-23 01:45
SSJ_Cloud I'm going to go out on a limb and say it will cost the price of a typical PC title, so around 40 to 50 dollars US in all likelihood. I'll look to see if I can find anything concrete.

Del S So... translating to UK/EU money estimates are

about £50-£60 game + HDD.
£7-8 montly fee
£40-£45 PC version.

not so sure about Euros, but i'll have a go

€100-110 game + HDD.
€12-14 montly fee
€80-85 PC version.
(don't know what the euro is compared to the dollar)

thumbup.gif not too bad £$€-wise , then!
still wont buy it. MMORPG is MMOEFTK (massivley mulitplayer online excuse for Team Killing) and there is no team killing in FF XI...
THATS WHY I WANTED IT!!! (5/6 people i asked wanted to kill the short cute things. The other one wanted to go genocidal.)
TiddlesComment 8: 2003-09-23 18:33
Tiddles There's really no point in using a currency converter, since the going rate for games overall tends to be completely different here (almost everything is more expensive).

Just wait for an announcement.

i know nothing about this game, but im gonna take a guess and say its an online FF? and that is a stupidly high price and maybe only one for the die hard fans, which isnt good, i would've thought square would be more interested in getting new fans to buy the game rather than charging the old fans
