Quote What legacy could be better than that? It really struck me with that sentence; so much hangs on that one long-shot game released 25 years ago. I think it's safe to say that for all of us here, it's more than just a piece of lineage as a gamer; if you're spending enough time of your life to participate in a community devoted to FF, it's undeniable that this series is part of your lineage as a person. I know that for me to say anything less than that of myself would be a lie. Happy Birthday/Anniversary, FF!

I'm twenty-six. Final Fantasy is twenty-five and Mega Man turned twenty five just a few days ago. My two favorite childhood series have grown up with me, and I couldn't be happier to have been right there enjoying their primes (NES-SNES-PS1 for Mega Man, SNES-PS1-PS2 for FF). Happy birthday, Final Fantasy.

In my mind, I knew FF has been around 25yrs, but it's still hard to believe. Final Fantasy for the NES, while not my first RPG nor my favorite for that system, still made a lasting impact. The biggest reason I gave FFII a chance was because I had played FFI. If not, I might have very well bypassed the game and thus a whole era's genre.

Quote (laszlow @ 18th December 2012 14:59) I'm twenty-six. Yeah, I'm 26 too, and it's rather interesting and cool how several major videogame series all got their start roughly two decades and a half ago, among them Final Fantasy, Mega Man, Metroid, and Castlevania. I remember I first noticed this when Mega Man's 10th anniversary was being celebrated; I think that's about when Mega Man Legends was first released. I thought it was cool that I'm about the same age as the Mega Man series. And later Iearned that the same applied to a few other major videogame series that had their humble beginnings at around the same time. That said, I only really grew up with Mega Man, and to a smaller extent, Metroid. Renting Mega Man cartridges from the local Albertson's got me interested in that series, and I ended up getting Mega Man X on SNES and Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge for Game Boy. I've had a Metroid (NES) cart for the longest time, too, but I never understood the point of that game until around 2005 or so. Specifically, after I'd actually come to understand the metroidvania genre through Castlevania, and I played my first Cv game (Harmony of Dissonance) in 2004. Final Fantasy came into my life a bit earlier than that; shortly after discovering Chrono Trigger I found this somewhat-more-dated-looking-but-still interesting game called "Final Fantasy II" (i.e. IV) for the SNES, around 2000. After beating that, I moved onto "Final Fantasy III" (i.e. VI), and then FFV, and I started games of FFIII, FFVII, FFI, and FFTA. Haven't touched them in a while, though...
