1.10: Burmecia, Realm of Eternal Rain

Enemies: Magic Vice, Ironite, Basilisk, Mimic

Treasures: δCancer, δSoft x2, δPotion, δGerminas Boots, δProtection Bell, δEther, δPhoenix Down, δTent, δLightning Staff, δKupo Nut

Optional: Blue Magic Update

More

Optional: Moguta the Kupo Nut Fiend

If you go back to Moguta in Gizamaluke's Grotto, he will exchange the δKupo Nut for a random item. If you don't do this now, you will miss out on the next moogle's δKupo Nut. So do it. More

Optional: Stiltzkin's Steals

For 333 Gil, he will pawn off a δSoft, δHi-Potion, and δEther. It's a simple handout which you should do for the sake of delayed gratification. More

In the first area, look for an overturned cart - it protects the δCancer from the raindrops. North, the two jokers you keep running into appear again, throwing two more Type A black mages at the intruders. Inflict Silence if you can to make this battle even easier. Go inside the house's ground-level door when done.

Open the δSoft and δPotion chests and split again. Out by the suburb, take the stairs up to the next level. Inside, get the δSoft at the bottom of the stairs and exit at the balcony (you should ignore the chest you see; it's a Mimic). There's a locked door that can't be opened yet; pass through to the third-floor of the house you first entered. Walk slowly to the chest containing δGerminas Boots or the walkway will fall prematurely. Once you've got it, then make it fall. Exit back down to the ground-floor's entrance (you will have to go back around).

That chest you see on the second-floor walkway is another Mimic, so ignore it if you choose. Use the next room to get onto the balcony, then jump to the next to enter a citizen's former bedchambers. Talk to the wounded soldier who will say there's a bell under the bed. Why, indeed there is - a δProtection Bell is stuffed there. Get the δEther in the dark corner of the room before exiting again. Remember that locked door past the first mimic room? Return there and enter.

After a scene, you will find yourself in a dilapidated house. Enter the ground-floor doorway to view an event that will allow an ATE to play later in Lindblum (you will miss it if you don't help out here). Some people are sticklers for seeing all that stuff, after all! Go up the stairs outside, cross the balcony, and enter the next door. A δPhoenix Down and δTent chest are right nearby, while the chest you see at a dead-end leads to a Mimic - avoid.

In the dreary fountain plaza, enter the northern armory to get Freya a new weapon, the δMythril Spear; the other door leads to a save point. Open the chest in the back for a δLightning Staff, at which time Stiltzkin will come in out of the rain. Deliver your letter to Atla and check out her moogle shop before you buy from Stiltzkin. Buy from Atla:
Pick up Atla's letter for Monev and get her δKupo Nut before going back out into the rain. Head up towards the palace promenade.

As Zidane, select "Leave her alone" when prompted. Inside the palace, there's a nice (nice) greeting that one gets.

This battle is unwinnable, but it is possible to not lose, so to speak. The battle runs on a timer, at the expiration of which Beatrix will use Stock Break to reduce your party to a single HP each and automatically end the battle. With that in mind, slap Beatrix with Slow (it's the only status you can put on her) and bide your time, using δPhoenix Downs to heal. All her attacks are single-hitters except for Stock Break; this makes Freya's Reis's Wind a lot more useful than bosses with affect-all attacks. 'Shock' deals enough physical damage to deserve respect; the only element she will use against you is thunder. Given that we're just stalling here, you don't have to take any offensive action – try to steal that δMythril Sword, though; you will see why come the second disc. It's notoriously hard to steal, however, so know that you can get another later if it just isn't in the cards this battle.

Nothing but a fancy outro for our 'mystery man' afterwards. Save at the prompt, knowing that the POV will change back to the other party members. And that, friends, is the end of Disc One.
