Maybe there is a difference platform-wise, that's something I hadn't considered. I've never played it on PSX, always emulator or SNES. If he does lose 1/8th of his HP on the PSX then that 4000ish HP would not really be that much since he'd drop it a lot by attacking, but the fight would take longer for sure. On SNES he's not too difficult, you only have to heal a couple of times.

I always prepared myself for that battle, also I healed a couple of times...but not more than 20 ( if not less), any way even with 4000 hp, he should die in 8 turns, don't? ( I don't believe he lose HP by doing it, but I'm beggining to believe...)

I only said that theoretically, that since dark uses 1/8th of cecil's HP, that it would take him 8 turns to die if you just let him die.
Whether he does or not, it doesn't matter. Whether you beat him or wait on him, he'ldd ie, unes syou let him pulverize you. -------------------- Fierce Legends Software Battle Designer Fierce Legends Software Website Fierce Legends Software Forums Please post in our forums; we are in need of help and input as we develop the Final Fantasy VI Prequel. |

Quote (Tonepoet @ 10th June 2005 17:16) I've beaten him both ways multiple times but never very consistantly. The Dark Knight usually kills me four or five times before I'm allowed to even get past that point in the game. I'm really not certain as to what triggers that battle to end. I think it is easier to play defensivly though. As a side note, I think it unfair that I be attacked every turn with an ability I never even had. . . . Actually, Tonepoet, he DOES have that move in FFIVj. The one you are thinking of is the SNES release. In FF chronicles, you may use the Dark Wave attack. P.S. Hey Dawezy, I never realized you were a member of CoN. I remember you from TFF.... I was jeg2512003... Oh well. -------------------- Dang. I have always just sit there and let him attack me three times then the fight ends. You can beat him by attacking but it is easier to let him attack you three times and die.

The programmers should have been asses and made it Game Over if you killed him through brute force. Storyline wise it's paradoxical to defeat him this way.
To kill his dark side Cecil had to act in a way that was contrary to what he had learned while in his service under the evil king. That king had basically ordered him to slaughter and do terrible things for him. Cecil sought the power to defeat evil but was informed that defeating evil through being evil wasn't truly defeating it so he had to reject everything that he stood for previously and come to the light, so to speak. So it's only natural that to defeat his dark side which was all about slaughtering and massacreing that he would have to "sheathe his sword". In doing such Cecil rejects and defeats his former ways and steps into the light, to become a paladin, the paragon of all things virtuous and holy. And after giving up his old ways of being a dark knight he can then unsheathe his sword again as a fighter of justice and virtue to defeat those things of darkness. Usually it's the paladin that falls from grace and goes to being a dark knight but the reverse story about a dark knight that rejects his old ways and repents to walk the path of a paladin is so elite it hurts. Especially in Cecil's case because then he goes about cracking every evil guy in their jaw for being evil. Quote (Glenn Magus Harvey @ 17th June 2005 19:53) According to the second edition of Ben Siron's FF2 Handbook, the 'D.KNIGHT' enemy has 1000 HP and "die[s] on his own after a preset time if you don't attack him". www.ffonline.com/media/guides/ff4/ff4-handbook.txt is the link in case you want to check. Hmm.. May have been the original intended HP count for the DRK to have. But I have (and this was quite a while ago) continually attacked him and done way over 1000 damage. So it leaves something to ponder, that guide is based on the original values of FF2 right? some things may have been modded along the way in term of platform. EDIT: and heh, yo Twilight Paladin, whazzup ^^ take it to PM yo. This post has been edited by Dawezy on 28th June 2005 08:06 |

The game tells you very plainly to stop attacking. FF4 was the first RPG I ever played and I was like 7 years old. I've never lost that fight in countless times playing thrugh the game.

Yeah...the game clearly says: "Don't attack" in some way, but I got scared all the time,he don't stop attacking, so I counterattacked. Real hard to kill, but I always thought it was the only way...

Eh? How the heck did everyone NOT figure out that you're not supposed to attack? Just sit there and let him hit you, and the battle will end. I was a little kid and I figured this out.
