Please explain if you don't mind. We do still raise a lot of the funds for CoN via AmaCoN sales, but I know we have a lot more users than we have AmaCoN purchasers. I'd love to know why people do and don't use it (but mainly don't, there's only one reason why people do), so I can try to make it easier or better to use so that more people will use it in the long run.
I realize the poll options are a bit... meh, so please do give us a few words in reply too if you would. If you'd rather PM me about it, I don't mind that either. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I always mean to use it, but forget more often than I remember. In all honesty, the main reason I forget is because I've never got round to replacing my bookmark for Amazon with the AmaCoN link

Well, you already know this R51/Josh, but I use AmaCoN just about every time I purchase something that could be found on amazon. I usually just bring up CoN, click on the link in Josh's signature (usually pretty easy to find on this site

Unfortunately, I don't really shop online. I have yet to ever use Amazon, but, for whatever it's worth, I always imagine that I'll use AmaCoN when I do.

I'm sure there's one buried in the forums, yeah, but it seems like I haven't ever done a very good job of making that direct link available on the site as a whole. I think to get to it on the site you have to do a search for the relevant country, and then the link will appear on the search results page. That's an awful user experience, I'll make a note of that to make it better. Every time I use amazon I use the link conversion tool, though at times I've been curious if I've done it correctly or not.I'd use the search-bar instead to be more certain but it's not quite as effective as searching on amazon itself because the search results are limited and reflect Amazon's alleged M.S.R.P. as opposed to their actual current price, which is almost always lower. I'll have to bookmark that link in your signature.
Additionally, it's been a long time since I've had the chance but whenever I was linking to a product where Amazon appeared to have the best price, I've been making weblinks when discussing electronics on other sites too. I more or less figure if I'm going to direct someone there anyway, somebody might as well get credit for the referral and at least for the time being, this is the first place that comes to mind. Yay -------------------- |

Every time I shop at Amazon...which is super often because I have Amazon Prime. Really, it's become second nature. I pretty much just use the CoNify tool to convert the first item I'm looking at ( http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/amacon/conify.php# ) and then go from there. When I was first starting out, I definitely forgot a lot, though.

I think I did my christmas shopping on it the first year you guys had it but since then it just hasn't passed through my mind. I mean, I see it all the time in your sig but generally when I get something off amazon it's either an urgent or impulsive purchase so converting it doesn't pass through my mind. I'll try and remember more often

i'm in the same boat as TrueBOSS. I don't typically shop on Amazon, or shop online at all, so there's just less chance for me to develop the habit of using AmaCoN.

I shop at Amazon a lot but I rarely come to this site, as I don't have as much affinity with it as the rest of the posters do so I never remember to go through here to get to Amazon. I don't bookmark much either I just type amazon.com so bookmarking won't really help the situation.

Never had a problem using AmaCoN when doing online shopping (which has become quite infrequent of late), but I'm pretty scatterbrained when it comes to it, for some reason. I might be averaging .500 at best.

I don't really shop Amazon a bunch, and when I do it's often for $.99 songs. Tell you what though, I'll ask a close friend of mine who shops at Amazon a whole bunch to start shopping through AmaCoN, see if that helps?

OK, based on what I've seen so far, the results seem about what I expect. In terms of folks not remembering, that's certainly hard to fix, but I will make sure that I get the short versions of our URLs ready to go and more public on the site to make it easier to remember. I can also work on the add-on search engine and make sure it works more easily, so you can search AmaCoN directly from your browser if you like.
Tied to that, the search engine here on CoN could definitely be better. Tonepoet mentioned the prices listed on the search results, which, unfortunately, I'm required to show by Amazon's TOS. I can't actually show the current prices, but I can do a better job of making that clear as well as making the search results more useful. A couple people have mentioned suggesting AmaCoN to friends and family, which is a great idea and I really appreciate it. I do it too as often as I can. If I make the basic links more accessible, that should make it easier to share them with your friends online and off without them thinking that they have to be a member at some nerdy website to do it. For now, they're here: http://narshe.me/amacon-us http://narshe.me/amacon-uk http://narshe.me/amacon-ca Another note, it really doesn't matter if you're buying things that are a dollar, like individual songs, or if you're buying things like e-readers or game consoles. Obviously we get a bit more money for big-ticket items, but we also get more money in terms of percentage the more items we sell each month. If you buy ten songs a month, even that's enough to help earn more, so we don't scoff at the small things. Beyond that, if anyone has any personal ideas that might make them remember more readily, I'd be happy to hear them. There are almost certainly things I can do to help, but since I can not technically use AmaCoN myself, they might not occur to me. I'm pleased to see that nobody has answered that they're just not interested as yet, though Chewbekah's response comes fairly close. So, here's my list so far:

Yeah, I find myself purchasing a book or two every couple months and would gladly send a pittance CoN's way, but I generally don't think about it.
I haven't been coming around here nearly as often as I used to, but I do think that making the links a bit easier to find would help (on the off chance that my comings and goings around here again coincide with my upcoming book-buying trips). |

Edit: I found it on the front page. I'll try to use this from now on when buying from Amazon. This post has been edited by LeviathanMist on 22nd July 2012 06:39 |

oh god, I didn't even think about using amacon to buy my music. I get almost all my music from amazon now but because it's a digital thing it didn't occur to me to use your store. You can expect a lot more purchases from me from now on.

Can't really blame them. Essentially, though, any link you get from me or you find posted on the CoN main site works. They all take you to Amazon, it's just a matter of where.
