I'm pretty mad right now at Bernard Lagat for running like a friggin' moron and not making the finals in the 1500. Not being fast enough is one thing, but not making the finals because you box yourself in for 3 laps then cruise the last 200 is embarrasing. Ugh.
Usain Bolt was just ridiculous in the 100, too. Can't wait to see how he does in the 200 tomorrow. -------------------- Hip-Hop QOTW: "Yeah, where I'ma start it at, look I'ma part of that Downtown Philly where it's realer than a heart attack It wasn't really that ill until the start of crack Now it's a body caught every night on the Almanac" "Game Theory" The Roots |

China Cheated. Yahoo Has the Story. Does anyone know what happens? Does she get disqualified, or does this just get looked past by.
And did anyone else catch the Men's 200M final? I would've never guessed that Usain Bolt would've broken the record, and unless I saw it i still wouldn't have believed it. [EDIT]Maybe they are innocent. Link. This post has been edited by yomama on 22nd August 2008 11:45 |

Bolt was absurd, as was Lashawn Merritt in the 400 tonight. Poor Wariner, I've never seen him tighten up like that the last 100 meters. Darryn Robles was also dominant. I love watching the 110 hurdles, and Robles just put on a clinic. He's never more than an inch over a hurdle, but didn't even brush a single one.
I can't stand the NBC coverage of track. Every time an athlete has a bad race, they've been bombarded immediately after by the most annoying questions possible. When Spearmon was disqualified yesterday, literally 30 seconds later the guy is asking him what's going through his head right now. Probably a lot of 4 letter words that he can't say on the air, ya think? I like how Wariner handled it tonight, just saying "We're done now" and walking away. Edit More crap-they're showing the first events of the decathalon at like, 2 in the morning. Thanks, NBC This post has been edited by Gears on 22nd August 2008 04:21 -------------------- Hip-Hop QOTW: "Yeah, where I'ma start it at, look I'ma part of that Downtown Philly where it's realer than a heart attack It wasn't really that ill until the start of crack Now it's a body caught every night on the Almanac" "Game Theory" The Roots |

I was really impressed by both the gold medal soccer matches. The US Women were really pretty outplayed most of the match, and showed some great mental toughness to keep Brazil out of the net; Carli Lloyd's setup for her own gamewinner was brilliant, too.
I tried to stay up for the live Men's match, but instead only caught the highlights this morning. The lone goal was a very clever piece of work, impressive that Argentina could win two golds in a row. And I'm a bit surprised that Australia couldn't do a better job against the US women in their gold medal basketball game today. I expected it to be a lot closer. Edit Yeah, agreed with Gears, too, btw. Very tacky and not very proper journalism to assault these runners after the biggest disappointment of their lives. I'm so pissed off at Carmelo Anthony at the moment - he threw a pointless temper tantrum at an Argentine player that might have been playing a little dirty (some uncalled elbows and alleged eye pokes), while the other members of the US team either distanced themselves and ignored the conflict or tried to calm Anthony down (both acceptable).
The Redeem Team (I love that name) have been fine basketball ambassadors for this tournament, treating their fans with respect and enthusiasm while saying the right stuff and keeping the antics nonexistent. Plus the NBA fanboy in me practically swoons when I see lineups entirely composed of players I love to watch like Paul, Williams, James, Wade, Bosh, and Howard. But now here's Anthony making a dumbass move that brings out the bad stereotypes and reminds people of nonsense like that Knicks-Nuggets brawl a few years ago. Bad show, Melo. -------------------- |

I'm agreeing with you, Gears. Even though some runners for the US were expected to do well and didn't, it's certainly not the end of US track and field, but those journalists were certainly talking about it like it was. Every Olympics we get disappointed by some athletes, and sometimes it's understandable. Sonya Richards got a leg cramp and right after she went from first to third in the 400 m, maybe because she wasn't getting enough oxygen from the polluted air. Do those journalists have any idea what it feels like running in China? They made a huge deal about the relay teams that didn't make it to the qualifying round, but they just made mistakes.
On a more positive note, Hussein Bolt was incredible, pulling in front of everyone like that. Equally important, I'm really proud of the women's soccer team, too, 'cause they managed to get a gold when they lost a couple of key players. They played hard. -------------------- |
