I did do a search for this, but the closest topic match I could find was at least 7 years old, so I think it's okay if I make a new one.

What do you guys think about Star Trek? Have you watched it? I've watched the entirety of The Next Generation and Voyager, and it's just a fantastic show if you like science fiction. TNG is my favorite (and I imagine most people would agree) but The Original Series and even to some extent Voyager can contend there. My dad's favorite is Deep Space 9, but he's the only one I've ever heard say that.

What's your favorite of the series (serieses? serii?)? Of the captains? I can absolutely nerd out on Star Trek and I wonder how many other people can too.

TNG is definitely the best. Ive seen every single episode I believe. I like voyager and used to watch DS9 as well. I never really cared too much for the original series cause, regardless of its time, looked too fake to me.

DS9 was always the go to for the best writing and characters in the franchise and my favorite show of the bunch, but TNG comes close and is easily the best as a 'Star Trek' show.

TNG was the first Star Trek series I got into, mainly because my Father was a huge fan of the original series and was giving TNG a shot, so we'd watch each episode together as I was growing up. I still maintain the Picard was the penultimate starfleet captain and that TNG has one of the best series endings of any show to date.

I enjoyed Voyager a good bit as well, up until the last season more or less. It wasn't as memorable as TNG, nor the cast nearly as interesting, but it was still watchable. On the other hand, I never could bring myself to care for DS9. I don't know what it is about that particular run that I just found so dull, but I couldn't do it. At some point, I want to go back and give it another chance.

As of right now, Voyager is my favorite series, of only because I've seen more of it recently than the others...

As for the rest, I really like TOS and TNG. Never really got into DS9. And Enterprise...

...Yeah, TOS and TNG were really good...

TNG and DS9 probably my favorites. Picard and Sisko were awesome.

Actually working on a model kit of the Enterprise-E right now. About 50% completed but I'm doing it very slowly to not screw up...

I'm with Narratorway on DS9. It's the only ST series I watched from beginning to end. I, for one, thought it was a nice change from the starship exploration plots of the other series.

DS9 also had who I thought was one of the most, if not THE most, developed villains in Gul Dukat.

The thing with Deep Space Nine is that you have to be prepared for something different. A star "trek" it isn't, being mostly based on a space station. What it does have is a lot of strong characterisation and, especially in the later seasons, much more long running arc-based storytelling, which makes for a pretty good show in its own right.

TNG is still my favourite. I always felt like it had the right balance, whereas the following series split that - DS9 had a lot of the character but little of the adventure (though this improves as the show goes on), whereas Voyager had a lot of "trekking" but almost no soul.

TNG is really the best overall, but I was raised on Voyager and have a pretty big fondness for it. My mom has always been a bigger Trek fan than I have, and I'm pretty sure Voyager was her favorite as well. My favorite captains are Picard and Janeway, but my favorite character from any of the series has got to be The Doctor from Voyager.

I've never been able to get through more than one episode of the original series in a single sitting, and haven't seen more than maybe 5 minutes of Deep Space 9.

I really liked the original and Next Gen. To be honest, I wasn't able to get into Deep Space Nine or Voyager enough to really give either a full judgement; I just wasn't pulled into them. I did watch just about all of the short-lived Enterprise series though, and I liked it. In my opinion it was really underrated. Then again, I sometimes have a tendency to get really attached to something that isn't good so that I begin to think it is...

Of course, I'm a bit more of a Stargate guy myself biggrin.gif

I grew up with TNG, so it's definitely my favorite, but as was mentioned earlier, DS9 had some fantastic writing, to which anyone who has seen "The Wire" can attest.

I'm going through each series by production order; about halfway through TNG.

Loved what I've seen so far, especially TOS.

As someone who's not particularly a Star Trek fan, I quite liked the film. It was a bit transparent that it was very much part of the modern phenomenon of glossy, shiny reboots populated by insanely attractive people, but it was entertaining to watch, for sure. Perhaps it works better for people like me who wouldn't consider themselves fans, hard to say.

I watched TNG through all seven seasons, and it was just a brilliant show. Great writing, great characters, great acting. They really took Roddenberry's original idea of "exploring the human condition" and ran with it. I'm a huge Spock fan, but I really think that Data was probably the best character in the Star Trek universe. It helps that Brent Spiner is such an amazing actor. The original series is classic and I love it to death, but I grew up watching TNG.

DS9 was actually a really good show as well. A little slow at times, especially at the beginning of the series, but they really found their groove later on and it turned into a really interesting take on the Star Trek formula. And I'm a fan of Colm Meaney, so I really appreciated seeing him get a role as a main cast member.

As for Voyager, I watched it a bit into the second season and then lost interest. I think it was a really good idea, but from what I saw of the show they didn't really pull it off very well. And I never watched Enterprise, which is surprising, because I'm a big fan of "The Bakula" (mostly because of Quantum Leap).

I really liked it. I suppose it may be an overstatement to say that I am a big fan, but I have watched a lot of Star Trek in my time and I really enjoyed the movie. It was cool to see each of the characters fall into their proper place as the story continued on. I found the movie's climax to be all of the awesome.

I'm a Star Trek fan, but not a Trekkie and as far as I'm concerned Star Trek: The Future Begins (apparently that is its officially unofficial title) is a fun and quite enjoyable popcorn flick. As a Star Trek movie, it only beats out V as the worst in the series (excluding the TNG ones, of which I only ever saw the first two).

Mostly because it just completely threw out the science fiction aspects of this science fiction series so they could focus on the characters and their personal stories. It's not a bad idea really, as I said, it's quite fun and engaging and so caters to a much larger audience. Still, I can see where it can arouse ire in the more fervent fanbase.

And the fact that the guy who played Kirk wasn't nearly as much a large ham as Shatner. Actually, just the fact that Kirk wasn't Shatner, I think. You see purists in gaming, but man, nothing like the Star Trek fanbase.

Also, the TNG movies are great. All of them. I don't care who says they don't like Nemesis, it was good.

I have never been into Star Trek, and I don't think I've even seen an entire episode of it straight through. This might get me started.

From the third paragraph in that link:
Quote
Episodes from the original "Hawaii Five-0" are included in the package, as are episodes from all generations of the definitive sci-fi series, "Star Trek," and the cult favorite, "Twin Peaks."

Basically, for the next two years, Netflix will stream episodes from all series and seasons of Star Trek. I'm also pumped about the first season of Twin Peaks, which is one of my favorite seasons of television, ever.

I don't think I had much to say in this topic originally because even though T.N.G. is my favorite show of all time, I haven't watched too many episodes to say anything I thought was intelligible. Yes, I have the D.V.D.s but I stopped watching them as soon as I thought I scratched/misplaced one of the discs, since I'm rather picky about being able to watch a series in completion...

But what's that you say? Gene Roddenberry insisted that The Next Generation be shot on film, rather than being shot directly on tape, so Paramount's able to go back and rescan all of those wonderful episodes to be shot in high definition for a blu-ray disc release and they're willing to do start work on it in the original aspect ratio (1440x1080), using the original effects only very slightly tweaked, without D.N.R.? OH MY Q!

There is absolutely nothing I could ever want more, unless they come out with an edition that shows off more of the 35mm film print, which might be somewhat unlikely because many of the shots contain off set elements. Nevertheless, I just can't wait to get these and particularly watch Chain of Command when it comes out, albeit that's a rather late episode in the series and the season 1 set isn't quite out yet. For now I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the sampler disc that was recently released and call it a day.

I don't know what I ever did to deserve this since it seems almost too good to be true. Pleeeeeeaaaase don't drop the ball on this Paramount! Pretty please?
