I'm finally playing through the whole game on PSP. Not even 5 hours in and already I've got a few stories to share. If you've got any good war stories then please share too, just remember the old spoiler tags. smile.gif I'm thinking along the lines of 'worst mistake made' or 'most hilarious moment' but it can basically be any memorable, shareable experience you've had.

First things first despite having played the game a bit about two years ago I got my bum handed to me by the thieves in the second fight in the game, 5 times... Standard mistake in not placing any other team members, so poor Delita and Ramza were being unceremoniously beaten to a pulp with me thinking I must be really, really bad at this game. Not far off actually.

Next I'm thinking I should do some levelling in the way I read about on the CoN guides (keep one enemy alive and keep characters active). After spending a while getting it set up I'm sitting back watching three female Squires torturing a chocobo in a way the CIA would be proud of. They beat him up, heal him with a potion that the Chemist gives him, then beat him up again. "Where's the bomb!" "Kwaaaak!" This is the only time in any FF game I've actually felt bad about killing what I'm fighting.

Lastly, I was fighting the battle with two bombs and the goblins with Algus/Argath and Delita being AI managed. I thought it would be great to give them a Fire and Cure spell to give them range and variety respectively. Instead it turned into a complete nightmare. First of all Delita didn't want to do any fighting; he strutted around the edge of the map and used Cure occasionally, usually missing his target when he did. Apparently a Squire + Cure = White Mage. Argath was a bit better but he ended up killing both my Black Mages by using Fire on a goblin after the Mages and the goblin were Oil'd by one of the Bombs. He didn't care about friendly fire (lol) he was a pyromanical killing machine. I had to actually get Ramza to kill him to stop him from killing himself and others.

Haha. Amazingly epic AI fail right there.

I often had that frustration as well, as I distantly recall. It's been a while since I've done an FFT playthrough (though I've been saving up for the iOS release) and can't recall any particular stories, but I do remember having frustrations with the AI at times. They just never seem to do what tactically makes sense some times, when they're on your side. The enemy? Pft. No problem! It's your own allies you've gotta' watch for, as you've clearly stated!

I think I'm going to make myself a promise, though, on my next playthrough, to give Rafa and Malak an honest try. I really never have much use for them or their abilities, so I think next time through, I'll see what they're all about.

The AI often amuses me and aggravates me. You have to be careful what you teach Guest characters, or otherwise they'll use abilities that are next-to-useless. I lost count of the number of times when Delita and Algus came upon an enemy with no defense on the side they were attacking from, were capable of killing the enemy with a standard attack, but instead decided to Dash them instead and ended up not dealing enough damage to KO them. >_< The enemy does the same thing--they'll target a panel that their ally is next to and then that ally will run out of the area-of-effect range.

I also recall the battle prior to when Meliadoul joins the party. One time, rather than smashing in the Skeleton skulls with Save the Queen, all she did was dump Potions on them. XD

Probably the most miraculous win I've ever gotten was against Wiegraf/Velius in Riovanes Castle. Agrias was petrified, my Priest and Wizard KOed, my Monk and Ramza about to get Dark Holy-ed into oblivion. Figured I'd have the Monk try for Stigma Magic on Agrias--20% chance--and by golly, Agrias saved the day. (With everyone else dead and two Dark Holys and a Cyclops summon all trained on her at the same time--you'd think Velius would have just petrified her again. XD)

40 hours later I've finished it. Unbelievably good game.

I had to look up what Stigma Magic was but that's pretty bloody cool LHL. Speaking of miraculous wins, my favourite was where Ramza had 10HP and was about to be attacked by the last enemy soldier, a Knight. Ramza dodged the attack then Counter Tackled him over the edge of the cliff doing 70 damage and winning the fight. I was just about to reset the PSP as well. It looked like something at the end of a James Bond film.
