I don't think I've ever heard of something more stupid. You have to go around the world and help Mario clean? I mean, wtf is that?

i don't even own a Gamecube yet and if they keep coming out with games as lame and uninspired as Mario Sunshine, I don't think I will get one. IMO, Nintendo is destroying the Mario legacy. Who wants to go around with Mario and clean things? ::sighs:: Nintendo with another dud, methinks

I don't think uninspired is the right word necessarily. It IS original, but I must admit, I've been worried about Nintendo overplaying its "family" type values ever since N64 Yoshi's Story.
That said, Nintendo usually come up with the goods in terms of gameplay. It didn't matter that SNES Yoshi's Island was drawn in a very childish style, because it was just fun to play, and I wish people would pick up and try games and judge them then, based on gameplay, rather than theme or style. It's just that Nintendo make it so difficult these days... |

Yeah Nintendo is going downhill fast... What the hell man?! Janitor Mario. Mario deserves better than to be a lowly janitor. Mario needs to get to his roots of stomping turtles, mashing Goombas, and plan all out beating the life out of Koopa.

Hey, I think a janitor is a step up from a septic-tank-cleaning plumber. And the commercial for Mario Sunshine is kinda catchy...Maybe it'll turn out to be a good game after all. Famitsu seemed to like it.

It's the new trend. Look at Luigi's Mansion: You have this vacuum thingy to suck up ghosts. Mario has a giant hose. What next? Honestly, I don't like where this is going. I have a feeling it's going to be a very easy and short game. Mario 64 looks better, and I was slightly disppointed at it.

I'm not sure why, but when I heard what the premise for this game was, I immediately thought "Backwards version of Mario Paint."
But yeah, I don't have a GC, so the game doesn't matter to me.. -------------------- No deer for a month. |

To me, it looks like a wild stab in the dark for something original in the present video game world... they could just make something like every other game out there, and it would sell millions. Give them credit, they're going out on a limb to make something fresh and new. Same with the new Zelda, anyone seen the screens of this thing? Looks like it's drawn in crayon by a 5 year old. But that's not important, because it's a Zelda game and will therefore rock your houses down to the basement. Before you judge a game based on the initial appearance, take a second to actually TRY it. Just because a movie isn't rated "R" doesn't mean it will be good... in fact, it's more likely to be good if it ISN'T rated R. Same rule here. And if none of this gets through to some of you, just keep hope and remember two words: METROID PRIME.

Actually, Edwin, Zelda on Gamecube looks great. It may look different, but we will get used to it. Heck, we did it with Mario 64. It's not about graphics, it's about gameplay. It's change that may be good, but may also be bad. We're used to seeing Mario jumping on goombas, not cleaning up beaches. It's a huge change, even greater than the jump to 3-d in Mario 64. I will try to play it, although I know about 2 people with Gamecubes, but the change of gameplay already gives me a bad impression. Zelda GCN will be similar enough (killing stuff with your sword, conquering dungeons, etc), but this game is waaay different.

When I first saw the commercial I stared at it for a minute, then laughed. Hey, I'm gonna get it, and hopefully not have to pay a dime. I'm really looking forward to Perfect Dark ZERO, though...

Hey Mario Sunshine doesn't look bad at all. Sure the idea looks quirky, flying around battling goo with a water gun on your back, but let's give it a chance. Plus you don't know the gameplay at all, and it doesn't look lame. First everyone wants something original, and now Nintendo dishes out an extremely original title, and everyone is griping. Besides, with Mario, you can't go wrong! They're just getting a new approach to a classic game.
And as for the little kids, big kids comment, that's not entirely true. First of all, look at games like Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Try to get a 7 year old to play those games. Second of all, have you seen all of the "little kids games" that the PS2 released mostly for "little kids" movies? Of course, I can't argue that Nintendo does offer more to the younger kids, just not completely as you said. Zelda? Please, Zelda is going to own everything. At first glance it's childish, but this game is truely going to rock. You can't go wrong with a Zelda game! I also heard that the gameplay is very good. Not to mention Metroid Prime which looks awesome. Nintendo has some serious contenders coming to their library. Yeah, and Mario Paint was an awesome game. -------------------- I find your lack of faith disturbing... |

I don't know about anyone else, but when I talk about Nintendo's "family" marketing, I mean its own output, not everything on the console. Thankfully, we have moved beyond the times where the crap looking blood had to be censored from Mortal Kombat.
It just seems to me than Nintendo's own software might reach a larger audience if it weren't always so cutesy. The gameplay may be good, but try telling that to your average "lol i liek gaims wit blud haha ur ghey" casual gamer. It does create an impression that the whole console is for kids, among some punters and developers. True or false, that's the way it comes across to many folk, more than you can really afford to alienate. And hence sank the N64. I hope Nintendo, cleaning Mario, and Cute Girls attacking zombies can help stop the same from happening to the NGC (I refuse to use that bizarrely ordered alternative abbreviation unless someone explains to me why the N goes at the end). |

I suggest waiting to play it. Tycho from Penny Arcade, who I do actually trust, has said that the game might be the best in the series, ever. Look past the premise and play it, I think.

It looks to be an enjoyable game... they say that there's more emphasis on jumping on baddies rather than all the punching kung-fu stuff present in Mario 64... that is a good thing, for me at least, because I just didn't get as much of a kick from simply punching those malevolent walking mushrooms.

It's far, far away from tooned out. It's supposed to be very pleasing to the eye. The only major difference is that the game has changed from the classic Side-scroller to a First Person Shooter, which is certainly a big change. Many people are upset with this choice, but I think that it'll still be a great game. -------------------- I find your lack of faith disturbing... |

Well... I agree with Tiddles here. Most people aren't going to buy it when there is a higher action/realistic show of games for another system. I mean, they just now got the first RE game to the NGC. They got RE:2 to the 64 before that!
I'm saying I would buy the NGC if the same main games were provided to both systems. For instance, you could get s Genesis and have MK. You could also buy a SNES and get the same thing plus a Zelda game. Since then, Zelda, Metroid, and all the other games which made Nintendo famous, plus a few new ones, has been all Nintendo has got. Most of the time Nintendo is dissappointing, but then they slam us with a great game, it's those games which make it fabulous. Mario, then Zelda, then Metroid...After a while Star Fox, Yoshi, then Pokemon, then Smash Bros; which smashed ass! All I'm saying is that Nintendo lost a lot of their big players like Square, and Capcom. Sure they threw Nintendo a bone every once and a while, but it never tasted good. Nintendo needs those precous deals with Capcom and Square, and seal some new exclusive talent, this way we don't have to be forced between buying systems...or worse, buying both. I know you guys heard this a lot, but it applies to a lot of Nintendo's situations. I'm sure if they saw this in the eighties when they made the first Nintendo, things would be very different. -------------------- At times one remains faithful to a cause only because its opponents do not cease to be insipid.
