Okay, so I saw this small thing called "Soul of Chaos" in the FFI Advance game, and I saw the guest stars in it.
Ultros, Chupon, The four elemental fiends, Gilgamesh and Shinryu. Now the others I get but, Shinryu?? Why in the hell did they pick him? If they wanted to keep the obvious trend they shoulda' used Enkidoh! He would have been the sane choice. Second, notice they stop at VI? Looking at the sprites it's like they were plucked straight from the other games. They obviously couldn't be arsed to make NEW sprites for the 3Duns. And I'm not even ganna ask why they're even there... >> Other than fan service they seem to have quit working things into the story and just said "They're there now shuddup!!". ~End rant -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

They took some of the most significant adversaries from the SNES FFs and chucked them into FFI.
To make things even, from your list, they took two from V and VI, and took all Four Emperors from IV (having four from that balances out with the other's two since they come as an ensemble). Now look at V. Other than Gilgamesh, what minor boss was significant enough for that game? The obvious answer is Shinryuu and Omega, since they were the "extra" bosses, and since most of the bosses were kind of random and had little to do with the plot. Enkidou was so minor that most people forget he exists. Looking at Ultros' one-time sidekick, remember the Colosseum and you can see why he'd be there. Quote (Mu the Squirrel @ 2nd October 2004 16:16) it's like they were plucked straight from the other games. Gee, ya think? Shinryu was in a box, he wasn't really part of the story. He was a palette swap too! I was thinking more of the partnerships. ^^ I think Atmos was more memorable.

Well, Chupon didn't have much to do with the story either.
Shinryuu stands out because it was the better of the two ultimate bosses. The only "partnership" you can get out of V without having someone as forgettable as Enkidou would be the bosses on top of the two towers - the minotaur and the omni wizard. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Actualy there are at least 3 from FFVI, because I swore I saw some screens of the Phantom Train as Boss in that game (Look it up in the Nintendo Power Magazine back issues that Talk about E3). But I think that there are just the right amount of optional bosses in that game.

No, Chupon (Or rather Typhon) was not a big boss, that's why I said Enkidoh would work fine see. He wasn't big, but for anyone who actually cares who Gilgamesh is they'd want him to see some air time.
Phatom Train? Well, I got mine from the oficial Jap Final Fantasy I-II Advance site, they only mentioned those eight. -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

I'm not saying it WON'T be there, just it's not listed. Who knows...
Well anyway, I still won't be happy until I see a good REASON for them being there...am I the last person alive who cares about story? ; ; -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

If they're just hidden bosses or whatnot, who cares about the story? They're there for a cameo challenge. The story is the most important part of a game to me, but story doesn't always have to apply. |

You do realize that the Japanese site is a promotional, and therefore in all likelihood not a comprehensive list of the new bosses in FFI + II Advance? The header in that section of the site only indicates that the following eight enemies are "examples" of the variety of new bosses present in FFI Advance. I'd imagine the Soul of Chaos is merely present as an extra challenge for gamers who want to see how tough their party really is and a have a chance to score some ridiculously powerful, otherwise unattainable new items in the game. |

The story is the most important part of a game to me, but story doesn't always have to apply. Nono! I blame FFX for this...even uber bosses need reason! more so infact. Possible spoilers: highlight to view FFIV: The treasure guardians, they fit in fine. FFV: Both Omega and Shinryu were writen in as being sealed down there, no questions asked, it's reasonable. FFVI: The dragons were sealled up until the splitting of the world awoke them. Short, to the point, but still with reason. I'd assume the original plan was to have Czar Dragon show up after they were all defeated...shame. FFVII: The weapons were created by the Earth as its defenders. Good enough. FFVIII: Omega Weapon has been taken control of by ultimecia as far as i know. I'm not sure about this one... FFIX: Ozma has slept there for a good while, you find him. oooh...slipping, but it's okay-so. FFX: Fine, the Dark Aeons have reason BUT! The Arena.. "Oh i can make an ultra powerful monster at will under my full contol somehow... i'd send it to fight sin but i'd rather YOU battle it before i vanish with all my monsters forever." They can't be arsed to give reason anymore...when I fight an uber monster I want to WANT it dead. You can't just throw in uber bosses randomly without reason! It steals so much from the very reason of battle! -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

Quote (Mu the Squirrel @ 10th October 2004 23:04) You can't just throw in uber bosses randomly without reason! It steals so much from the very reason of battle! Now, I am a fan of the story myself, and I do care about the story as much, if not more, than other aspects of a game, but... Let's keep in mind, FF1 has virtually no story whatsoever beyond the skeletal frame of a plot. There's no character development, no shocking twist (you can say there's one at the end, but its hardly shocking, and there was no misdirection to make you actually think about it), no personaly reasons even given for the Light Warriors, etc. 4 guys are destined to stop the ultimate evil. Incidentally, you kill monsters and help out some people. So, considering the lack of any real story, having a dungeon of optional bosses doesn't need to have any more reason than there is to fight the WarMech. However, consider the name of the sidequest: The Soul of Chaos. Perhaps the extra area is a kind of spacetime warp the heroes must enter and fight through in order to make sure Chaos' spirit doesn't come back. That the enemies are monsters from other realities could be a showing that Chaos is a force of evil in all the FF Universes, and the Light Warriors from the first game are ultimately the ones who will forever stand against him. Or something convoluted like that. In any case, I think the story of the game is going to be expanded a bit, so I'm sure they'll include a reason for the Soul of Chaos quest. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

Uh... FFI has a huge story. oO All the characters even the Vampire have SOME story. Unless you're playing the poorly transed NES game that is... The fact of the matter is nothing in FFI happens without reason. Everywhere you go and everyone you see you do to advance the plot. Once you 'totally' remove very important bosses from the plot it becomes dry and stale.

Well, yeah, it had a story, it just wasn't fleshed out. To me it had little more than a basic plot. But I never said anything happened in FF1 for no reason. However, grand as the story may have been, it was presented in a very simple and concise manner, even in the Origins remake. Therefore, there need not be a complicated reason to explain the Soul of Chaos dungeon and why it needs to be completed. I'm sure they'll include a short paragraph of dialogue to "explain" the Soul of Chaos, and that's all the Light Warriors will need to go through it.
PS: I did say the Light Warriors had no personal reason for their quest. They don't. No reason is presented beyond the simple statement that"They are the Chosen Ones." The motivation and personal drives of the characters themselves are left up to the player. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

Um, the light warriors were CREATED by time to fix time. Their very existance is based on that quest... That's pretty personal. But a game so old can't be expected to take you through their childhood. ^^ However this NEW dungeon will need reason. It's bad enough the copy of II on it pairs characters that 'died'.

They were created by time to fix the problem? Where'd you get that from? The ending? God, I hated that ending.
Well, I'll take your word for it. It makes some sense considering they just spontaneously appear together with the crystals/orbs. Either way, I'm sure they'll think of something. It is called the "Soul of Chaos." The name alone would probably spur the Light Warriors to at least investigate. And I'm looking forward to playing the FFII extra dungeon. Its supposed to add more story, and a game that old could certainly benefit from some added depth. I did like FFII, I just never got aorund to beating it cuz of the broken "level up" system. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

You can read my post about the light warriors about half way down here:
http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/in...?showtopic=4641 Uh...how can the extra dungeon add more story in FFII? They use 'dead' characters, AKA ones that died for good in the story before they could meet...oh that crazy Square... -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |
