So...you want to know our favorite CT characters? eh.gif

Well, I like Magus the best. Lucca's pretty awesome too.

Posted by: Kane 25th March 2006 07:06
I liked Magus b/c he's got the dark magic.....

Oh, and Chrono is awesome, what with all the deep characterization we the players get to experience.....

Posted by: BGrugby 25th March 2006 07:22
Basically I loved Frog cause he was the man...err frog I guess. That is why I always have kill Magus as I hate it when you have alot of people to choose from at least I get the option of killing him off and he is not that great to begin with.

Also gotta love Crono as the storyline for him is great and I remember playing through the first time in the game a long time ago (back in the SNES days) and thinking, "they killed the main character...no way". His "death" in the PS1 version is awesome and he is the best silent protagentist around.

I personally liked Magus, not only for the evil aura he creates, but because when you get him, his magic ability is well beyond any character you have up to that point. For example, he starts out with all the second level elemental spells.

Frog, he rocked in battle and character, i still cant his theme outta me head.

Posted by: CT5Holy 25th March 2006 21:38
Hmm Well, What can I say? I liked Alot of the characters from CT...

Frog's History made him a cool character, Lucca' reminds me of my brother somewhat, being the smarty pants inventer she is and all.

I dont think anyone has even mentioned Robo????

I like his Shadow Techs, they look pretty cool, And he also has some pretty decent healing ablilites....

I dont know if this thread is restricted to playable characters or not, but Id have to say my favorite character in the game is Belthasar (In Nu Form!!!!) I found Him rather ammusing wink.gif

*Scratches Belthasar's Nu Scratch Point* biggrin.gif

I enjoyed Frog the most. His history was pretty awsome, and he's a pretty good fighter too. Plus, he's a frekking frog. What's not to love? biggrin.gif

Scratch that. I just remembered the Breath of Fire 2 frog. Couldn't stand him.

Posted by: bad andy 27th March 2006 09:14
I love them all. I really can't just pick one. I usually put my name on Frog or Crono though because I like the idea of fighting robots with swords.

Posted by: laszlow 27th March 2006 09:31
I've always been of the opinion that the best party in the game is Crono, Frog, and Ayla, but my favorite character was always Robo. Crisis Arm + healing magic + Uzzi Punch + cool theme music = frickin' awesome.

1. Frog: extraordinary characterization, excellent personality, and absolutely amazing theme song.

2. Lucca: nerd girl heart.gif.

3. Magus: If only here weren't that evil, he'd be even cooler than he already is (which is pretty darn cool). Nasty magic, great characterization, and an impressive hairstyle.

Frog: This guy is 3 ft tall and he can lay the smack down

Magus: Shadow Magic, is only your enemy,

because you were getting in the way of his revenge
. Also he carries a scythe

Ayla: powerful, and she is always straight to the point

Posted by: Gigantuar 3rd April 2009 14:22
Frog and Robo are my two favourites heart.gif I always have them in my party.

Also, I dislike Crono and Marle.

Posted by: baralai888 3rd April 2009 16:27
I gotta go with Ayla. I heavily lean toward physical attacks in this game and Ayla fits my approach perfectly. I especially like the techs she has with everyone else. I usually end with her and Chrono in my party with the 3rd spot up for grabs depending on who I like at the time.

Posted by: Caesar 3rd April 2009 17:09
Robo is my favorite, by far. I've always liked the slow and powerful characters, and as far as those go, Robo is among the best. He hits amazingly hard, especially when he is armed with the Berserker early on. Late game, my Robo could do 6 times more damage than Crono per turn (Uzzi punch vs. Crono's Rainbow Sword critical hit).

Posted by: Perigryn 4th April 2009 04:27
Hmmm... My favourite character... I think I'd have to go with... man... I do really like Frog. He's classy, charming, has a great story arc and looks wicked awesome with a big ol' sword in hand. His theme is also one of my fave pieces of game orchestration to date.

However, Crono also has interesting development for a mute and is a badass combatant.

I found Ayla amusing and her vague amount of humanity with the Reptites, plus I do love her 70s cop show theme.

hmmmmm
id go with chrono and marle
they have really cool music and best at healin in dire situations

Posted by: Suikojin 5th April 2009 18:25
My two favorites were always Frog (Glenn) and Crono. I really got into Frog's history and the first time though I just had to kill Magus because Frog deserved his revenge on him!

Funny, I've always been of the opinion that this equation should be included in every math textbook. Right on top of the section about trigonometry...

I've always liked Robo best, with Magus in a close second. The future was the coolest part of the game, partly because apocolyptic scenarios like that have always appealed to me. My final party consisted of Magus, Crono and Robo (Magus replacing Frog).

Haha, wicked.

It's true, though, Robo does make an awesome kinda' guy. His story's pretty interesting too, though, with his whole search for humanity sorta' thing. Though, it IS a little done. I mean, really, how many Datas and Bicentennial Men do we have to see in popular media? But still, Robo does have some differing edges over them.

That equation thing, though, gives me a fun idea...

Heh, I said this three years ago.

I disagree with my younger, foolhardy self. My favorite character to use is still Robo, but I've decided that I like Crono-Ayla-Robo better overall as a party. My reasoning back then was that Slurp Kiss was a super-cheap and effective healing method, that I really liked Spire, and I really disliked Twister compared to 3D Attack.

HOWEVER, I learned hat Twister's damage was mediocre because those three characters have the lowest or near-lowest total Magic in the game - if you pump those three full of Magic Tabs, then you have one of the far-and-away most powerful attacks in the game.

Bottom line - take my old post, and replace the word 'Frog' with 'Robo' and the word 'but' with 'and.'

My favorite character is Magus. He goes on his own quest for answers, revenge, and makes his own unique attempt to set things right. His motivations make sense, and he's a pretty good antihero. The game did a good job of building him up as a big bad in the beginning, only to make you realize later that there's more to him than meets the eye.

Plus, many of my favorite scenes in the game involve him. That initial battle and the one-on-one showdown with Frog are awesomely intense. I also really like the role he plays in giving you, the player, a very real choice to make and the game plays differently thereafter depending on the action you chose. The choice itself is also an interesting one to make story-wise, and not just a typical "Be evil or don't be evil" choice. Killing Magus feels satisfying, and Frog would walk away guilt-free, and you feel good knowing Frog will be free of his curse. Sparing Magus also feels good, and for me it has always been a huge bonus to have him on your side as a result.

Chrono is my fav. Hes the strongest.

Magus is my least favorite because you couldn't tech him with anyone.

Magus is my least favorite because you couldn't tech him with anyone.

I always thought of that as a neat example of the game mechanics being driven by the characters and their background. The rest of the characters have techs with each other, etc. because they have common goals and see the value in working together to become something stronger than themselves.

Magus was a lone wolf for most of the plot. He has proven time and again he doesn't relate to the rest of your party's goals, and doesn't really care about Ozzy, Flea, Slash etc. and it is only after all of his plans have failed that he reconsiders his approach. I see his lack of techs implying that he is keeping the rest of the party at arm's length while lending his help. (Emphasis on "lending"!)

Of course, maybe I'm overthinking it and the game simply didn't want to penalize you too harshly based on your decision with Magus, as he is certainly not overpowered in battle.

That's another reason why I didnt like him too much. He just had no synergy with other characters and he couldnt heal. He DPS was meh. There were simply just better alternatives to him.

Lets make some brief criteria for the characters.

-You have no choice.

They exist to further the game. Later on you can dismiss them and/or not play with them entirely. It's your personal preference unless you're stuck with them.

-You have a choice.

You can bench and/or leave the characters at home. They aren't important to the plot and the game can be advanced without them.

-A mixed bag.

They're needed sometimes to further the game in some way.

-----

I choose mixed bag most of the time. I definitely play games where I have no choice but to beat them with the main character(Final Fantasy Tactics).

1. Is it just me or is this thread missing a poll?

2. ^ this post right above mine, I'm not sure what it's trying to say in relation to this topic?

Then lets ask some important questions. What makes your favorite take precedence over someone else's?

Anyone who replies to this thread can say the same thing as you or something different. And if anyone changes their mind over time what's the point in asking?

Nothing makes my favorite take precedence over someone else's.

The point in asking is to invite other people to share their thoughts and opinions.

It's critical imo. If someone comes along and says they have no favorites then what is the point of this thread?

This might sound harsh but it feels like people want a favorite to believe one character is more important than another. And in fiction I do not believe that is the case.

If life as in fiction everything has a role whether it's your favorite or not.

I'm expressing my thoughts as well.
