Caves of Narshe Forums > Chrono Trigger > Favorite Female Character

Posted by: Ultimaniac 25th June 2009 21:02
I thought the female characters deserved their own poll. happy.gif I hope that's all right.

So, which one is your favorite?

I definitely like Ayla best. Not only is she (in my opinion) the best-looking character, she's also super strong, fast, and tough, but also friendly.

As for the non-playable female characters, I liked Schala best.

How about you?

Posted by: Gigantuar 25th June 2009 21:10
Combat-wise, Ayla wins. Personality-wise I think I prefer Lucca. But I definetly can't stand Marle.

Posted by: Blades of Steel 25th June 2009 21:11
Marle sucks. Lucca's ok I guess, but Ayla is my pick. She's pretty strong and I love strong women. I'm sick of seeing them as no more than magicians.

Exactly. It's so great to see a tough female character. Not a damsel-in-distress.

You don't rescue Ayla. Ayla rescues YOU.

You should play parasite eve my man.

Aya brea is a tough heroine character who can deal with anything and she works alone.

I hope you like games that are not turn based and that you can move around in and are futuristic.

I like Marle. Because she's cute. And I have a thing for cute.

She's just cute - I don't like to use her in battle (although she's very useful. But I prefer using Magus, Crono and Ayla. Healing's for weaklings), but just the way she acts makes me smile.

And I didn't vote, I wanted to see the choices other people made. Now I'm regretting that. Why do you dislike Marle, world? Why?

Posted by: sweetdude 5th September 2009 15:56
Ayla's great. She's feral, but somehow not in an annoying way like most feral characters are.

In battle she's direct and helpful, rather than someone you have to protect and dies a lot anyway. That's rare in female characters!

Posted by: laszlow 5th September 2009 16:04
Ayla, beyond a shadow of a doubt. Huge physical damage, at least one solid Dual Tech with every character other than Magus, and tied for fastest character in the game. I'd like Lucca and Marle a lot more (and I like them decently already) if they weren't so slooooow.

Posted by: Kane 5th September 2009 17:47
While I do like Ayla, I prefer Marle. Unlike most people I strongly dislike Lucca; I can't even really understand why. I just don't like her.

I'm sure in part my choice of Marle comes from a preference for Ice-elemental attacks.

Posted by: ElPanachino 5th September 2009 17:55
I voted for Marle. I like all three of them. Lucca is smart, which appeals to my intellect. Ayla is sexy and strong, but I don't think she'd make the greatest conversation. She kind of makes me think of a female version of Gau (FF6). I have to agree with Kuja, she is cute and I have a thing for sweet and innocent.

Posted by: Narratorway 5th September 2009 18:02
Lucca was always the fave. She felt the most honest as a character.

Posted by: baralai888 29th September 2009 06:28
Gotta go with Ayla. First off, she's my strongest character with physical damage more often than not, and second, she's quite the hottie. What more can I ask for? A beautiful woman who can also kick my ass, not bad at all.

Posted by: BlitzSage 29th September 2009 08:35
Think about it, Lucca is the reason the story exists. If she wasn't smart enough to create the portal, fix robo and the masamune, nothing would've happened.

Posted by: Allen Hunter 5th December 2009 21:56
Ayla has the best strength in the game, she's better-looking than Marle or Lucca, and she definitely has a rockin' personality.

I will make an Ayla-worship website soon and I expect all you Ayla fanatics such as myself to join, ok?

Posted by: MogMaster 6th December 2009 01:33
I like NP's Lucca response. She did feel the most honest, if that can be used to describe the feeling.

Also, using her is the best way to get a full blown black/fire mage, which really fills out the party well when using Chrono and Frog. Certainly leaves no worries for Magus anyway. Neveryoumind shadow barrier biggrin.gif

Posted by: ?????_UknownTrainGhost 10th January 2010 05:59
Lucca for the win! A woman who's intelligent and can blow the crap out of stuff, is good in my books.

Posted by: dont chocobos rule? 10th January 2010 18:16
i like marle the best. my party is usually crono, frog, and marle so i can get some great damage done, but still have a couple healers if i need it.

Posted by: seraphimdreamer777 25th January 2010 04:23
Lucca cause she is smart. Her attacks are cool too. Plus even though she is a nerd she is a cute nerd too.

Posted by: Magitek_slayer 25th January 2010 19:17
Damm,i guess that makes me a fan of lucca.

I like the fact that she is smart and goes making robots.

Wasn't she the one who helped activate robo and disable the factory?

Posted by: MagitekElite 26th January 2010 01:19
Ayla was the best female character.

I thought she was so awesome and strong. She was strong, cool and caring. cool.gif

Damn do I love this game! thumbup.gif

Posted by: Shotgunnova 29th January 2010 14:02
Definiately Ayla -- she just fit into the party so well (Frog/Crono/her), plus she was a beast. Marle would probably runner-up; never really used Lucca that much.

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 19th March 2010 09:43
Wow, I thought Lucca would get the most love from this topic.

Well, one look at my current avatar (which is Lucca, in case I change it later) should answer this question for you. Nerdy cuteness and brains. And hotness (literally, haha).

Speaking of which, I retcon what happens to her in CC. http://psiradish.deviantart.com/art/Chrono-Rebuttal-Lucca-vs-Lynx-67704540

Re: you don't save Ayla, Ayla saves you

Well, Lucca saves you too.

Posted by: trismegistus 19th March 2010 23:42
Ayla, for sure. Nothing better than a tough woman...

Queen Zeal is a pretty interesting character, but mostly in her dynamic to Lavos, so I feel I can't choose her. What about Azala, was Azala a woman?

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 20th March 2010 00:16
I believe canon has it that Azala is indeed female.

For some reason I always assumed Azala was female anyway. And I find her to be an pretty interesting character. I sometimes wonder, what if the humans and reptites actually did get along...? I felt sorry for her after fighting her, to be honest.

Posted by: Magitek_slayer 24th April 2010 17:47
I like lucca and ayla actually.

Though marle is still a pretty good character.

I like the fact that lucca is smart.

I like smart characters who are inventive.

I like Ayla because she is cute...not cute as Marle. Marle still looks like a child sad.gif .But Ayla is more my type wub.gif .
And, technically, she is one of the strongest characters in game, she have some good techniques (I am talking of Charm biggrin.gif ) AND she is the only one capable of doing THE 9999 DAMAGE STRIKE!

Posted by: Metal King Slime 23rd December 2010 10:53
Lucca. She's my type. :3

Also, Flea. If that counts, I mean...

Posted by: No-Name 23rd December 2010 13:15
Lucca for sure! She builds robots and carries a gun. I'm also a sucker for girls with glasses wub.gif

Posted by: SilverCrono 24th December 2010 02:12
Ayla for the win. Marle rubs me the wrong way, and Lucca never appealed to me. As soon as I could, I always switched them out. So, yeah, Ayla.

@Metal King Slime: Flea is a guy. Ya, rly. Check it out.

"Rubs you the wrong way?" How so? I admit, I'm not that fond of her either.

And I take back what I said about Flea then. tongue.gif

Just her personality and she's so rude sometimes, and... I don't know. I just have this urging to hate her. Looks like I need to go back to therapy for my inner crazed fanboy >.>

Maybe it's the clothes. I never did like sandals.

Posted by: Metal King Slime 25th December 2010 14:15
I can see what you're getting at. Her personality is pretty clich.

Posted by: ZidaneTribal 28th December 2010 08:17

Voted for Ayla because she's strong, tough, kind and caring. And a good leader.

Posted by: Iscariot 22nd February 2011 04:46
Yeah... Flea being a guy was definetely on the creepy side when I played through it. Playable character, I prefered using Lucca because she was the only one with fire magic for the tri-techs, and both of Magus' tri-techs required Lucca.

Schala is hands down my favorite girl from CT. She is kind in a way unseen by anyone else in the Zeal Kingdom, and she unconditionally helps Crono and the others. Since this topic was favortie female character, not just PC, Schala should have been in the voting options.

Posted by: Sherick 22nd February 2011 05:12
Ayla, especially from a gameplay perspective blah blah blah, plus I always try to have her in party during plot points because her responses are so cute.. I do like Marle though, and don't care for Lucca, but that's all because I'm very superficial.

Well Gau's one of my favorite characters, so that might have something to do with it. Also, she definately is the best-looking character.

Posted by: vividesu 27th June 2011 00:17
Marle's horribly annoying, and Lucca's awesome, but I do not care about Ayla AT ALL, personally.
Lucca, for sure, for sure.

Posted by: TheRandomGambler 27th June 2011 02:15
Marle is a well developed character, causing the player to feel empathetic(i.e. when she cries, you feel sad etc.), but only being useful as a healer means she won't get to see a lot of time on the battlefield. dry.gif

Lucca has great weapons that deal ranged/projectile damage, and gets some of the best equips in the game, but with weak physical stats and most(not all) of her techniques fall short of being versatile enough for her to be more than just "the one character who uses fire2". rolleyes-straight.gif

Ayla cannot wield any weapons, can only equip weaker armor(accessories not withstanding) and cannot use magic. However, her techniques are EXTREMELY powerful(Dino Tail, anyone?) and with very high Physical attack and defense respectively, she can take it as well as dish it out, meaning she has greater liberty at using varying strategies for dealing with a wide assortment of enemies/bosses. happy.gif

Vantage point: Ayla. biggrin.gif

Posted by: finalalias 27th June 2011 14:00
I chose Ayla for pretty much the same reason as everyone else.

I've also wondered whether this character was inspired by Jean Auel's Ayla character in her novels. Anyone know?

Posted by: Chell172 1st August 2011 19:51
I voted Marle just for fun. biggrin.gif

But I always thought Flea was female for a while. Now I'm even more scared.

Ayla has a few humorous moments, but I prefer Lucca. Funny herself, smart, cocky, and hits things with a hammer up close.

When I first started playing the game though, I didn't realize her sprite was her with glasses. I thought it was one eye and she was a cyclops... it was like I had an epiphany when I figured out what it was years later.

I'm going to raise my hand in the name of Schala as well. The tragedy of her story gets me every time I play the game. Janus' dependence on her and Magus' later devotion to finding and protecting her brought a lot of heart into a very depressing point in the game. Her unconditional love of all people, especially the earthbound is very inspiring as is her loyalty to her mother despite the pain.

Although, everyone of us would have loved to see this:

Fiona. She likes plants, which is way cool. Give her yer robot, Crono! He'll be ok in 400 years, Lucca can fix him!

Ayla becuase at full power with auto haste she is an absolute death machine

Posted by: Thurhame 30th June 2014 16:03
This is a hard choice.
Lucca is cute, fun, smart, has good story, and is the party's best offensive mage.
Marle is cute, fun, empathic, has good story, and is the party's best defensive mage.
I chose Marle because she's my favorite party member and I like her scenes with Crono.

I definitely agree with the people saying Sala should have been on the poll. She might have been my first choice.

I'm don't like Ayla. Sure she's cute, but I'm not a fan of the cave woman amazon type, I really hate those super-revealing outfits (though it's not as bad as some, and Ayla manages to look cute in spite of it), her way of talking is fun at first but gets old really fast, and while she's a great bruiser she's pretty useless with magic. I cringe every time I have to put her in to charm something.

I'd like Lucca and Marle a lot more (and I like them decently already) if they weren't so slooooow.

True that. Fortunately, there's a remedy: SPEED CAPSULES!!! I had Marle as my fastest character by midgame. Unfortunately, there aren't enough for both until late, so I mostly left Lucca out, even though they make a great combo otherwise.

I PROTEST! In addition to being the game's best healer (which alone would be enough for me to include her), she has some great dual and triple techs. And then there's Haste, easily the most AWESOME spell in the game.

Sure, she's doesn't have much versatility. But so what? She's a cute, smart, BADASS fire mage. If speed wasn't an issue, I'd use the Marle-Lucca duo for the whole game.

Posted by: XolarDark 1st January 2015 15:41
Definitely Ayla is the most attractive of the three, powerful, strong and fast, very attractive in general to be the favorite of the players. While it is true that Marle is cute, with that childish personality, overall I played several playtrough with to the two blondes along with Chrono, more than anything to have in the party the both types of heroines, the warrior and the weak cute white mage. But overall I remember taking Lucca more times than any other because of her incredible magic power for massive damage, or make a All Star party with Chrono and Marle, after all Chrono Trigger is the story of these three characters.

If we are on the subject of the most innocent and tender, definitely one falls for Schala. It's perfect, noble, beautiful, suffered. No doubt inspired the desire to protect it and its outcome is really sad throughout the game unable to save her from her fate. Even more after the Dream Devourer in the DS version.

I liked Marle because of her relationship to chrono being pretty much his girlfriend without saying it. It touched the romantic in me. Asuka's picture says it all. I always use her with Lucca because antipod 3 just wrecks everything. They way turns work on this game make the speed stat almost worthless in most fights. Currently grinding out to fight Spekkio in his final form though.
We'll see after that.

I'd pick Schala though if she where an option. She was such a majestic character with a beautiful theme song. Too bad CC made her ending so tragic.

Gameplaywise I prefer Ayla, I generally like the "thief" kind of character in RPGs tongue.gif
As a character, I prefer Lucca, just because her story's not as generic as Marle's.
Marle's just the typical "damisel in distress" who needs her blue prince... I'm getting really sick of that kind of setup... Really pinch.gif
And on a side note, I guess Schala would be the female character with the best story IMO.

Fiona's back story was also captivating, what with the green thumb going back to the Age of Zeal.

As for main 3, Lucca could be pretty entertaining.

My impression from the posts tell me the game is easy enough no matter what character you pick. You prefer one over the other based off personal bias instead of what would win you the game.

In that case I choose Marle. She's on every critical battle. That haste and extra healing come in handy. I know CT is more than analyzed at this point but I'd still want a healer in case there's something we overlooked.

This applies to other games too.
