Huhu,
as already posted I am going to help to rebuild the FF V section, if YOU want to contribute, feel free to do so. Just ask, and I might set up a FTP account for you. (Eh..FTP isn't really complicated, believe me... wub.gif )

The first workstep will be collecting (missing) data.

Any volunteers here?

You can view the made work here:

http://www.freelancer-reborn.de/user/bas/ff

(I've decided to make this public so that the same info won't get written down over and over by the a other guy...)

What data are missing? The only complaint I heard is linking enemies to locations.

I think there was some trouble with blue magic or something. I haven't played the game so I'm not entirely sure, but I re-call there was a thread awhile back talking about the blue magic section not be reliable.

Eh...the thread is from me. tongue.gif

Well...there are the monster locations, magic fixes, !Mix addition to the spell list, job fixes (dancer, mime, thief), MAYBE tactics, walkthrough changes and enhancements...
Just take a look at my already wrote up TXT-file.

Eh...I might should split it up into different files with different contents (monsters, jobs, magic, walkthrough...).

Well, first of all, I guess I can help on this. I have some notes from a since-abandoned FF V walkthrough I was working on that got derailed by school issues, and the beginnings of a job strategy / character FAQ. I'll submit to the FTP or email my work to Josh once I've cleaned it up a bit.

And second of all, I hate to be a negative nancy, but your English could use some work, Bas. I strongly advise that you get proofreading help before submitting anything official to Josh or any other CoN staff. But in general I like what I'm seeing. It's good to have CoN community members take an interest in the content of the main site.

I can assure you that the blue magic is correct because I dumped the data myself directly from the ROM. Same with enemy data. Djibriel and I both played through the game in one day to gather the shop data or other magic data. I highly doubt there is anything wrong with any of our data. The only thing I recall not being available is the tie between enemies and locations.

Make a list of things you think we are missing and post them here. We'll take care of the rest. happy.gif

That's what he meant I believe. (I probably could've phrased myself a bit better.) It's not much good to have a blue magic guide without knowing where to get it eh? (Unless you want to do it yourself and NO ONE has that initiative anymore.)

Ok. I can try to take a look at it tonight or tomorrow. I remember most of the locations off my head, so I can likely just write them down and give them to R51.

Eh - I know my english isn't perfect, since it isn't my mother tongue :/ - But however, many things in the TXT are just notes atm.

@BM: As you can see in my TXT, I found out a bit more about Bloodsuck (or however it is called...?)

Quote
----
Magic
----
Blue
----
Bloodsuck

Drains HP, the more HP the magic user has, the less the damage is

AFAIK drain absorbes HP undepently frmo the caster's HP, so this is a difference between those abilites.

Bas, I'd like to contribute but you gotta tell us what specific things you want. I can focus on Blue Magic and where to get them and Rare Steals/Drops from enemies.

For the walkthrough... I just can say that when you escape Karnak Castle in 10 minutes, getting all 15 treasures is possible and not so difficult to do.

Here's an strategy, the one I use:

1.- Have some as a Red Mage and his secondary ability should be Learning. Or likewise, have someone be a Blue Mage and have !Red Lv. 3 as a secondary ability.

That character is in there for two things: constantly cast Ice2/Fire2/Bolt2 at the enemies and kill them fast and to learn "Death Claw" enemy skill from the Death Claw Boss when you get out of the castle.

2.- Make someone a Berserker with the Double Grip as a secondary ability. You must have purchased the most powerful axe available (in Karnak stores) and equip it to this character. This guy is, obviously, for damaging enemies strongly enough.

3.- Have a Monk. They are very useful because they hit hard and doesn't waste any MP. Use !White Lv. 3 as a secondary ability. You are gonna need healing.

Also, their !Kick command helps against those enemies that appear in numbers.

4.- This one can be whatever you like, just make sure that this character also has strong attacks. A Thief with !Black Lv. 3 ability could be fine because the Thief almost always take the first turn.

As for the stealings in that section, I really do not mind them. The Mage Mash and Bard's Clothes are not that far in the game.

I would give priority to getting the 15 treasures and learning the "Death Claw" Blue Magic. Sure, you can learn "Aero 2" from Gigas, but if you miss it, it wouldn't be a big deal, because the enemy Page 32 in the Library (the next quest) also uses that magic. And the "Death claw" blue magic can't be learned until much later in the game.

Finding the 15 treasures shouldn't be a big trouble. There are two in the basement, one is 2000 Gil and the other is an Elixir. Only the treasures that have money are unguarded, the rest of them are guarded.

Either way, going upstairs from the basement there are 2 more treasures. One is a must get: a Ribbon, and the other is a Shuriken.

After that, the next 2 floors upstairs do not have any treasures. On the main room, well, that's where you gotta go to the left side and the right side of the room to get the rest of the treasures.

Before leaving the castle, though, just change your Berserker to any other job of your preference, I'd say another Blue Mage with the !White Lv. 3 command...

Engage in combat...

defeat the soldiers and their leader will reveal himself as Death Claw... just wait until he uses death claw on one of the blue mages and defeat him... normal tactics will do...

Remember, you gotta defeat the soldiers first and the sergeant will reveal himself as Death Claw... if you defeat the Sergeant first, then Death Claw won't appear...

Well - About stealing, Gigas (or however he is named pinch.gif) has elixirs as a common steal, so it won't take much time - You can easily get 7 bonus elixirs or so by this way.
You should always try to heal in the menu (IMHO) as this saves you some additional time, and ofc, it is recommended to setup your job and abilities before you beat the boss in the steam ship, otherwise you may waste 30-45 seconds or so in the castle.
I was short in time, but I always got every treasure, plus the bonus elixirs stolen from gigas, and maybe even some mageslashers.
It was sometimes hard to beat Deathclaw in time, so if you get everything you might risk not to be able to beat him fast enough - Strangefully, the last try I had I killed the seargent before he was able to transform into deathclaw, LOL
(Berserker + Bothhand)

Perhaps it may be worth it, but you can get Elixirs as a rare drop from the Mold Wind enemy as well. (Wind Shrine Temple)

The Lil' Song (or Tiny Song) can be gotten from Cherie (at Phoenix Tower) or Farfarero (at the Forests in the X-Maze, or whatever is called...)

Actually, he will only turn into Death Claw once you kill the pawn soldiers first.

This is a common type of battle within Final Fantasy IV, because the leading knight never does anything unless they're the ones left alone. Once alone, they either escape or be a man to fight about it.

Your point was that he will only transform when he is alone. Bas is saying that he killed him while he was alone before his "transform" counter was activated. I don't know the number offhand anymore, but once his HP reaches a certain point AND he is alone, then he will transform. If you do a massive amount of damage before he reaches that HP limit, as Berserkers are fully capable of, then he just dies on his own. happy.gif

I mostly play the SNES Version and he transforms into Death Claw once the other guys are dead. It doesn't matter if he has taken damage or not.

ATM I don't play that much at my PC after I connected my widescreen to it. It is just more comfortable and I am working on more thingies now.
I haven't touched FF V for two weeks, and I am not sure when I will do the next time, it is not that I would say I won't touch it in the next three months, but who knows.
So I want to give out some things you might want to change:

Magic
----
Blue
----
Bloodsuck

Drains HP, the more HP the magic user has, the less the damage is

----
Mix (SNES RPGe's fantrans, need to be converted for SNES names) NOT COMPLETE !!
----
Maiden's Kiss + Turtle Shell

Maiden's Drain

Drains a huge amount of HP from a targetand gives it to the caster.

Hiportion + Ether

Half Elixier

Heals MP (50% or 100%?)

Antidote + Potion

Neutralize

Dispells bad status conditions + heals a small amount of HP.

Hi-Portion + Portion

Water of Life

Casts "Regen" on the target.

Elixir + Darkmatter

Dark Elixier

Reduces target's HP to below 10.

Ether Dry

Hi-Portion + Turtleshell

Heals 160 MP.

Portion + Turtleshell

Ether

Heals 80 MP.

Dragon Power

Portion + Dragonfang

Increases power/stats.

Cure Blind

Portion + Eyedrop

Heals blind and some few HP.

Hi-Portion

Hi-Portion + Holywater

Heals 900 HP.

Resurrection

Portion + Fenix down

Revives a character with full HP.

Dragons Armor

Dragon Fang + Phenix Down

Casts reflect, protes (+ shell?) on the target

Resist Thunder

Phenix Down + Eyedrop

Thunder absorbation (?)

Antidote + Holywater

Denson Power

???

----
Jobs
----
Thief
----
Make enemy's backstabbs impossible

----
Mime
----
Abilities
Mime 999 Imitates the command used by the previous character.

----
Walkthrough
----

Escape from Karnak castle
----

steal elixirs from Gigas
MageSlasher/Earth robe from Sorcerer
Blue Magic Doomclaw from Iron Claw

Getting the Walz Adamantium - Boss Byurobolos
----
Ok, those guys are tough. If you don't kill them all at once, they will revive themself over and over.
You best bet would be summons (Shiva/Titan?) and other skills which hit all enemies at once,
alternativly, you can silence every Byurobolus enemy, then they won't be able to revive themselves,
plus, they are unable to cast explorer, which can deal very high damage.

Floating Ruins
----
Learn Missile & Emission from the cannons

(Missing enemies)
Hyudra
(Fourth & Fifth floor)

^Muddle/Charm Song/Control

Hydra
(Fifth floor)
You can steal a Crossbow (Bow with instant kill chance) from Hydra.
-> Missile (BM)
(Learn lv. 4 Gravity 2)

Lamia
-> Learn Blowfish (via Control)

Frogsong

Whirldeamon
-> Learn Whitewind

http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/w_enemy.p...nemy=Ultragigas

Doesn't need to be muddled in order to learn Guard Off.

----
Tactics
----
Shiva
Blue mage -> blood suck (for self-healing)
(2nd row)
Black mage -> (start) Sleeping at all enemies,
if one of the soldiers didn't get sleeped at the first try cast it at him only again
till he is asleep.
-> (battle) Portions/Fire at Shiva ONLY
Monk with w. magic/w. mage -> Healing with Cure, mostly at the whole party

Monk w. Build-Up -> Build-Up at SHIVA and maybe using of portions for critical moments

IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE 2 CHARACTERS IN THE FRONT ROW AND 2 IN THE BACK ROW !!
Shiva will then only cast ice at two characters, she will change their target lines
(Row 1->Row 2-> Row 1->Row 2...)
(If you put one character only in one row it is VERY unlikly he will survive one or two turns)

Don't attack the soldiers, otherwise they would wake up. Focus at shiva.
After shiva is gone, kill the soldiers one by one or with magic only.

It took me a 2nd try, but I was able to got it.
Does anyone have experience about if muting shiva is possible? (I didn't try)

-----
Ifrit
----
Simple launch Ice 2/Ice 2 sword and heal to take him out.
If you want to end this battle very quickly, 4 blackmages _should_ take him out in max. 4 turns.

Hope this helps even though.
