On the back of ffix's case, it says "The Crystal Comes Back". I dont recall anything related to crystals in ff9 except for the Crystal World. And i dont remember ever seeing a crystal world in a final fantasy game before. Does anyone know why it says this?

because in this one the crystal is the thing that holds the universe togeather. it is behind kuja. this one has more to do with the other ones than any other ff in the series. haha.

Also, don't Dagger and Eiko learn summons from various crystals?

The crystal is around Dagger's neck. It's her pendant. It's important in the plot at some points, like:

when it proves to her uncle's guards, or whoever they are, that she is of the royal family.

Also, there is that scene later where it starts to glow, and floats...^-^

during the ending FMV and he was in the crowd.

Dr. Tot read aloud an account of a jewel being divided in four amongst the four kingdoms. These fragments never once had the name of crystal, so it's a very weak integration.

What everyone else said, but I don't blame you for not remembering it. That tagline was nothing more than an attempt to play on FFIV's popularity; FFIX's plot doesn't exactly scream "crystals" to me.

Besides dagger's crystal hanging from her neck and the crystals she equips to learn skills, I cant seem to find any other references to crystals, except little tidbits of mention like "crystalthis" and "crystalthat".

And i just recently went through the game too!

The Crystal was just the thing that everything originates from, like what bebi vegeta said. The plot didn't really contain it at all, but then very quickly built up to revealing it. I'd say "The Crystal comes back" was just a marketing ploy to get diehard FFgamers to check the game out.

'The Crystal Comes Back' can be interpreted as a plot that revolves around crystals, also. From the crystals that Eiko and Garnet have to the crystals (gemstones) that teach you summons, they're an integral part of the plot.

Whether or not the catchphrase is directed a certain crystal or just the concept of crystals remains to be decided.
