I just wanted to know if anyone actually got the Excalibur II in Final Fantasy IX because it seems impossible to me, unless oyu cheat somehow.

I've only ever cheated it up for amusement purposes, myself, but apparently the key trick to it is opening the PSX lid at key points to stop FMVs playing, or something.

That is damn hard to get. Never even tried myself.

I've always wanted to try and get it, but I always have too much fun doing the side quests.

I think you have to get to Hades within 12 hours to get it or something like that, so that leaves about 3 hours a disc.

3 hours a disc? That's like...impossible. I swear I'm in the 4th disc and I've already racked up 60 odd hours, if not more. Of course I'm a level building freak, so it's all good. But seriously, I don't think you can do that with all of the random battles, FMVs, and plot scenes. I'd say after adding up all those hours you'll barely have any time to play at all. -------------------- I find your lack of faith disturbing... |

Well, it's true. You have to be there in 12 hours, which is why I say you can't get it unless you cheat somehow.

In all the walkthroughs I've read, they suggest running from every random battle, or saving and resetting if you run into too many. Plus the whole lid thing to skip FMVs. I don't know how'd you have the experience to beat any bosses this way, but that's how I hear it's done. File under "Not Worth It" with Emerald and Ruby weopon.

i just thought of something, if you beat FF9 in half a day than you can get it.
i dont see how useful this weapon can be, so i dont think its really worth getting. -------------------- Why do kamakazi pilots wear helmets? |

Sure, you get a powerful weapon, but you lose many other bonuses. It's not really worth it, but if you can get it, at least you can rub it in other people's faces.

If I rubbed it in my friends' faces, I'd be labeled an even bigger loser than I already am

Would that mean you've been able to get it?

Odd...I read that it involves playing through the game once and starting over. Though I'm probably wrong. I often am...

I've heard two things.
1. Youg et it once you get to that certain point in the game. 2. You get it at the end of the game, and then use it when you start over again. I'm not sure which is right though. -------------------- "The Master of Past, Present, and Future has returned." |

Everything I have read and seen on the subject agrees with the former. There's no way the game can store information to know you can start with the Excalibur 2 next time, unless it reads all the save slots before you start a game to check, which it clearly doesn't.
You get it in Memoria in the same game that you managed to play through that quickly. Like others, I don't believe it's worth it to get this considering the number of other treasures you'd miss through doing it so quickly. |

I just remembered something else. It also isn't worth getting unless you're using Steiner as a main party member. It would suck to get it and not even use it.

Well I would hope so! You need to be shot if you're trying to get Excalibur II and don't even use Steiner. ...Scratch that. Drug out into the street and shot.
