Shouldn't most of these be in spoiler tags? I won't quote any spoilers but I'll just hope they go back and edit their posts. That's the worst thing that anyone can do for a gamer...ugh...  dry.gif

Actually Iggy, I am still in need of help 4 figuring out spoilers!

When you're typing your post, there are a few buttons just above where you type your text. Press SPOILER once, then type the spoiler then press it again to close the spoiler tag.

I fell in love with this game within minutes of playing it. I knew it was gonna be one my favorite FF's right off'n the bat and I was right. It's second only to VI. I attribute this to two factors, it's characters and it's atmosphere. To sum it up in a word, it's just an incredibly charming game. It's really something to be impressed with when ya think about it. Here's a game that on the surface just sounds tacky and painfully sweet. All the characters are stereotypes to the extreme and on the surface have barely two demensions. Yet the execution results in likable characters that you really feel for and an atmosphere of innocent nostalgia. It works despite itself.

I really liked FFIX the only problem was that they were too cartoony
it is kind of sad how such a simple misinterpretaion of what the buyer wants can bring down a game's level of fun to some people

*its too bad that i havent been able to finish the game, since my disk four freezes
right as you leave black mage village

Only one word can discribe the best part of this game: Vivi! I had only recently bought FFIX after getting tired of ppl telling me different things. It's good, it sucks, it's good... You get the picture. So i decided to try it out, but i had known so much bout Vivi before i started as soon as i saw him i was like "Vivi!!!" (Seriously, lol) I haven't gotten that far into the game however, my playstation 1 (Yes i know, no playstation 2 = i suck) is really old and needs to be clean so on one of the movie scenes it freezes. Anyways from what i can tell about what i've played so far, this game kicks ass! A definate play if u haven't already.

I found FF9 intriguing because Zidane nicely breaks the mold of stoic protagonists like Cecil, Cloud, and Squall (Tidus and Terra were more whiney than stoic, although the latter had far more realistic motivation to be whiney IMO). The general theme of the game seems to be the rather pedestrian "absolute power corrupts absolutely," but well-executed.

I do have a major gripe about this though:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Necro feels like he/she/it was chucked in just so you'd have one more thing to fight. His attachment to the rest of the story seems to be nothing more than some sparse hand-waving, and bad hand-waving at that.

I think your friends are graphic wh**es...which means they have no sense of good game play, they simply relly on graphics to make a good game...if graphics actually were so important then why in the world was FF Tactics so popular...talk about cartoonish graphics, but it was still a great game and also, why was Fire Emblem so popular...I mean it was made for the game boy advance so the graphis were obviously not much better if any better than the SNES...obviously your friends just have a short attention span since they can't seem to know a good story line. Are they the "if the graphics suck then I don't even want to play the story line cus it'll suck too" type ppl? I don't think you should worry about their opinion...in my opinion FF IX was better than VIII...not that that's saying much but I still didn't think it was all that bad,the only thing I hated about it was the fact that if you didn't learn a skill of of your weapon or armor you had to keep crappy armor or weapon until you did...if you didn't keep the armor till you maxed out the skill you lost the skill when you unequiped....other than that I liked it and the graphics were fine.

ffix is one of my favs, but my siblings ruined my cd and playstation, so i cant play it, theres 2 things that got my beef in the game though, u really had to make sure u got those sidequests at the right time, because alot of them were only available during a single event, i also hated that you had to get to excalibur2 within 12 hours. this made the game impossible to do everything

Whether you like or dislike the game is your opinion. But to say that a PSX-generation RPG is completely absent of a plot is absurd. Even FFI had a plot, no matter how simplistic. Heck, even the first Mario and Bad Dudes, with its insane one, had plots.

I wasn't a bad enough dude to save the president... sad.gif

FFIX is very very well done in my opinion. Many of the newer players to the series really dislike it, and I can understand that. I think IX was made for the people that had been with the series before VII. The settings, personalities, and plot are kind of a mesh of I-VI. Zidane was good protagonist I thought, and Panda is right, it was a nice refreshing break from the depressed main character. Vivi, as most of you probably know, is my favorite FF character of all time. Dagger/Garnet was also done very well, her journey to find herself actually made me care about her. Each character just oozed(that's right oozed) with personality.

The story was cool, not weighed down with depressing emotions, but was generally light-hearted through out. I honestly enjoyed it. They bit with Cid being an oglop was hilarious to me, and the reason why was even better.

The graphics were perfect for the feel of the game. Lifelike characters from VIII would not have fit with this story, and VII was a bit too anime for it as well. I don't relly care about graphics, but I think IX's complimented the game perfectly.

With the exception of IV, this is my favorite FF(big surprise, eh?). I recommend it to everyone who asks me about FF.

I'm talking about the feel of the game. VII and VIII had a technologically advanced civilization, the previous games in the series did not. IX appeared to bet set more in the timeframe of FFIV...well, maybe a a couple decades after it.

I like FFIX better than all these new-fangled FF games they're coming out with. I liked the old school feel with the new school graphics.
