I was in the 4th grade.

Original copy. There are quite a few out there that have ruthless FF knowledge, funny how I only figured part of that out =P

I got the game as a Christmas gift on the NES...I don't remember what year, though it was before the SNES came out. Played alongside my brother once we figured out that you could only have one save file, unlike Dragon Warrior. We took a fighter, black belt, white mage, and black mage, and never figured out how lethal an unarmed, unarmored master could be. He was swinging Iron Nunchuks until the Temple of Fiends revisited, when he finally got a Masamune.

This game taught me to appreciate my NES Max controller for its turbo button when buying healing potions. And it taught me to pound random encounters with my tanks and save my magical artillery for boss fights, a trend that I continue to this day.

Hrm...as mentioned above, there is no way to buy more than one of any item. You have to click the A button (on the old school controller, that is) three or four times per potion. That's just an annoyance, though, and not a strategy issue.

In the original, you can only save at an Inn, or by using a Tent, House, or Cabin on the world map. Also, you have no inventory for weapons and armor, just potions and rest items(tents, cabins, and houses) and plot items (Lute, Mystic Key, etc.). Each character can only carry four weapons and four pieces of armor, which includes equipped weapons and armor, so a lot of good armor gets dropped near endgame. And if a character wants to use a spell item (heal helmet, for instance) it has to be one of their four, no swapping around in battle.

I rented it a couple times when it first came out, probably the second week it was out as I think all copies were gone when I first looked for it. Back then, I got to rent a game nearly every weekend but very rarely did my family spend the money on a new game, so I didn't get my own copy until Christmas, IIRC.

I was ten when it came out, so I guess that would have put me in fifth grade.

Anyway I first started playing FF1 during the summer around August or so. It was Origins.
I really wanted to play and of course they are really rare in shops so my brother suggested Amazon and... there you go, the rest is history.

The first time i played the game was when i was 5, and my dad had been playing it for a while already (he had bought it to play)

Sadly though, i could not get into the FF fun until i was five. My dad thought the games were too mature...especially FF2American, which i thought was crazy talk, hehe

I believe I was a toddler when it first came out. The first time I saw it was at a Funco Land used games store in the early 90s, but I can't say that I've played and beat it. My first FF game was number 4 when I was 6 years old. It's cool knowing there are other people out there whose childhood memories involve Final Fantasy.

My first FFI enjoyment was when I was maybe 9, I got into it after playing and beating Dragon Warrior. I still have my original copy and still play it on my original NES. This was probably 12 years ago when I first played it... Wow huh?

I played FF1 for the first time when I was around 12. I remember getting home from middle school, secretly hooking up my NES to the TV in my parents' room (I wasn't allowed to play on school days) and playing until about 5. By the time my parents were home, I was doing homework like a good kid.

Up to that point, the only RPG I had played was Dragon Warrior. I remember thinking that there was no way Final Fantasy would be anywhere near as good...

Geeeeez! I played it when I was around 5 or 6. I loved Video games!.
My Grandma Squirrely got me into the Final Fantasy Series! She said I loved playing
mind games like puzzles and getting knots out of strings and stuff. So she told me to try a Brand New game that had just come out. I never beat it back then... but thats what started my WHOLE family in on the Final Fantasy Series! We hope they never stop making them!

Hm, none of my parents or I can remember the exact year, but it was sometime around 2004-2005. Easter, I know that much.

I was already into video games. Not much, I'll give you that, but still enough to drag my GBA around Europe. Anyway, I was in a games store in Cologne, Germany (believe it or not), and I found a little GBA gem known as "Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls". Now, IIRC, I had read a review of it in a games magazine of the time. Either that, or the whole "Kill Monsters with SWORDS!!!" thing did it for me.

So, I played both FFI and FFII in equal measure for the next week, meanwhile ignoring the beautiful German countryside. Eheh. On that first week, I never got past Marsh Cave... In fact, I never even got to Lich until last Summer.

Looking at the FFI part of the site, it was definitly the Easter of 2005. Late, huh?

back when all my friends had nintendos, play it(or I tried to play it atleast) since i was about 5-6 years old, I didnt beat the game(as a rom) untill i was 13

also, if you seven when most people didnt have working nintendos..... Id want to estimate that around 1996-97, when PSX took over........ Something tells me that you didnt beat FF1 on the NES when you were 7 years old..

Just shortly after if came out. Thank goodness I had an older brother who was really into video games. He bought it several months after it hit the shelves.
