I just started FF1 on Final Fantasy Origins with a party of fighter, monk, white mage, black mage.
I didn't give the monk any weapon, since I know his power increases rapidly after the first couple of levels. Now I'm wondering about armor, because he's getting killed too often. Can I expect him to perform better with or without armor? After googling around, I have found some FAQs say to give him armor, and other explicitly say no to armor. Some of the FAQs I found even contradict themselves, leaving me more confused. Has anyone crunched the numbers on this equation? Edit: Thinking about it, what about shield, helmet and gloves? What does everyone give their Monk / BB? This post has been edited by sparerib1968 on 28th April 2009 20:36 -------------------- FFO on PSX: Killed Chaos w/ 4 level 49 Black Wiz's |

For the first few levels, every bit of defense helps. The Monk is basically a Thief without a weapon or armor for the first ten or so levels.
Every few levels, take everything off and compare the scores to what he has with armor. At a certain point armor just slows him down. Sadly, the Monk will always take huge hits of damage. He gets lots of HP later on, but stick a Warrior in front of him. |

No, because it would only slow them down, but if any armor needed, at least some light armor.

Towards the beginning light armor (such as the wooden armor) and cap are a good idea but I usually switch off the weapons and armor right after elfland. (you'll need it during the elfland part unless he's really high level)

If i even HAVE a monk (im often fighter, black mage, red mage, and thief), i tend to power level him before elfland and keep on light armor...this way he doesnt slow down too much but can still have some form of extra defense.
Heavy armor may protect, but it isnt worth the sacrifice in the case of the monk -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA.
