I got to wondering about all the games I've played in my life, and kind of realized that I seem to be the type of gamer that lingers on games for a very long time, rather than playing lots of new games all the time. So I thought about the games I've played over and over again, and thought it would be fun to try to figure out what I played the most of.

I've always been a PC gamer at heart, and Blizzard has always made the games that have hooked me the most.

If I were honest with myself, the game I've played by far the most would be World of WarCraft. It's been the longest running active game I've played, through every expansion and seen almost all the content there is. I think I've logged somewhere in the thousands of hours on that game over its life. I play/played with people I've known online for about 15 years now (most of my real life friends and family don't game much with the exception of my father, who also plays WoW with me haha) and gone through every sort of drama and bit of awesome, and will always remember those times.

But WoW is a needy MMORPG time-consumer that by nature is requires more time. Aside from that game, Diablo 2 and StarCraft would be a close second. Those were a big part of my high school and college time, some of the best times!

What about all of you? What game or games do you think you've played far and away more than any other? They may not necessarily be your favorites now of course, but what captivated you the longest? If you want, you can post the # of hours played if the system logs it, or you can list by console or genre or whatever you like. Long car rides with Pokemon or Tetris? Endless hours of Street Fighter with your friends as a kid? Time or skill challenges that you've worked long and hard to beat? (All of those were me too!) I'd love to hear the stories!

Hard to say how much time I've spent on some games. Certainly I've spent lots of time on the Street Fighter franchise and various FF games. However, the game that comes to mind is Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (it keeps track of hours spent). I have 3 character files in MHFU with a combined total of over 1000 hours. If they'd brought a sequel to the Vita, I would have bought one already, but alas, Capcom has disappointed me yet again.

I think Starcraft 1 is definitely my ultimate time sink. That was The Game for me in my teens and formulated a lot of my love for strategy in general. After that, the Pokemon franchise (top file is, I believe, Pokemon Black with 200+ hours). Also, I have replayed Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy Tactics enough times that they have to be way up there in hours, at least 300 hours each, I'd estimate, just obviously not on single files.

There was also a MUD, Unofficial Squaresoft, that I used to play religiously. I think I had a thousand hours on one char, but a lot of that was idling/chatting and not leveling or anything like that. Every so often I get the urge to go back and start a new char but then I remember how much of a timesink it was during college, heh.

I definitely have hundreds of hours spread across Final Fantasy Tactics files on various platforms (since I have owned it on three platforms!). I also have over 300 hours combined between the two Left 4 Dead games.

I have something like eighty hours on Final Fantasy XIII in just one file. Some people out there will think that's like six hundred in another game, but those people are silly.

For ages, FFT was the only game I could claim to have spent thousands of hours in, but nowadays, TF2 rests firmly in that category too. Could probably fit some sandboxy stuff (Oblivion, etc.) in there too. It's probably for the best that I don't play MMORPGs... >_>

Posted by: laszlow 27th June 2013 05:05
I think it's probably the combination of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (Unite is basically an expansion of 2, and you can import data from 2 to U). I've sunk around 400 hours into those, with probably 350 of them playing with ElPanachino above.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 27th June 2013 07:51
I tend to shy away from timers in games, it annoys me how many of them are still ticking away when the game is paused.

Some that I have noticed though - I think FF games are a given for all of us, probably an average of 60hr for each main series title.

I sank about 300 hours into my main character on Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and another 100 on a later character. Probably about 150 on Fallout 3 and New Vegas combined.

46 Hours racked up on Ikaruga, which seems a long time for a shoot'em up that takes perhaps half an hour to complete.

Oh, 167 on The Binding of Isaac..... o_0

Oh, 167 on The Binding of Isaac..... o_0

Working on the 100% of that myself.

Yeah, I think I must have spent something like 3 months of my life straight playing Morrowind back when it came out. I literally woke up every day one summer and went back to Vvardenfell. This doesn't count all the time I spent on it outside of that summer either.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 27th June 2013 09:41
Pretty tough, isn't it? I managed it even after a game glitch causes the item you get for beating Ultra Pride to disappear. It took many many playthroughs for Ultra Pride to show up again so I could beat him..again..

Posted by: Del S 27th June 2013 15:18
I think the game I played the most is probably Command and Conquer Retaliation. That, or X-Com or Dawn of War

Others I've played a fair bit are Left 4 Dead, Final Fantasy IX, Timesplitters Future Perfect, Metal Gear Solid, and Championship Manager/Football Manager.

Minecraft

Back when I did Minecraft, I definitely was throwing three or more hours a day at it for a period of six months or more. Some of that was idling, waiting for things to smelt or for the time to change, but still. A lot of time.

Posted by: Narratorway 27th June 2013 21:27
Jesus Christ so much Minecraft...

Before that it was the L4D series. That was damn near non-stop and it only got worse when modding opened up. Between the two I've clocked in over 500 hours on that franchise.

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 27th June 2013 23:06
Among my Steam games, I've spent the greatest amount of logged time playing TF2. However, a good amount of that time was spent idling, so I'm not sure how much counts, though it's still definitely over 150 hours at least. That said, I've also spent some time playing the TF2 metagame, involving trading, buying, and selling items...so maybe that counts against me too.

As for games I've actually taken seriously for what they are, the next highest amount of playtime I've logged on Steam is in Terraria. I played Terraria quite a bit when it was big; the TV Tropes forum had a server. I wonder when the next update will be out...and then at some point I ought to convince some buddies to get into it. (I haven't played Minecraft, but my experience would probably be similar if I did.)

Officially-logged time aside, I think I've spent the most time playing Recettear among my Steam games. I've played that game quite a bit without an internet connection, so even though I've logged only like 90 hours playing it, I've definitely played it much more.

I spent quite a lot of time playing Pokmon Blue when it came out. I had one file where I got to Lavender Town before it got wiped, apparently because my SNES fell off the shelf when I was using it to play the game. Then I had a completed file where I tried repeatedly to fight the Elite Four and Blue Gary and only finally beat them on maybe the 30th try or so. For a time, roughly before and just about when I started high school, it was the game that I played, for roughly a year. Sure I played other games but this kept me interested for lots of reasons -- the sheer amount of exploration and logging (in the form of catching mons) to do and the possibility of actually doing it.

If you count the different versions together, I also played Yellow up to some point (I can't remember where), and a few years later, I tried doing a Red playthrough where I'd catch all the mons using the "mew trick" (I remember having mew, gengar, and a few others by the time I got past Cerulean City). And if you throw in the time I spent playing (about the first 1/3 of) Gold (and a little bit of Crystal a few years later), that's even more time.

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance was the first game I spent an all-nighter playing (and then actually finishing), though I'm pretty sure there are other games I've spent more time on, given that it's only ten hours long per playthrough, and I've only played through it about three times, plus some playing the boss rush (mainly with Simon, who is far cooler than Juste). That said, it's probably the metroidvania game that I am most personally familiar with, since I've done sequence-mapping of that game. That said, I have also played Symphony of the Night at least twice, and probably also Aria of Sorrow.

Another game I spent a ton of time on is Super Mario RPG: I played to the Sunken Ship at my cousins' house then had to stop, but then I later finished a whole game on a hard copy I bought for myself, and then finished it again on ROM. So far remains the only RPG I've ever finished more than once.

Spelunky is a very short roguelike platformer game -- full playthrough in less than an hour -- with randomly generated dungeons and is loads and loads of fun to run through at high speeds, especially as an alternative to less in-depth games like Solitaire or Minesweeper. You'll probably screw up and die many, many, many times, though, especially if you enjoy taking unnecessary risks -- which are always fun in Spelunky. In total I think I started playing the game at least 5000 times over the course of several years. (I properly finished it about 10 times.) If we give just an average of 3 minutes per game start...that's 250 hours of gameplay right there.

Speaking of Minesweeper and Solitaire, I also admit to spending far too much time playing those. But I honestly have little idea how long, other than "I should have been doing something more worth my time, either being productive or playing something more meaningful".

Posted by: TheEvilEye 28th June 2013 13:04
I've also spent a LOT of time on Terraria, probably the best $2.50 I've ever spent. Looking at Steam, I've played 117 hours so far. Still on my first map, trying to get rid of all of the corruption before I go into hard mode and it's taking forever because I was "smart" to choose the biggest world to play single player on. It's sooo fun! That takes the cake for Steam titles so far, but I've been playing a lot more Morrowind lately and overall that would definitely beat out Terraria in total time played. It's at 90 hours on Steam and I'm certain i've sunk over 5x that in its lifespan.

As for console games, this is a really tough call. I still have all of my machines plugged in and go back and forth on pretty much all of them playing my favorites. If I had to guess though, I would say one of the Harvest Moon games takes the cake. They always enthrall me once I begin a new game and then I lose interest once my farm is amazing....then do another playthrough smile.gif.

That's exactly the same for me. I had about 10 accounts throughout my teens with amount of games varying between 200 and 1000. Most games would last 10-15 minutes, then some would go on for an hour or more. That was melee games alone so didn't include the many, many UMS games I played, including a legendary 3 hour Phantom game and endless nights of Fastest Possible Map 4v4 with some Norwegian people I got to know. It's a disgusting amount of time.

That's closely followed by how much Starcraft 2 I'm playing in this past year. My EU account has 1200 games and my NA has about 200 or so I think. If each EU ladder game lasts 20 minutes, which I think is a very good average, I've played 400 hours of Starcraft 2 on the EU ladder alone. Good thing that's basically the ONLY game I play apart from a comparatively small 10 or so hours finishing The Longest Journey, Bioshock Infinite and others.

I'm moving to South Africa next year and this has made me realise how expensive playing Starcraft in a gaming house at an hourly rate is going to cost me. Worth it.

I paid $5, but the same message still applies.

Plus, best bang for the byte: the game is only about 25 MB in filesize.

Oh, another game I've spent tons of time on: Nethack. I'd start playthroughs, and I'd realize that it was easier to just keep playing rather than to put it down and pick it back up later, because there was just so much game data to keep track of (e.g. which levels had vaults, which level had the dwarven mines entrance, which levels have my item stashes, etc.). This, combined with the fact that i'd inevitably f*** up somewhere before getting to experience level 15, meant that most playthroughs that didn't resolve themselves (i.e. Yet Another Stupid Death) in about half an hour would go on for 4 to 6 hours at a time. Repeat every few days for a few months.

I hear bandwidth in South Africa is not in abundance (like it is in the US) and thus they charge by amount of data transferred?

Yeah it's one of the only things that's quite expensive there. Getting an unlimited deal is massively expensive and every other plan or pre payed option limits monthly usage to just a few gb. Even the uni limits daily use to 300mb. I've looked into a gaming house sort of place that I think I'll use for online games because the hourly rate there is much more attractive. Still the amount I'm playing will have to come down unfortunately.

I came home and played at least 1-2 or so hours of rock band every day, every day, my last two years of high school. If you combine all of the guitar hero and rock band games together then my total on that might outnumber all other games I've played combined.

Since people brought up Terraria, I thought I'd check my steam list. It doesn't compare to my Monster Hunter time spent, but it's still a little impressive since I've only had steam since last fall.

The steam games I have the most time spent in are:
Terraria: 166 Hrs
Age of Empires III: 135 Hrs
Duel of the Planeswalkers 2012-2014 (combined): 125 Hrs

I agree with TheEvilEye, Terraria is a great value (I think I got it on sale as well, and I picked up copies for a few of my friends as well.

There are very many, above all else is likely Dark Souls with well over 1000 hours, probably something like 1500 hours. I also have nearly 1000 hours in Final Fantasy 11. I have around 500 hours in Demon's Souls, and over 500 hours in Monster Hunter Tri.

I believe I have roughly 1000 hours in Super Smash Brothers Melee and somewhere around 500 hours in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. My 100% save in Donkey Kong 64 is over 250 hours, anyone who has played will know why.

The Final Fantasy I've played the longest apart from 11 is Final Fantasy 9, with over 100 hours. There are many games I've played with 100 hours or less, so I won't bother to name any more at this point, although I might be missing others with higher.

I'm anticipating Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will be quite high, in any case.

How did you squeeze that much time out of the Souls games? PvP? Co-op?

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 2nd July 2013 07:22
Given the discussion about how much time we've spent on games, I have a sort of related question (mods: please tell me if I should spin this off to a new thread):

How do you feel about the amount of time you've spent on a game? Does it surprise you that you've poured over 100, 200, 500, or even 1000 hours into a particular game? Do you feel your time or money was well spent? (And "yes" is a perfectly fair answer; I don't aim to judge.) Looking back at that time, how did it feel as you spent that much time on it, and what do you think of the game now that you've spent so much time on it?

Posted by: TheEvilEye 2nd July 2013 15:00
I will say of all my games I've played all that time on, I have no regrets. The only games I truly felt I've ever wasted money on were some Wii titles that require motion control (DKCR, Metroid: Other M...). Most of the games I've played were with either a bunch of friends, or with my father, or some of the people here back in the StarCraft days. They are all amazing memories and I wouldn't trade them, and have made some very lasting friendships due to them.

I think on some level, I have also replayed so many games for so long because some games just work as a great de-stresser. To me, it feels good to just relax after long or crazy days with an old favorite.

Edit: I'd also forgotten about how much Super Smash Bros. I've played over the years. If I combined all of the titles into one game, I am sure I would have over 300-400 hours played. I really enjoyed the level customization on the Wii version as well. Boy, talk about endless fun!

No regrets here either, none at all. Even the sheer pointlessness of my biannual then annual FFVII playthrough where the clock's stuck at 99:59 for about 99:59 is fine. When it comes to money and value, I don't think it matters as much to me. I would just as happily play a really good game that's 10 hours long as a really good 200 hour game. Sometimes I'd even prefer the 10 hour one.

I think for me the perfect amount of time I invested in a game was 70 hours of FFT. I saw the whole story, did a bit of grinding for things I wanted, really enjoyed putting a diverse team together and trying a lot of different combinations, and yet it wasn't oppressively time consuming. And when it was over I felt satisfied and didn't feel the need to start again straight away like other games make me do.

Oh and another game series that always seems just to get just the right amount of time out of me is GTA.

Posted by: vividesu 2nd July 2013 19:20
To answer your question, Blinge Odonata, definitely PvP. I've barely played any co-op, but DeS/DkS PvP is truly an amazing thing. I have very high hopes for Dark Souls 2, which is coming early next year.

With regards to how much time I've spent on video games as a whole, I can't say I completely regret any of it, as I feel it was worth the experience. I have great memories with the countless games I've played over the years. However, sometimes I've wondered if I really should have been playing so much Dark Souls, for the sake of example, as it had basically become an addiction. I don't play it nearly as much recently.

Due to the nature of Final Fantasy 11, being an MMO, doing anything in a short period of time is basically impossible, and thanks to the ridiculous amount of content having been active for 11 years I don't think I would be finished with it even after 10000 hours. Which isn't happening, I should add. I do feel like some of my time playing Final Fantasy 11 was wasted.

Using Dark Souls as an example, I could have used a lot of that time to finish games I've yet to play, such as Xenogears or Vagrant Story. Dark Souls is a truly masterful game, and as much as I want to feel like it was time well spent, I think ultimately, after a certain point, I was simply using it to escape reality, during a period where I was depressed.

This became a very long post but in summary, yes, it is very possible that I might regret having spent so much time on very few games, considering how many great titles I've yet to play.

I have spent 1100 hours and two controllers on Demon Souls.
400 hours on dark souls.
4000 hours on civilization 5
300 hours on killing floor
499 hours on EVE online
And 500 hours on dungeon keeper 2
I cannot count how many hours I spent on RTS's namely Wargame : air land battle company of heroes and warhammer 40000 dawn of war, and good old red alert 2..
I LOVE RTS's.

Fire Emblem: Awakening
Final Fantasy 4
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy Dimensions

FF4 and 6 i've probably wasted at least half a year (in hours) at least. I just love those to final fantasies (FF4 ds and FF6 SNES, IOS)

Nice thread revival; I see I must've missed this one the first time around.

For me, my two favorite games of all time come to mind immediately: Final Fantasy X and Vagrant Story. My main file in FFX has at least 130 hours logged, and I've beaten it another three times besides - not to mention the time I've spent with friends while they played. One of those times was over the 100-hour mark as well, since I was also writing a walkthrough and doing data collection.

Vagrant Story has a New Game + feature that opens up a lot of new material, and as such it's really worth playing through the game three times per 'playthrough' in order to be able to reach the additional areas, extra puzzles, and obtain the more powerful equipment. I've done that twice, which I think puts me in the neighborhood of 140 hours.

The third one to mention would be Minecraft. When the MC urge is on, it's on; there have now been two month-long periods in my collegiate career in which I've clocked 2-3 hours a day.

I certainly don't regret the time I've spent on the first two games: my love is usually invested in the story, so all additional labor in my mind goes towards filling out that experience of the world. Minecraft, to me, feels a bit different, just because the payoff is in the creation - and once the server you're on goes away, so does the creation.

380+ hours on Pokemon Leaf Green (My first Pokemon game - I completed the Elite Four in excess of 250 times to raise an army of Level 100 Pokemon.

I then restarted after getting bored of breeding the things and racked up a separate 100 hour save file on that too. This is before I acquired Fire Red, Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald - let's call it an average of 60 hours on each.

Then RPG's came into my life. My first was ARC: Twilight of the Spirits (I know, not FF unsure.gif ) which I sank at least 80 hours into. Not quite sure how, looking back at the game but it was love, what can I say.

Final Fantasy VI & VII I have played a lot over the years. I could not even imagine the hours to life ratio.

These days I procrastinate by playing League of Legends, and have become rather proficient for someone who's only been playing it a year. I have a highly addictive personality, better gaming than drugs I always say!

I want to start this thread back up again if possible, I enjoyed looking over everyone's stories and the games they sink their time into.

Most of what I have said previously is still true (I have logged even more hours on World of WarCraft since), but want to add that Stardew Valley is my latest time sink. I have logged 400 hours into that now apparently, and it has only been out a little more than a year. It is a perfect combination of my love for the old Harvest Moon games (of which I've sunk endless hours in as well), and a new fresh take with way better dialogue and improvements upon almost every single thing the HM franchise had going for it. It really has been an incredible experience.

With my free time slowly chipping away as I'm getting older, I lately find more comfort in playing old games again for their familiarity over trying lots of new games. I'm not quite sure why that is. Guess I'm just becoming a grumpy old man. Don't get me wrong, I loved new phenomenal games like Undertale as much as the next person, but there's just something about finding new ways to break an old game that are endlessly entertaining to me.

I have spent well over 1,000 hours on Final Fantasy VIII.

Probably a few thousand on EA's NHL franchise over the years.

Pushing 1,000 on Final Fantasy Tactics, Civilization IV.

Several thousand more on the Pokemon games for GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS.

Probably around 500+ hours on the Tomb Raider franchise.

Over the years though, I'm probably pushing 10,000 on Mario games haha.

I don't like very many things, so the things I do enjoy, I spend a lot of time on.

You know what I'm going to do?

I'm going to start a new game of FF7 which I will play to the end of right now, neglecting all my social and familial obligations until such time as Omnislash is executed.

It is the 20th anniversary of FF7's Japanese Release Date and by God I'm gonna kill that GUY!!

DEATH TO YOU YOU SEPHIROTH!

Last time I commented in this thread was 2013. I have since blown away my 132 hrs in DQIX with over 500hrs in Skyrim on a single game. The reason I'm still playing on it is I haven't yet gotten all the achievements for the game yet.

Metroid games for sure one of them.I spend a lot of time exploring and enjoying the atmosphere, because it is so important in the game series.

Zelda games:Don't ask me how many times i have played zelda, because i don't know
Dark souls.I haven't had a game in a while hook me that much, and keep me wanting more.Even after i beat it i wanted more, but decided i didn't want to spoil what i had and replayit another time.I was hooked for a bitover a month with this game, and thats pretty insane.

Various ff games:Because i obsess over getting everything and i can't help it.Only game i wanted to be done with is 13.Even 7 was more entertaining for me.

Chrono trigger:Because its so good, and it has multiple endings. This game predates mass effect multi ending options, and it has it this early. It has solid music, solid story solid gameplay, making it a very enjoyable experience

Suikoden series, especially 1, 2.I never got into 5 for some reason, and i never beat it.I put it down and left it.Suikoden 1 was good and fun.I didn't take it too serious(like ff5) and thought even though it was kinda cheesy at times, and the graphics weren't that good for ps1, it was quite enjoyable.Suikoden 2 was where the series got real good.I play games a lot of times for story, and the villain is very memorable(like kefka)

Castlevania 4:I love castlevania 4 more than any other one i think in the series. The atmosphere music even good whipping and fair challenge, make it a amazing game.Sure it could have been a little harder, but thats not the point:Point is you aren't limited by whipping direction.Castlevania X rondo of blood went backwards to castlevania nes style controls, and being completely helpless when on stairs. That of course doesn't disqualify the quality of the games, as castlevania 3 has excellent music(better than 1 in my opinion) and amazing level design.

Kartia word of fate:I played multiple times and a amazing experience. The story is about using these magic cards to summon stuff, but they find out that the stuff they summon isn't unlimited and is finite in the world, and some want to keep drawing upon those finite resources and you have to stop them.

Parasite eve series:1 and 2 are amazing games, even if people don't like it, i think its still a great game.

Breath of fire series:I played 1 like probably 20 times already, because its a amazing game, 2 i don't know how many times and 3 a bunch of times as well.

I ended up with about 105 in FF13 before I moved on to 13-2, and I've now got about 80 in that game and I expect another six or so to finish it 100%.

I think I ended up with about 90 in 13-2, and then another 90 or so in Lightning Returns, for a grand total of a shade under 300 hours across that series. I still someday will go back to 13-1 again for more achievements.

Did you beat all the challenges in XIII?

I think the most I've put into a game might be Metal Gear Online (that came on the disc with MGS4). 370 hours playing mosty with my clan, had some pretty dedicated people, but the majority of our matches were friendlies, we didn't take it too seriously, it was a lot of fun. We played every Sunday evening, when we started it was often Friday evening as well.

I suspect I would have far more hours invested but Konami were pretty quick to shut the servers down when they saw the online part wasn't making much money. Good times.
Sadly we have yet to agree on a game everyone is interested in playing since then which was a while back now, hopefully one day we will find something! As for single player games, I'm not sure off the top of my head, most likely an RPG, but I doubt it would rival some of the times others have stated in this thread.

No, that's part of what I'd go back for. I never have before because farming Traps is agonizing.

I platted XIII and yeah. Farming sucked on that game. I did the treasure hunter trophy ASAP once the world opened up and wow. The game was pretty fun after that point. I remember how much I loved fighting the Undying (especially Atticus). Did any of you notice the Final Fantasy V easter egg in XIII's trophy list? I freaked at the reference when I first noticed it.

Battlefield 1, Overwatch and many more Multiplayer games.

I've got about 120 hours into Final Fantasy XV now in a single playthrough. I still have more to do in there, but I need a break for a bit.

Geez lots of hours sunk into lots of games over the years but League of Legends definitely is the front runner for me as I originally started playing in season one - stopped - then picked it up again in season 3 to present. I would say at least 2,000+ hours over the years.

Put about 70 hours into my most recent FFVII play through and about 50 hours into my FFVI play through.

On top of that I've sunk hundreds of hours into the different Elder Scrolls and Fallout games over the years as well.

Resident Evil series was always a big one for me also.

Just started on Zelda: Breath of the Wild and I can already tell this is going to be a 100-200 hour game most likely.

Posted by: Magitek_slayer 8th November 2017 15:31
FF4 FF6 FF1 nes Breath of fire Castlevania 4 Castlevania circle of the moon i literally had the patience to beat the game recently and non stop playing through it to the end on every mode, the most fun being for me shooter mode.

Of newer games:Dark souls was pretty addictive gameplay. Its a really enjoyable game with cool ideas.

Anyway. Turns out Steam says I've spent over 200 hours on GTAV, which both does and doesn't make sense.

I don't remember playing this game as much as it says at least compared to the other games it lists, but then I realize a lot of the game I've played long hours in were games I didn't play on Steam. Notably: Skyrim.

That being said, I do find I've been spending quite a bit of time in the game simply...walking around. It is genuinely fascinating simply existing in a such a fully realized digital space and just...walking the earth as it were.

Since I last posted here, I've added 100% Orange Juice to the list of games I've spent hundreds of hours on. It came out around the time I first posted in this thread. My Steam timecount for the game includes a lot of time spent waiting for people to join my multiplayer lobby, but on the other hand it also doesn't include time spent playing the game before it even got on Steam, nor time spent writing up a whole guide for new players or generally discussing/strategizing about the game.

I've also added The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. Having heard that the NPCs in this game basically have something new and interesting to say after every major plot event flag, I actually started to "do rounds" to talk to everyone and that's slowed me down a lot, plus I tend to take about twice as long to play JRPGs for some reason, so this game which other people estimate to take about 40-50 hours has taken me over 75 hours now. I'm very close to the end of the game, though, but this is reminding me of how I felt like "whoa, this has been a really long adventure" when I got to the "coffee break" scene in Earthbound.

Yeah, Earthbound was also pretty long. Though probably not as long as Trails in the Sky plus its sequel -- for those who know this series, they'll know this first game is just the first of a duology and the sequel is even longer. The game is just as people said it'd be -- it was a slow burn to come to all the plot details, but the drama and tension are ramping up amazingly quickly in the final chapter. Political intrigue is going on and the depth of the setting and writing is astonishing -- I was worried I wouldn't get what's going on but I'm watching all these pieces fall into place and everything is coming together now.

In recent weeks I've also picked up Mini Metro. While I've only spent like twentysomething hours on it so far, it's definitely a good timesink, especially if I play endless mode and let a system run indefinitely to see how much ridership can top off at.
