Caves of Narshe Forums > Final Fantasy VI > NG+ on Retron5 not working

Posted by: KlownKefka 23rd August 2016 10:52
I downloaded Master Zed's New Game Plus patch and have it running on my Retron5. Whenever I go to the tutorial guy in the WoR and say Yes to New Game+, the screen flickers for a brief second, then goes all black. The music stays the same, but nothing happens. Does anyone know why, or a fix? I would love to be able to get New Game+ working on my Retron 5.

You're using FF6 Version 1.1.

Use FF6 Version 1.0, which Master Zed's patch was designed for.

Sadly I am using 1.0. I can sketch glitch and everything.

Well not sadly because that's like the best version of the game, just sad that that isn't the resolution to it. I was actually afraid the patch was designed for 1.1 so I wouldn't be able to use it.

EDIT: I downloaded an Emulator and a 1.0 ROM to test it, and it does the same thing. Goes to a black screen. I'm gonna try to find a 1.1 ROM and test that.

EDIT 2: Doesn't work with a 1.1 ROM either, all black screen with music still paying. Not sure what the issue is. Sadface.

Are you using any other patches in tandem with it? It doesn't play well with my Stand Guard patch, either.

Or, you may be dealing with the Retron5's emulation doing some game-specific hacks on-the-fly (and without notifying you) that are causing the blackout.

Those are my guesses anyway.

No, the Retron5 only allows you to use one patch. I tested it with SNES9x and it did the same thing. What emulator do you use?

That's a possibility. If you use the SNES9x emulator like I was, my next shot is going to be seeing if I can just play through the game on emulator and see if the New Game+ works, and if so then try that save on the Retron5. The emulator doing something to the file is a possibility, especially since it saves in .sav format.

It might be expecting the save file to be .srm format? ...Just another guess, it is.
