***Spoilers***
He was susceptible to Jevona, just like Professor Gast's notes said the Ancients were. He heard other voices in his head, just like Tseng told Aeris' Mom that the Ancients do. We never find out who Cloud's father is. He shows incredible strength and resilience, even defeating Sephiroth before being fully trained. And he survives being submerged in the Life Stream for an extended period of time. I think Cloud was an Ancient, like Aeris. Although perhaps only half-Ancient, with his mother a human. What do you think? I remember there being other clues to this... |

I think almost everything you list is as a result of the experiments performed on him by Hojo, which involved Jenova cells. The only exception is beating Sephiroth - And he was kinda pissed off at that point, not to mention Mister Bigsword Floppyhair was kinda off his rocker.

I'm on the bandwagon that Cloud himself killed Aeris because no one makes mention of Sephiroth when he's FLOATNG RIGHT THERE! It feels like they just go by his word alone. Yes, I'm crazy, we've established this. But with Sephiroth having taken control of Cloud's mind before, it doesn't seem to far fetched for me to think this way. I'll rewatch the videos and hope I'm wrong.
On topic; original genetics or not, I believe with the amount of J-cells Hojo was throwing around, there might be enough in Cloud to cause his DNA to replicate the way an Ancient's would. Maybe he's not an Ancient, but some major splicing seems very likely. Granted, replication cannot turn a cat into a dog or cause much in the way of changes in visual characteristics, but I can certainly believe that the corruption of his genetic paradigm would cause the brain to overload into insanity and cause him to believe that he was an Ancient of some form or another. Conspiracy theories aside, I find this topic fascinating. Thank you for bringing it up! -------------------- |

Wouldn't be the first time that the technical details of genetic engineering were given a pass in fiction writing, either.

Well, who was Cloud's father, I guess is the big question.

Quote (MogMaster @ 19th December 2013 09:34) Well, who was Cloud's father, I guess is the big question. Yeah, seriously, who is his father? We don't know that much about his mother either for that matter. My guess is that his father left before he was born. He has a childhood desire to run away and fill the void with success and fame, and his obsession with Sephiroth that could be seen as a bit of a surrogate father figure. I think the only Ancient left is Aeris. Here's why: Cloud can't use the White Materia, the planet tells Aeris she's the only one; the planet doesn't speak to him (there are many voices in his head but I can't think of anything that would be the planet itself); in Last Order Sephiroth isn't thrown into the Lifestream at the Nibelheim Reactor by Cloud he jumps in himself, so I'm guessing Cloud's strength was a kind of special heroic moment that also nearly killed him, and it's also probably the most confusing part of the game; and finally all the experiments that were done on Cloud were with Jenova cells, and Jenova wasn't an Ancient she was a roaming alien death god thing, even though the game once or twice reads that she's an Ancient... In summary Cloud could be an Ancient because nearly anything is possible with the script we got in the west, but he most likely isn't. Oh and I think it was one of the Sephiroth reunion clone things that got Aeris because remember the rest of the party with Cloud could see onto the platform? They tell him to stop just before you try and cleave her in two with the Buster Sword. If the rest of the group saw Cloud kill her I don't think they'd continue as if Sephiroth did it, they'd surely put him in Yuffie's Wutai cage and carry on without him so he doesn't kill anyone else.
