I recently beat Emerald Weapon and developed a pretty good strategy to beat him early on. This strategy does require you to abuse the W-Item glitch.

Requirements:
Character: Yuffie with Conformer
Level: Level 65 or so
Materia: W-Item, Enemy Skill with Big Guard, Deathblow, Added Cut,
Items: 99 Megalixers, Spider Webs, Hero Drinks, T/S Bombs or Graviballs

Party:
Cloud
Ultima Weapon (if you have it)
Fourth Bracelet
Circlet

Yuffie
Conformer
Minerva Band
Circlet

Cid
Scimitar
Aegis Armlet
Tough Ring

Materia:
Cloud: HP Plus MASTERED, Underwater, W-Item
Yuffie: Deathblow-Added Cut, HP Plus MASTERED
Cid: HP Plus MASTERED, Enemy Skill with Big Guard

Strategy:
-Emerald Will always start with Emerald Shoot, have Cid use a Megalixer right away. Cloud uses W-Item to give himself and Cid Hero Drinks. Yuffie gives herself a Hero Drink.
-Repeat this pattern until each character has 4 Hero Drinks used on them. Hero Drinks up your Attack and Defense by 30% and can be stacked 4 times.
-When Emerald opens his shoulder cannons, have Cid use Big Guard. This will help nullify Emerald's shoulder cannon damage down to about 1000 each character with the help of the Hero Drinks. Revenge Stamp should do a meager 500 or so.
-Cloud uses W-Item: T/S Bombs+Megalixer. Everytime the Shoulder Cannons respawn, use a Spider Web to cast slow on them.
-Yuffie uses Deathblow+Added Cut on Emerald's body, All Creation when able to attack Shoulder Cannons.
-Cid spams Megalixers and re-ups Big Guard
-When Emerald's shoulder cannons die, spam limit breaks (you should be full by then)
-Repeat this process. Should take about 30-40 minutes.

Notes
-Minimum Materia is staple. Emerald's Aire Tam Storm does 1111 damage for each piece of materia equipped. (ex: 3 Materia = 3333 damage, 5 = 5555 and so on). I used Cid so I could put one Ultima materia in his Scimitar slot to take advantage of the 50000 AP.
-Emerald Blast will never kill you. It's a percentage attack but it takes roughly 75% of your health. Keep spamming those Megalixers.
-Yuffie using the Conformer is also essential. The weapon bases its attack on the enemy's level. Emerald Weapon is Level 99. You will always do 9999 damage or close to it.
-Emerald is succeptable to Gravity attacks. Using the W-Item allows you to cast Demi-2 and heal in one turn.

It's a long, grinding process but it makes it easier if you don't want to wait to breed a Gold Chocobo, use Mime and KOTR

Enjoy!

I thought I knew everything that works and doesn't work against Emerald but man, you've slightly blown my mind there. I didn't know that Emerald and his Eyes can be slowed. Must try that next time I fire up my save.

It's a cool strategy though. I'm a big fan of using as many items as possible when I play it! I've got some other tips if you're interested.

First up, get everyone into the back row in the menu and put Sadness on all of them with Tranquilizers. This will half physical damage by being in the back row and half ALL damage by having Sadness. The weaker damage is way better than filling Limit Breaks, and the 75% attack will fill it up anyway.

The Fourth Bracelet and Aegis Armlets are an unfortunate armour because they actually don't work! Magic Defence is a broken stat in the game so anything that purports to boost it is lying to you. The only stat that can protect from magic is Spirit. So theyshould be a great armours and instead it's not very good at all.

If you're going for the Conformer steal a Ziedrich from Rude in the Gelnika and equip that instead. It has high physical defence and it defends half from all elements. Is elemental defence good against Emerald? No, BUT the Ziedrich is a hilarious armour because physical damage is considered an element to it and it outright halves that too. So from back row, Sadness and Ziedrich you're taking 88% less physical damage from him! And that's not even taking Hero Drink into account, lol.

For other armour consider Warrior Bangles or Gigas Armlets for characters who're attacking with multi-hit Limit Breaks because they boost Strength by 20 and 30 respectively... which is amazing. And they have really good defence. What has an even better defence however is Adaman Bangles that you steal from Adamantoise out on the Wutai beach. The Adaman Bangles don't boost Strength though so I don't bother with them.

One last note, Hero Drinks put up all your stats by 30% to a cap of 100% so it's actually much better than just attack and defence. So if you have 100 Strength the maximum 4 Hero Drinks will take it to 200 in the battle. Hero Drinks can even take your stats over the 255 max.

Huh. I had no idea about Magic DEF being a worthless stat LOL. Guess it's kind of like FF6's Evade eh?

Yeah the Spider Webs came as a bit of a surprise to me. I was literally just jerkin around throwing items at Emerald, everything from Dazers to War Gongs and it surprised the Hell out of me too!

As for Sadness, I forgot to mention I put everyone in the back row and tranquilized them. Sad day for them haha.

Yeah give it a shot. I actually came up with the idea when I fired up the PSN version, and remembered the last time I played I pretty much used Deathblow+Added Cut as an early "Double Cut" with Yuffie and Vincent with the Sniper CR. Got the Conformer, put two and two together and tried it on Disc 2... realized my levels were way too low (I tried at like Level 50 with 3* HP Plus). Did a bit of grinding and viola... Master Materia before the Northern Cave smile.gif

Wanted to add that Fourth Bracelet isn't actually that bad because it has +20 magic, the same as a Wizard Bracelet. So if you don't need the extra materia slots on your mage (which you probably do to boost their magic stat sky high with reds and greens) then go with the FB because it has a higher physical defence. So I take back what I said about it not being very good; it isn't bad if you want the extra defence for a mage.

Also, if you want to avoid the time it takes to master out three HP Pluses you can fight him with all the materia in one character (W-Item, Enemy Skill, Underwater, HP Plus and so on) and the others with nothing. The objective is to get to the stage to kill all of Emeralds Eyes apart from an MP attacking one. At this point all Emerald's attacks cannot kill you apart from his counter-attack, which counters everything except Limit Breaks. Aire Tam Storm does 0 damage, Emerald Beam does 75% damage (can fill Limit Break) and the Eye will only take off MP. From here you can just heal and use single hit Limit Breaks (Climhazard, Greased Lightening with Conformer recommended!) every turn on his body.

If the Conformer does 9999 guaranteed, why wouldn't you use Double Cut + Added Cut instead of Deathblow? Sounds like a really solid strategy though, I might give it a shot as I get closer to taking on Emerald Weapon.

You know what i did? i got one person with mastered knights of the round and quadra summon for multi summons, and then gave 3 people mimic. There is no way you can lose with that setup, even against emerald weapon. There is no strategy involved because its just incredibly cheap.

cavernofnarshe is awesome. I love the way u guys presented the guide.
even though the one made by absolutesteve has more details, you guys presented them in a much greater way!!

Look like this is a good way to beat Emerald using the imba Mime
But you use the W-Glitch
I can easily use Mime + w-magic Ultima to kill Emerald at level 50
1 char feed 4 hero drinks on Cloud or whoever.
Cloud lvl 50 with 4 star Magic + and 4 star HP plus and Mime have just enough to survive, can kill emerald after 50 mime

Im trying to find way to beat Emerald / Ruby without Mime ^^
