im pretty sure that legend of the dragoon is fairly well known. and as far as unknown games, i havent played any of them, because most of their unknown games were from before ff, and werent very good.

Legend of Dragoon wasn't made by Square.

LOL If we're including LoD, then maybe he just means games that look like they could have been made by Square from the style of game.

But a good game from Square that isn't a FF game would be Parasite Eve 1, it never came to Europe and is sooo much better than PE2, PE1 was a game that seemed to be properly planned, good grounds for it, good level of graphics for its time, battle system is good (well, apart from the ammo, lol. any ammo could be used in any gun, lol try putting 9mm rounds in a rocket launcher in real life and having it work! XD)

Hm, another would be Valkyrie Profile, I THINK it was made by Square, it was absolute ages since I played it.

Valkyrie Profile was made by Tri-Ace and Enix, before the Square-Enix merger. The remake, VP: Lenneth was published by Square-Enix.

And for this category, I'd say Threads of Fate. Unknown and underrated, that.

I would probably (and will) say Live a Live.

Another Snes classic that was never released outside of Japan, but unlike FF5 or Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2) it did not really become an emulation hit.

It's got a great battle system, a surprisingly good plot, with some awesome twists considering it's from '92 or so. It even answers the age old questions: Who would win in a fight, a kung fu master from China, a ninja from Japan, a gunslinger from the Old West or a robot from the future?

...why would they want to fight each other, when they can fight evil together?

Terranigma's great, plus it's the only game I know of that had a full English-language release in Europe, but not the United States. Ah well, at least we got Chrono Trigger. Its two predecessors, Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia, are also pretty good

However, it was made by Enix and Quintet, not Square or Square-Enix. Quintet's the same team that made ActRaiser, another great game.

I think that the first Parasite Eve qualifies, considering that it was released after Final Fantasy VII. People claim it to be similar to Resident Evil, but I think it's a completely unique game. It's one of my favorite games, but I've never beaten it.

I can't give a fairly good opinion on the second Parasite Eve game since I've never played it, but I've heard that a lot was changed from the first game.

Tales of Destiny I & II

They are not from (SquareSoft)-Enix, they were actualy made by Bandai-(Namco) for the PlaystationONE.

They look like a game that Square would have made, only they didn't. If you can, e bay'em!

My friend let me borrow his copy of Final Fantasy Legend (which I had never heard of before) and it was pretty good. The ending was a little odd because the whole game lacked deep storyline, but I thought some aspects of game play were creative.

Vagrant Story was quite good. A lot of my friends didn't care for the micromanagement aspects, but I'm pretty obsessive about that sort of thing. Most isn't even necessary so I'd recommend the game to anyone.

Vagrant Story is one of my favorite games I've ever played. I actually just recently beat it again. I simply love the story. I also really enjoyed parasite eve. I'm not sure if I would consider either game as virtually unknown though...

I'd have to say not all of the ones Before SNES were bad. Then again some may say cause it carried the namesake of Final Fantasy it shouldn't be included in this thread but FF Adventure also known as the first Mana game it was as close as I could get to a Zelda game on Game Boy and the GBA remake of which they got the name right Sword of Mana wasn't really close enough to call it a remake. I think it was very underrated.

Brave Fencer Musashi

As has been stated, LoD was not produced by Square. And, IMHO, it's not that great.

Brave Fencer Musashi is a freaking fun game. I remember playing the demo when I first got a PlayStation, and then getting the full game later. Shame it got ruined and I can't find another copy ;_;

I loved Sword of Mana. It was probably the last good Mana game sad.gif . Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3 were freaking awesome; I beat SD3 more times than I can count. It makes me sad that SD3 was never brought over because it would have been 500 times better than Secret of Evermore, imo.

I never played Vagrant Story. Isn't that the non Final Fantasy game that takes place in Ivalice, from F.F. Tactics and XII?

Yes, but any connections are very thin. It's essentially a dungeon crawler as well, so there's no opportunity to explore about. I've never played FFT, but between my playthoughs in FFXII and VS the only similarity I found was a name: Lea Monde is the name of the ruined city in VS, while Leamonde is the name of the dark elemental enemy in FFXII.

Odd how they would give such little connection, considering it was in the same world. Even if they were thousands of years apart, one would think that you could see some kind of historical connection. I hate it when Square does that..

I *think* that there is more of a ocnnection. Never played Vagrant Story, but according to wikipedia:

"There is no direct mention of Ivalice in Vagrant Story. However, several references are made; the Kingdom of Valendia, the setting for Vagrant Story, shares its name with a continent of Ivalice appearing in Final Fantasy XII. The Kiltia religion, featured in Final Fantasy XII, was the religion of the ghost town Leá Monde, in which the story takes place. Additionally, a quotation from Alazlam J. Durai, a famous historian of Ivalice who lived 400 years after the Lion War (and narrator of the Zodiac Brave Story told in Final Fantasy Tactics), is used at the beginning of the game,[20] and the descriptions of several items make direct reference to the same story.[21] This would seem to place Vagrant Story latest in the timeline, given its direct references to the events of Final Fantasy Tactics."

some that i would mention are ff legends 3 and thread of fate. the first is really good but tends to be very difficult. threads of fate is a game i think everyone should at least look up. it isn't as great as some other games but it has a unique storyline and a nice battle system.

Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore both were incredible games I'm surprised no one knows. They were great fun, and the main guy totally looks like Crono from CT. And the girl's outfit is like a pink version of Marle's.

i have to say Secret of Mana too, cause it sort of under the radar and underrated; its almost like a cult classic (like FF used to be).

i only heard about it earlier this year.

...People haven't heard of Secret of Mana? Seriously?

Well, if no one's heard of Secret of Mana, then fewer people have heard of its sequel Seiken Densetsu III, which I think is a better game.

Oh, and Secret of Evermore was never "brought over" or anything. It's an American game and never had a Japanese release.

I thought the same thing. The Mana series really seemed like a bigger hit than that to me.

And I definitely agree that SD3 > SoM.
