Caves of Narshe Forums > Comments and Suggestions > FF6 walkthrough sucks.

I haven't played FF6 for a while, so thought I'd use the CoN walkthrough as a guide. What a mistake that was! The walkthrough is terrible; it's badly written, there are too many "clever" comments and snarky remarks littered throughout, making it difficult to follow along, and information isn't clearly presented.

For a site dedicated to the old-school FF games it's shocking the walkthrough is as bad as it is.

Well, that's just like...your opinion, man.

Hey! What're you doing!? That's not how we do things here!

This is.

I think its a decent enough walkthrough. Im using it right now for Lores and Rages.

"Clever comments" dont make the guide bad.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not here to troll. Overall this site is a very useful resource, it's just that the walkthrough for FF6 could be easier to follow. There is also one actual inaccuracy that I've found just recently, specifically:

The World Inside the Zone Eater

Take the stairs down. You'll see another set of stairs going further down, but these'll just take you to a blocked-off path. You'll want to go to the right, to a crazy section of unstable wooden pathways...

It should actually say left rather than right, as underlined. Just one example of an error I found today.

redacted EDIT: I thought the walkthrough was the original one, but it's not.

I haven't looked at it in years, so I did just now, and it does have a certain style that you don't see in walkthroughs these days. I agree that it could use an edit, but it's very helpful still.

That walkthrough has been up since the early 2000s. It's 20 years old, or around there somewhere.

For what it's worth, we replaced the original CoN walkthrough with Djibriel's in 2013. I can't believe that means it's been on the site for almost seven years already, but it definitely isn't the one you were originally thinking of, Elena. biggrin.gif

I'd kind of stayed out of this thread until now, but now that I'm here, I'm quite sorry that the walkthrough isn't to your liking, OP. However, I think there's a pretty big difference between "it sucks" and "I don't like the style," and that should be made clear.

Our walkthrough is a complete edit for tone, syntax, and accuracy from Djibriel's original, which has been one of the most-recommended FF6 walkthroughs on GameFAQs since its original publication. In fact, it took a little negotiation with Dji to tone down the "cleverness" from the original, as some parts of it were a little more than we were looking for here. smile.gif

I have no doubt that there are errors in the walkthrough, of course, because humans gonna human, and most parts of the guides have passed through three or four sets of human hands by now; if it's as rife with error as you imply by saying "Just one example of an error I found today," though, I would be more than happy to have your contributions towards fixing those errors in a separate thread.

lol! Sorry, I had no idea. It's hard to tell walkthroughs apart, I guess.

I used the FF6 walk through for my first play through a couple years ago, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Became my favorite FF game! flag-olly.gif

I didn't have a walkthrough when I first played. I was the go to guy when someone wanted to figure out how to beat a game. It wasn't too difficult for me the first time. I think it's best if they are described in outline.

I'm sure Gamefaqs has clear guides. I don't know how good they are compared to ones here since I don't need to read them. tongue.gif

It was most likely written twenty years ago. I still from time to time look at Final Fantasy Site guides and notice they still thank Dr Gamewiz or AeroStar13 which shows the age of the guide. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I really can't read the older guides anymore...I am kind of spoiled. To be fair I remember the official guides (In book form) back in the day missing important information and the same with online guides. So when you found out something like

MAJOR SPOILER

You can save CID from dying
it felt like only you knew about this because most people even when you mentioned it didn't believe what you were saying since even the Guide Books didnt mention this. So it made potential rumors about bringing someone back to life or hidden items or locations true.

90s was about a whole lot of snarky attitude and I can't imagine old guides have not aged well. I still lul when I read guides that still claim Claude of GTAIII is named, 'Fido' which is a dog's name which is used as a reference of a dog fetching something for his or her master.

My last post in this thread does a pretty good job of addressing this. You are wrong.
