I personally call her Aerith, just because that's the named I learned her under.

It's Aeris in the version I played, but it's never been a big deal to me.

I don't care what anyone else thinks. It's Aeris.

Well, her actual name is Aerith, so I guess it's Aerith much in the same way nobody calls her 'Valvalis' anymore. But the problem with Aerith is that you sound like you have a lisp while you say it. So I could go either way, I guess.

Both.
Yes, Both. Take a look at various Anglicised names out there, such as Scots/Irish names as the Anglo-Saxons try to spell them. Callum for Calum, (possibly) Patrick for Padraic, Shaun for Seán, and so on. Simply pick one to be the "Cetran" spelling, one to be the "Midgarian" spelling, and This post has been edited by Del S on 28th October 2010 09:37 -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

On topic, though, I prefer Aeris. It sounds like a much more realistic name, and just rolls off the tongue better And the lisp thing too. -------------------- current games (2024-02-19): Fairy Fencer F ADF Pokémon Perfect Crystal finished so far this year: Gato Roboto drowning, drowning New Super Mario Bros. I prefer 'Aeris'.
I hate 'Aerith'. It sounds like someone with a lisp, trying to say Aeris. It just irritates me a little. EDIT: I see someone's already beat me to it. This post has been edited by Fatal on 28th October 2010 23:51 -------------------- |

When I am playing FFVII, it's Aeris. (I pronounce it like the zodiac sign).
In other games, and if a remake of VII ever appears, it's Aerith. Basically, I go with what the game says, which is why I prefer accurate translations. |

Aerith. I got really used to it from playing Kingdom Hearts and Crisis Core, and Aeris just looks wrong to me now. I rename Aeris Aerith when I play FFVII now.

So it seems that the Law of First Impressions applies rather well to this dispute.

It doesn't really matter whether it's Aeris or Aerith, but the official name is AERITH. Although most people don't want to sound like they have a lisp

uhh... wasn't there already a topic about this a few years ago?
Anyway, l'm going to go with Del S on this one. Both work, it's just a spelling thing l think. Kind of like with words like color/colour, and like the name kain/kaine/cane/kane/cain/caine/etc. lt's all good. -------------------- "You know that feeling you get when you're on a merry go 'round, and you want to jump off to make the spinning stop, but you know it'll suck when you land? I've always used Aeris, thats what it was when the game initially came out and its what i've used for the past 10 years.
I also pronounce Aeris like Aries as it is the first thing that came to mind i guess. This post has been edited by GamblingCat on 6th January 2011 20:56 |

Aerith sounds awful. Aeris sounds like a starsign. I'll go with the one that sounds better and is generated by the game for the same reason I don't call Amarant his original Salamander name.

Since I first saw her name as Aeris, I used to always say that. Now because of Crisis Core I tend to say Aerith. When I talk about CC I call her Aerith and Aeris when I'm talking about FFVII. lol.
Edit!: However now I constantly refer to her as Aerith! If I talk to my brothers (who originally started the Final Fantasy craze in our house after our Mom bought FFVII) I will say Aeris, the name I grew up with, now if talking to anyone else or particularly my friend, I say Aerith. Strange how time changes your mind. This post has been edited by FinalFantasyAoibh on 21st July 2011 00:03 -------------------- "Please don't give me all my luck now. Make it all stretch. The name Aeris sounds appropriate to me. It's a derivative spelling of the Greek goddess of dischord. One of the sisters of Ares and the jealous soul who started the Trojan War because she wasn't invited to a party.
