Quote (Rangers51 @ 19th November 2010 21:42) Quote (Endymion @ 19th November 2010 20:29) I have to just ask one question: At minimum, what would you want to open a section for a game? The bare minimum would be everything that we have for Chrono Trigger. A full walkthrough, data for all the major categories like weapons, armor, enemies, etc., a good collection of miniguides, and all the images necessary to match. It would be all the better if we're the only site that has the bulk of the content. I have kind of a suggestion for new content, not for new games necessarily. Maybe we could find someone on Youtube somewhere that does walkthroughs for the games we cover. Maybe you could imbed the vids on the specific chapters? I know it'd be easy for VII, since I've seen someone do a walkthrough for the game. I don't know if this is a good suggestion, but, oh well. We have discussed that, Blitzsage, and I don't think we'd be interested unless we produced the videos ourselves based on our own walkthroughs. There's plenty of good work out there, I'm sure, but why have video that doesn't match exactly the walkthroughs written out on the site?

I can understand why it would be a lot of work re-working the site and adding new content such as walkthroughs etc, but would it be impossible to create a FFIX forum section?
There are loads of sites out there that give other sites permission to post their walkthroughs etc. Is this not a viable short-term solution to saving time, when it sounds like the majority of the people here just want to talk about the game? Great work with the VII section btw! |

Same answer as we gave previously (in another topic):
Quote (Tiddles) I'll bring out my usual points on the subject of having more forums. You can't just create forum sections in the hope that topics will fill them. That's just not how it works. For anyone who's tried the "Let's make my own pointless message board" game - and got anywhere with it - this was lesson number one. Empty forums don't encourage traffic on that subject, apart from at most one pity topic, regardless of what their name or supposed subject of discussion is. The other point: There's a perfectly good forum for discussing other Square/SE games already. If you want to talk FF9, you can do it in General Squenix. Making a big empty room (aside from the crickets) would not make more people talk about it than they do there. With the level of traffic we have now, if we made any forum structure changes, it should be to consolidate the existing Final Fantasy/Square forums into one. Maybe the whole lot. Not to throw fit at the shan, but wasn't there talk among the mods about an FFVIII section on chat a few weeks ago?

In terms of games that aren't on the site at all right now, not just yet. We're working on improving some of our older coverage right now, it's just going amazingly slowly. This means that you can probably expect sometime in the future for some games to have more versions covered, and covered better, than we have right now.

We're happy to accept help, for sure, including from you if you can keep your language in your posts in check. As far as DoS is concerned, we were considering (and would still love to consider) adding the FF1 release from that version to the site. The biggest roadblock is getting new walkthrough content for the massive dungeons that they added, including full equipment stats for all the new stuff added in that release. Someday, should the site keep plugging along, adding FF2 from DoS (and Origins, and PSP, etc.) would be lovely, to fill one of our longest-standing gaps in coverage. However, it's hard to get traction on such a project because there's only about eight people on the internet who have played and liked the game enough to put the time in. I've been thinking about this for a while, and since CoN is my one-stop-shop for anything I need to know Final Fantasy-wise I was hoping I could persuade the admin here let me write a FFVIII, FFX and FFXIII section, as well as help with FFIX and FFXII.
I know FFVIII inside out, after playing it about 5-6 times, and know all the little tricks with cards and stat-maxing etc. I've already written a detailed walkthrough(with and w/o spoilers) and written 4 guides on Chocobo Forests, defeating X-ATM092, Triple Triad and getting everyone's weapons with enemy data. I just need to rip images of the cards from the PC version and I should be done with the Triple Triad one. I still need images of every enemy other than Omega Weapon(since I made a TT card of him myself ) FFX I've only played through twice, but I am a self-proclaimed master of Blitzball, and considering I've also had a Blitzball maximum of 23 goals in one game, I'm pretty sure my proclamation is valid. I've written about 2/3 of a full walkthrough with and w/o spoilers and I also wrote a guide on Sphere Grid maxing, which takes a good 20+ hours to do in itself. I've 100% finished FFXIII by getting all achievements and the story only took 20 hours to finish and about three days to write a guide for. I've got a PDF of the Piggyback strategy guide which I can get maps and enemy pictures from. I have a friend who can probably rip the 3D models of the weapons too. I didn't really like FFXII, but I suppose I can do some tidbits for it. If you add a Revenant Wings section then you can add my walkthrough and esper guide for that. Final Fantasy IX I've only played once, maybe twice, but didn't take much in. I'm good at Tetra Master and generally know a couple of good gil/exp tricks but that's about it. |

The staff here kinda hates FFVIII; if you want to make us an FFVIII section it had better be extremely stellar.

Y'know, I kind of wonder if these long-standing jokes and opinions espoused by the staff have artificially limited the lifespan of the site. That's kind of how it started, was a joke about how much we hated FF VIII - it's not even that bad and if I had the time to replay a Final Fantasy game, this or FF IX would probably be it. That said, we don't even have enough support to push through the games we're already trying to add. Most of that is on me, since the most complicated parts fall to me alone, but that certainly doesn't make it any easier to get stuff done for anyone else, either. I really do still have lots of plans for improving the site, but they all start with improving the things we already do well, because I refuse to have this site be built upon a dozen half-done games. I won't close the door on anything, though, if I can even get past what's in front of me. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

During this summer, I have been playing FF2 (the ps version) and to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not saying that it would be easy to add a section on it to CoN, but it would be easier than FF8, since it is shorter and lacking many sidequests. I would totally support a decision to add the game to the website. What I'm trying to say is, there are now nine people who like the game. I'm not technically minded but I am willing to find information regarding the game. -------------------- |

@Rangers: Well, there is at least one thing which let's at least assume the staff or at least some ppl of it really hate/dislike FF VIII.
"An RPG praised for it's complex job class system, Final Fantasy V still has decent characters and a solid storyline to carry it through. And crystals to protect. What would a Final Fantasy game be without it's crystals to protect? Probably something like Final Fantasy VIII, and nobody wants that." http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/ |

However, even more than that, I don't have much time to work on the site these days and neither does what little staff we have left. There's even been talk of simply stopping working on the site entirely and just leaving it exactly as it is from now until I decide to stop paying the bills and it becomes something like what you now find at http://www.ffonline.com/ . I know that not being able to add more content will diminish the life span of the site by some measure, though it may be small. However, I'm just not currently able to make things happen like that, I'm sorry. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |
