I've started recently a challenge I have seen on Game FAQs called the Single Class Challenge, which resembles FFt's SCC greatly.

The point is to advance through the game using only one job. The challenge is usually increased substantially, as you won't have access to what one normally would have.

I started a Knight SCC about a week ago and I'm on the verge of beating it, but I have to go through Neo ExDeath, who's much, much tougher without being able to hit more than one thing at once. I've got all my guys at level 50, and I'll probably attempt it again at level 55 or so.

I recomend this quest to anyone who would like a great challenge and game experience.

Oh, and the toughest are Bard, Thief, and White Mage, for those looking for one of the toughest FF challenges.smile.gif

Seeing as how the stories of FFT and FFV are significantly different, I don't see how this is even possible for FFV. For one, you won't get most classes for awhile. So, technically you can't call it an SCC if you don't use a Job rom the first Tier you receive: Monk, Knight, White Mage, Thief, Black Mage. Your SCC is a bit different since you used a Knight. So, right on for you! thumbup.gif However, for purists, a Bard SCC in FFV would not be possible. pinch.gif

Posted by: Mimic 24th August 2004 13:32
Unless, of course, you do it the way I'm doing it and use the 'All Jobs' code for the ROM. I'm midway through a Mediator game right now, just having kicked some Atomos ass. Also attempting - Geomancers, (Walse) Monks (Magissa) and Solo Samurai (Wind Shrine.) Geomancers are probably the most enjoyable right now.

Posted by: Mellow 24th August 2004 13:38
Ahhh, now doing it that way makes it possible for higher-tier Jobs. wink.gif I, unfortunately, don't have one. thumbdown.gif Anyways, I'm interested to know what happens with your Solo Samurai.

Oh, and one more thing, what's the all-Job code? I might be downloading a ROM soon.

I may post updates for my Solo Samurai. Infact, I will. Here we go...

I'm also attempting a Summoner game, but started at Walse due to lack of offense prior to that point. Just beat Shiva - Fat Chocobo!

As soon as I get my PS2 back, I'm gonna try an all-Monk game. Shouldnt be TOO challenging, and the equipment is easy on the wallet! =happy.gif=

Posted by: Mimic 24th August 2004 19:14
Monks are pretty easy, yeah. Kick handles multiple targets, Buildup gets past Counterattacks... Apart from that, it's just hold down X and run through the game. Fun, though.

Quick Samurai update.

KarlBoss - He 'screwed me, so I threw some money at him.
Siren - Wasted my cash on an easy whore.

Oh, anyone here tryng a Dragoon Knght only game?

Posted by: Mimic 25th August 2004 15:26
I'm thinking of trying Mimic. My only offense would be rod breaking, items and knife attacks. Hmm... There's not really a bright side to that job in an SCC. I guess you could Mimic to conserve elixirs...

Posted by: Stryker 27th August 2004 02:52
I've just started a Time Mage SCC, and will attempt Hunter and Blue Mage too. During the TM SCC, I'm gonna try and not do any rod-breaking, but it's gonna be a pain in the butt until I get Comet.

Posted by: Mimic 27th August 2004 18:38
Fun. Slow works on eveything. Samurai Update -

Magissa/Forza - I knifed her up abit, then gave Forza money to go away.

Posted by: Stryker 27th August 2004 20:56
In regards to the guide on GameFAQs, I don't understand why he shuns items like Thief Knife, Dancing Dirk, etc., but allows rod-breaking. Aren't Black and White Mages good enough to have exclusive access to their respective spells?

Posted by: Mimic 27th August 2004 22:20
They're optional rules, I guess. I usually break rods if I can, and use those Items/Weapons.

Posted by: Stryker 28th August 2004 15:07
Hey, does anyone have any ideas on how I can confuse enemies with Blue Mages so I can learn spells like White Wind and Mighty Guard without the help of a Mediator?

Edit
I just started a solo Dragoon SCC too.

Re-Edit: T_T My Blue Mage file got deleted for no reason.

Posted by: Mu the Squirrel 28th August 2004 15:21
I guess you'd need rod-breaking for those enemies that don't take a great deal o' physical damage? ( Fork Tower too...) Anyway.. I don't think a Blue Mage can confuse at all. We're pre-Bad Breath here.

Posted by: SilverFork 28th August 2004 15:54
I tried a Knight SCC once, but after a long while I eventually broke down and swapped one for a Black Mage.

A few weeks ago I started up a Red Mage SCC (you acquire it early enough for it to count in my opinion). So far I've gotten as far as Valley of Dragons with that party, a point where the difficulty is beginning to show quite a bit of its ugly head.

When I'm done with this I might try my luck at a solo White Mage SCC. Yeah, I'll be playing the same file for years...

Posted by: Mimic 30th August 2004 21:35
Current SCCs (in order of furthest-into-game) Mediator, Hunter, Beserker, White Mage. I'm enjoying them all.

Speaking of my WMs, I'm currently levelling them to around 16-17 before fighting the Horrifying Wingraptor. I figure I can take KarlBoss at about Lv. 22, and Siren at around 27.

(Edit) God, this sucks. I'm doing a Bard SCC, God knows why, and am horribly, horribly stuck. On... *sigh* Ifrit. Draining his MP is no problem, but the fact that Blaze doesn't use MP is. Bard HP sucks, so, I cannot effectively get my stats up with songs, and there's only so much Vital Song can do. Anyone suggest a strategy?

Yet another edit! An important one, too.
I've decided to start a new challenge - The Mini Challenge. This basically involves using a cheat to obtain all spells, then inflicting 'Mini' on my party. For the entire game. It'll be a challenge, I'm sure of that. Though I will have all spells, I will not use them until they would be useable in a normal game. Any job-class can be available, and no magic or ability, is unuseable. Except using Mini on my party. The challenge will begin one the first jobs are obtained. As for the fact that I used the magics cheat and shall not have to buy magic, well, there's nothing I can do about that. Anyone care to suggest some rules?

Posted by: Nykidemus 19th September 2004 19:34
I rememeber when FF1 spawned the "All White Mage" quests. THAT was a pain in the rear. I suppose it would transfer well to FFV. The next step would be to go to the single character quest. I've heard that it is possible to go through the game with nothing except a single WHM... but I dont know if I'm quite bored enough to try it.

Posted by: galt123 21st September 2004 17:55
This is in response to Stryker's post re: blue mage and spells.

I've been trying the various SCC's and the blue mage one makes for a very interesting challenge. I just found out it is possible to obtain all blue spells with the blue mage class alone, assuming the dancing dagger/dirk is allowed to be used. I'll justify that later in this post. Note: lots of spoilers. Be careful reading.

There are a lot of good blue spells that can be learned easily simply ploughing through worlds 1 & 2 - so i'll just list the ones that can be trickier.

Guard off - without a mediator, this one will have to wait until barrier tower in world 2 - ziggurats use it once in a while. Page 256 never seem to use it, either that or they'll moon flute you before anything else.

Fusion - dilures use it if you confuse them with dancing (hence the dancing dagger/dirk), may take a few tries, but oh well... it's not a very useful spell in my opinion anyways.

Blowfish - lamias in the ruins only use it when !Control-ed but bland lamias in the pyramid (world 3) use it if you give it enough time.

White wind - this is why i think a blue mage SCC relies on the dancing dagger/dirk. Number one, blue mage are weaklings physically. Number two, their magic attacks don't really get powerful until they get spells like aero 3. And even when they get aero 3, they still can't get white wind until they get to Exdeath's castle, where they must use the dancing dagger/dirk on an arage and *hope* that it uses white wind *when* it gets confused (Their other abilities are life2 and medicine - same effect as !Pray). If this is not enough of a good challenge i don't know what else would qualify. In other words - blue mages *deserve* a good healing spell. (And no enkidou cannot be confused by
dancing if anybody's wondering)

---Tips on quick defeat of bosses without the aid of white wind until
that point: -- (i'll only list the bosses where you would normally - under a non-SCC circumstance - already have white wind on your side)

archaeoavis - the first 2 casts of aero2 will hit big until his defense changes. Then unfortunately just aero2 away or use '????' if your hp gets low to inflict great damage. BTW, hope you have 4 flame rings equipped since one of his attacks 'flame' will then heal you.

archaeoavis (spoiler: after revival) - i think this is common knowledge but i'll state it here for completeness - L5 Doom/Death.

the 6 bombs (forgot what they were called) - aqua breath/rake twice.

titan - goblin punch, aero2, ????, and elixirs

kimaira brain - death claw

world 2 - abductor - not really a boss

gilgamesh (galuf only battle) - aero2 4 times usually and he escapes (at least for me anyways)

gilgamesh (bridge) - equip 4 mage mashers and hope that he's muted during his power-up speech.

tyrasauras - again probably common knowledge, but feed him a phoenix down.

abductor (again) - again not really a boss

dragon glass/hiryuu plant - 2 ways: one) death claw, two) L4 Gravity 2/ L4 Quarter - note the flowers/bulbs can be easily defeated by aqua breath/rake - they only have 100HP each it seems.

gilgamesh (zeza's fleet) - as tempting as it is don't try to learn white wind here, enkidou just seem to be "unconfusable" - if such a word exists in the english vocabulary. Just grin and bear. This battle is unfortunately gonna be annoying.

atomos - he is level 41 - so dark shock him down to 20. 20 is divisible by 5 - you know what to do.

seal guardians - again hope you have the flame rings equipped. If you do, this will be an easy but still kinda longish battle. Give the top guardian some quick beatings until it starts to fire3 the party. Cool. Free healing. Now just beating on the rest one by one. Don't forget to learn aero3 from the left one before beating it into oblivion.

Exdeath (forest) - i won't include this one as it being 1) a spoiler 2) a potential insult to anybody's intelligence on this forum.

-------

Finally, Big/Mighty Guard:

learn this fighting stingrays in world 3 above where worus/walse tower sank. Dance to confuse it and the only 3 things it seems to do are 1) tidal wave itself (healing it) and 2) attack itself (bummer) and 3) yay - success - big/mighty guard the party.

In conclusion, it is possible to do it only with the blue mage job. Hope this helped and wasn't too long. Now off to the cleft of dimension/n-zone...

Well...I was recently motivated to attempt a SSC challenge of my own. I wanted something challenging but new, so I started the Berserker SCC, using the GS cheat to acquire all the classes before typically possible. I know this SCC is fabled to be impossible but as of now, I am dominating. The bosses up until now were devastating, but I somehow managed to make it through. I beat WingRaptor by sheer luck...my characters would keep attacking him when his wings were closed and he'd counterattack them to death, not to mention I only had a knife and a dagger between the 4 of them, so only two characters could do significant damage. KarlBoss was somewhat easier, but Siren was tough. She killed 3 of my characters and reduced one to 30 HP (out of 210). Luckily I made it through. I am now at the town prior to Worus and I am at level 9. I'll probably suit up all my characters in bronze armor (helm and shield included) before I head to Worus. I'll keep you all updated.

Mimic, I don't know HOW you could possibly've needed to level up to 16 to kill WingRaptor. You have control over all 4 characters. I beat him having no control over any of my characters and with two weapons between them.

Edit
Update: Ok I beat the Worus castle and am now heading to Karnak. I plan to get all the magics in this game, with the exception of blue magic (so summons and black/white/jikuu count....may make omniscient a difficult battle). Well...I went to fight Shiva with my party of four berserkers armed with Mythril Hammers and 450 HP each. I can do approximately 400 damage per hit, assuming the target is in the front row. Well, this makes the Shiva battle frustrating since they like to hit Shiva instead of the soldiers. Granted, they can kill a soldier in two hits, but they never do, and Ice 2 dominates them. Combine bad target selection with the poor accuracy of axes/hammers and you have yourself a problem. No problems aside from that though. Sheer power is amazing.

Around five hours ago, I decided to go ahead and boot up the ZSNES to start my WhiteWiz SCC. I used the code to go ahead and start the first battle off as a WW. It was easy considering the low amount of HP the Goblins had. Venturing through the cave where you get Faris, I found it a bit hard when fighting a Deano; the shell prevents fist damage unless you can manage a critical. Well, luck on my side, I managed quite a few criticals. happy.gif

I traveled off to the Wind Shrine and leveled to 5 before attempting WingRaptor. Surprisingly, I beat him on the first attempt with four punching WWs. I bought Cure, Libra, and Pure in Tule, bought my party some Staves and Leather Helms, and saved for the night. Granted, I haven't been playing five hours straight. On and off for leveling.

I've decided Muddle and Holy are probably my best bet in terms of strategy with this SCC. Muddle will get them confused, dealing damage to each other and whatnot. Holy, when I finally get that almighty spell happy.gif , will be the offensive spell of my party. So, all in all, I'm excited about completing this SCC. Will keep updated. thumbup.gif

To all who are trying the white mage scc, just curious as to how you plan to conquer the towers of power/magic. I figured out how to do the magic one - you cast dispel on omniscient and wall on your party (or equip wall rings - fight enough wall knights in barrier tower to get them) to keep reflecting spells back to him. I suppose you only need one player there to defeat omniscient. So say you'd have 3 players (you and Faris for sure for the most strength) on the right tower with decent staffs. But you'd still don't have magic, and minotarus (whatever his name is) hits hard. Sage staff (legendary weapon) and judgement staff both heal him (as far as i know, correct me if i'm wrong). So i'm just puzzled as to what strategy will work against him. Thanks.

Hey, I didn't NEED to. I just have a bad habit of levelling like crazy. Don't know why. My usual level for beating Wingraptor is around 14-15 anyways. I really should level normally.

You've probably tried this, but have you tried using Elf Cloak for the evasion bonus? That really sounds like a tough one...

Yesterday when I posted I was a bit tired, so I decided to call it a night on FFV. Today, however, I got home and loaded up my WW SCC. I left off at Tule, correct? OK, well, I headed over to Zokk's and acquired the key to the Canal.

I was roughly around level 5 when I went into the Canal. So far, my strat has continued to be staff the enemy and Cure when needed. It applies to Karlabos, too. Alright, well, I decided to float around for a few minutes to try and gain a level or two on the randomly-encountered enemies. I managed to gian one level, so that puts me at 6 when I fought Karlabos. The battle started off kind of slow. I would staff him to death, only healing when needed. It would continue to be like this for quite a while. Finally, one of my members managed to bring him down. Karlabos is in the bag. thumbup.gif

Next, I headed off tot he Ship GraveYard. I encountered three Zombies right off the bat. One Cure-All and a few staffs later, I was heading south to get the Flail in the chest. This is a must-do when attempting an SCC like this, especially early on. It gave me the upperhand in many battle. With Math(Butz) equipped with the Flail, I meandered through the planks and dismembered ship decks. Curing and staffing when needed, I made it to the cabin of the ship where you get the World Map. I saved over at the cabin where you discover Faris is a girl, by the way. On to Siren! She wasn't as tough a boss as I originally perceived her to be for my WWs. It was when she went to Undead form that I had some trouble. She managed an Embrace on Lenna, but a quick single-Cure solved that problem. One more Embrace on her resulted in yet antoher single-Cure. Shortly after, with staves pounding away at her, she changed back into her regular form. The battle continued to be a staff-cure redundancy. Before I killed her, however, she managed Undead form once more. An Embrace, a Cure, and another Embrace later left Faris KO'd for the rest of the battle. Galuf landed the final staffing on her, putting Math up one level and learning Whit.3! I did this at level 6.

So, with two boss battles under my belt, I headed over to the next town. Karlabos and Siren were not so hard for my early WWs. I had around 4010 GP to blow, and blow it I did. I bought Quiet and Safe (Mute and Protes), checked the Weapon Shop, sold the Bronze Shield I found, and bought some Cotton for my party. And with that purchase, I ended my conquest.

Mimic, as you can see, it is possible to defeat all three bosses under level 7. But, if you insist on leveling, go right ahead; no on'es stopping you. More updates to come! thumbup.gif

Mimic, leveling to fiteen or sixteen is...good, but not necessary. By reading these posts, I've decided to start an "SCC" -- as you guys call it -- of my own. Not really sure what Job I'll use, but I have an emulator and not much time on my hands, so I'll want it to be a challenging Job that I can play for a while. Trainer, maybe? Maybe a...Time Mage? Er... wacko.gif I'll figure it out sooner or later.

Posted by: Caesar 23rd September 2004 01:27
I'm beginning to see why the Berkserker SCC will be difficult. I can't heal...at all. Well...not at this point in the game, anyways. I am in Cid's Steam Engine, approzimately level 12. Yes, it's a low level for a SCC, but oh well. I'm not sure how much HP/damage I should have/be doing. Right now, I have about 500 HP for each character and deal ~400 damage per hit, assuming I connect. So, I went to tackle LiquiFlame. Lemme tell ya....not being able to heal when an enemy can dish out 100's on everybody and 200's on single characters is a HUGE disadvantage. I relied on sheer strength to take him down. No, I haven't beaten him yet, but I beat him within 200 HP of his life, according to my calculations (you figure ~850 damage per turn...I got two full turns in with all 4 characters and then several afterwards with less than four). Random encounters are a joke, though. Bosses are the only difficult thing, of course. I'll keep you posted.

Posted by: Endless Knight 23rd September 2004 11:29
I'm guessing that a Berserker group will have to have reflect items for the Tower of Magic. Thanks for the info all!

Correction...Berserkers + LiquiFlame + No fire protection + Low weapon accuracy - High weapon damage = VERY difficult. I plan to gain a few levels and try him again. By then I should have ~700 HP apiece and do approx. 500 damage per hit. Updates to come later.

Bit of an update on the WhiteWiz SCC: stuck. I cruised on over to the North Mountain, encountering little resistance on the way. As soon as I got in the mountain however, i realised my problem: Gala Cats. Cat Kick was setting me back about 70 HP each attack, a devastating amount to a 150-HP party. With many Cures, though, I managed to fend off the vile creatures. Now, I had went directly down to get the FenixDown when the Gala Cats were popping up. When I got to the entrance again, two thoughts corssed my mind: go back and level? and go ahead and wing it up there? I chose option B. What an effin mistake. dry.gif

I make it up to top tier of North Mountain. The Poison didn't throw me off too bad because I had four White Wizards that knew Pure. When I got to the save point, I layed down a tent and rested. Feeling confident that my party of level nine Wizards could defeat Magisa and her faithful friend, Forza, I decided to plunge into the battle. I checked her with Libra, first. Six-hundred HP didn't seem too bad. Well, at about ~400 HP, she decides to summon Forza. sad.gif With a few Tackles, some regular attacks, and Magisa's random Bolt attacks, my party was "Annihilated..." Sucks, yes. With one tent left, I think I'll try and level to 11 around the save area, or as far as I can go before losing all of my MP. I'll edit this post when I defeat Magisa, so if anyone posts after this one, don't be expecting a brand new post. smile.gif

You've probably tried this, but have you tried using Elf Cloak for the evasion bonus?

You know the Elf Cloak/Cape is a great idea. Thanks. I'd better go in with at least 30 elixirs. I am actually just thinking ahead. My white mage SCC is actually only at the flying lonka/ronka ruins. Let me tell ya, it's the toughest challenge i've ever tried. Here's my experience:

Ifrit - used up all his MP by charm - he kept healing himself with fire3 until his MP is gone. Then slowly and painfully i beat him with flails, which have a very high miss rate. Eventually he came on my side and opened up the way to....

Byblos - most annoying battle ever. Never realized how mean this boss can be. If you let him. 'Thread' slows you down, 'MgcHammer' halves your MP, 'wind slash' takes about 1/5 of max HP (i think), 'sonic wave' renders my characters useless, charm is a pain in the rear, plus his high evasion rate combined with my poor accuracy with flails is just a disaster. I must've used up 20 elixirs fighting the battle. Here's the pattern i found with this guy if anyone's interested. If you hit him, he counters with Armor/Safe if his HP is > 700 (i think), if not he counters with Drain, sucking HP from one of the characters and claiming it for his own. So i had no choice but to persevere until his MP is used up. Then, after about 2 hours, his MP is finally gone, so Charm, Armor/Safe, Drain, MgcHammer are disabled, but wind slash is still usable, and by that time my characters have all been Sonic Wave'd to single digit levels, so my attacks only take out <20 HP each. Took another 1/2 hour to beat him to the ground.

Sandworm - not too hard, i think he does not have an evasion rate, so all the misses are from using flails. He did get a couple of Demi/Gravity's in though. Ouch.

Cray Claw - just another pain in the rear. Not too tough though. Wish i could;ve broken a thunder rod or two...

Adamantimi/Adamantaimai/whatever that silly turtle-looking thing is called - attack and heal, took a while, nuff said.

Sol Cannon (not the little ones, the big mean guy in the centre of the ruins) - i didn't destroy the side launchers in time before the first surge beam. Luckily no one died from it. One of them is gone by then with my flail attacks. The other one didn't get destroyed until after the second surge beam. After that it's just attack and heal. I didn't keep count but the sol cannon must have fired at least 15 times before it itself went up into flames.

---------- That's all folks... now i'm back at the ship's graveyard to level up some more and get back my 99 elixirs. I'll need them in world 2. Guaranteed. (BTW i haven't even gone into the ruins yet.

Also - any white SCCers out there have given thought as to how to defeat mellusion/merugene/the barrier changing spirit who
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
possessed Lenna/Reina in world 3?
That's yet another big obstable before the fork tower. I think i recall one of her forms is weak against physical attacks. So i guess just pound away and heal then, right? Flame rings here for sure... thanks-galt123

Edit: just learned how to do a spoiler tag. Sorry about that.

W00t! Finally beat both Shiva AND LiquiFlame with my team of Berserkers. Shiva was pitifully easy with my four level 20 characters, all with 750 HP and dealing around 500 per hit. I made it out with 400 HP on all.

LiquiFlame, however, was a different story. After 3 failed attempts (never hit the body flame or the hand flame...the whirlwind is the best to hit since he just heals himself after you hit him), I managed to get him. How? Well, Butz was doing 600 per hit (assuming he connects), Galuf was close behind with 500 per hit, and the other two were dealing a measely 300-400 per hit. Once he got into whirlwind flame phase, he was done for. I did easily 2500 damage to him in that phase alone, with him healing maybe 750 of it back. From then one, it was just all-out offense. Hit and get hit basically. I managed to kill him finally with 2 characters alive with under 100 HP. Tough win, I'd say. I can't say I'm looking forward to fighting Byblos... sleep.gif

Edit
Edit: Hahaha I am amazing. I just defeated both Ifrit and Byblos. Ifrit was a piece of cake...with 4 characters doing 400's and taking only about 1/5 of their max HP for each of his hits, it didn't take long. Byblos on the other hand....whomped me on my first attempt. Gale Cut (I think that's the name) dominated me, as did Drain. I loath that spell now. Second time through, though, was a cinch. He used magic hammer 3 turns in a row, so I didn't have much MP left (oh no...whatever shall I do), but he did hardly any damage. That is, until he used Gale Cut three times and two drains. He killed two characters, but I got him with the remaining two. I must say, I am very proud of myself. I never pictured myself killing him.

Stats (these apply for all 4 characters):
Level 21
Max HP ~830
Damage dealt ~600

Equipment (also for all 4):
Mythril Hammer
Mythril Shield
Mythril/FeatherHat
Mythril Amor
Mythril Gauntlet

Needless to say, Mythril saved me. I am beginning to tire of the low accuracy of axes, but I'm sure this will get better as I find better axes.

Well, good luck with the nightmareish Sandworm.

Posted by: The Celestial 25th September 2004 02:24
...well, after seeing y'all start SCCs of your own, I decided to jump in. I didn't want to make my first one too hard, so I went with Ninjas. So far, I've reached Worus, and have suffered only two losses - one against Siren which was incredibly close, and one against Shiva which was an absolute blowout. All the other bosses got flipped out upon. At the moment I'm doing about 120 per character per turn, HP is about 150, and level is 8 for all.

More to come!

This is impossible. I suppose I forgot what Sandworm actually was before I fought it. There is a 0% chance of me winning. I don't understand this...I have a 1/3 chance to hit him, and my characters deal ~400 to him when they connect. So after 8 hits, he should die. This means that after 6 turns of all 4 of my characters staying alive, he should die. Well, that's wrong. The most damage I could do to him was 800...two hits. That makes no sense. I have come to another conclusion as well. Each enemy has built-in attack patterns (hold on let me explain). I noticed this with Shiva. I used savestates outsides battles to speed things up, but never IN a battle. So anyways, I'd lod a savestate from just in front of Shiva and then enter the battle. After losing 3 times, I noticed that she and the soldiers targetted the exact same person each time through, meaning I could never win. So with Sandworm, I'd load the same savestate and watch Galuf take 4 demis each time through. My characters also hit the same holes each time. I started to exit and enter the Desert several times, since this seemed to load a different pattern, and noticed another thing. There were like 4 different patterns he would use. It got to the point where I could tell who was going to die and in what order just be watching what holes he began in at the beginning. So yea, I have no chance of winning unless I can somehow deal 1500 damage per hit and hope to load the one pattern where my characters hit him twice. Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit
New find: Holes don't like being Muted. I went out and bought 4 Mage Mashers (thinking ahead for fork tower...Omniscient CAN be muted, right?) and tried Sandworm again. First swing, connected with a Hole and cast Mute on it. Result: It used Demi TWICE on me. This battle didn't last long. I see two options: Hacking or SERIOUS power-leveling. I'll level up a bit and try him again, since I don't went to cheat.

Your options are painfully limited. There's nothing new you can get that would boost your chances here, so power-leveling is the ticket.

On your 'fixed' pattern: like with all games like this, the attacks are selected randomly. A game uses an RNG for this; think of it as a software dice. You read the Slot Guide, I'm sure, where is explained which attacks affect the RNG. Not only Slot feeds off this things, Ragnarok does it,...hell, every non-50 % chance attack that uses a random factor uses it.

And those 50 % thingies such as Possess and Sniper probably do it as well happy.gif

ANYWAY, back to the topic. FF V uses an RNG too, and whatever is random; targetting, damage randomization, you name it, it feeds off the RNG and it will be the same unless you affect the RNG. There's a great many actions that will do this. With Berserkers you can't really do anything but run, but even when you fail to (it's a boss battle), it affects the RNG and it worth a shot. Vary the length of your effort to affect the RNG in different ways.

I decided to get a little further in my white SCC. Well further it i did, just beat the seal guardians in the mua/moore forest. It's quite interesting with an SCC. You can sometimes predict the difficulty of bosses before going in. But then, sometimes it just catches you by surprise. Here goes:

Archaeoavis - slapped on some flame rings, and just attacked and healed when needed to. Slow effort. He managed to poison a couple of characters and use thunder (which the flame ring is not protecting against - but i really need to be thankful that this boss has no water-based attacks, recalling that the flame ring *causes* a weakness to water). Nothing that a handful of antidotes and cure2's can't do. Armor/Safe-ing the party at the start of the battle really helped.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Archaeoavis's 2nd form (after revival) - the armor/safe from before still active, i used the same methods. Flailing away and healing. The flail really sucks in terms of hit rate. I was looking forward to fighting metamorpha's in world 2 to get some light/lumino staffs.

The 6 bombs (one day i'll remember what they're called...) - i tried to take off a little HP from each one so they don't explode with the full 1500 HP damage, but a few of them still managed to hurt me bad. Good thing they didn't all explode at once. Cure2 saved me.

Titan - armor/safe-ed the party at the start of the battle. He got 2 earth shakers in and that was it. I expected him to be harder but i'm definitely not complaining...

Kimaira/Chim Brain - as easy as titan was. I had flame rings on so his blaze attack didn't hurt me at all.

Abductor - i decided to let him waste me. Didn't need that ether. Waste of time otherwise.

Gilgamesh (in dungeon) - armor/safe-ed and hit him about 10 times before he left me alone.

Gilgamesh (on big bridge) - i decided to use one person to mute him every turn. But he didn't stayed muted. He wasn't too tough here anyways, just annoying.

Tyrasaurus - i usually give him a phoenix down to go away, but with white mages i decided to have a little fun. Used Arise/Life - took 2 tries but got him just the same.

Abductor (again) - didn't do anything special, just pounded away at him with flails. He didn't last long.

Dragon Grass/Hiryuu Plant - i knew this battle was gonna be annoying/long, but little do i know beforehand that it could be tough too if you don't know how to withstand the pollen attacks from the Dragon Weed/Bulb/Flowers. Each of them (as most of you know) inflicts a different status ailment to you (darkness, charm, poison, old, paralysis). So by the time all 5 of them were done, i felt like i was covered in flies. It takes me so much time to recover from them that i had no time to attack the actual plant.... that is... until i realized what i could do. I restarted the battle and the first thing i did was to "Image" everybody. The white image spell can evade 2 hits (versus the mirage vest which is only good for one). So in between i had enough time to hack away at the plant. The rest of the battle was just attack, re-image, attack, re-image, until the central plant is dead. The flowers were a piece of cake afterwards when they've lost the ability to regenerate themselves.

Gilgamesh & enkidou (zeza's fleet) - i guess i was lucky. I thought i had to drain enkidou of his MP. But he didn't white wind his party until he only had about 200 HP left, which brought it back to 400. 3 more flail hits later he was history. Gilgamesh was useless after enkidou was gone.

Barrier tower, Atomos - i figured here i don't have the steal ability, nor will i even be able to wield the thief knive, that i will have to earn myself at least 2 wall rings here (there are 2 more at the waterfalls in world 3) from the wall knights. That took like 15+ battles. Then for atomos thank goodness for 'Shell'/'Protect'. I shelled the party at the beginning of the battle, and comet did half the damage it usually inflicts. So 3 guys attacking and 1 (Lenna/Reina) healing. Probably 100 turns later he was history. Can't believe i was still using flails.

sunken
cave of guido/ghido/whatever translation was given to the 700-year-old sage - the first time i entered i ran from everything. Figuring there was no point with no strong weapon at all. Then after shopping at moore/mua village and then going through the first half of the moore/mua forest to get the much stronger 'morning star' (which i think is slightly more accurate too) i re-entered the cave to fight metamorphas. I had flame rings to absorb most of everything, except for the breath wing attacks which took out 1/4 of max HP from each player. Bummer. Anyway took about 20 odd battles to win me 4 lumino staffs. They don't have as high an attack power as the morning star, and you have to put people in the front row for the same amount of damage, but at least they are as accurate as most knives. I still don't know whether i'll be fighting the tower of power boss (minotaurus) with which weapon yet.

Seal guardians - again the same strategy as the blue SCC (ie equip flame rings and beat on the top guardian until it starts to use fire3 - which heals the party), but little do i know that the light/lumino staffs don't damage the guardians at all. (Which makes me wonder if they will damage minotaurus). So i had to switch back to 3 flails and 1 morning star mid-battle. Oh well. Long but easy battle.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Exdeath @ forest - before the seal guardian battle was over i made sure that Galuf had the morning star. So this battle was just plaining attack, attack, attack, and it actually didn't take that long for the in-battle dialog sequence to start

--- And that's it for the day. More levelling before heading into the final dungeon of world 2 .... *drumroll* .... exdeath castle.

Omniscient CAN be muted, right?

Yes, but the mage masher does not always cast mute. I actually tried to beat omniscient using 2 mage mashers before. The result was reset, reset, reset... (or return, return, return - depending on which translation you've got). Believe me, even if you manage to mute him, he doesn't seem to stay muted for long.

I've got a question for you, since the beserker class can only use 2 of the legendary weapons (namely the rune axe and the assasin dagger), why do you need to get past the fork tower? The beserker class can't use

Holy or Flare or Meteo, or Riviathan/Leviathan for that matter
anyway.

As an aside note i'd like to applaud your efforts in trying a said-to-be-impossible SCC. I mean i thought my white SCC is hard... at least i have control of my characters (albeit very weak)... Way to go, Caesar :)

Posted by: Caesar 26th September 2004 02:03
Thank you, galt123. I also am surprised at how well you are doing with your White Mage SCC. I'd say that Bersker and White Mage SCC would be the hardest....save for the Dancer, Bard, and Mimic, of course.

In addition to using ONLY the Bersker (I will refer to the Berserkers by Berskers since it's shorter and sounds cooler) in my run-through, I plan to get every magic spell, with the exception of Blue Magic (for obvious reasons). This means defeating every summon monster, as well as beating the Fork Tower. Although this is a long ways from where I am now, it never hurts to start planning early. I'm sure one or two Berskers can take Minotaur with NO problem at all, but as for Omniscient, I plan to equip ALL of the remaining Berskers in my party with Mage Mashers (I have 4 in my inventory) and let them loose. I would look up the exact chance they have to cast mute in the ROM, but I'm lazy. For me, it's around every third time. So...I take three Berskers up to fight him, and then go crazy. Since they naturally have insane attack power, they will do decent damage even though the Mage Masher only has 28 attack power (I think).

So to answer your question, I wouldn't feel like I truly "completed" the SCC if I skipped any steps, such as getting Meteo, Flare, Holy, Levia, Shiva, Omega, etc.

Btw, do I have to use spoiler tags in this topic. I sort of thought it was understood that there would be information about the game released in this thread, so I never used them. All of my posts would have to be completely enclosed in a spoiler tag because I suppose some of the bosses in the game would count as spoilers.

Edit
Argh! I almost beat him! I hit him 9 times this time, but for some reason I do less damage than before. So anyways, 9 x 300 = not enough. So close...I don't understand how it calculates damage. I can do 700 on a normal enemy in the back row using the Mage Masher, yet I do 300 on SandWorm in the front row with an Ogre Axe. Hmm...well more leveling I guess and then I'll attempt him again. SandWorm is officialyl my LEAST favorite boss in the game...even moreso than Byblos.

Just to give you a glimpse of what a Demi-counterattack can do to a team of Berskers, I'll tell you about a recent battle. I missed SandWorm so frequently that the first QuickSand he used for that battle annihilated my entire party. Also keep in mind that every member of my party has ~1100 HP and that QS does 60 damage tops. Yes...it's that bad.

Posted by: MathNo.2 26th September 2004 02:49
I happen to already have a Bard SCC going, so I'll load up that save file tonight and play away on it. As for my WW SCC: I'm still leveling around the Save Point. Look for this post to be edited by tonight.

Is there a way to get the mimic summon using berserkers? Do you have to paralyze them or some give them another ailment, so that they cannot attack? If so, how do you get to Mimic without dying from foes on the way? Running? Just curious. Have fun Caesar! I hope you soon manage to bloody Sandworm beyond recognition. thumbup.gif

I'm unaware of a Mimic summon, so I'm going to assume you mean the Mimic class. happy.gif IIRC,

Gogo attacks with magic if you hit him, and as far as I know, he can be muted, so I'll rely of my trusty Mage Masher to do some serious damage. He can be killed normally, I think. If not, well, I already have the Mimic class from the Game Genie code I entered to get Bersker at the beginning of the game.

As for being killed on the way there, I don't think that's a problem. My team is basically immortal in random encounter battles. I fought three battles of two corvettes each, without healing in between, without losing a single party member.

Edit
Update: The SandWorm is no more. I won't give a play-by-play because I don't remember it and it would bore all of you. Basically, I got lucky. Bartz connected everytime he swung, which was a HUGE help. Only he and Faris lived, though. Not too much power-leveling was needed yesterday...I am now at level 27. That's all for now.

Gogo is supposed to counter physical attacks with his magic and have infinite HP from what I've read. Maybe the FAQs are wrong, but from what I remember this was the case for me.

Congrats on killing the Sandworm! thumbup.gif

According to the enemy list here at CoN,

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Gogo has 47714 HP and is weak vs. water. I assume he can be killed, but I have never tried. Unfortunately, the Bersker cannot equip any water elemental weapons, so the battle may be longer than expected.

Also, it would seem that the Bersker can equip 3 of the legendary weapons: Rune Axe, Assassin Dagger, and Sasuke Katana/Knife.

Edit
Killed Adamant T with no problems at all. Bartz took 4 criticals, but that's all. Next, I destroyed the Missile/Flame Cannons outside the ruins...no problem at all there, either. However, Sol Cannon is proving to be difficult. He usually only gets off two missiles before the back target is destroyed, and I can usually deal what is estimated to be around 4.5k damage to him before his Surge beam connects. After that, I am usually left with two members and chip off about another 2k before he Surge beams them as well.

A note about Surge Beam- After checking all the FAQs and noticing that they all say it does around 300 damage to everybody, I have come to a conclusion. Surge Beam does 50% of your max HP. It does ~600 damage to me and i have ~1200 for each character. I doutb anybody would have that amount of HP at this point, which would explain why the FAQs say it does 300 damage.

The above theory is correct. I justgained a few levels and fought him again and it did 750 damage to my entire party. I'm not sure if he is possible anymore. I have to do 23000 damage before he attacks twice.

Posted by: The Celestial 26th September 2004 20:54
OK, I'm in Karnak about to dive into the ship to face LiquiFlame. My party's at L13, with ~350 HP apiece, and 300-400 damage per character-turn.

Galura was a bit harder than expected. I thought I could just Image my way through, but he's got this nasty habit of attacking four times in a row. Eventually I defeated him at L10, and then took another shot at Shiva. Dead again. So I went to Karnak to equip myself with mythril daggers and silver armor. Then I went back and dominated Shiva at L12. Well, dominated may be a strong word for it - Bartz died, and everyone else was reduced to about 1/3 HP. Still, a win's a win.

Posted by: galt123 27th September 2004 03:45
Itching for the ultimate white spell, i fired up my white SCC again and progressed along. So here's another update -

Exdeath Castle - the hardest fight i got into was with two yellow dragons. Thunder takes out 1/4 of my max MP regardless whether shell/protect is active or not. So lots of cure3's. Otherwise not too hard. Good news for anyone doing this SCC. Exdeath is vulnerable, for some reason, to the lumino/light staff (that you get from fighting metamorphas). It does even more damage to him than the morning star (which is actually higher in attack power). He managed to L3 Flare me once. Ouch. Otherwise he was easier than i thought. I didn't bother casting safe/armor or shell/protect - he casts dispel often.

Antlion - Nothing special. Good thing his sonic wave attacks weren't frequent and didn't succeed much. After about 15 lumino staff hits, he left me.

Gargoyles - as most of you know, if one gargoyle is destroyed while the other one is still alive, it will revive very quickly with full HP. However, does anybody know that gargoyles can cast fusion (especially when their HP gets low)? So i thought i had to drain their MP as well - until i decided to try something - the "Bersk" spell (berserk) and it worked on both of them. Sure they do more damage after that but at least now i can get both their HP's low enough that 2 or 3 consecutive attacks can take them out simultaneously without them reviving each other. BTW, if anyone is wondering, the light/lumino staff heals them.

Pyramid - thank goodness most monsters are undead here (so cure2 and cure3 came in very handy). The only annoying part were the machine heads - their "surge beam" takes out 1/2 of your max HP and causes an HP leak (just like the sol cannon in world one). Normally they'd be dead before they fire, but not with white mages. Precisely why white mages have cure3...

Megurene/Mellusion (at the elder tree) - she was not as hard as i thought she'd be. All of her forms are surprisingly vulnerable to the morning star (but not the light/lumino staff). One of her forms can actually be damaged by flails as well. So it was just a long battle, that was it. Needless to say i shelled/protected and armor/safe-ed everybody.

Kuzar Castle - ran into a shield dragon once. Sheer luck. I ran away after about 30 odd turns with confused people and stuff. Got the sage staff, and two other randomly chosen weapons. Doesn't matter anyway. My white mage party can't wield any other legendary weapons.

Solitary Temple and Stoker/Stalker - Once again, L3 flare problems. I got lucky it wasn't used often. Let me warn anybody who wants to try this that L4 Quarter/Gravity2 and L5 Doom/Death seem to be the preferred spells. Make sure nobody's level is divisible by 4 or 5 and you'll be fine. Turns out that the sage staff and the new morning stars i bought at mirage actually made my group of white mage into somewhat decent fighters - ha ha. Stoker was not a problem. It was just a shell/protect and then guess-a-target-and-hit game (albeit long and dreaded, of course).

Now... the moment that i (and maybe some of you too) have been waiting for...

The fork tower.

Right tower - i sent 3 players up with the sage staff and 2 morning stars. That made minotaurus a relatively *easy* battle - believe it or not. The sage staff actually took about 1000 HP each hit and he only has 20,000. Nothing that a couple of elixirs can't fix. Thanks to Endless Knight for the Elf Cloak/Cape tip. I actually evaded a few of his critical attacks that way.

Left tower - taking 3 players up the right tower was my mistake. Lenna/Reina alone faced omniscient. She has a wall/reflect ring on. I had her cast dispel on omniscient to negate his regen and shell/protect. Then i kept casting wall/reflect on Lenna/Reina, bouncing off her to put a wall on omniscient. Cure, Regen, Haste/Fast and the like are reflected back to me when omniscient tried to benefit himself. This is all well until he decided to 1) cast "Drain" - which is non-reflectable and brings back good ol' memories of Byblos, and 2) keep casting status spells that don't do damage, like venom, slow, and the like. Finally he casted a couple of bios - the most damage that's reflected back to him (about 800 HP), and which also causes a temporary HP leak. When his HP finally got low (and this took probably about 200 turns), he started casting Ice3 which furthered his damage, to which he pretty much committed suicide, with his last ditch effort Flare also reflected back to him.

And that was it. Now i'm the proud owner of the ultimate white spell :) - done only with a bunch of weak white mages without even an offence-based spell. Thanks to everybody who gave me tips and encouragement. :)

Posted by: The Celestial 27th September 2004 04:43
Current Level: 17
HP: 450 (Reina) - 472 (Galuf)
Damage dealt/turn: 400 (Reina/Galuf), 500 (Faris/Bartz), 700 (anyone throwing Mythril Swords)
Clear through: Byblos

My strategy for LiquiFlame, Ifrit, and Byblos was pretty much the same - throw stuff at them. This worked very well with the first two, but Byblos' Drain and Wind Slash gave me problems. I lost a few times to him before getting a lucky run of no counters. Didn't last very long, but it was enough to have my Ninjas stab him to death after RUNNING OUT of throwing objects.

So, now I'm running around Ramuh's forest trying to get enough GP to buy the Rings. I'll try to defeat him, too, but I'm not strong enough yet.

Posted by: Caesar 27th September 2004 20:17
A good place to fight around is the grassy area by Istory. Not in the forest, in the grass. You often fight Dark Flames and Stone Golems, which both give you a decent amount of HP and gold.

Ok here's the scoop: I have dubbed Sol Cannon impossible to defeat with the Berserkers. I have been powerlevelling for awhile (hence the lack of updates), and am now at level 40. I am grossly overpowered now, but I still can't beat him. His Surge Beam now does over 1000 damage to everybody, plus HP leak. I can kill the launcher in two hits (I can do well over 1000 per hit now), so I am usually left with 3 characters to fight the Cannon itself. I'm thinking of unequipping myself of ALL equipment that doesn't add to strength sicne defense, magic power, magic defense, etc. isn't important for this battle and equipment weight (speed) is. Still...managing to get 23,000 damage in there before two Surge Beams seems impossible. You think...24 hits should do it. That's 12 hits between each beam, which is 4 full rounds of 3 characters attacking. There isn't that much time before shots. Plus, that's assuming I connect with over 1000 per swing, and the low accuracy of axes, I doubt it's possible. If my strategy doesn't work, I will have to switch classes for this one battle, just to retain SOME difficulty for later battles (having 4 level 99 Berserkers in the Lonka Ruins wouldn't be fun at all).

Edit
I am a FFV god! I unequipped my characters of everything except an Ogre Axe on each, giving them 0 equipment weight. I went into battle, unsure of how it would work. I immediately noticed a difference. The launchers took a beating right from the start, but not before they hit two of my members with a missile. I continued on. 4 rounds later, the Surge Beam was fired, claiming two of my members. I figured it was over at this point, but I continued anyways. Galuf and Bartz took turns pounding on the cannon, hitting consistantly for 1200 damage. The message which stated he had 128% energy appeared, and I knew it was over. However, Galuf landed a 1300 and Bartz landed a MASSIVE 1700 on the cannon, killing it once and for all. Whew...I deserve an award for that. happy.gif

And so my game continues:

Lonka Ruins were a piece of cake, and ArcheoAvis gave me no problem at all.

Puroboros: Ahhh now my third least favorite boss. Stupid Arise brings back the other dead Puroboros, so I had to kill them all until they ALL ran out of MP. That was a load of fun, but I eventually did it, after taking countless Exploders. Thank you, 2500 HP!

Titan: Pathetic. Lasted one round and did 400 damage with Earth Shaker.

Chimera Brain: Also pathetic...used Blaze once, but that was all.

Abductor: Two swings ended him...no biggy.

Gilgamesh (dungeon and bridge): Both were pitifully easy. My Berserkers do 1000 damage per hit, garunteed, which makes 4000 a turn almost unfair.

Okay, my new favorite weapon in the entire game is the Dancing Dirk. My Berserker can do 5500 (and does quite often) damage with Sword Dance, to a target in the back row. That is a disgusting amount of damage. I'm going to solo Minotaur with that character, I think.

Hiryuusou (I think this was the next boss): With a team comprised of ONLY characters who target who they want, I thought this would be a looooong battle. I landed a few hits on Hiryuusou with my Warhammers, but mostly I hit the little plants. That is, until the Dancing Dirk showed its true power. Two turns in a row, I landed two Sword Dances on the Hiryuusou, dealing 5500 each. Needless to say, that was enough to end the battle.

With the acquisition of 'holy' - my white SCC got much simpler. So i thought i'd might as well finish it. I'll just list out the highlights (for the rest of them - just imagine 4 white mages 'holying' away :) -

Third tablet was the easiest. I thought for sure i had to heal from a couple of delta attacks. Holy defeated those 3 undead swines so quickly they had no time to revive each other.

Fourth tablet was just as easy. Had me some coral rings. So leviathan was a piece of cake. (It was Caesar that inspired me to get the remaining tablets and summons even though i don't benefit from them being white mages. Thanks for your suggestion, Caesar. I'm quite enjoying the challenge :)

Odin - he is healed by holy. So i got my

magic lamp recharged
. Bahamut - ~6000HP, Leviathan/Riviathan ~4000HP, Odin himself: no effect + waste of 3 secs :( - otherwise it would've been neat to see odin fighting himself, but anyways... , Syldra/Hydra ~ 4500HP, then i switched to morning star attacks. 7 secs left. A *really* close one. And he went down...

Bahamut - managed to mega flare me once, that was it. I had running/winged shoes on. I was too quick for him.

Necrofobia - i got lucky. Put 4 wall rings on, and casted holy against my party members. Each time it reflected off to a barrier. So the barriers died within 2 rounds. Necrofobia himself was so weak to sacred power that he took 9999 from each of my "holy"'s - needless to say he didn't last long.

Exdeath/Neo-ex - guess it was luck, he didn't white hole me at all, or delta attack for that matter. His

tree form
took about 8 holies and he morphed. Then i just had to make sure that his back target doesn't get left alive too long by itself (otherwise it casts meteo constantly). He grand crossed me once and charmed one player, zombified another, hurricaned another - that was it. Grand Cross is very easy to recover from with a team of white mages. I was hoping for a somewhat difficult challenge, so that was kinda disappointing. Oh well. No big deal. Maybe one day if i feel really brave i'll try omega or shinryuu. From what i heard Omega can be berserked if i put a wall/reflect on myself and casted bersk against the walled member. So we'll see.

Once again thanks to everybody who helped especially Endless Knight and of course Caesar - you're the man :). Congrats on beating every boss between the sol cannon and the hiryuusol/plant - very well done. My hat's off to you. :) -galt123

No prob. It just didn't seem quite right to consider the game beaten if you don't get everything you possibly can with that character (this, of course, means missing out on some stealable items until you acquire the thief knife).

Once I finish playing some other games, I might just start up an SCC of my own. (Time allowing.)

Okay I am finally in the third world now! Not much left to do now. Well...I'm not going to summarize every boss since my strategy is basically the same with all of them: Equip 3 Berserkers with strong weapons that the boss isn't immune to, and the fourth with the Dancing Dirk. Actually...funny story: I was fighting Atomos at Ex-Death's tower, and he couldn't manage to kill one of my party members. Faris took 4 Comets, and the rest took 2 or 3 each. Meanwhile I was pounding the heck out of him. He finally managed to kill Faris but I killed him the turn after. Haha...pathetic.

Ok so anyways, I finished the second world with some minor difficulties on Ex-death himself, but that's all. Went to the third world, got my Earth Hammer in the Pyramid, and then beat it. I have never realized how much that weapon rocks! Here's the scoop...the Axe class has very low accuracy. When you miss with the Earth Hammer, it uses Earth Shaker on the entire enemy party. This does around 4k when I use it, and my normal attack does like 1700. This means that you basically cast Titan every other round at no expense to your MP. Not bad at all. After getting Lenna back, I went to Kuzar Castle to get my Assassin Dagger and Rune Axe. However, I overlooked a slight problem: Berserkers can't run for the life of them...literally. So, of course, I fight an Ex-death Soul and get absolutely WHOMPED. So I, being the genious I am, equip one character with the best weapon I have that isn't the Dancing Dirk (Air Lancet, maybe?), the Bone Mail, and the Thornlet. Since Ex-death's Soul uses basically all insta-kill attacks, and since I am undead, I am fully healed. This basically negates the Thornlet's effect, giving me a huge defense bonus only. SO after a long battle, I finally claimed victory, and got my Axe and Dagger. I picked up Sasuke's Katana too since it says here (I believe) that Berserkers can equip it. Well...guess what. They can't. Fantastic.

Lastly, I stopped by Mirage Village to pick up my Thief Knife and the final magics I needed. While I was there, I grabbed three more Earth Hammers...you know...just to keep the business alive. I can't wait to get my Brave Blade. I haven't ran once this entire game. That's gonna be MASSIVE.

Well, I'm going to form a "to-do" list here for organizational purposes only:

+Obtain Odin (I beat him with 31 seconds left AND got the protect ring from him!)
+++Obtain three other tablets, and 9 other Legendary Weapons
+Obtain Flare and Holy
+Whomp Bahamut (Thank you, WallKnight for your 4 Wall Rings. I took 300 HP of damage the entire battle, and then he ended himself with Megaflare)
+Get Syldra
+Brave Blade!
+Obtain Phoenix (gahhh...had to fight Sol Cannon again, darn it)
+Mirage Vest?
+N-Zone
_Omega
_Shinryuu

Yes, I AM going to attempt Omega and Shinryuu. I doubt I'll beat either of them, but it's worth a try, at least, isn't it? Btw, what good items can I steal now, since I have the Thief Knife finally?

I will probably not post update after update anymore...I'll just keep editing this post. That is, at least until I get into the N-Zone where some real exciting strats evolve.

Okay since most of you were most likely curious, I'll tell you how I beat the Fork Tower. Now, I split my group 3:1, with the 1 being Bartz, who went to kill Minotaur. I'll start with him. I made it up the entire tower without fighting a single battle. I then prepared to kill Minotaur, with my Rune Axe, Bone Mail, and Protect Ring equipped. He hit me once, dealing ~300 damage of my 2800 max HP. I hit him so many times before he hit me next I lost count....I ran out of MP for criticals before he landed a hit. Thank you, Ice Shield. Anyways, he eventually got better and he hit me three times in a row, but I killed him soon afterwards. Now for the other party:

I had all three characters wearing Wall Rings and their strongets weapons while going up the tower. I fought 4 battles, none of which were too bad, except this one craaaaazy one. Okay this battle had one of those hunched over bettle-like mages that uses meteo, a Tiny Mage, and a Flare....FlareMage? I forgot the name. Anyways, they tried to hit me with some spell, but I reflected it back at 'em. I hit a few of them a few times, and then something very strange happened. One of the enemies just started hitting consistant 9999's on me. I was in fast-forward mode, but I brought it to normal speed after I saw a bunch of 9's and my team being killed off. I stopped just in time to see the last 9999 hit Lenna. What's up with that?! Anyways, I finally made it up the tower, and, armed with three Mage Mashers, Wall Rings across the board, and some various shields, I prepared to fight Omniscient. I must say, he is one annoying boss. It was hard enough getting my original hit to cast Mute on him, but having them consistantly cast Mute every third or fourth hit is ridiculous. It took me....probably near 100 tries (these include the "Return"s) before I finally killed him. Even though I did nothing except chill on the Fast Forward key, it was an exhausting battle. I now have every magic except Leviathan and Meteo. Oh yea, plus the songs, but I think I missed a few painos....oh well.

[EDIT]Just a quick shortcut for anybody attempting a SCC...the seal guardians in Mua Forest are susceptable to instant kill attacks. Not many are open at that point, but Death Potion would work, as would the Doom Scythes that Berserkers get. Makes the battle quite easier.[EDIT]

That's great news galt!  What was your most memorable part of the journey?

Memorable? Good or bad? If you ask bad i'll have to say Byblos. A boss that uses sonic wave + drain + wind slash on a couple of offenseless white mages = not nice at all. Apanda/Apprehender is different. Cause i had 'holy' :). Anyways, the "best" memory would probably be the time when i figured out how to beat the dragon grass/hiryuusol/plant things. 'Image' rules :)

I just started a chemist SCC. This one will be interesting because potions and hipotions will be doubled in power in battles, and i can use a lot of !Comibine/!Mix-ed items. Just beat siren with 2 potions in her undead form. Each did 100HP damage to her instead of the regular 50.

BTW, Caesar, are you getting the brave blade just for a trophy? Berserkers can't equip it anyways, right?

Yea...unfortunately they can't equip it. It would be massive, though, if they could. Maybe I'll just give the "Berserk" ability to a Knight after I beat the game to test it. shifty.gif

Damn you, Galt. tongue.gif I finished off my WM SCC, too, last night. Had basically the same strat as Galt here. Ah, always fun to complete a game with an underrated class. happy.gif

Anyways, looking for ideas for my next SCC. I was thinking Chemist, but galt here is already progressing through one for them. I had started a Samurai SCC, but it's way too easy when fighting bosses and I am equipped with Toss GP. I'm thinking about...yes, I think I have found the answer: Geomancer. Bells...mmm. cool.gif

Here are some highlights on my chemist SCC so far-

Galura - slapped on the !Revive ability for everybody. Since he could only hit one person (max 2) at a time i revived myself faster than he could strike me down.

LiquidFlame - !Mix-ed 3 "Resist Fire"'s (Ether + Eyedrop) so all his attacks healed me except for one player. That player got KO'd but that's okay. I've already mastered the class for everybody by then.

Ifrit - i collected another ether on the way out of Karnak's Castle and now i had 4 ethers in total. So this time i !Mix-ed 4 "Resist Fires"'s and Ifrit was just sitting there healing me the whole time :)

Byblos - remember the nightmare i had with him being white mages? Well now that i have a bunch of chemists, i just gave him 4 "Lillith Kiss"es (Elixir + Maiden's Kiss) and he's got no MP left. Defeated him after 8 rounds or so. One person got sonic wave-d once. He didn't even get a single wind slash in.

Ramuh - 2 words. "Resist thunder" (Phoenix Down + eyedrop).

Adamantimi/Adamantaimai - used Protect Drink (Turtleshell x 2) and he's attacks were pitifully useless on me.

Sol Cannon + Launchers - fought some black flames before the battle to win me some speed/haste drinks. So i put on angel rings, stealth robes, green berets, and mage mashers x 3 + 1 guardian knife. Chugged the haste drinks at the beginning of the battle. The launchers fired 3 shots at 2 people. And they were gone before the "explosive pressure increased" message. I continued to hack away at the main cannon until the 128% energy message. Then i healed the 2 people. The cannon fired 3 surge beams and that was it. I was a lot faster than it...

And that's all for now.

Posted by: Caesar 30th September 2004 19:55
Well, I am finally ready to go into the N-Zone. I finished everything I need to in the normal world I think. Oh, for those of you who were wondering, it is impossible to beat Gogo. Not Sol Cannon or Sandworm impossible...he is truly impossible. If you hit him physically, he counters with a 9999 damage physical hit, and doesn't miss. So, I have to deal 47,000 damage in 4 hits...not possible. Please refer to the previous post for updates up to now.

Edit
I finally mdae it to Ex-Death! Now, the trick is beating him, even though I am only at level 46, which isn't bad for a party of Berserkers. I haven't beaten either Omega or Shinryuu yet, but I will probably be able to beat Shinryuu. Omega...I doubt it. Anyways, after I stole 3 additional Thor's Hammers, my team suddenly became god-like. I dominated every boss up until Necrophobe....I had some trouble with him. Stupid Bone Mail makes Holy do 3000 damage. Anyways, Gilgamesh finally killed him and I'm at Ex-Death.

First run-through:

I killed Ex-Death tree with all characters intact. Two were at full health, one was in the triple digits, and one had about 2000 HP left. I thought I was in decent shape (oh he missed with White Hole, too....twice!). Anyways, Neo-Exdeath came strolling in and used Almagest and killed two of my characters. The other two, at 1000 HP each, were easily picked off by Ice 3. So...I have a ways to go, I think. My characters have only 3000 HP which may be part of the problem. However, they can dish out near 5k damage per hit with Mjollnir. I guess it's just a race against time...I'll keep you updated.

With one SCC completed and the other almost there, I figured it was time for my own. I was in dubio about what Job to pick: Thief or Dancer. I picked Dancer in the end. I just defeated the Big Bad Flame Thingy. I won't bore anybody with a detailed explanation of the fights, but some general notes:

All bosses so far were suspectable to Temptation Tango. I realize that you shouldn't be able to Muddle anything at this point, hence this fact. FF VI is far more protected against these things, however. It treats every battle as if fought with all sources. Hell, even Whelk is protected against Joker Doom in that game. I know Ifrit is still suspectable, but with him using Fire3 on himself and healing like a madman, that might not be the brightest of ideas.

While bosses pose no huge threat, random encounters have a tendency of being more annoying. The Dancer is plain brittle. It has THE lowest Vitality in the game, and its HP is all that either. A Zuu can reduce your HP by 60 % in a single Special.

The Ship Graveyard was pretty tough. 50 % of the !Dance command contains draining moves, so using it against the undead was not smart. Without this possibility you quickly discover how weak the Dancer really is. Together with the Thief, it has more sucky Strength than you'd expect from a physical job.

It seems that Byblos is a hard mofo when it comes to the SCC! His physical attack kills a Dancer in a single hit. It's not even close: He does around 350 while the current max. HP is about 250. That's just great.

Posted by: Mimic 2nd October 2004 13:06
Many of you probably wouldn't count this as an SCC, but I figured here would be a good a place as any to post updates - Bares. That's no magic whatsoever, or indeed job abilities. It does have its perks, though, like being able to equip any weapon or armour. It'll probably take me a while, what with FFXI having been released so recently here.

hey Caesar, just a suggestion... have you thought of putting on running/winged shoes? I found that speed makes a huge difference when fighting the final battles. Anyway good luck with Neo-ex :) - each part has over 50,000HP... ouch...

Posted by: Caesar 2nd October 2004 18:40
Hmm...no I don't think I have tried that yet. That might be an idea. Although, as of now, I have 4 Wall Wings equipped to reflect Flare and Holy since those put a serious hit on my characters. Plus, when they're reflected, they ALWAYS hit that skeleton-like target in the back of the monstrosity, which I never target.

Posted by: Djibriel 2nd October 2004 19:04
Update on the Dancer SCC. This Job has a lot of contra's, and it's lack of ability to survive is the biggest concern. I've had Chimera's kill my entire party in one hit while at maximum HP, and that wasn't even underleveled.

The Dancer has everything: a HP-draining movie and a strong physical attack. However, the WonderWaltz which drains small amounts of MP is only useful in MP-damaging (which is hardly ever a significant advantage) and the Temptation Tango is not quite as useful as Sword Dance and the Jitterbug Duet.

In other words, this randomness is not always a neglectable disadvantage.

Notes:

Confused monster do *not* regain their senses when hit by a Dance, not even by Sword Dance. JD and SD both did trigger Safe on Byblos, so I'm kinda confused how the game treats these things. If it's physical, it should remove Confuse.

A big pro of the Dancer is that it can wear two types of armor: armor meant for light physical jobs (Kenpo-Silver-Stealth-etc.) and robes for magicians (Cotton-SilkRobe-Eart-etc.). The former focuses more on defense (in a normal game, it's between heavy armor and robes) while the robes focuses more on magic defense. I use the former in normal battles and, in cases such as ArcheoAvis, the latter because I know I'll have to deal more with magical attacks than physical ones.

Currenty in World Two, Moogle Forest. Still nothing terrible. The Ship Graveyard was the worst location so far. Puroburos was a six-pack from hell, and if it hadn't been for the Mage Slasher I would have used a *lot* of Phoenix Downs in that battle. One of the few cases in which the WonderWaltz came in handy, by the way, because where Mute failed, some had no MP left to cast Arise. Next to FlameEater, that was the only battle in which I thanked ye gods for that move.

!Flirt. For a long time I didn't know what this thing did, and because it's an important part of my strategy I'll give a quick description. If successfully hit by !Flirt, the next attack the monster uses will not be executed; instead the message 'Throbbing' appears. I don't quite know about counter attacks, but final attacks such as Puroburos' Arise are still carried out, sadly. Had it not been for !Flirt, D. Chimera would have needed powerleveling. I managed to keep him from attacking with !Flirt and he did not move but to throb.

Obviously, not all monsters are suspectable to this move, and since moves like !Slash and True Edge do or do not work in the same manner of !Flirt (both check if the target is 'heavy' and fail if so), I fear it will be decreasingly useful.

Posted by: Caesar 2nd October 2004 19:33
Djibriel, do you have any suggestions for my final battle? I sort of stuck on Neo-Exdeath. I can deal maybe 20k to each section but 2 Almagests kill me. All I have equipped is Mjollnir, Strength Robe, and Wall Ring on everybody. Oh, and two of them have Aegis Shields. Btw, those shields saved me so many times. It can block Tidal Wave and Almagest, both very powerful attacks. Anyways, two of my characters have 1 eq. weight and 4500 HP, dealing 6-7k per hit, and the other two have like 6 eq. weight and deal similar damage...slightly less, in fact. I am level 55 now, but I am still struggling on Neo-Exdeath. I can kill his first form before he attacks twice, but Neo attacks too many times at once. I espeically don't like his Grand Cross, Almagest, and Physical Attack (x2) round...that usually ends me right there. Maybe I'll equip the Dancing Dirk so I can heal some HP every once and awhile.

Edit
Ok the Dancing Dirk was a bad idea. 200 HP isn't NEAR substantial enough to equip it and lose 4k damage per round. Btw, does anybody know what happens when "the laws of physics are broken"?

Posted by: Djibriel 2nd October 2004 20:45
Okay, your speed battle isn't going all too good. Things you might want to try out: (no guarantees!):

The equipment weight thing is nice, but his attacks simply hurt too much with a Strength Robe. Ditch them and switch to Crystal.

This is a long shot, but here's a thing. Remember those asshole sorcerers in the Cleft of Dimension which use Zombie Powder? You can rarely steal a BoneMail from them. The BoneMail is probably your best bet in this fight as you won't be healing anyway, and it provided superior defences AND some status protections which should help against Grand Cross. Problem is that this way, those BoneMail will be harder to see than Bigfoot in New York. Oh well.

You probably will want to keep those Wall Rings, but have you tried the Winged Shoes anyway? My usual game ends with Berserked Mimics with those things, and I will admit that they are more lightly equipped, but they hit FAST. I beat the game with those guys, and they were as berserked as you are now.

And level 64, yes....not the point. laugh.gif

There was a Giant's Axe in Isotery Falls (hope you picked it) and you should have the Rune Axe. With Crystal equipment, physical attacks aren't that dangerous. Drag your party to the front row and equip them with those weapons. You could've nicked a second Giant's Axe from TwinTania while he was charging up for GigaFlare, but those odds are so astronomically small I'll forgive you for this one.

Finally, the skeleton can be killed with one-hit KO attacks. Might even want to consider the DeathSickle, but it's only half as strong, so propably not. Worth a shot, though, if that thing just doesn't go away. With 33 % for a Death spell it's not too rare.

Also, if the BoneMail thing doesn't work out, Protect Rings heal you, give great magic defense and even add a little Mblock.

Posted by: Caesar 2nd October 2004 22:29
There actually isn't too much of a damage difference with Strength Robe, but there IS a difference in the damage I deal with it equipped. I do approximately 2k more with it on than off. I may switch to crystal armor later, though.

Bone Mail was my main defense throughout the entire game, for the reasons you stated. Bone Mail + Wall Ring is a good combo, but if I unequip the Wall Ring, I got absolutely whomped by Fire 3 and Holy. We're talking one-hit KO here. Anyways, I haven't noticed a substantial enough difference between Bone Mail and Strength Robe. He'll do about 1500 with Bone Mail and maybe 1700 with Str Robe. Berserkers are naturally immune to Age and Confusion, and I doubt Bone Mail protects against Mini or Frog, so I don't think it'll make too much of a difference.

I did try the Winged Shoes on one run-through. I equipped them on Faris. He attacked very very frequently, but was again whomped by Flare/Holy/Ice 3/Fire 3, etc. If I had 4, it may make a difference, but again, losing one character to reflectable spells isn't worth it. I'm losing probably 20k damage by giving him WingedShoes.

I grabbed the Giant's Axe in the falls, of course. That was my main weapon until I found Mjollnir and stole 3 additional ones from Death Claws. I suppose I COULD put my party in the front row with the Giant's and Rune Axes...I'll give it a try once or twice. And no, I didn't get the second Giant's Axe from Twin Tania...I had enough trouble beating him as is.

I'm not sure about the one-hit KO for the skeleton. I could give one character the Assassin dagger or Death Scythe, but again I'm losing a huige amount of damage. I would do the math and probability and such here, but I'm not in the mood. happy.gif Again, it's worth a try once or twice, but I doubt my characters will've used it when they finally beat it. Thank you for your advice, Dji!

A quick Bare upate. Up until Siren, I was actually wishing I had a team of WHMs... The Flail was the best weapon I had, and potions plain suck. First canal battle, Faris got hit by two consecutive bolts and died.
Wingraptor - Broadsword attacks. (6, 6, 6, 6.)
Karlboss - Same. (7,7,7,7.)
Siren - Actually quite hard. Two or three attacks could kill me, so I was using a lot of potions. Then I had to use potions on Siren, because I didn't want to be doing 9 damage. ened up using 15 potions.

Thanks. I'm thinking, after or during this, I might go for an Solo SCC. Any reccomendations as to which job to use? I'm thinking Ninja, Blue Mage, Dragoon or Monk. Kinda leaning towards Monk right now, but I'd appreciate any comments.

A quick Bare update.
Magissa (10, 10, 10, 10.) Managed to beat her before she called Faltzer.
Garula (12, 12, 12, 12.) Kept it paralyzed with the Shock Whip, and attacked. Healed with the Heal Staff when needed.

Bosses are getting increasingly horrible. I don't know the damage formula behind Jitterbug Duet, but it's damage hasn't changed all that much from the beginning of the game 'til now. And seeing how it is my only healing move (next ot HiPotions), and bosses are pounding *hard* these days, it gets a little sucky.

I'm now in World #2, and this should be the absolute low point in the game. Dancers are all lvl. 31, and have about 600 HP. ExDeath attacks consist out of:

Normal physical attack. 300 with Dancer in back row, instant-kill in front row. Dynamo is not my friend.

Special physical attack. 500 with Dancer in back row, instant-kill beyond human comprehension in front row. Dyname is a demon disguised as a spell.

Earth Shaker/Zombie Breath. 500 damage to all.

This is all equipped with AngelRings, so I really shouldn't be having this much defenses anyway. I have no Dance Up, no Magic Lamp for Golem, nothing, actually. 75 % of my attacks are fairly useless and if I want to survive a little, my Sword Dance is coming from the back row, which does less than 1000 HP of damage.

I hate ExDeath. And just ot point out, I had a horrible time fighting the Guardians of the Seal. Those physical attacks are meant to be fillers until you bring their HP down for their magical attacks. Not with Dancers, they cripple under any physical attack. FlameRings helped out in the end. Fire3 on all = heal to da max.

Chemist SCC progress (highlights only):

Archaeoavis - put on flame rings but he only used flame once. Grrr. Protect drink (turtle shell x2) helped a bit. Just mage masher attacks. Slow and long battle.

Puroboros (didn't i say i'll learn their names one day?) - Usual strategy - get HPs low without killing them, so that exploder doesn't hurt much. Thank you X-Potion (potion + ether)

Titan - use "Levitate" (Antidote + maiden's kiss) and he became just a regular hit-and-heal boss...

Kimaira/Chim Brain - didn't have trouble at all. Mage mashers ensure he couldn't aqua rake, and flame rings render blaze useless.

Gilgamesh (bridge) - muted with mage mashers. 'Nuff said.

Dragon grass/Hiryuusol/plant - Chugged some haste/speed drinks and pounded away at all 3 rear flowers/bulbs. The poison & aging ones i left alone because poison doesn't take that much HP and i had angel rings on.

Atomos - haste/speed drinks again. Let him take out one guy, but the remaining 3 pounded away fast enough that the sacrificed character didn't even get sucked in. Whew.

Exdeath (@ castle) - he dispeled too often. So i didn't bother with the drinks. I think the only one i used was the power drink. He wasn't tough, cause i had x-potion on my side (potion + ether).

Antlion - got him loaded on Bacchus' Wine (Holywater/Revivify + turtle shell), so he went berserk on me. But that's okay - that's what protect drinks are for. He wasn't able to sonic wave me and didn't escape either. So i got 3000GP from him :)

Pyramid - hi-potion-ed my way up quite a bit then switched strategy - used bone mail + cursed ring on one of my guys and pounded away. Zephyr Zones were a pain in the you-know-where so i gave them dragon breath (dragon fang x 2) - same damage as user HP. Machine heads? Bacchus' wine.

Merugene/Mellusion - got out my morning star on the strongest character and used the rest to heal. That was about it....

the ribbon is located at the level directly above the dungeon (where Cid and the party were once imprisoned). I believe it is B3. Anyway it is a left-right symmetrical room. The chest on the left contains the ribbon, and the chest on the right a shuriken. They are both guarded.

Thanks. Bare update. Woo.
Liquid Flame - 16,16,16,16 - Broke 2 Fire rods.
IronClaw - 17,17,17,17 - Just attacked.
Ifrit - 17, 17, 17, 17 - Two Ice Rods.
Byblos - 18, 18, 18, 18 - Well, I wanted a challenge, so I tried whittling down his HP. Got him to the Drain Phase. A couple of Drains or Wind Slashes can kill me outright, it seems. So that was no-go. Ended up attacking until the Drain phase, then breaking a Fire Rod. This is a very costly SCC.

That's the one. wink.gif Added my most recent update to my last post, by the way.

I know, I should really concentrate on one, but this just beckoned me, with it's hellish challenge. A Solo SCC. Perhaps the most difficult SSCC possible. I'm talking, of course, about ONE. WHITE. MAGE. I just started it, and, it's already hell. Running from every battle in the Pirate Cave, I allowed myself one fight. A Vampire Bat and two of those... non-crab things got me down to 5hp from 46 before I won. Currently levelling to 12 near the Wind Shrine.

And I beat it! Many Cures, absolutely loads of staff thwacks, and it went like this. Breath Wing, Thwack, Breath Wing, Thwack, Breath Wing, Thwack (Occasionally), Close wings, Cure. wash, rinse and repeat. This is actually quite fun.

Screw this being fun. This is war. Karlboss = Evil. I usually get a hit or two in for 40-58 damage, before I get paralyzed. He usually Tailscrews me after that, followed by a healthy dose of Physical attack or another Tentacle before I can heal, killing me. Guess I've got a few more levels to gain. Current level = 17.

It is definitely up there, but I'd go with either Theif or Berserker. I doubt it's possible with a single Berserker, since I can't even beat the final boss with 4 of them. blink.gif

Apparently, a Berserker SSCC is actually impossible. Well, Exdeath is, anyway. Someone got that far, though.

a Berserker SSCC is actually impossible... Someone got that far, though.

my 2 cents is that they must be bluffing. This berserker must deal:

1) 20000HP damage to atomos before being Comet-ted to death - which doesn't take long without Shell/Protect.

2) target the right seal guardians at the right time to avoid their elemental spells (either that or pray that the DoomCut/Scythe works every time)

3) ~15000HP damage to the dragon grass/hiryuusol/plant thing with all those status-ailment-inflicting pollen attacks.

etc etc etc.

I really doubt this single berserker got to the final exdeath.

Hmm, I guess. The Wall Ring won't reflect those Comets, will it? Meh.

Look, this is how DUMB this SSCC is. Karlabos actually ran me out of MP before I could get a hit in. This is terrible. Level 19, and I'm not giving up!

No, Comet and Meteo are pretty much the only offensive dimension magic the wall ring does not reflect. (I'm not sure about xzone - very few monsters cast it, and when they do - alcumia being one of them - i didn't have wall rings on to find out :(

That's amazing that you haven't given up, Mimic. I would've broken down and maybe added a knight to beat karlabos/karl boss. :(

If you hit a Flare with a physical attack, they will counter with a 9999 damage attack.

Quote
a Berserker SSCC is actually impossible... Someone got that far, though.

Mimic, is this person called Not Dave from GameFAQs? I enjoy reading his SCC/SSCC attempts.

Quote
my 2 cents is that they must be bluffing.

He isn't bluffing. The Berserker SSCC is the only one he hasn't been able to finish. Heck, he's completed a Bard SSCC! I'll see if I've still got some of his SSCC attempts saved.

I'm thinking of doing a SCC soon-with 4 Archers!

Posted by: Mimic 6th October 2004 19:35
Yeah, not Dave. That's him. Well, I recently must of got Karlabos down to 150 hp (out of 650). I was annoying when I died, but it showed me it could be possible. Here's a question, though. Would anyone count using Save States to my advantage cheating? What about changing my dead characters' jobs as so I can have access to their innates, such as the Geomancers' Resist Damage Floors? (I forget its' name.)

Man, I whittled it down to 155hp using Save States, and this sucks. He starts Tentacle'ing me as soon as I load my State. He then Tailscrews me, and I get a turn. If I attack, the next Tentacle kills me. If I Cure, then He kills me with several Tentacles. I'm growing to hate Karlabos.

Posted by: Caesar 6th October 2004 21:14
I don't doubt it's possible to get to Ex-Death with one Berserker, but beating it is impossible. The Seal Guardians would fall vs. the Doom Scythe, Atomos could be conquered by high levels and a nice weapon. Heck, Faris alone took 3 comets a lived, and she didn't even have great equipment on, and wasn't on a high level. The only trouble I can see would be early bosses like SandWorm, LiquiFlame, and even WingRaptor...nasty counterattacks. Oh, Sol Cannon would be hell as well.

Quote

I wouldn't consider using save states OUTSIDE of battle cheating. Heck, I did it to save time in such places as the Fork Tower, Shiva, and those other nasty battles which took several too many tries to beat. Using them in the battle itself is questionable, though. I would definitely consider switching jobs cheating. I would've loved to switch to a White Mage in that one place with the fire panels...the Trench, I think? I went through 99 potion, 99 Hi-potions, a handful of Tents when I could, and a handful of elixers going through that section.

Posted by: Mimic 6th October 2004 21:29
Okay about the Savestates, but what I meant was, reviving my characters (as I'm doing this with just one living WHM) just so I can change their jobs, and then killing them, having the Job Innates of Thief, Ninja and Geomancer? They still work when you have dead characters. Thats more first attacks, less back attacks and no floor damage.

Unless you actually did understand me, and I misunderstood you. If I did, my mistake.

Posted by: Caesar 6th October 2004 22:37
Ahh no that was my mistake. I don't think that would be allowed. The only exception I can think of would be Thief since the Dash ability would help speed things up, and the hidden paths ability doesnt really do much, since you can disable layers in ZSNES. You're just saying yourself time by using those...no real advantage. Ninja and Geomancer I would consider cheating since the give a substantial innate ability. That's just me, though. You do what you want, it's your challenge.

Posted by: Rune Knight 7th October 2004 13:01
I couldn't find the information, but I knew he was Level 99 at Sandworm. Even then, it wasn't easy. Here's the levels he completed the other Solos:

Order of completion and levels:

1. Monk - Lvl 71
2. Hunter - Lvl 53
3. Samurai - Lvl 59
4. Summoner - Lvl 69
5. Ninja - Lvl 63
6. Geomancer - Lvl 75
7. Chemist - Lvl 52
8. Bard - Lvl 77
9. Bare - Lvl 59
10. Time Mage - Lvl 60
11. Trainer - Lvl 64
12. Thief - Lvl 71
13. Dragoon - Lvl 50
14. Blue Mage - Lvl 50
15. Mystic Knight - Lvl 57
16. White Mage - Lvl 87
17. Knight - Lvl 56
18. Black Mage - Lvl 60
19. Dancer - Lvl 64
20. Mime - Lvl 61
21. Red Mage - Lvl 66

Wow, I was overleveled for a lot of those.

Difficulties:

The five easiest were probably Chemist, Blue Mage, Hunter, Ninja, and Samurai, in no particular order. Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner get honorable mentions.

The three hardest were probably White Mage, Thief, and Bard, in that order.--Not Dave.

Posted by: Mimic 7th October 2004 21:14
This is insanely hard. Seriously, there is no real skill involved, it's just me praying he doesn't use Tentacle, Tailscrew, Physical, or repeated Tentacles. Can anyone suggest ANYTHING? This is unbearable. I can deal 45-60 damage per hit, and am level 20 or so. If Not Dave and sqpat can do it, it must be possible, but watching the video, it doesn't use the dreaded combos once. This is all luck, and the odds are stacked high against me. Sorry for ranting, but this is really, really frustrating.

Posted by: galt123 10th October 2004 21:05
Chemist SCC finished - highlights:

Omniscient - no magic from chemists means i had to berserk him with Bacchus Wine, and he was hitting hard afterwards. I "split shell"-ed him and used air lances since he's weak to wind. Took a while to knock him down.

Riviathan/Leviathan - put on coral rings and he didn't tidal wave me once. Urgggh. So i holy-breath-ed (deals same amount of damage as user HP) him to death.

Odin - his element is holy so i switched strategy and used drain kiss. ~3000 HP each time. dead after 6 drain kisses with 20 secs left.

Bahamut - put wall rings on and holy-breath-ed him. Also reflected an "Atomic Ray" and a Mega Flare back to him (for 9999 damage which KOed him)

Omega - Kiss of Blessing came in handy here (Bersk+Haste+Image). I don't plan on hitting him physically (hey do any of you? I would only dream of it if i had something like !X-fight/!Sshot). So image does not benefit him in my case. But haste does. It was annoying, since his attacks do ~1700HP to back row with Armor/Safe active. My characters keep having to heal themselves. Then i found out a good trick for these hard hitting bosses. It turns out that "Dark Breath" (dragon fang+dark matter) deals (max HP minus current HP) damage to any enemy. Same effect as the "????" blue spell. The difference is Dark Breath does not miss. I gambled and did ~6500HP to him one time. Took a while but i got my omega medal. :) (bacchus's wine does not work BTW)

King of dimension castle (forgot his name) - sure he turned my party into frogs but that's okay. My chemist mixes can still be done when i have the frog status. I just kept "drain-kissing" him. He didn't do much bad stuff after that.

Shinryuu - think omega hits hard when berserked? This guy does 4500 HP damage to the *back row*. Ouch. Good thing "bacchus' wine" works. The first little bit i was busy putting defenses (haste/speed drinks) up and healing while he was pounding hard. Then since he is *not* healed by dragon breath (dragon fangx2), i alternatively used that and dark breath - depending on the user's HP level - and got him eventually. I was a bunch of chemists holding a ragnarok sword. What a shame... :(

Exdeath - put on running/winged shoes (standard procedure for the final bosses:) and angel suits/gowns. The tree missed me with white hole once. Phew. After a few good holy -breath's he morphed into ...

Neo-exdeath - strangely death potion (phoenix down+dark matter) does not work on the back target, but true edge (from the magic lamp) did. I wound my magic lamp down to ifrit (hellfire). Golem (earth wall) blocked all the vacuum waves. Sadly carbunkl (ruby light) didn't get to reflect anything :(. I mostly used shadow flare (dark matterx2) on him and did about 3000HP damage each. I didn't holy-breath him much since i was getting low on dragon fangs. He grand crossed me once but i didn't get affected much since i had angel gowns on. He blinded a character and downsized another. Those didn't bother me since all i did was to mix stuff. He also berserked Faris, but i un-berserked her using "panacea" (i forgot the ingredients). The cleft of dimension whittled my supplies down to 17 dragon fangs and 30 odd pieces of dark matter. But i finally did it. A team of chemists beat ff5.

Wow. Mimic - that's pretty amazing with your solo white SSCC - i don't think i'll ever have patience for that. I play ff5 SCC's because of the strategy/challenge factor. I usually give up if there is too much randomness involved. I admire both you and Caesar for it. BTW Caesar, any luck with neo-ex? -galt123

Posted by: Mimic 10th October 2004 22:21
Speaking of that, level 24 and no luck as of yet. I got very, very close, about 135hp, then the dreaded combo killed me off. I will do this, I swear. One thing I noticed, however - Are enemy attack patterns affected by your actions? (Sorry if this is a very well-known thing or something. I'm not into game mechanics or anything of that nature.) I say this because it seems his are. Say, for instance, I use a physical attack. If I continue to use physicals, he will also use physicals. If I then Cure, he may well change to Tentacle/Physical combos. Is this just coincidence, my hopes of him getting stuck in a physical or Tailscrew loop?

Posted by: Caesar 10th October 2004 23:17
Unfortunately, galt, I have been unable to defeat Neo-Exdeath. I haven't had the patience to try time after time again, so I will resume whenever I feel like it. In the meantime, I may try another SCC. Any recommendations are appreciated. There are few I wouldn't mind doing. These include Monk, Trainer, Mystic Knight (easy, yes, but still fun), Geomancer, and Mime. I don't know if Mime is possible, so I'm sorta leaning towards that. Only problem is, Galuf doesn't have the Mime class, because
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
he's not around by the time you can get it

, so it wouldn't be a *true* SCC until World 3.

Posted by: Endless Knight 11th October 2004 01:23
You could always make Galuf bare, and give him some black magic. If somebody did a physical attack, you copy that, and if somebody does magic of a certain element, you mimic that as close as possible. Later of course, you switch to Mimic.

Still really iffy, but it's an idea. unsure.gif

Posted by: Caesar 11th October 2004 01:50
There's a GG code that enables all classes from the get-go, but Galuf doesn't have Mimic, so he'd be left out whilst the others Mimic away.

Actually he can "be" a mimic. He'll just have no sprite. It'll look really funny: like damage done to nobody; a knife swinging in the air, etc etc. It actually looks kinda comical. At least that's what happens in my version.

Posted by: Blue Mage 11th October 2004 03:24
Look at me! I'm still here!

A while back I did beat the Knight SCC. Neo was a huge pain in the rear. Running Shoes are absolutely neccessary for the fight. I'm probably very soon going to attempt a Monk SCC or maybe even Trainer one, which seems like fun.

Oh, and every SCC is possible and have been done, along with most SSCCs(solo single class challenge).

IIRC, the only that hasn't been completed was Mimic, or so it says in the SCC guide on GameFAQs.

Hang on to your knickers, people. Teh Djibriel is doing a graphic hack. A graphic hack! The world has gone mad.

Galuf doesn't have a Mimic spirte, so I'm making one. I'm paying close attention to his 'Bare' class (as the Mimic class is just that, same poses, but with a cape) and Butz his Mimic job. The work is harder than you'd think right away, but still kinda fun. It's a first, and all.

When it's done I'll give a shout here at CoN, so any of you SCC crazies can try this horrible game smile.gif It's basically a 'Bare' SCC with a lot of equipment restrictions (= no Rod breaking), so providing it's possible it should be quite the challenge.

Edit
Galuf can still be a Mimic, though, so you don't actually *need* the patch to try this. It's just that Galuf'll be invisible throughout the game.

Posted by: Mimic 11th October 2004 14:24
YES! This has been one of my main beefswith a Mimic SCC! I'm sort of obsessive over things like that, but would do that SCC in an instant if Galuf actually had a sprite.

Copy/Paste in the Address bar, plz.

Note that the colours would be different (the same palette as the Galuf 'Bare' class, obviously).

Edit
Respond to Mimic's post: All four Mimic sprites are the same as the respetive 'Bare' job sprites, only with a cape. I want to stick to that rule as I believe it will make it look more credible. I could've just pasted the Bare graphics if I wanted, but I want to make people forget one of those is actually a custom sprite smile.gif

Monk SCC anyone? If so, are you able to get past the tower of magic without cheating? I recently got there myself. I'll have to get past the tower of magic to get "Kaiser's Knuckles" (brawl power up) - one in a chest in the great trench and 3 more fighting fall guards behind the waterfalls. (I just realized why they're called fall guards - they guard the falls - anyway i digress)... at least i would like to get kaiser's knuckles.

Yes, it is possible to get past the Fork Tower with pretty much any class. It involves the characters facing Omniscient having Wall Rings equipped. Then it's a waiting game for Omniscient to run out of his 30000 MP. It takes a long time, but it's possible.

thanks - good point. never thought of that. However, Reset/Return only uses 1MP. So what if Omniscient has 1 MP left and all the other spells he casts takes more than 1MP? Am i still screwed? :O

edit: wait a minute - white magic "scan" uses 1 MP as well. I seem to recall him scanning once in a while, is that correct?

Plus, he won't just Return randomly. By attacking him, you change his attack pattern, so keep changing until he gets to one that uses Scan and doesn't reflect attack spells of himself. I'm probably wrong, though.

Actually he uses Return/Reset as a "counterattack" to any physical attack against him. I've sat and watched him fire spells at me with wall rings on. This guy casts almost all level 5 and below white/black/dimen spells. It is true, however, that he doesn't cast reset/return unless attacked physically.

Monk SCC: got omniscient finally - thanks to Rune Knight and Mimic. :) Yes it took a looooong time to empty his insane amount of MP. I waited until "Scan...Not Enough MP" appeared on screen before i went ahead and attacked him. This way i don't waste all that waiting time. He did Drain me a couple of times, but earlier on he had a Wall/Reflect on himself when he casted Regen. So i got quickly healed automatically.

Congratulations. I'm thinking of actually completing an SCC at some point, but that's beside the point. I'm still trying with my WHM, the Scourge of the Seas. Aaand... yet another SCC, I've got four Geomancers at Garula. Strategy has been basically spam Terrain against bosses, but I'm kind of looking forward to/dreading Sol Cannon. Terrain doesn't work on it, it seems. Looks like I'll be ringing my bell alittle. Or alot.

Posted by: Djibriel 14th October 2004 11:30
The damage it does is half the damage you would do with ????. In other words:

Damage = (max HP - current HP)/2

Blue Mage? Just curious... how exactly did you get your Knights past Byblos? I know they have a pretty one-dimensional battle strategy, but what level were you?

Posted by: Blue Mage 18th October 2004 18:36
I was around level 14-20(can't remember), I think.

Byblos is a tough fight, not because of anything but its length. It's very annoying to have him cast Safe on himself after physically attacking him, but the true killer in the fight is Drain. Drain healed him for about 300, the amount of damage two Knights do to him with Safe on. The key to the fight is to slowly wean his HP down, since Drain did not happen every turn. In the fight Potions heal too little and too slowly(because you cannot waste turns healing because of the urgency and risk of Drain) and I did not have too many High Potions, so I had to use 5 Elixers once my High Potion supply dwindled. The fight is tough; it took me about 4 tries.

Yeah, drain was a drag. On a white mage SCC drain was the reason i had to "drain" his MP. Pun intended :P - I just couldn't attack him fast enough with 4 white mages when he keeps draining me. Really makes me wonder how that "Not Dave" person from gameFAQ did it with one living white mage....

Yeah. I noticed today he was level 40 when he beat Karlabos, and I'm at 26. He must've been very high when he beat Byblos. (Level wise.) And Archeoavis would've been horrible. And Sol Cannon. And possibly Sandworm.

That makes sense. With high level, the success rate of sonic wave, thread, mgchammer, drain etc drops significantly. I was around low 30s when i fought with Byblos with my 4 whites (i think - it has been a while). I guess the only attacks ND had to worry about were physicals and wind slash.

Sandworm actually wouldn't be that hard. As long as you don't trigger Demi by hitting the wrong hole. His only other attack is the quicksand move which takes of 60HP and causes a slow HP drain. Nothing Cure2 can't fix. It will be a looooooooong battle.

But you're right about the Sol Cannon battle. Since surge beam takes off half your max HP regardless, and he wouldn't have Cure3 until world 2, i wonder how many elixirs he used in that battle?.... Hmmm...

Edit
Anybody tried any interesting SCC's lately? I started an archer SCC earlier but never got past world 1 - because of lack of inspiration. But !Animals rule - use it to beat a lot of bosses :) - used !X-fight/!Sshot for byblos in combination with !Animals...

Im wondering what sort of SCCs (single-class, not single-character) people out there have done so far. I know I've seen a couple masochists trying out the Berserker and White Mage SCCs, and Im sure Sorcerer (M. Knight), Knight, and Monk have been done... anyone try anything else? I thought of trying a couple.. maybe Elementalist/Geomancer or Blue Mage (would you folks consider it legal to control the enemies to get the 'helpful' spells?), but since this would be my third time through, first SCC, maybe I should stick with something a little less crazy, like Ninja!

I've only done SCCs for FF1 and Tactics, but I'm thinking of taking this one on again with a Red Mage or Blue Mage playthrough. Red Mage is probably harder than it sounds, because without White or Black mages, you can't have any spells above level 3. I think I'll try a Blue Mage playthrough sometime, as soon as I finish all these other games I'm working on.

Posted by: WildHalcyon 6th July 2005 22:23
Hmmm, very interesting topic.. this is one of the reasons I love FFV more than any other Final Fantasy.

I'm thinking of starting a few at once, using different save states, and focusing on on at a time. Probably Monk, Sorcerer, and Blue Mage for a bit of variety. Normally, my favorite class is Thief.. but only when there's other people to actually do damage with. Im also curious to try a Dragoon SCC, but they seem more or less completely limited in their abilities, like controllable berserkers with less damage and HP potential. Maybe a Ninja or Archer would be better...

Posted by: NeoEx-Death 6th July 2005 22:53
Why not try a No-Job game?

Posted by: Caesar 6th July 2005 22:53
I did one with Berserker while back, and I finished one with Sorceror not too long ago. Sorceror was really fun (chicken knife + flare sword = lots of damage. Even as a frog, I did over 6k). Berserker was annoying, but still a good experience.

I think I started a Monk and a Bard a little awhile back, but I don't know where I am in either. Maybe I'll take it up again, maybe not. Who knows.

Posted by: WildHalcyon 7th July 2005 03:43
Now that I've discovered this great thread, I started a couple. I won't be seeing all of them to the end (at least, not right now). I just want to see how they are through at least to Karnak, and maybe decide there which I'll keep playing:

Blue Mage
Dragoon/Lancer
Monk
Thief
Sorcerer

The ones I'm most excited about are probably Blue Mage, Monk, and Sorcerer.

Although monks can really only fight, they do it very well (and on the cheap). The Fork Tower will probably be the trickiest... no mage mashers for me. Im not sure that portion of the game is beatable with SCC Monks. If not, I'll try to tackle everything else. **EDIT** Forgot about Wall Rings and making Omniscent run out of MP...

Blue Mage should be fun... especially from the initial poster's experience. Ive always LOVED Blue Magic, even though I hated Strago. I think that one should be entirely beatable after a point (that point being ExDeath's Castle...)

Sorcerer will be pretty easy, but is more or less just for fun. They're a great class normally in the game - as good as either a Black Mage or a Knight. The only thing they're really missing is healing, but thank goodness for items.

Im not sure how the Lancer party will fair - it takes a while to get any spears, and even when you HAVE them, physical attacks and the !Lance ability are your only options in a fight. Anyone beat Neo-ExDeath with this ragtag group of hyperactive fighters?

Thief... man, I STILL think they're my favorite class, but... not with four of them. They just can't get the damage potential up there. If they had something else.. maybe the Ninja's throwing ability, then they'd be more lethal.

As far as the No-Job challenge.. its never been something I've been into. There's similar challenges - such as the No-Materia Challenge for VII, and I know that it's something that I could do, but it would just bore me to tears...

So far, Im at Walz w/ every party. The easiest so far has been Sorcerer, which was a rather humorous battle with Magissa and Faltzer, killing Magissa immediately after summoning Faltzer, and killing Faltzer after he managed only a single attack (sleep is amazing). Monks have been easy as well, Siren fell to them without doing a single point of damage. Thus far, my assessment of the Thief and Dragoon SCCs has been 100% correct.

Some time ago, I said I'd start an Archer SCC. I got to World 3, but my save messed up and I had to do it again. So far:

Archer SCC

Beginning- Didn't do much damage, with 2 weapons between 4 characters. Why doesn't Tule sell knives, why?

Wing Raptor (Lvl 6)- A few hits took it down.

Karlabos (Lvl 9)- Bee Swarm and Squirrel made quick work of him, surprisingly. I won some Daggers in the Ship Graveyard while I was there.

Siren (Lvl 10)- 4 Squirrels + 3 Bee Swarms= Victory!

Magisa/Forza (Lvl 11)-Nightingale healed Poison, Bee Swarm/Squirrel for damage. Had to use 2 Phoenix Downs though.

Shiva (Lvl 12)- Took a few tries, but Animals prevailed.

Galura (Lvl 12)- Bee Swarm beat it easily.

Liquid Flame (Lvl 18)- I miss Ice2. sad.gif Healed with Potions/Nightingale, ran the tornado out of MP and beat the tornado form for the Fire Bow!

That's all so far.

Started a Monk SCC, no problem with any of the bosses so far. Just got into the Canal and am about to fight the whirlpool thingy. Level 6 with Job level 1 already.

Posted by: Caesar 12th July 2005 14:29
With my Monk game, I'm at the floating Lonka Ruins....almost. I have to beat Sol Cannon. Lemme tell ya, confusion + Monk = bad! I haven't played in awhile, but that's where I am.

Bard game, I just made it to Karnak.

Samurai game was too easy so I aborted.

Posted by: footbigmike 12th July 2005 14:58
Garula, piece of cake. Although the first time he wiped the florr with my battered remains thumbdown.gif .
At Karnak. 'Bout to have a go at fire ship.

Maybe after i finish this one, i'll try a Beserker...

Posted by: Caesar 12th July 2005 15:24
Berserker is really really fun, but annoying as hell. It's extremely easy to level up, since you just jam on the fast-forward key forever, but it's nearly impossible to beat bosses like Sandworm and Sol Cannon (when Surge Beam does 1200 to you, that's not a good sign). Some really tough bosses, but you can mainly just plow through the rest since they're so strong. happy.gif

Among the hardest are Wing Raptor, LiquiFlame, Sandworm, Sol Cannon, and mainly anything in the third world. Gargoyles, and those three weird alien thingies that use Delta attack come to mind.

You may be talking aout the beserker, but i just faced LiquiFlame at level 15 with my Monk Level at 4. Putting it simply, a couple of hits of Blaze and Fire2 and i was down. Everyone has about 530 hp. They deal about 150 each hit, and since monks do 2 hits, thats 300 per hit. Yet, i still lost to him.

Edit
I take it back. He was'nt hard at all. I just used !Store with each character and managed to get critical with Bartz. !Store + Critical + 2 hits = 1300+ Damage. And yes, he did do a double critical.
Only problem was, Reina died, which made her out of sync with the experience my other characters have.

Posted by: WildHalcyon 13th July 2005 02:07
I'd be happy with a victory regardless. I've been trying to beat Shiva with my Monks and it hasn't been a pretty sight. One Ice2 to the face and a character dies. Even with some boosted HP, I'll need to level up a bit to take her out. It doesn't really matter, since she's optional... I'll just need to make sure I beat her solid ASAP.

Edit
Im officially loathing the Berserker SCC at this point. Sandworm... argh! I did a quick tally to see how accurately my berserkers could hit the sandworm. Given that the sandworm only occupies one of three holes, a 1/3 hit rate would be considered 'blind luck', however, after 6 separate matches (not loading savestates, even outside of battle, since they still have predictable outcomes), I found their accuracy to be approximately 1/7 or less than 15%. I'm at level 22, which I consider high for this part of the game normally, but GEEZ!... more leveling, here I come!

Just some notes abot the Brave Blade/Chicken Knife:

Contrary to popular belief, the Brave Blade DOES NOT get stronger if you fight more battles. It can only get weaker if you escape from battles. Since only Knights can equip it, don't be afraid to run in SCCs other than Knight. Max attack: 150 ohmy.gif

Conversely, the Chicken Knife doesn't get weaker if you fight battles. It can only become stronger from escaping. This makes it a good choice. There's the nasty fleeing effect to deal with, but commands like X-Fight and Dance null this. Max attack: 127 and it's equippable by all classes except for Monks and White Mages thumbup.gif (Knights can equip it, but they should use the Brave Blade. I think there's a limit to how much you can power the Chicken Knife up after receiving it. So do your escaping beforehand)

Might be common knowledge, but just to let you know...

Nope. You can still power it up after you get it. I remember because after I got it with my Mystic Knights, I went to that one place with the Conagos (don't remember the name...), and just ran for like 15 minutes on fast forward. It was annoying as hell to do, but doing max damage every time, even as a frog, made it worth doing. happy.gif

Edit
I just started a Time Wizard SCC. I am currently at the Ship Graveyard with no problems to speak of at the moment. It will certainly be an interesting challenge, since I'll have no offense until I pick up Meteo and Slow and Haste. Speed isn't going to do much for me. Maybe Demi will, but early-level Jikuu is terrible.

And with three characters with just over 1000 hp each, when they use explosion, i'm in severe critical health.

Im still on Sandworm with my Berserkers. I don't think Puroboros will be too bad, but Im not sure what to expect. The most I've managed to get Sandworm down is 1200 damage, not even half. Guess it means I get to level up some more.

Rune Knight: how do you do an Archer SCC when you don't get the Archer crystal until you heimlich the black chocobo in Crescent Isle. According to your walkthrough, you should be just getting there now!

Posted by: Mimic 14th July 2005 15:15
You cheat. 'Unlock all jobs' codes are readily available for cheat cartridges/discs or emulators with built-in code-y things. Anyone interested in undertaking such challenges could do worse than using these.

If you're using a ROM, input this.
7E0840FF
7E0841FF
7E0842FF

PS cheat cartridges need this to unlock all jobs.
8002E840 FFFF
3002E842 00FF

SSCCs are also quite popular, so if you want all characters spare one to remain dead, ROM users should input this.
7e051a80 : Character 1 always Dead
7e056a80 : Character 2 always Dead
7e05ba80 : Character 3 always Dead
7e060a80 : Character 4 always Dead

All jobs code, just like Mimic said. It's cheating, but it's the only way to do most SCCs. tongue.gif

Basically, I got lucky.

You said more, and I realize I need to level up a bit, and keep trying. Thanks for the advice Caesar.

There should be a "Berserker SCC v. Sandworm" support group. Friends helping friends cope with tragedy.

Posted by: Caesar 14th July 2005 18:17
Haha. Sandworm was a beast. I think I cried after I beat him.

Just wait until you get to Sol Cannon. After you beat him, you beat the hardest bosses for a Berserker, until you get to Seal Guardian, those three alien thingies in world three, and then anything in the N-Zone. Believe me, World two is really, really fun with a Berserker team. happy.gif

Btw, don't be afraid to level like mad in World One. I think I was level 40 before I beat Sol Cannon, and level 46 when I made it to Neo-Exdeath.

Edit
Oh, and I'd be all for a Berserker SCC support group. thumbup.gif

Hello, my name's footbigmike and i'm here suffering from trauma. Trauma caused by the pain of a FF5 Beserker SCC. I...I...can't do it!! *breaks down into tears*

Umm... anyway. It must've been a complete fluke that i beat SolCannon. The first two hits hit the two mini-cannons. He got one Blast off, but just beat him before the second.

Damned Puroboros. Explosion. Hate. Kill. Very.

Posted by: WildHalcyon 17th July 2005 02:24
No luck so far. Im at level 25 and Sandworm is still chopping my characters into bite-size chunks with Demi, then devouring them with his puny Quicksand attack. Im NOT looking forward to Sol Cannon, but maybe all that leveling will give me time to afford some flame rings. I could have levelled up more, but I took a break to work on some (much easier) SCCs. I've decided that I'll probably end up playing each SCC, so I'm working my way through several. Blue Mage is very fun, I now have Lv. 5 Doom and Aqua Breath, so they feel all uber-powerful. Archer is also nice, in fact, they breezed through everything they've encountered so far, and they don't even have !X-Fight yet. My monks had some trouble in Karnak, but the Sorcerers have been taking it easy all the way to Cresent.

Posted by: Caesar 2nd August 2005 02:39
I believe a bump is in place.

I began a Dragoon SCC two days ago and, thanks to the fast-forward feature, I am now very close to the end (two more tablets to get, and I'm done...oh, Bahamut and Phoenix still, but other than that, I'm set). Anyways, I would just like to share another strat for Omniscient.

In my notes from Berserker SCC, you can see that Omniscient can be beat by using 3 Mage Mashers (since I think it had a 1/3 chance to cast Mute), and simply attack for awhile and you'll win. Well, here's another, very very easy, quite cheap, method. Simply have 3 Dragoons (that's what I used since my other one took no damage from Minotaur) Jump, and Omniscient should cast several "Ineffective" spells since you are in the air and since he casts spells frequently. When you land, this is no different, and he soon finds himself unable to cast Return because it is "Ineffective". Yea, I beat him using only physical attacks. Take that, FFV!

So yea, still no problems yet and I foresee none in the future. Maybe Leviathan, but I don't see how anybody can be hard, what with my mastery of the jump glitch now. I can do it on command now, even in normal battles. Low-level game, anyone? happy.gif

Edit
Beat it! Not bad at all. Thanks to Jump Glitch, I took 0 damage from the first form, and also thanks to jump glitch, I could only be hit by VacuumWave, Almagest, and Grand Cross, since all the other parts' attacks were "Ineffective". That is, until all was gone but the last section, at which point Meteo owned me. I soon learned to leave two parts and then send two Dragoons to jump on one and two on the other. Easy enough. My high max HP was 2000 and low was 1400, but I didn't need much since I never got hit. happy.gif Level: 34-37.

Next up, who knows, but I'm gonna start another one real soon.

Posted by: Shadow's Shadow 2nd August 2005 05:12
I'm starting a Mystic Knight (Sorceror) SCC right now. It'll probably be similar to the Knight SCC, though, except I'll be able to actually take advantage of elemental weaknesses. But I'll never have access to Double Grip, however, so there are upsides and downsides.

I'll probably do a Lancer (Dragoon) SCC too (which would be very easy, what with Jump).

Posted by: Caesar 2nd August 2005 16:46
Mystic Knight is really fun. Chicken Knife is your best friend in this. I had no problem with anything. Most enemies can be insta-killed along with most bosses (just use Fire/Ice/Bolt 3 or Bio sword and then attack depending on their weakness, and they die instantly). Have fun!

I might try Knight next, but I feel like using a mage. Maybe I'll continue Time mage, or maybe Summoner.

Posted by: Silverlance 2nd August 2005 16:55
Just curious, do you guys fight the "Weapons"? I'm talking about Shinryu and Omega, obviously.

A white mage SCC against Omega makes me cringe.

Posted by: Caesar 2nd August 2005 17:13
Nah. I didn't want to with Mystic Knight and they're impossible with Berserker. Dragoon I tried, but I only had 2000 HP, so a single target-all attack killed me (tidal wave, atomic ray, poison breath, surge beam x2, etc.). So that's a no. As of now, I haven't beaten them.

Edit
I started a Black Wizard challenge yesterday. Piece of cake. Once I acquired some Flame Rings, the game was over in my mind. Flame Rod + Flame Ring + Fire 2 on self = full heal. A multi-targetted Fire 2 on my party will heal ~800 HP out of 750. Nice. A third-tier spell with the corresponding element rod equipped deals ~3000 damage, making any battle a joke. Let's take Ex-death for example. I have all four equipped with Flame Rings and Rods. He hits me, I have one person Fire 2 my party, the other three Fire 3 him. There's like 8000 damage. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Didn't kill a single member. Sometimes, I equip 4 WallRings and then reflect Fire 3 or Bio off my party against a single enemy (e.g. Atomos), and that'll do like 7000 damage. Good for the quick kill (such as Odin). I should beat it tomorrow...I see nothing holding me back.

Once I get MP+30% and Aspil this will become a joke. Seriously. Black Wizards kick ass. They can effectively heal and deal MASSIVE damage. Can't beat them.

Edit
Beat it! No problems with any boss, except Necrofobia. He gave me some issues, since I couldn't kill the barriers fast enough (reflecting Fire 3's isn't really effective), but I managed to beat him easy enough. A single Fire 3 (not reflected) deals 9999 damage against him. I was doing 8000 per Fire 3 against tree Ex-Death, and Neo wasn't hard, either.

Levels: 35-36
HP: ~1200
MP: ~400

Difficulty: 0

I'm going to try an SCCC: single class and character. biggrin.gif

I don't know if it's possible, and I'm 100% positive it's impossible with some classes (berzerker? smile.gif ) but it sounds like fun. Monk should be pretty easy.

Well, I don't know if it's actually possible. Maybe an SCC is more reasonable. lol

Posted by: Caesar 6th August 2005 21:16
That has another more-well-known name: SSCC- straight single class challenge. That implies that you use only a single character and only a single class.

I'm going to finish all 22 SCC's before I move onto SSCC's. happy.gif

I have just one question. Can you switch between the Bare job and the one job you selected for the challenge anytime you want to? And equip its abilities on the bare job?

Because if you can't do that, then it's a bummber to fight as a Bare in the beginning of a single class challenge.

Do you mean, can you switch to bare once you mastered your class so it's basically like using the class except you can equip everything? That's a no. For me, at least. When I first start the game, I input the game genie code that enables all classes, and from then on (we're talking pre-Wind Shrine till the end of the game), I don't switch, no matter how impossible the battles are (Berserker against Sol Cannon and Sandworm...yea I would've LOVED to switch at least one character out).

Then there's no reason to start a SCC for you since you can't equip jobs while you fight as Bartz alone in the meteor crater and while rescuing Reina and Galuf.. But that's up to you..

Posted by: Caesar 9th August 2005 21:01
Eh? There's no reason for me to start one because I went through two battles against 1-HP enemies without a job class? I was simply saying that, in the nature of the challenge, switching BACK to the bare class is not allowed. Once you pick a job, that's that. happy.gif

I started an archer SCC about 2 days, but didn't finish reading this topic to post until just now. I might not remember it all very clearly, but here are some highlights:
pre-wind shrine: I actually wished I was using spearless dragoons instead of bowless archers. At least dragoons had jump to dodge some attacks.
right after wind shrine: I got animals. No more wishing I was dragoons again. Rabid squirels+pre karnak= cakewalk.
liquidflame: about 5 tries, but I finally did it. Why doesn't nightingale ever show up when you need it? At least someone (Faris) has a bow now.
Byblos: Is hell. Potions don't heal nearly enough, I drain his mp, and nightingale NEVER shows up when i need it.
Rest of world 1:not too difficult, and nightingale is finally somewhat reliable!
Start of world 2-atomos: ME AND MY ARMY OF TINY WOODLAND CREATURES ARE INVINCIBLE! Also I picked up wall rings.
Atomos: I tried healing from his attacks and lost 4 times in a row. Then I got frustrated and just held down A and fast forward. Somehow, itb kills him. blink.gif
Guido's Cave: I finally learned X-Fight. For the most part, any and all challenge is gone.
4-Seals: ouch. challenge is back. Decide to takethem one at a time, with someone constantly healing with high potions. it works.
N-Zone: just like to point out, against the forest boss, I had haste shoes on. She went first and casted regen on herself. I proceeded to use x fight with everyone. She died before regen healed her once.
Apanda: I've always considered apanda to be sorta like Byblos2. Only this time, my group ISN'T composed of bowless archers.
X-Death: I'm now lvl 45, and I can't beat him. I think I might need to level a little more, even though Dragoons and Blue Mages could both beat him at this level. Archers have niether healing nor jump, so after Almagest i'm pretty much gonna die. Any ideas?

Posted by: Caesar 16th August 2005 01:39
I can see Neo-ExDeath being tough with Archers, due to all the targets and the random targetting of X-Fight. He's a tough boss with any party, really. It's hard to keep healing, and Archers don't really have spectacular HP; they can't dodge an attack, either, like a Dragon or Bard can.

I think levelling up so all of your members can withstand an Almagest is the way to go. 4 Wall Rings to reflect the third-tier spells that they use, and to get past Ex-Death without suffering any damage.

Posted by: Fox 16th August 2005 03:46
Well, right now they CAN withstand Almagest, It's just that I can't recover from it afterwards. I'm probably just gonna level up a little more, but I'd rather not.

I'm in the middle of:

Dragoon/Lancer, (Steamship)
Knight, (Magissa-Not doing too well sleep.gif )
and Ninja. (Walse/Walz)

Dragoon and Ninja are easy enough, but Magissa is whooping my Knights' asses. mad.gif Any suggestions? Im level 11.

Posted by: Caesar 11th September 2005 02:06
Don't one of the first towns sell BroadSwords and armor? I'm assuming you're doing the SCC and not the SSCC (the former using 4 characters, the latter using only 1). If so, then I can't really see anything else for you to do. They should be no problem at all, if you are equipped with the best you can find.

Dragoon is REALLY easy, once you learn how to activate the glitch. Sorta cheap, yes, but you don't have to worry about Atomos, Ex-death, Galura, or some parts of Neo-Exdeath.

Posted by: Lionfart 16th September 2005 21:40
I myself was considering starting an SCC, but I haven't tried this before. Any suggestions as to what I should use? I don't want to use anything too strong for it (i.e. Samurai, Chemist), I want a challenge, just not one that'll drive me crazy.

Thanks in advance, you know, assuming someone'll say something tongue.gif

Posted by: Caesar 17th September 2005 01:20
Hmm. Well, I myself did Berserker, Mystic Knight, Black Wizard, and Dragoon. The latter three were all pieces of cake. Ones that might be fun yet moderately difficult might be Time Wizard, Summoner (until you get !Summon and/or some decent summon magic), Geomancer (though it might get tiring using !Terrain ALL the time), Blue Mage, Red Mage, and Mediator. They're mainly mages, yes, because the physical classes are not hard unless it's Thief or a weak class like that, in which case it's extremely difficult until you get some good equipment.

Hope this helps! happy.gif

I always thought a Bard SCC would be fun, but until they get to Crescent, they're unbearably weak.

Posted by: Barrylocke 6th October 2005 15:33
I'm considering doing an SCC. What do you think would be could for someone doing their first SCC. Perhaps Mystic Knight...

Posted by: Caesar 6th October 2005 19:52
Well, that all depends on what kind of a challenge you're looking for. If you only want to do it, do it with your favorite class, definitely. But if you plan to do multiple SCCs, then it depends on what you want in your first challenge. If you want to do one just to get the jist of how it works, go with Mystic Knight (really easy). Also, it kinda depends on what type class you're comfortable using (physical vs magical).

I really enjoyed doing both Dragoon and Black Mage and neither were particularly difficult after you master the Jump glitch. Mystic Knight or either of those would be excellent choices. Not Berserker, that's for sure. huh.gif

I can't see Samurai or Ninja being particularly hard, either,so either of those would be good, I'm sure. tongue.gif

Posted by: Djibriel 6th October 2005 20:20
If Fox is still around: have you tried !Animals? Between level 10 and 60, you can get an MP-free healing spell in Nightingale, and if you level all the way up to 60 (which, granted, takes some time) you get a shot at Unicorn, which completely restores HP. It's random, but with some Hermes shoes you should get in quite some !Animals before the next Almagest (though you'll be equipping Wall Rings, so never mind the Hermes).

Don't do Dancer. Dancer is merely boring. You'll want to stick to
!Dance. Always.

Posted by: Barrylocke 7th October 2005 12:26
I'm going to use the Game Genie code earlier in this thread and do Mystic Knight. Once I beat the game of course normally.

Posted by: Fox 26th October 2005 21:24
I'm still here, Djibrie. Wasn't when you said that, but still. I've tried animals, it didn't work, although I'm only at lvl 50 right now. Ill try your idea if I can't beat him at 55 or 60 by ordinary means.

UPDATE: w00t, I finally beat him! Lvl 60 using a variation of the method Dijibriel suggested. Instead of wall rings I had haste shoes, and I had one person aiming instead of using animals. The reasons I went with haste shoes are because A. I needed to be able to use animals rapidly in order to have a decent chance of getting anything usefull, in otherwords nightingale or unicorn. B. Odin (from the magic lamp) killed off the parts using magic. Not sure if it's supossed to, but I'm not exactly complaining. Next up: Black Mages. I wanna do something easy and magic before I start theif.

Posted by: footbigmike 30th October 2005 14:26
Well, i beat my Monk SCC a few weeks ago, so i might go for an archer now. My levels at the end were about 60-65. 'twas fun.

Am i right in saying that if you equip a job at the first chance you have (Tycoon Meteor) and you're doing an Mimic SCC, you have no chance in the first battle, because the only command you have is Mimic and you have no rods or anything to break?

Posted by: Zeromus_X 30th October 2005 16:58
has anyone done a bare game? (play the whole game with just the bare class? if it hasnt been said before...)

i guess itd be kindof easy, what with the rings and any equipment and all, but there wouldnt be any magic, except for rods. perhaps i should start a bare challenge. shifty.gif

Posted by: Caesar 30th October 2005 17:07
FBM, I'm not exactly sure how Mimic would work. You can assign !Item as a command for him, IIRC, but I don't remember if you could assign !Fight or not. If you could, you'd be all set. If not, ehhhhhhhh. thumbdown.gif

Zeromus_X, I remember someone asking that question before, or saying they were gonna do it. I don't remember who it was, but I quite sure it's been done before. Maybe it was said earlier in this thread? I dunno. Too lazy to check.

Posted by: Mimic 30th October 2005 17:42
If memory serves, you have to have learnt any other job ability before you can equip !Fight and !Item, so the first battle of the game is impossible as a Mimic.

Fox, my characters have JUST enough HP to survive almagest: approximately 1700. Almagest does like 1500-1600 damage to everybody, so I just keep everybody fully healed at all times. I forgot what set-up I used against him, but I think I had Fire Rings all around and had two or three characters using Fire 3 on myself for the entire battle.

Or I may be mistaken, and maybe I used Wall Rings. I don't remember, honestly.

I dare any of you guys here to try a Thief. It'll be worth it. The Double Lance rocks!! And Magic Lamp aswell.. You know you'll enjoy stealing smile.gif

I got pretty far to Sage Gill's sunken home... I have no problem with any more bosses eversince Archeoavis.. Atomos wasn't even that hard because I stole plenty of Double Lances from the Rock Guards in Val Castle and Bartz, my LV 43 thief, does 900 Damage each blow with the Double Lance on Atomos!! Very useful..

Actually, while I was waiting for ceasar to tell me how he beat neo at that level (don't wanna go train if I don't have to), I started a theif game on a different save state. I'm not very far right now, though. I think I'm on the steamship.

At the Steamship!? The monsters there are hecka easy! I hope you don't mind if I help you with that place.. Just trying to be of good use..

For Thief, it's an excellent opportunity to steal Hi-Potions from Poltergeists (Those things that looks like one in the back is connecting his tongue to the back of the one to the front) one by one and stealing Elixir from the hard-to-steal-from Zuu (That big flying bird outside of Karnak).

If you're at the Liquid Flame boss, and you can't beat him, keep always healing your guys up with Hi-Potions and those awesome Elixirs until he runs out of MP. Then ram your attacks on him and when he transforms, that means he'll be using Fire attacks to heal him. Keep healing yourself and every time he attacks you with fire and then that part will run out of MP too. Beat him down and that's it. happy.gif

Good luck you, because Byblos is gonna beat you down.. Luckily, I passed that coward. smile.gif

Well, I suppose its not a big deal, but I beat several SCCs. Since Im pretty sure all the SCCs have been completed, but I celebrate in my own pride:

- M. Knight: Easy. But strangely fun. One of the most enjoyable SCCs. I do wish, however, that there was a Cure sword magic spell - I'd love to beat my characters back to full health.

- Black Mage: Another easy one, except for the very low health. Flame rings are entirely unfair. Daggery doom!

- Ninja: high evade is fun. As a small varient to this, I might try a ninja/samurai two-class challenge. Not really a challenge, but that's part of the point.

Im still working on blue mage. Lack of a trainer is really getting to me. ARGH!

Next up is probably chemist or trainer. They're both classes I RARELY use in a normal game. I use trainers to control for blue magic, and I only use chemists when Im mastering the chemist class. It'll be a nice change of pace.

WildHalcyon, part of what made the Mystic Knight SCC so enjoyable for me was the Drain Sword magic. I love just watching the enemy try, in vain, to deal lsating damage to me. Even if I only did 300 damage, I still had all 4 characters at full health for the entire game. biggrin.gif

Well, until the N-Zone, that is. Then I let Flare sword just beat the holy heck out of everything. The notorious Flare Sword- Chicken Knife combo works wonders, even as a Frog (7000 damage as a frog isn't too shabby).

I want to do another SCC now. I'm at X-Death with Monk but he is way strong for me, so I think I'll start another for now.

Posted by: WildHalcyon 11th November 2005 21:10
Drain Sword is nice, but there are a few places where its not useful, like the undersea canyon. Fire worked well there, but I missed healing.

I tried monk for a bit. I liked the incredibly gross amount of HP that my characters got. The lack of elemental and magic damage was hurting a little. I gave up around the time I realized the fork tower was going to be more than a little impossible.

On the other hand, trainer should be pretty unique - the ability to cause damage is dependent entirely upon the enemies faced.

Posted by: Caesar 11th November 2005 21:39
I was thinking of doing Trainer sometime soon, too. I want to do a physical job first, though. Maybe Knight or Ninja or something. I don't know.

If you do Trainer, you might want to check out Djibriel's site. There is a page that I can only assume would be amazing to look at if you're doing the Trainer SCC. It has what spell each monster casts when released. Pretty cool:

I did Knight as my first SSC, and it wasn't a walk in the Park. I first just avoided Fork tower, and went straight for the N-zone. Bad idea. I struggled my way through it, and finally went back to Fork tower. Took me FOREVER to beat magic Fork tower, but I got lucky and had Mage Knifes proc for me just right.

Second time through, I decided to do Monks. This time I made sure to get a Wall ring in Barrier tower. That is how I got past Fork tower with Monk, but now I'm stuck at Neo-X-death.

i put it aside for now, but I hope to get back into it soon. Don't know what I should try for my 3rd. Definatly NOT another Physical class.

Posted by: ultimage 12th November 2005 19:51
I too have decided to take on a Thief SCC. Sounded fun biggrin.gif So far it's not too tough, but I've only just started. Just reached level 10 and am just about to tackle the mountain with the dragon on it (just after the wind shrine).

The first SCC I ever started was Berserker. They're still incredibly overpowered and mired in quicksand. I don't know if they'll ever make it out alive.

I wouldn't think knights would be a walk in the park. Their heavy armor keeps them weighted down and slow. In almost every RPG where you get a number of attacks per unit time (dA/dt), increasing the rate of attack is much more valuable than increasing the amount of damage you deal per turn. Their additional defense and HP from vitality help offset this, but I suspect that thief and ninja might be easier classes to SCC.

The knights wasn't a walk in the park, but I would say it is Several times easier then Monk. Between getting the Brave Blade, Exalabur, and 2 Enhancers, Double Grip on all of them, and Runningshoes for Haste, brute force goes along way. Leveling up till you have Mid-2000's hp, and buying Elixers is the rest. Making sure to get a Wall-Ring in Barrier Tower (2 would be better) would have made it easier to get through Fork Tower, and just brute strength will let you compleate everything else through N-zone. Neo-X-Death was a struggle, trying to keep everyone alive, but I'd give it about mid-difficulty. (I did all sidequests, including Bahamut, Phoenix Tower, Odin, and all 4 tablets with the Knight. Trench was annoying, but I just went in with 99 Hi-potions, and came out with 2.)

I'm having alot more trouble with monks, just because in N-zone, KaiserKnuckles are a must, which takes up a spot for RunningShoes/Guard Rings. They have tons of HP, but even WITH KaiserKnuckles, they don't do enough damage to Neo-X-Death.

Posted by: Caesar 12th November 2005 23:30
Yea, Monks are tough. I'm stuck on X-Death in world 2. Well, not really STUCK, I'm just too lazy to get out sinec I don't particularly like Monks.

Knight wouldn't be TOO awful, I don't think. I, too, think they'd be easier than Monks, especially since there are elemental weapons for them so you can play weaknesses a little bit.

Berserker was my first SCC, and I made it all the way to Neo-Exdeath somehow. I can't beat him, though. Not being able to heal is a HUGE drawback. Basically, you hafta go into the battle with Neo without taking any damage from the first form at all, and then hope you hit the right enemies and such. I got him down to two targets, but Almagest is a freakin monster. I might come back to it later...

Posted by: Fadien 13th November 2005 01:49
Did you get any Wall Rings in Barrier Tower Caeser? Helps against X-death alot too. I remember just BARELY making it through him. sad.gif

Posted by: Caesar 13th November 2005 02:38
Yea, I always pick up 4 in there. I think my main problem is not being able to heal fast enough. The third-tier black magic isn't bad, and he really doesn't get too hard until he attacks three times per turn. And that's not even too bad until he does VacuumWave and EarthShaker as two of his attacks. Those are really hard to recover from. I remember getting really far and then he'd kill one of my characters with that combo, and then while I was busy healing the others, he'd do it again, and then again. I guess I should just keep attacking when he gets to that point, or keep track of his damage and then use 4 Build-ups to try to bypass that whole 3-attack-per-turn stage entirely.

I dunno. If I get back into it, I'll prolly find some way to beat him.

Posted by: WildHalcyon 15th November 2005 16:37
Trainers are going well. They're at Karnak. I'm spending a lot of time just taking them around trying to find the best enemies to capture, Im not using the capture guide just checking every enemy I encounter.

Capturing is pretty difficult without the jar. I'll only get ONE too.. ouch. Can I capture an enemy with it, finish the battle, swap the jar to someone else, and still have the first captured monster?

I don't see why not. You don't lose your monster if you change your weapons, do you?

If you do, then you may be in trouble. But, as I'm assuming, don't lose your monster, than you should be safe.

Oh man... Garula kicked my ass. My thieves are at lvl 15 or so, and they're each armed with the current best armor and stolen mythril knives. 99 tonics don't help either... time to lvl up some more. Or maybe I just suck. blush.gif

Posted by: WildHalcyon 16th November 2005 14:11
It gets easier as thieves level up, but they're always going to be a little behind in the HP and damage depts.

Posted by: footbigmike 4th February 2006 17:58
Well, there hasn't been a post here for a while, and i think this topic deserves to stay open.

My berserkers didn't do very well, and got stuck at the beginning of world 2, so i had to start from the beginning. I got through fairly easily, Siren changed to undead at the worst possible time though, so i had trouble with her, but scraped by. All went well until Karnak. I was level 15 and thought "I have the best weapons and armour, i'll wipe the floor with Liquid Flame". How wrong i was. Fire2 and Blaze got me begging for mercy. plus, the useless accuracy of the Mythril Hammers allowed him to heal using Fire2. I kept training and got to level 18. I beat him with only Reina standing. Very close, but hey. It was only after that i thought it might have been a good idea to use mage mashers to silence him...

At the current, i'm heading back to Walz to get Shiva. Am not looking forward to Byblos, however.

Edit
Fought Shiva, was a lot easier than i expected. But then again, it's intended for before Garula. Accuracy still sucked though.

Byblos is a cakewalk compared to the sandworm. *shudder*

Posted by: Caesar 5th February 2006 02:35
And Sandworm is a walk in the park compared to Sol Cannon, Catastrophe (since you can't use float), and Neo-Exdeath.

Posted by: berskersrpretty 5th February 2006 05:34
Well, since people have started posting here I think I will too, I am now in world three with my berskers gotten everything and am now stuck . . . . on the forest boss in the cleft of deminsion. Any ideas? Also, footbigmike goodluck with sand worm , , , he is evil. I suggest lvl 30 and a large amount of luck.

Posted by: Caesar 5th February 2006 16:26
I don't remember having any trouble with the forest boss. I'm not really sure to tell you. Just enter the battle and you should win. happy.gif

Just for grins, what level are you?

Posted by: berskersrpretty 5th February 2006 18:48
I'm lvl 45 right now and trying to figure how to get 4 mjonirs.

Posted by: Caesar 6th February 2006 04:08
You can steal Thor's Hammer/Mjollnir (I forgot what it's called in-game...I prefer Mjollnir since it's cooler happy.gif ) from somebody in the N-Zone using the Thief Knife. I think it was one of those claw thingies. Death Claw? I don't know. Either Death Claw or a palette swap, I think. Regardless, he is past the N-Zone, I believe, so unfortunately, those are out of the question.

You can steal another of the most powerful axes (Giant Axe?) from Twin Tania before it uses Megaflare on you, if you happen to get lucky enough to land that finishing blow with a Berserker with Thief Knife and just happen to steal it. Even I didn't get that lucky. tongue.gif

Best of luck!

Man... I really feel like playing a berzerker SCC. >:) Just patch in a code to make Butz into one right from the start and...

I think I will. >:)

Posted by: berskersrpretty 6th February 2006 04:22
well, since that is out of the question I guess I'll just gain a few lvls . . . thanks though caesar. BTW, you think I could make a thread devoted to berserker SCC's or should it stay here.? Also, if you have the patience you should silverlance its quite fun also the all jobs code is on the fist page of this thread.

Posted by: Silverlance 6th February 2006 04:30
I have the codes; takes about a second to find the right one by switching characters jobs and looking for IDs. wink.gif I made myself a code to keep the other characters dead at all times too, since this is an SCaCC (I had FF6's SCC (single character challenge) in mind; Single Character and Class Challenge.)

Here are the codes I'm using...
7E:0501 - 0x06 ; Butz is a 'zerker.
7E:2086 - 0x0000 ; Force Lenna's HP to 0. Kills her instantly.
7E:2106 - 0x0000 ; Ditto with Galuf/Kara/Kururu/call her whatever and just sod off allready!
7E:2186 - 0x0000 ; Faris. Cuz y'know, screw her and all that. >"<
7E:0BBF - 0x03 ; Cuz it's funny. happy.gif
7E:1D05 - 0x?? ; With varying values for the same reason as the above code. Sorry SPC7000, you're being raped. XD

Obviously this is impossible, but I want to see how far I can go. biggrin.gif I'm going to have to cook up a code to let myself switch Butz into the other party for the twin towers though (if I get there) otherwise it won't be a real SCC...

Edit: Already level 9-ish. Gotta love the recovery spring in the first cave...

Edit 2: ...Sol Cannon? Man, that's an easy fight even with just physical attacks. Unless you're playing a low-level game...

Posted by: berskersrpretty 6th February 2006 04:33
well, just so you know its impossible . . . you cannot beat solcannon its impossible with one person, everything else maybe . . but not solcannon he does too much damage.

Edit: no you just cant do enough damage you see the lauchers will be easy but you can only get hit by surge beam twice . . I dont think you can do that much damage fast enough. .(no offence of course.)

Posted by: Caesar 6th February 2006 20:44
Actually, with a single character, you can only take a single Surge Beam, since you will most definitely get hit by rocket. A SSCC is impossible.

And yes, Sol Cannon is incredibly hard with 4 Berserkers. Two surge beams = instakill.

And I am a huge trend setter for inspiring two others to do the SCC. happy.gif

Edit
Oh, and to answer your question, berskersrpretty, I see no problem with using this thread for Berserker SCC discussion. It is an SCC, after all.

Posted by: berskersrpretty 6th February 2006 20:59
That is fine with me caesar, and I have been wondering did you ever beat the bersker SCC,

Posted by: footbigmike 6th February 2006 21:06
I ended up taking on the ancient library as soon as I got there, which was at level 19. As i progressed, i was easily killing the enemies, and even Ifrit, who i completely forgot about, i beat fairly easily. However, as i fought Byblos, i seem to suck. All enemies i can beat like *that*. When it comes to bosses, i can't do a thing. It's quite irritating, but i guess i need to train anyways, since Sandworm is soon after. Last time, I was the luckiest guy on earth. I'm not gonna be underleveled when i get there.

As for Byblos, i could leave the Ancient library and train more, or i can keep trying. He only has 600 more HP than LiquidFlame, but keeps on using Protes when i attack. By the end, i'm only doing about 100 damage, when i can get up to 500.

Hehe... whew.

This is turning out to be a fun (if impossible) challenge!

Posted by: NeoEx-Death 6th February 2006 23:32
You're crazy.

On my game, I already got all of my thieves above LV 70, but now all I'm just doing is saving up alot of Gil to buy Elixirs.

Posted by: Silverlance 7th February 2006 01:34
Oh maaan...

DO NOT USE A CODE TO SET YOUR JOB! Sure it's great early on, but I soon realized that my stats were not those of a berzerker. As soon as I got the crystal that allowed me to make a berzerker, I set it manually and the difference was STUNNING. HP increased to 150% of what it was and strength doubled!!

So technically, what I've been doing so far was like playing a jobless char while grinding 'A' and with nothing but axes and knives. ohmy.gif

Edit: Hehe, so far so good, now that I have proper stats.
Edit2: SolCannon! But... he's much easier than I thought. I can't quite beat it yet, but SurgeBeam only does 800 damage. I'm about level 35 and can dish out up to nearly 3000 damage + small cannons before dying if lucky. If I powerlevel a bit, I'm pretty confident it won't be any trouble taking him down...

The REAL toughie was that god damned sandworm! I spent all evening trying to kill it. Pure luck. Nothing but pure luck. There's no other way to beat that damned thing... :/ And I doubt I'll ever be lucky enough to hit it 5 conscecutive times again in one battle. Unless there's a trick to it that could've saved me nearly 4 hours of reloading and crossing my fingers.

I know I'll hit a snag eventually (if a 4 berzerker SCC challenge is impossible, then a single character berzerker SCC challenge is even less possible!) but I don't think it'll be SolCannon. At this rate I might get lucky on one of my runs.

Posted by: berskersrpretty 7th February 2006 01:50
Wow, that is smooth. but anyway I am finally past the byblos pallate switch. yea i'll be at exdeath soon.

Edit: i'm ahppy you actually have normal stats.

Posted by: footbigmike 7th February 2006 16:50
I think it was because of Atomos that a single Berserker is impossible. I seem to recall Caesar saying you have to be about level 70 to survive.

Edit
Beat Byblos with Faris only survivor. Level 20!! Now to do what i should have done a loooooooong time ago. Level up!!

Posted by: Caesar 7th February 2006 21:24
Level 70? Naw. Atomos wasn't too bad, to be perfectly honest. Faris (I think it was Faris) was able to take like 3 comets before she died, IIRC. I only lost her in that battle.

But yea, with a single berserker, look out.

Posted by: Silverlance 8th February 2006 00:31
I'll be lucky if I can even come close to Atomos...

Level 50(!) and Sol Cannon is still beating me. However, I've come very close to killing it on a few lucky rounds where I'd target nothing but the cannon itself and hit 2-3 times with a critical (I do over 1200 damage on crits.) If I'm patient enough to gain maybe 5-10 more levels, it'll just be a matter of luck.

Considering damage is based on your HP, having more HP in this fight doesn't quite make as much a difference as being able to dish out more damage. It's too early to take advantage of equipment for this sort of thing though. But the damage formula for axes takes your level into consideration, so higher levelled characters means more damage, which in turn means the cannon dies faster, WHICH in turn means less hits by that stupid beam. biggrin.gif

Current records
Most damage on cannon: about 6500 damage.
Most beams taken on the chin before kicking the bucket: 2 (killed by the second one.)
Most rounds survived: 7 + 4 -> 11.

11 rounds to kill it. It has... about 10k hp? If I can do over 1k per hit each round, I should be able to take out the lil' launchers and the cannon. My regular attacks only do about 800 though, and I miss sometimes, so some levellage will be required...

On a side-note, I was curious and wanted to see if it is beatable and patched in a code to level to 99. At level 99, after 3 attempts, it went down. So I now know I'm not just wasting my time anymore. tongue.gif ...And truly hope I won't have to level up to 99 on enemy formations that give ~1000 exp per kill.

Posted by: Caesar 8th February 2006 00:40
RL, unequip your character of EVERYTHING except the strongest weapon available to you (I forgot which, sorry), and the Strength Robe (since that doesn't affect equipment weight, I don't believe). You will find yourself attacking more frequently, and although you would take more damage from physical attacks, you will find that doesn't matter since all of Sol Cannon's attacks are HP-based. Therefore, do it.

And I remember doing like 1200 per hit normally at a lower level than that. Let me find my game and reload a state to see if it's not just a bad memory.

Edit
No luck finding an earlier savestate. The earliest I could find was level 43 and I was dealing ~1400 damage with Death Scythe.

Posted by: Silverlance 8th February 2006 01:17
I think the strongest weapon you can get at that point is the death scythe. Strength robe, though, you can't get until later on in the game (unless I missed something? I'm keeping my fingers crossed here! tongue.gif )

I'll try unequipping stuff. Maybe a few extra hits are just what I need to beat it... smile.gif

Edit: Seems 7 or less weight count as none, as the game divides by 8 and rounds down. Kenpo robe gives a small boost to str and increases weight by 3. Elf cape increases it by 1 and boosts agi by 1, meaning I get a speed increase right there. That setup allowed me to land an extra attack. Plus, my damage seems to be around 1400-1500 at that point.

The algorithm for axes is...
(Rand((WeaponAttack x 0.5) .. (WeaponAttack x 1.5)) - EnemyDef) x ((Level x Strength) / 128 + 2)
In my case, the formula'd be...
(Rand(20..60) - 5) x ((50 x 50) / 128 + 2)
Rand(15..55) x (2500 / 128 + 2)
Rand(15..55) x (19 + 2)
Rand(15..55) x 21
So from 315 to 1155 damage for a regular hit, and 840 to 2520 for a critical hit.

22500 (damn man, I thought it had way less than that!) means ~10 rounds of critical hits. Which is unlikely.

More levelling will be required. tongue.gif

Edit: Must've done over 12k before aging kicked in too hard! Talk about luck, too. At this rate maybe it IS possible if I gain a few more levels... gonna take some mad luck though. And patience... I can gain 1 level every 15-20 minutes or so WITH the fastforward key... It's not the damage that sucks so much as aging; aging means less damage, which means more attacks launched at me. Which means I die. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Caesar 8th February 2006 02:14
No strength robe? I thought crescent sold those.

Darn...I guess my memory isn't as good as it would seem. dry.gif

Good luck, RL!

Edit

True, but you can still buy them at Kelb and Surgate during Galuf's World.

You can still get to Surgate before getting the submarine =)

Posted by: Caesar 8th February 2006 02:35
Yea, but that doesn't help in the fight against Sol Cannon. happy.gif

It might help against Atomos, but even that is doubtful...the added Magic defense might be more desirable than more attacks. But then again, what would I know? I used four characters. laugh.gif

Posted by: Silverlance 8th February 2006 02:40
That's +3 str, I think...?

Judging from the damage formula, by the time you reach Atomos it won't make too much of a difference. Being able to land an extra hit before dying might be a better deal than being able to do ~100 extra damage per attack... but I dunno. Haven't checked, I don't feel like screwing about with damage algorithms right now. tongue.gif I've pretty much taken a break for the night and my brain's now in Endless Saga mode.

Then again... with just one char, I don't think it'll make a difference either way at that point. wink.gif

Oh! Duh. I almost forgot. Angel Ring. You're bound to have heaps of gold lying around from all that leveling. Buy an Angel Ring and watch yourself not age. Not age = more damage. More damage = less Sol Cannon. happy.gif

Bought in Istory Falls for 50k. That might be useful info to know.

(That should read "Berserker luck!!" come to think of it. Level 62, absolutely perfect fight. And I thought that sandworm was a tough one...)

Totally breezed through the ruins. I pretty much held fastfoward the whole way. happy.gif But now the puroboros (sp?) boss is owning me quite hard. Exploder hurts. 6 exploders in a row hurt hard.

Aw god damnit. :x

Edit 2: Ok, I figured out how to kill this boss. Level 64, equip the DoomCut axe, Stealth robe, Elf Cape, and nothing else. Your speed will be pretty high and your evade high enough not to worry about physical damage all that much. Doomcut will force it to use Arise when it kills one of them, which whittles away their MP. Soon enough they won't have enough left to use Arise or Exploder anymore. Takes a bit of luck though, as they tend to go a little crazy with Exploder and kill you before you can drain them enough...

Edit 3: What lies in store for Rune and his psychotic berserker from hell?

Well, that's that. I can't beat Gilgamesh with a level 1 Galuf. The only alternative would be substituting him for Butz and using my 'zerker against him.

Anyone else having better luck with their challenges? smile.gif

It was as i approached Easterly village that i realised just how underlevelled i was. Almost every enemy i faced was beating me bad! I healed in Easterly and then began to look for Ramuh in the forest. However, the five minidragons and their frostbite ability forced me to retreat. I was low on health, and by the worst chance possible, encountered Ramuh on the way back. He was easier than i expected, and i managed to survive with all characters.

I'm gonna save money to get some angel rings. Hopefully i'll kill sandworm without too much trouble. Alas, i doubt it will be that easy.

That's right Gilly... have a little DOOM why don'tcha? smile.gif

Well, seems like I can continue now.

Edit: Ohhh yeah. Atomos is going to be a horrifying pain to beat, if it's even possible!! I can get his comet to do only ~600 damage per use, but he uses it so often it hardly matters. Still, when I'm lucky, I can do some heavy damage to him (at about 1500 per hit, too.) IF I can last just a bit longer, and that's a bit IF, maybe I'll get lucky with criticals and do just enough damage to beat him... but I'll have to level to 80+ and that'll take forever.

My equipment and stats
Poison Axe, Gold Shield, Hypno, Strength robe, AngelRing
Str 52, Agi 16, Vit 52, MPw 3, Atk 48, Def 25, Eva 30, MDf 14, Weight 14 (removing the gold shield drops it to 9, 2 points over the next level, so there's no point...)
6037 hp, level 66

Still, Sol Cannon seemed impossible and I got lucky... but I'm not crossing my fingers for this one. I think I did 10,000 damage on my best attempt (but stupidly had the doomcut instead of poisonaxe) out of ~20,000 hp. :/

Edit 2: IRONY~! First attempt after this post! I kept doing ~2500 per hit for 3-4 rounds straight, and got another hit like that or two in somewhere along the way, screen started flashing, and... surprise.

http://img143.imageshack.us/my.php?image=image15bh.gif

SolCannon was the hardest to date, tied in closely with that sand worm. Atomos was though but died pretty fast all things considered. Gotta love having party members to keep him busy with all that sucking to get a few hits in before the meteor shower!

Edit 3: Aaaand doomcut works on the seal crystals. Too damned easy. XD

Posted by: footbigmike 12th February 2006 09:52
At level 21. This is annoying. I need a place where i can get good EXP, because at the moment i'm getting 300 per battle, and my characters need about 3000-4000 to level up. The MiniDragons give 900 EXP each, and there are always 5 of them, so i can get about 1100 EXP if i beat them. I'd be fine if they just used physical, but no - they have to use Frostbite, don't they?

Edit
Since i still had Mythril Hammers, i checked the FFV section and it said that there were Cleavers in Jacohl. Went and bout four, then remembered a little place just of Crescent island that I usually train at at the end of World 1. With the Black Chocobo, however, there's only one island i can land on. Encountered a few "Crescent" enemies. The first one i defeated dropped a Death Scythe. So, fairly quickly, my attack power has gone from 28 to 43. After a while i managed to get a Death Scythe for everyone. Now i'm level 23, and going to take on SandWorm again. Does anyone know if he's susceptible to Death?

Edit
Edit 2: Although i'm doing much more damage with the Death Scythes, they rarely hit SandWorm. The holes don't like having Death cast on them, and counter with two Demi's instead of 1. It's very depressing to die from Quicksand, which, as Silverlance said, only does about 60 max.

Edit
Edit3: I can now take down those Minidragon's easily, and I am gaining levels easily. I reckon if i get Angel Rings, SolCannon will be a piece of cake compared to Sandworm. I don't exactly believe that, though.

Is it actually possible to complete a Bersekrer SCC, or is there no possible way on earth that you can?

I'm not sure if there is a way to beat it win only Berserkers. I'm stuck on the final boss, and I've pretty much given up trying. For anyone trying it, you could try reading some of my posts earlier in this thread. I left some of my strategies against late-game bosses there, which might be helpful (e.g. if you didn't know that death works on the seal crystals). Might be worth a read to save yourself some frustration.

Heh.. Even my thieves are stuck there too. It's all because of *beep* Exdeath's White Hole. I don't think that any other equipment but Ribbon can prevent it, but since thieves can't equip Ribbons, tough luck =P

By the way, doesn't Bone Mail prevent petrification and death? If so, then I'm saved =)

Posted by: Silverlance 13th February 2006 01:38
Hrm, I know for sure a SCSJC (Single Character, Single Job Challenge) with a berserker is impossible to beat, but with 4 and an amazing amount of luck, maybe. Maybe if you get the right hits in and luck out on criticals throughout the entire battle. But the chance of that happening are terrifyingly low. Maybe too low. Not being able to heal is a horrible pain, and being so slow doesn't help.

To beat the sandworm, you just need luck. There's no way out. Either you hit the worm or one of the holes. If you hit the holes, you'll rapidly end up dead after just a few rounds. If you hit the worm a few times, though, it's all good...

At level 50-ish, with the doom axe, a berserker "only" has to hit the worm 3-4 times. Your level affects the damage you do as much as strength, but that last one can't be affected by more than a few points. So gain levels. wink.gif The best place you can level at right now is where you got that axe. Not sure if exp is shared or not, but I used to get ~1000 exp per fight. The fast forward key is your friend.

Not sure which class I'll do next... those dudes that use the terrain to attack? Or beast tamer, maybe...? Playing a berserker is boring, it's either luck or patience. Too few axes to even bother hunting for equipment (other than the doom axe.) No control at all in battle. Too slow to run from battles when trying to make it back to the boss. And all that levelling, GOD, THE LEVELLING UP!! blink.gif;

Posted by: footbigmike 14th February 2006 13:31
Level 29 with about 1250 HP each. The best place i can level is with the MiniDragons, they give 1125 EXP each character per battle. Sandworm is still whooping me. I might leave it and return to it later.

I want to do a SCSJC, but I have the PS1 version and don't know the character 2, 3, 4 always dead codes. Any help? I was thinking of a Mystic Knight.

Posted by: WildHalcyon 17th February 2006 21:27
It seems strange that the most popular SCC seems to be berserker. Or maybe that's just the most popular one to post and rant about. biggrin.gif I never did leave W1 with my berserkers. I eventually got bored with mindless overleveling and worked on some happy Blue Mage SCC fun. Im not really playing by "the rules" so to speak, because I more or less just wanted to lay waste to the hordes of darkness that surround me, so I went ahead and mastered Trainer with all my characters too. Essentially this doesn't change anything from a normal game, but considering how much pain and suffering I am dishing out without barely taking a scratch, it's totally, totally worth it.

Posted by: berskersrpretty 27th February 2006 21:40
well, I got bored seeing as I got to neo exdeath and such so I had an idea which involved my berskers so I booted up a slightly early game and turned my berserkers into nijas with berserk and gave them all double lances. wow let me tell you dong 1600 dmg x4 with everyone is absolutly amazing. also I think after I master ninja ill turn one back into a berserker and give him two axes, amy more ideas?

Day2-
had to go back to the forest to level up, but stupid animal command keeps doing nightengale when i don't need it, so I have to bust out my machete. user posted image
Got to level 27 decided to try out Liquid Flame, the battle took awhile and 2 out of 3 forms ran out of MP, i still keep getting nightengale for some reason. so i had to whittle him down with my dagger, beat him on first try.

well I'm fighting sol cannon and the battle seems to repeat, I'm now level 41 missile keeps on whittling down my hp before sol cannon used surge. Well I can't heal, because all I have left is potions. I'm out of elixers. ( haven't gotten any in a while, hoping I overlooked some.
Currently have thunderbow
Green beret
Ninja gear
Angel ring
equipped
I'm going to take a break and then start leveling up again.

Edit
went to Tycoon Castle and got 2 elixers there, that may help somewhat, but I'm still going to gaina few levels

Bares are sorta easy and hard. The easy part is that they can equip anything. The hard part to do a SCCSJC is that they dont get abilities. I might starts a SCCSJC challenge but right now i need to play WC3.Updates will come soon l>
Just in question, do you use a Game Genie code to get the class your doing a single job challenge?

I need help!

This will sound INCREDIBLY noobish but, i forget how to save a image while playing on an Emulator blush.gif i think its something to do with page but i forget biggrin.gif
Ahhh now i need the characters dead one, besides Butz but for now il just kill the rest. biggrin.gif
Oh yeah i have a Question, is someone playing this on the Super Nintendo, so no save states just normal ZSNES save points and alot of OMFG GIMME A STRESS BALL RIGHT NOW!! I'm wondering because it must be quite challenging.
NOOO i cant find a kill Faris Lenna and Galuf code! And silver lances wont work!!

Idk about the others, but I use the code that enables all job classes from the beginning (idk how else that would do it, though):

7E0840FF
7E0841FF
7E0842FF

It might even be on the first page of this thread. I know it was in some thread here, but it;s just as easy to just retype it.

Titan and brain were rather easy, byouroubos(however its spelled) involved some luck, the battle took forever, but afer five tries I beat them, luckily not a single one cast exploder on the fifth try.
Day3-
Abductor went down quick two rounds, I used SL's strategy for solo Galuf, equipped the elf cape too so I could dodge his attacks.
On ther Bridge however Gilgamesh kicks my ass, more than sol cannon did when I was level 33 with no elixers. I have two elixers, but after he casts haste shell and protect, it just goes downhill. Elf cape already helps a lot in this battle so I'm keeping it equipped, Im going to try removing my armor to boost my speed. sadly I Don't have a weapon that'll cast doom (for the Hunter). Anybody have any Ideas?

During an SSCC I just found this funny.

Edit
Still level 41, if being unequipped doesn't work I'm going back to the castle to level up (If I can)

The boost in speed gave me the win, the elf cape also doged a lot more. Only had to use one elixer, still got 1 left

Edit
Dragon Grass is pissing me off, when I use X-fight I end up killing allthe little buggers, but rarely hitting he dragon, when I use AIM i get bomboarded by the little buggers, this may be another speed batle, At least I have the killerBow now, that should help with later enemies. I love the KillerBow Dragon Grass i succeptible to Death. Sweet. all it took one two X-fights with my boosted speed.user posted image
Is that sweet or what.

Edit
Damn Atamos, I'm beginning to wonder if he is succeptible to death, but killer bow hasn't cast death on him once in seven tries. I currenty have zero weight and I only get in four round of x-fight before he repeatedly casts comet until it says annilhilated, I may just have to level up to take out this Bastard.

Edit
Just went back to a savefile before hand and went exploring, got a wall ring. Let's see how this puppy affects the battle. Also leveled up to 44

Edit
Well I can block everything but comet, Damn i hate this guy.

Edit
Lvl 46 now I deal 2000 each X-fight, adn I currently get in 4 rounds before he does me in with those damn Comets. I'm hoping he tries to cast SLow2 on me before him and it'll bounce back and hit him. Also What's the best place to level up before the tower, currently I go outside lugor bordertown and fight in the forest, however the tower gives a lot more experience, except I'm starting to run low on high potions. Atamos is giong down.

yes it would be reasonably challenging. Bare SCC is quite the challenge. For me I'm planning to do a samurai DSCC next or SSCC (DSCC Duo Single Class Challenge). I'll know after I finish this SSCC.

Garrr.... Damn Atamos even after I beat him he still manages to piss me off. This DSCC is just to easy the loss in challenge has created a loss in fun. I'm going to start over with an SSCC ninja.

Got myself a healthy stock of knives. Ninja has an easier start than Solo Hunter.

...I gave up on my blackmage and decided to see how far i get on a SSCC with a dragoon. So far dragoon is pretty easy but i might just do a Duo of dragoons like Cloud did with ninjas. Hmmmm I will solo a Mystic Knight/Sorcrer it should be pretty easy untill later on, i might also do another one as a Samurai if I get frustrated.

Posted by: Cloud_Strife510 10th July 2006 22:06
Trust me stick with solo a lot more fun than a duo.

Ifrit was a lot easier than in my solo hunter, Beat him at level 25

Same goes for Byblos.

Dragoons are really fun because there is this pretty cool glitch that sets"jump" status on you for the remainder of battle. I did it during my Dragoon SCC during some boss battles, and they couldn't hit me for the rest of the battle. I think it is done by having every available party member Jump, and then having the boss attack the absent members multiple times; I'm not really sure, but I only got it to work on bosses that attack multiple times in one turn, so that's my guess. Try it on Galura and let me know if it works.

I got it to work on Neo-Exdeath, which helped TREMENDOUSLY. Not being hit by anything helps a lot.

wth? Where do you find that thing at? 0_O;

On an Island West of Crescent, Freaked me out.

Leveled up to level 30 on the island north of crescent (1450 a pop)
no it wasn't the prototype, but it was those little black dudes.

anyways continued and beat sandworm, this pretty much sumarizes the battle

So Far Ninja SSCC has been a lot easier than Hunter SSCC, ArcheAvis went down with 5 shurikens, only had to use one elixer.

Im at level 18 on the steam ship as a Mystic Knight/Sorcrer
But i cant beat liquid flames' hand transformation since whenever i attack its always a miss! Am i doomed forever?!
Thanks now i can finally continue.
Edit
The castle was awesome, i restocked on elixers there biggrin.gif . But the commander was hard because i only had 2 minutes left on my spree.

Again thanks BFM. Whats the Magic Lamp Quest?

Posted by: Cloud_Strife510 11th July 2006 20:26
No, I maybe could've taken on liquidFlame at that level, but in my solo Hunter with a dagger from back row level 27, I didn't miss the hand (Well that might have been because I was using aim) I don't think you're doomed, people have done SCC MKnights before, you may just have to level up.

Edit
leveling up again to beat atamos, good news is I can almost deal 4000 damage with a shuriken, which would mean only five rounds, but any HP below 3,000 Atamos can kill off with comet. so i'll probably be dealing 4000 damage by the time I get 3000 HP, Ninja SSCC has been easier I'll probably be below level 60 when I beat atamos

Edit
After Reading through the whole thread I think bonemail may be the answer to my problems in Hunter SSCC, in a little bit I'm going to go back and see if i can get the Thief knife, Would help out bonemail+Thornlet.

Edit
Well I'm done for the day, got the thief knife, tried 5 times didn't get bonemail, so I leveled up to 51 on my solo ninja, now I'm going to sleep.

If you think that's hard, i'd advise not doing an SSCC with them. That's what i'm doing, and I had trouble there too. Make sure your characters aren't blinded. If they are, go back to the save point and use a tent. I must have been level 25 or so when i took him on. It took quite a few attempts, but heres the tactic:
With the tornado and human form, use Ice2 sword.
With the Hand form, use healing items and use Mute/Poison/anything that isn't elemental sword. If it's not elemental, it won't miss, but it doesn't do a great deal of damage. At least it gives you time to heal.

Posted by: Cloud_Strife510 12th July 2006 18:10
Also make sure to get doom axes during World 1, If you don't you will not be able to beat Gilgamesh with solo Galuf.

Edit
Update: Leveled up to 60, I do 4000 damage with shurikens, should be able to defeat Atamos in 5 rounds.

Edit
Crushed Atamos with my Ninja, Told you i'd make him pay.
Faris the ninja owned atamos, she didn't even need to use an elixer

Edit
Since this SSCC has been easier I'll be more of a completist;
on my list is
Magic Lamp
defeat Odin
defeat Bahamut
defeat Leviathan
All legendary weapons
Fork Tower
Beat Gogo
The only SSCC that I think can be Omega and Shinryuu would be Dragoon, which is why I've selected to do that next.

Edit
Gotten 3 out of 4 tablets, have meteo, flare, holy, beat Gogo, The piglet trio was a little annoying, forgot you had to kill them all at the same time, all it took was a bunch of thunder scrolls user posted image

The only SSCC that I think can be Omega and Shinryuu would be Dragoon, which is why I've selected to do that next.

Chemist can destroy them. It's quite possibly the most powerful class in the game.

If you don't open the chest with the Exailibur/Excalipoor, I think Gilgy doesn't appear in the N-Zone. (Because ExDeath didn't banish him there.) I could be wrong.

Posted by: footbigmike 14th July 2006 21:00
Well, i lost my FFV Mystic Knight SSCC, because i found that Prototype. As instinct, I save state at the start of every battle.
1) It was a back attack
2) It was against Prototype
3) He has a one-hit-kill attack. How do you protect against that?

Edit
Started a Summoner SCC, may do a SSCC when i finish.

SSCC Chemist sounds interesting I'll add that to my list of classes to do.

Currently I'm frustrated, I'm trying to get to Odin, I thought you were supposed to climb the furthest back wall, but that doesn't happen, and the door in the cave is sealed shut. I really wanted to beat Odin, I'll start the N-Zone.

Even at level 9, both bosses have been hard so far. I am at the Ship Graveyard, and i do not like the look of Siren at this point.

Edit
Decided to master Summoner at the beginning of Ship Graveyard.
I now have the !Conjure command, higher level (18) and mass of Elixirs (CrystlSlugs drop them).
Siren was easy, as was Magissa. Got to Walz, FINALLY got some espers, and then went to Shiva. Took out her with a couple of Sylphs, and then finished off the guards with a well timed Fat Chocobo.

Edit
Galura? Finished him off with four Shiva's and a Sylph.

Edit
LiquidFlame took a couple of tries to beat, but the interesting thing was escaping. Stocked up lots of Elixirs, and got the Guardian, a very nice dagger. Now for Ifrit and Byblos

Posted by: Cloud_Strife510 15th July 2006 19:17
Got to the invisible walkway section of the N-Zone, going to stay here for a while the ninja enemies drop magi-shurikens, I only have 18 in stock. Need at least 50 want 99.

I decided I'd try a solo-bare challenge, for the fun of it. I have no clue how far I'll get, as I'm definitely not as experienced as all of you in FFV. However...does anyone know how to make snapshots in Snes9x?

Posted by: Cloud_Strife510 15th July 2006 20:42
look on your keyboard there is a "print Screen" key after you press it your whole screen gets copied, then paste it into word, paint, whatever. Easiest way to take screenshots.

Posted by: Zeromus_X 15th July 2006 21:09
Oh, jeez, why didn't I think of that...thanks for reminding me. happy.gif

Does anyone have any advice on that Karlabos thing in the Canal? It just paralyzes me and I don't have the chance to do anything. >_>. Do I just need to level up more? There are some Bandersnatches on the land outside the canal, but I'm not strong enough (Level 12) to be dealing with them yet.) Actually, I've noticed how there's alot of 'out-of-place' monsters in the world map. huh.gif

Posted by: Cloud_Strife510 15th July 2006 21:12
Simple leveling up and potion use. In an SSCC KarlBoss will be annoying because he'll paralyze and us corkscrew, I normally level up to 15 to take him out, always use a potion first chance you can get after corkscrew, when you're level 15 he can't do much damage to yuo, so corkscrew becomes your biggest worry. It's generally in the timing of yuor potions.

Update, I love the invisible platform area the dragons drop dragonfangs frequently and they sell for a good price 2500 a pop, they'll help me buy magi-shurikens as well

BoneMail from the Dragon Mountain?

I thought the only way was to steal from necromancers.
Which I have been unsuccessful, each battle I just get revivify. In both Ninja and Hunter. Which gets boring after awhile so I start a new SSCC.

Posted by: Zeromus_X 16th July 2006 01:41
On whatever mountain where you can get Golem, there's a pile of bones. If you check them, you'll get a BoneMail. (But I don't remember what area exactly, or if it's in the third world.)

Edit: And I beat Galura...who was painfully easy with our new katana.

You can open most of the chests to find a monster-in-a-box which when defeated mostly drop elixers or a good item.
I'm going to continue on my mystic knight challenge, i'm going to lvl up to around 25 before going to the ancient library. (i can't beat Shiva! Well at my current lvl, any tips, im doing a Mystic Knight Challenge if that changes Nething besides Fire2)

Has anyone finished the White Mage challenge for FF5? I've done it for FF1 and FFT, but I haven't tried it for FF5. (In FFT, I spent some time leveling in random battles so that I could supplement my Priests with abilities from other jobs.)

Are you allowed to spend time leveling Jobs in random battles that are not on the way to where you're going? If not, then I would assume that in FF5, the single class challenge precludes the use of abilities from other classes. (In FF5, it is impossible to learn those abilities without spending some time in those classes.)

Also, does playing as the bare class (no job) count as a single class challenge? That would be challenging if you were not allowed to spend any time learning support abilities. (The normal job, by default, incorporates the support abilities of all jobs mastered.)

Posted by: Zeromus_X 16th July 2006 06:09
I haven't been changing to other jobs, no.

Edit: Any tips on Byblos? I can take him down eventually, but he keeps halving my levels so I do craptastic damage.

Posted by: Cloud_Strife510 16th July 2006 09:50
Always hated having my level halved. Besides leveling up, you could try to make your weight lighter

16 weight is pretty slow. equip some lighter armor, and shield, at least try to get below 8. Keep the ribbon and elf cape on. Take off the shield if neccessary.
