Three days until Halloween, who has their lanterns carved to share?

Here's mine for 2008:

I'm straling the photos to use them as wallpaper.
Just thought I'd let you know.
Also, what NP said.

What's with that kid's glasses? Those look like the fake plastic glasses I got from Border's when I picked up Harry Potter #5.

Grarg, the thirty-first snuck up on me. And my e-dictionary is saying snuck isn't a word. >_> At any rate, I have no pumpkin to carve, and I can't quite make out what that first pumpkin is supposed to be. I get the feeling I'm going to be shunned for such. laugh.gif

My chemistry class made chemistry related jack-o-lanterns, but I'm afraid I don't have any pictures. My group made a chlorine radical. Highlights included a glucose molecule, and 3 resonnance structures of benzene with the third having a scary face.

Ha ha ha, she's supposed to be "Where's Waldo". They do look pretty Harry Potter, though.

Can't see the spider that well, but I don't care - he took me a fraction of the time the web did.

That's pretty good, though, AO. Lot of small detail there that I probably would have screwed up. Is that from a pattern?

So disappointed that there aren't more posts. sad.gif

And PS: Totally shunning Suunok right now.

Hahaha...thanks! That's from a pattern - we got one of the kits with the little saws, etc. I'm not nearly creative enough to have thought of that myself. The last few web holes were a nail-biter though - too much more back and forth with the saw, and I would have ripped a pretty good hole in it because it was so porous.

I like yours also. laugh.gif

Here's another one from a pattern 2 years ago.

That pumpkin with pi carved into makes me wish my teachers were that cool to let us do that kinda stuff in class. It's awesome, as are all the other pumpkin pictures posted here.

Bumping this topic, only six days until Halloween. Anyone doing a carving this year?

I'm going to try something new for me, but I just got my pumpkin today and I'm not sure when and if I'll be able to do it.

Posted by: Death Penalty 27th October 2009 21:49
I've fallen real behind with, well, everything this year... I'm set to carve up a pumpkin tomorrow though. Now I just need to come up with a design...

So, sadly, I didn't get my pumpkin carved in time. However, there's still a chance I might, so if I do I will post it anyway.

In the meantime, I changed the topic so we can share our costumes as well as our pumpkins. Here are a couple from our costumes this year:

Here comes the bump again, we're just a few weeks away. I've got a costume planned to match the one my mom and I made for the baby, if I have time to put it together. I bought two great pumpkins (Charlie Brown) last weekend, but as yet I have no idea what to carve into them.

Do you guys have any plans for Halloween this year?

And, here's a photo I didn't post last year; we didn't do much as my wife was traveling for work, so the little one and I gave candy to trick-or-treaters and played with her first jack o'lantern.

Your baby is beautiful!

There's a non-profit anime / gaming convention going on in town this year for youth programs the weekend before Halloween, so I'll actually get to be Terra Branford for the holiday this year. xD After that my husband and I will be throwing on our renaissance gear for classes just to make our respective class mates nervous. We're going to get some pumpkins here soon but have no idea what to carve into them. The best part of that though, is the baked pumpkin seeds that come after the carving, and throwing on a marathon of our favorite campy horror movies, and well...Aliens. Because yes. :3

Thanks, but that photo is obviously almost a year old. She's prettier now. biggrin.gif

Yes, I too will be baking pumpkin seeds after I carve. I usually do salt and vinegar, but I might do chipotle this year.

Mmm, pumpkin seeds. Now I just have to find a pumpkin somewhere...

As usual, I am having a really hard time figuring out what to do for a costume. As usual, I expect to come up empty-handed and show up as a triathlete or something lame.

My costume is probably about to fall by the wayside since I live way out in the country and sourcing the clothing I need for it would either be really expensive to get to my house or very difficult to find semi-locally because my family's currently down to only one vehicle. sad.gif Hoping I can remedy that somehow.

Posted by: Neal 12th October 2012 20:21
I will be dressing up as Dr. Mario. I'm pretty much done with the costume at this point, which is great - I made a giant half-red-half-blue pill that can be opened. I plan on storing candy in it.

Halloween came early for us this year thanks to a mini non-profit convention down at the local anime shop and figured I'd share our costumes, unfinished though they may be. : 3

Countless 'thank yous' go to Ms. Relm Arrowny for her advice on Terra's make-up. Without her help, Terra wouldn't have looked nearly as good. heart.gif!

Well, reading this thread inspired me to do a pumpkin for the first time. So here is the effort produced by my flatmate and me this afternoon:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/t0exjeg3ed98map/2...%2016.51.16.jpg

I'll try and get a better photo taken once it's gone dark and I've got my camera handy (this was a phone pic).

Thank you, Relm! Your advice worked wonders!

Blinge, I didn't notice that until now. There was laughter. :3 Actually he's got a scottish thistle in his hands. I wish I'd gotten a better angle with the camera now.

Also, carved an awesome pumpkin today. Enjoy!

I see you're teaching your little one to appreciate companion cubes. Always start early, huh?

----

It's Halloween. Which means that there's gratuitous yellow/orange/black coloration in silly places, and lots of candy prominently displayed in supermarkets, discussions of costumes and pumpkins, and stupid jokes about monsters and the dead. Oh, and my birthday.

But there's one more thing. This site. I joined the Caves of Narshe forums around 6 AM on October 31, 2003. I finished FFVI shortly after enrolling in college, and it was a big thing for me at the time. Drove me to join two internet fora, the second of which was this. In one of my earlier experiences of staying up until crazy hours of morning, I remember joining this forum at around 6 AM, then hopping on a plane and heading back home to celebrate my birthday with my parents. The following few years, I was active at CoN, and enjoyed getting warm birthday greetings from y'all every time Halloween rolled around.

But the past few years I've been less active at CoN. Then every year, as Halloween approaches, I suddenly get this odd feeling: Hey, wait, there's this place that I've spent so much time at, whose quality of discussions is top-notch, which combines a friendly, inviting atmosphere with lots of interest in RPGs. Oh, and they give me birthday greetings if I hang out there, even though I don't really deserve any since I forgot to do that.

Despite playing RPGs less these days, I still like the genre very much (especially JRPGs; haven't much experience with WRPGs), and have fond memories of its powerful deliveries of narrative. And I still remember things like stopping FFVI just before the Floating Continent right before I graduated from high school to wait on continuing after I got into college. And I still remember the Caves of Narshe, even though I keep forgetting to hang out here.

And I still haven't fully read the "Reverse-Engineering FFVI" article that I myself linked http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/index.php?showtopic=15975 (also known as "Winter Storm Alfred" to some folks, a name whose origin I am unsure of), and this year, it's been Hurricane Sandy.

But at least it's good to see CoN still alive and kicking!

Annnnd BAM! Pumpkin time! Somehow I always end up working the evening shift on Halloween and end up missing all the kids so I always carve the pumpkin the day before. And here it is folks; this years model!

It's Majora's Mask from the Legend of Zelda! ....Apparently Majora looks like a cat or something... At any rate, kitty Majora is my first attempt at 'shading' a pumpkin so he is bound to be rough around the edges. Hope he made you smile!

That pumpkin has met with a terrible fate

Posted by: St Khael 30th October 2013 21:52
And now I'm fighting the impulse to carve 'Ben' in great big slashed letters on the back of the pumpkin. x3 Oh gaming tall tales, you make us laugh so hard.

My school's Geography and Geoinformation Science department painted a pumpkin with the continents.

I joked that I'd better see a pumpkin-shaped Earth model soon.

I saw someone out dressed as Squall on Halloween. They even had a Gunblade which I thought was awesome. Certainly didn't expect to see it in the area I live in.

Oh my gosh she's adorable.

Also nice keyboard pumpkins you got there. Can I have it?

Anyway, I'm...not doing anything particularly interesting for Halloween this year.

I have a presentation to give on election day and I'm working on that. And I have no costumes, so no cosplay for me.

(the struck-out lines are frequently-YTP'd lines from Mario Teaches Typing 2, FYI)

I would LOVE to spend the entire day marathoning Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. But I'm busy.

Last I heard, lasz was doing something like this a few days ago.

Your daughter looks wonderful! A perfect princess!

We didn't really do anything for Halloween this year either due to our recent move. I threw together a new Victorian gown but didn't get any pictures and we procrastinated on a pumpkin for too long. I was going to do something from Chrono Trigger for the beloved gourd this year but I'll save it for next. We did, however attend the local symphony last night and were treated to an hour of famous movie themes. Hearing Indiana Jones in the theater and hearing it live are wildly different experiences. The same goes for Ride of the Valkyries.

Anyhow, though, I've now been on CoN for fourteen years. Dang.

Posted by: Rangers51 2nd November 2017 15:11
I currently live in a small, enclosed subdivision that is essentially a private circular drive, so it's pretty popular with the trick-or-treat crowd. I'd say we got a good forty or so kids despite only starting to give out candy after we'd made our rounds ourselves.

Here's the kid as the aforementioned monkey.
