Generally speaking im not a big fan of umaro.
He is strong and all but the only place i like using him is in the tower of magic, and that is because enemies are quite weak to melee and he makes short work of them easily. Not only is he not very usefull in rage mode,he isn't very usefull with the crystal ball because of the ice elemental magic wich is limited to a few areas. -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars. Hmm, I remember that Umaro took some time before he grew on me. Not being able to control him sucks but then again you've still got 3 other characters in the party that can support his beastly physical attacks.

My Umaro is lvl 99 and he's a beast. I like to set him loose at the Colosseum so I don't have to worry about him casting scan and crap like that.

If you got a fire elemental place then sure bring him to kill off some tough enemies.I'd rather use terra in transformation to increase magic,or use sabim blitz bum rush for 9999 dmg -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars. He's powerful if you can afford the time to level him up. If not, you'd choose Edgar/Sabin over him anyday wouldn't you.

He also doesn't have much history behind him either. Umaro and realm are the 2 characters i least like in ff6 in fact. Realm because her stupid sketch ability is usefull up to a certain point and her greatest use is capture to learn lore faster. At least realm has a lil more backstory than umaro though as a character. All i know about him is he is in the cave guarding terrato or midgalar or whatever its called. -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars. He nice but I never use him for the tower because he can't equip espers to learn magic (and the tower is the most abundant source of magic points to gain)
I usually wait to get the paladin shield then have at least two characters learn Ultima from it, equip them with wall rings and economizers and plow my way through. |

Relm's Capture skill is very useful when paired with locke in the Dinosaur Forest. I always have her control the Brachosaur so he can't wreck your party then have locke try to steal ribbons and repeat the cycle until he grabs one. That's what I always use her for too. It's also a great way to level up. Those Bracheosaurs can kill you with Metor, otherwise, but they give lots of experience. Just control and have them fight themselves, level up, level up, level up. Outside of the Fanatic's Tower and the Colliseum, I don't have much use for Umaro. He can be decent every so often, though, so I sometimes put him in my party for the heck of it. |

I've always hated Umaro.
I can't control him, so it's almost impossible for me to overtrain him...... And.... he always ruins the party he gets stuck with. |

I think Umaro is awesome, the only thing that keeps me from using him all the time is the fact that most of the cast is awesome, so I try to give everyone some time.
Anyway, Umaro is such a BAMF he can kill people from beyond the grave. One time, my friend and I were playing and I made everyone jump using Palidor. Umaro had a death sentence on him before jumping and his soul was removed while he was in mid air (it was funny because the animation happened where Umaro should have been even though he wasn't there) The next thing we know, Umaro falls out of the sky, lands on the enemy killing it, then crumples on the ground in his spot. Since then we always think of the dead yeti attack and laugh. Good times. (I realize this could have happened with any character, but it's especially funny to drop a yeti corpse on an enemy) This post has been edited by ElPanachino on 18th September 2009 16:33 -------------------- Wha? I personally liked Umaro, because when i'm playing I always have one character that concentrates soley on attacks, and I pick the other three characters that best compliment him/her.
Using Umaro never messed up my game plan... Or maybe I'm just awsome -------------------- "You don't need a reason to help people." |

Don't have much to say about Umaro - I favor the "no encounters in the Fanatics Tower" strategy. It's cheap, but there are so many cheap tricks in the game how could I pass it up?
I'm mostly puzzled by this: Quote Umaro and realm are the 2 characters i least like in ff6 in fact. Realm because her stupid sketch ability is usefull up to a certain point and her greatest use is capture to learn lore faster. Just wanted to mention that of all the characters, Relm has the highest natural magic stat. Her special command is irrelevant in the face of the fact that she is the easiest character to make into your best spell-caster. I like Umaro for that reason as well. I find he works best (for me, anyway) in a party where 2-3 of the other members are magic-users, especially in an area with tough enemies (Fanatics' Tower, Jurassic Park, etc) or against a difficult boss. Use your magic users to not only cast offensive spells, but make it so Umaro is near indestructible - Protect, Shell/Reflect, Regen, Vanish, Haste, Reraise, Quick, etc. (Equipping Umaro with a Ribbon helps a lot as well.) Also, when the going gets tough and you need to mass-cast Arise and/or Curaga (or any other supporting spells - Esuna, Hastega, etc.), it's good to have a way to consistently do damage while everyone else regroups. -------------------- |
