Caves of Narshe Forums > Final Fantasy VI > Anyone getting FF6 iOS Ver?

Posted by: Roxas20 7th January 2014 00:20
Will anyone be buying the newly remade FF6 for iPhone/iPad/Droid? I've seen the screenshots and Terra's new sprite render looks a little creepy-sad-face looking. I'm still going to get it in hopes of the Dragon's Den and Soul Shrine. Will anyone else be doing the same when and if we get a release date?

I currently have the gba version on my iPad but I'm excited to see the new version of it for the official ios

I'd like to try it, but honestly, I have ways of playing it already that I like just fine, and they don't have the sprite updates that I don't really care for. Knowing what it will cost, I have a hard time getting excited about it at all.

Ugh, you're right. I didn't realize they already released a promo video, and just took a look. Seems they decided to go the FF5 ugly sprite route instead of a full on 3D remake. Should have figured as much given the rushed timeline, but with the surprising release of The After Years as 3D on mobile, I held out some hope.

I might still check it out if it has all the added features of the GBA version, because I've never experienced that. But having just played through the PS version of the game, I think I might save my money and try something else.

I'm thinking about it considering its by far my favorite out of the series, but looking at the videos has me waiting for reviews before I decide. I hope it works out well, though, some gaming nostalgia is always good for the soul.

I'm enjoying it so far. It's not the original sprites, but it's a darn better version of the GBA port. Plus we have achievements, too.

No way.

Bought it and am enjoying it, its actually the SNES remake with some of the fixes ( as far as I can tell) like Gau no merit award, Dont have merit award but im assuming, the GBA extras, Veldt you can do the save manipulation to some extent, it skips by 10 i believe usually.

Also no auto sprint. Relic tongue.gif

I agree with the other people who have played this...this is a real good remake. It seems sensationalist headlines scared us into having a negative opinion about the game before it was released.

I am not a fan of the Art Style but to be honest it is true to the art style that was officially released at the time. The sprites are copies of what some of the official art work looked like at that time. It seems though they have finally decided to push an 'anime' style to the game.

The game feels more fluid and Cyan's skill has completely improved. My only problem thus far is the clunk controls. Unlike the other Square games your movement is limited what is werid since Chrono Trigger you pushed to move and this one you'll find yourself going to places you do not want to.

The remodel of the world map castles makes since for Figaro but not Doma. The World Map Castle for Figaro is literally a 3D version of the castle...issue is Doma borrows from that as well....

The Japanese Censorship is back from the GBA scene with the beating scene being removed, again. The script is less censored however but as of now the FFA version of FF6 is the most uncensored version though it is also the most broken version.

Right now overall, this version is the definite version to buy.

The controls are horrible and I wish I had a separate controller. I've reloaded my save before 1.39: The Imperial Palace a dozen times and it seems impossible to talk to every soldier. However, they must have changed the point scale. I had 83 out of 93 points, but still got all of the rewards.

Overall this is an excellent remake. The new sprites were a bit odd at first, but now I'm fine with it.

I've heard enough good things about this remake that I'll eventually pick it up, just not now. I'm most interested in experiencing the new translation and new dungeons. The sprites still look ugly to me, even after seeing video of gameplay, but since I don't have a GBA this is really my only option for trying out the new additions to the game.

The spirtes are literal anime copies of the offical art works you used to see on ff fan sites back in the mid 90s.

Playing it...it does bring back a lot of good memories. I am enjoying this game and I find the revised translation better then the GBA version what ruined it for me.

Lovin' this game. I have just today entered the Magiteck Factory. I haven't been able to play it that much, so haven't got that far. I realy Like Cyan's Bushido, but with Sabin i am allways accidently doing the wrong skill. Gau is proven to be as powerfull as ever in my opinon, i have just been spamming that rage that lets him use GigaVolt. I can't wait to be able to use Setzer!

I picked it up for the Droid. It's pretty much. The translation is from the GBA version. The graphics are a bit weird. It's very crisp/clean looking 2D, but the characters look too similar. They don't have as much personality as they did on the SNES.

But it's probably better they redid it rather than taking the old SNES sprites.

I have it and kind of like it. I mean, I still love the original sprites. I always will, but some of the new ones are really cute, too. I love Sabin's and Gau's updated sprites and some of the other ones are growing on me. Gameplay-wise, it kind of hurts my wrist to use my finger all the time to move the characters. I do like the updated gameplay for Sabin's blitzes though.
I'll still be playing the PS version on my PSP though. wink.gif Not giving that one up for anything. LOL

I saw the beating scene in the iOS version so I don't know what you mean by it being removed in it. You mean the scene where the soldiers beat Celes while she's being held captive, right?

Playing it now a bit.

Some of the graphics actually look awesome; some of the battle backgrounds are super detailed and gorgeously done.

Cyan's special skill (Bushido) is better, as is Sabin's, though it seems to lag slightly on my phone. Terra's Trance seems to last longer than before, so that's a plus.

I haven't seen any desperation attacks? Which is weird.

There are a few things that bug me though:
Celes' concept art outfit and her sprite outfit do not match yet that stupid FMV had her in the leather getup... Seriously, the green swimsuit/cape look is SO weird.
Leo is still blackish... can't be that hard to pick a color.
At some point they changed the opera lyrics, making that part harder for me, who played it a bunch on PSX and SNES.
The controls are awful! I don't mind on the overworld, moving extra steps/swiping where I want to go, but there are several puzzle-based mini-games where exact stepping in good time are absolutely necessary and they're just not as fluid or easy. When Banon and the Gang split up to go to Narshe, the security check point; The Sealed Cave; talking to the soldiers in Vector; I think it's Gogo's cave. All of these are making you doomed to mess up a lot.
There are these, what's the word, icons? Designs? All over Vector area that, I always though were three roses or something. The black design on red. You'd think that with updated graphics, they'd have made them more detailed, instead, they look like Rorschach spilled his ink and rolled with it. It looks stupid.
Celes' runic totally, totally sucks now: instead of absorbing all spells and making her this total boss with free MP absorbing skills, she absorbs ONE spell per turn, that's it. Wtf?
Some of the graphics actually look more JPEG-ey than before, and that angers me. Like really, it's 2014 and you want to remake a game that's 20 years old and that's what you're giving us?
Kind of wish the music was mixed better. It's ok, but it's not particularly mixed in a flattering way.
The interface is sometimes counter-intuitive. Like in battle, if you want to heal someone you can either A, touch their sprite, or B, click on their name in the menu that pops up. But in the menu screen, if you want to edit someone's equipment, you can only do option B, even though their faces are right there and in the old games, the hovering gloved hand was generally near their faces.

Ok, gonna stop now before it turns out into a novel. The game is ok, very bright, and I just wish they'd either innovated a bit more, or else just left it as is.
