Quote Please note that this thread is 100% Josh approved. Have you ever wanted to extend the story of Final Fantasy Tactics? What might happen after the ending FMV? Or have you ever wanted to see your created generic character interact with major NPCs? Here is your chance. On April 1st, at Heroes of Ivalice, a new affiliate of CoN, we will launch the grand opening of our online roleplaying simulation for Final Fantasy Tactics. Our staff is pleased to present an engaging storyline, over 500 unique quests, new NPCs, and a battle system styled after (but not exactly matching) the video game. Will glory and honor await you? Or will you manipulate strings behind the scenes? Either way, we welcome you to the post Lion War Ivalice... This post has been edited by Kairo on 2nd March 2005 19:48 |

LOL, also note that while I did not yet add them to the list or make an announcement of it, they are indeed a CoN affiliate.

We're doing this out of free time and sheer love for the game. And yeah, April 1st is a little bit away, but we've still got 2% of our development finishing up. In the meantime, I encourage anyone interested to read up on our rules and ask questions if you have any. |

Well I'm full of questions.
What kind of system requirements are there for this game? Will you post a link to the main page (and not just the forums) on this thread come time of completion? How many hours will I find myself indulged in this game? -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

This isn't a downloaded client sort of game, like any MMORPGs you may have played. The game is completely played on the forum. We have not the programming strength to make the fancy 3D games that you all hear of these days.
As for the level of indulgence, it's more or less your choice. Do you want to be involved or not? Do you just want to bust some heads with great stats or control even more than the battlefield behind the scenes? This is the expansive options that roleplaying gives ya. Then again, if roleplaying isn't your thing, you can still roll-play. -------------------- The mighty number cruncher of HoI! |

Yeah, Kaz nailed this pretty much on the head here. The game is entirely done on the forums. It's text supplemented with graphics. The game has been in development for a little over 2 years and has been refined too many times to count. We're all excited about the launch and believe that there will be many people worldwide playing the game.

Maybe I'm slightly confused, it is played entirely on the forums... but text will be used as well which is understandable. Are there any screen shots from test play by chance? I was looking at the forums there but I got lost... oops.

I'm SO tempted, but I'm involved in enough RPing as it is, not to mention life... Curses... Best of luck with it, though!

Not really much to go in the way of screenshots...that is, unless you want to see what the skirmishes would look like. Here's the one that I ran: http://hoi.outboxes.com/viewtopic.php?t=170&start=0 So yeah, it's basically like a text adventure with Role Playing. Think of it like D&D, just better and somewhat less confusing (for the player, anyway). And I know that the game has a very steep learning curve. But also keep in mind that we, the staff over at HoI, are (for the most part) a very patient lot and will take to it to answering whatever questions that you may have. Perigryn, I know what you're talking about. HoI was the last sim that I could get involved in. Too many...too many... |

Feel free to sign up now and read the rules for character creation. It's a bit different than the video game and as Lionheart mentioned, it's got a somewhat steep learning curve for people who've never played in a sim before. We'll help as much as we can in answering any questions you may have.

It looks excellent, very well devised. I'd join in a second if I'd ever been able to play FFT.

You're welcome to play even if you haven't played the video game. Many of the players we've already talked to from other sims have no FFT experience, but look forward to playing nontheless.
Oh, and yes, I chose April Fools for the launch date about 5 months ago. It started as a joke since we felt we had a long ways to go in development. Turns out that we got our act together enough to be able to actually make that date. |

Thanks. As sort of an update, we're beginning to do Campaign Battle Beta Testing (which is the last piece of development remaining). So if anyone is interested in seeing how the large scale wars are fought, you can check it out.

Umm... I'd like to join, but since my internet is... well.... not exactly mine at the moment (I use school, firend's, etc) I probobly wouldn't be on as much as I'd like to. Still, if permitted (And if my account won't be left in the dust once anything big happens) I'll gladly sign up ^-^
BTW: This sounds like a great idea, I don't know a whole lot about forums but I'd like to help in anyway possible. If you have any questions about the game, and how to create a character, I can help guide you through it step by step. Let me know if you need some help.
Also, I'd like to thank Josh for his nice comments about us at FFGurus.net . We're hopefully gonna get a small mention at RPGamer.com in their fanfiction update as well. This post has been edited by Kairo on 15th March 2005 14:10 |

I'd also like to add that I'm available every day, almost all day, on the HoI forums. If you have any questions, feel free to PM any of the staff over there, we're always glad to be of assistance. I'd say Kairo and I are usually around the most, as are a couple other staff members, but they don't quite make their presences known as much. Also, if you have any questions, feel free to post them here, and we'll be glad to answer them as we can.

This sounds really exciting. I'd love to join, except that I've never played Tactics before. However, I've played Tactics Advance before...would I have enough of an idea to learn as I play?

Tactics Advance is just fine as far as experience goes. Honestly, you don't need any Final Fantasy experience to play, as Kairo said, we have many players who have joined from sims that are completely unrelated to FFT. The only thing I'll say for experience is that I believe your time at HoI will be greatly enhanced if you know the FFT storyline, as you'll already be familiar with the characters that we have, the cities, the whole idea behind it. If not, it's no big deal, I just think it's a bit more nostalgic if you've played. With that said, HoI is seperate from the game, and runs independant and quite unique from the original FFT storyline, as HoI takes place 7 years after the Lion War.

I was reading through a lot of posts to get a general idea of how to play. However, there is just one thing that I have to ask. Come time when everything is ready (April 1st), do we post on the Character Creation thread that we want to start a charcter? Then you roll all the stats based on our primary class, squire/chemist choice etc... and then you'll pm the players with their stats?

You'll post your name, age, Class Path and Primary Class in the Character Creation thread.
In response, I'll roll your character, including JP, and post it, along with 5 randomly determined questions. Then you'll post again in the Character Creation thread with the staff post in quotes. Your new post will have your answers to the 5 questions, along with any abilities you purchased with your JP. Then I'll post your final stats based on this. You can then take that info, and post it in the Free Officer thread so kingdom rulers can contact you about hiring you. |

I find HoI to be evry interesting. I signed up, and am looking forward to the April 1 start-date. You'd more than likely get some notoriety if you can fish your ideas to Square-Enix about making it into a console game. Just a passing thought...

Heh, thanks for the support Freebird. I doubt Square Enix would pay much attention to me, but I guess you never know....
Anyways, I've posted the second preview to Heroes of Ivalice in the Ivalice HQ board. It's the first part of the storyline for the game. Feel free to parouse it if you wish to mesh your character's history with the storyline. |
