Ok, not sure if this is just in the DoS version or not. But after getting the airship, I went over to the little islands and began looking for bahamut and changed class. Found him, no biggie, but then I went to this Fire Cavern that had the barrier disappear after beating the Fire Fiend. I walk in and I am back in a lava-like level and I can't get out.

I explore it, kill a bunch of enemies(kinda weak), get some items, and I get to the last part(I think). Well I have two choices it seems, two doors to different rooms. When I walked in one, I have to fight Cagnazzo(who just washes my guys away with Tsunami) or Scarmiglion(or some nonsense who has this disgustingly strong poison attack). If I recall these guys are from FF4 I think. Did anyone else do this part?

I am getting whomped by these two bosses, I will be trying again today, but man I am not too happy about this... Should I perhaps get back to leveling up a bit, all the enemies seem like a walk in the park though, even the bosses before these two.

Help Please!!! wacko.gif

***Update!

I beat that Cagnazzo guy, and now it led me to 3 more levels of exploring. The environment is lavalike, not sure if anyone knows what I mean.

Well it led me to this other part with 2 rooms again! Now, I have a choice of fighting Rubicante or that lady that rides the whirlwind. I chose Rubicante, mostly because I had an item that gives me resistance to flame attacks, so took him on. Tough fight, but I won eventually, he kept killing one of my two magic users every few round with physical attacks. But after beating him, he gave me a Ribbon and a treasure chest that he was guarding had the sword Kikuichimonji, a sword that has a good increase in my Knight's attacks.

It then allowed me to leave the whole dungeon, which I did, I do plan to return however. Anyone else had to deal with this?

First, don't double post. There's an edit button, which i'm sure R51 will teach you about.

Yes. these are special dungeons introduced in the DoS version off FF1. There are four of them, one open after each fiend you defeat, and each contain bosses from latter Final Fantasy games. Earthgift Shrine has FF3 bosses, Hellfire Chasm has FF4 bosses, Whirlpool something has FFV bosses (That's myfavourite dungeon) and Whisperwind Cove has FF6 bosses. There are 4 bosses in each one, and sometimes you have to go through multiple timees in order to beat all the bosses.

Each dungeon holds awesome weapons and items, which makes them worth it, but they are long dungeons. The one you just went in, IIRC only has 10 floors. The last one has 40.

Thanks much, sorry for the double post, I didn't see the edit button because I wasn't logged in when I hit the reply button. Then it asked for log in.

Yes, that dungeon was pretty long, but it was pretty neat, the regular enemies are kind of weak though, and they were more like an annoyance than anything else. I think that is a cool little feature for the DoS version, I knew I didn't remember it from FF1 on NES. cool.gif

Thanks much, now I need to go back and find the other shrines.

Earth is by Chaos Shrine *Five floors, 4 times through, easy late in the game*

Fire is on the dragon islands *Ten floors, 2 times through*

Water is in the whrilpool *20 Floors, 2 times through, Make sure you have charaters with max hit points and use giant potions for Omega and Shiryu*

Wind is in the river system by the Fire grotto thing *40 floors, one time though, easier then Water, ULTIMA WEAPON*Knight Sword* strenth depends on you're health, so it hits in the 1000s when Healthy biggrin.gif *

Hope this helps wink.gif !

Ok, so I am doing the water one... I cannot beat either Omega or Shinryu. I have Hi-Potions, and can keep my ground for only so long before I run out of MP, sometimes I forget to give my white mage some MP...

Does anyone have any clue what works best on Shinryu and Omega? Omega does not seem to be hurt by physical attacks, mostly magical. It also seems that NullAll has no effect on the spells that Shinryu casts, one time he casted Flare 3 times in a row... That is quite nasty! BTW I am only level 53, do you think that is high enough? I am kind of interested in their HP that they have so I have some clue as to if I am even putting a dent in them!

The easiest way to beat every single boss in the game is to Haste/Temper/Saber the hell out of your strongest fighter and have him keep on the offensive while your other three party members focus on survival and continuing to boost up your attacker. That's how I beat every single boss in DoS, once I had the appropriate spells. Too easy.

Have your Black or Red Wizard cast Thundaga or use the Judgement Staff on them. And yeah, heal and buff your party like laszlow said. You may want to consider leveling up, which isn't hard at all given the crazy amount of experience you get from battles in the bonus dungeons. You can level up every few battles, so it won't take long.

If you're anal-retentive, you can play the dungeons as many times as you want to collect the bosses' bonus items and to gain levels.

I beat Shinryu yesterday finally. In fact, it was the try right after I typed my plea for help.

I used Haste/Temper combo, and I couldn't use Saber, it only works on the owner of the spell.

The bonus dungeons give very little experience compared to the Shrine that Chaos is located in when you go back in time. I am leveling up in there right now, up to like 74. I will be going back to destroy the other bosses later. That Ragnarok is disgustingly strong though!

Huh? No, the Whisperwind Cove should give you the best experience. The monsters there are tougher than any of the monsters in the Chaos Temple.

And you have to use the Giant's Gloves to cast Saber. I can't remember if it has to be equipped in this version, of all the other things they changed...

Spell-casting items do not need to be equipped. Simply select "item" while in battle.

Whoa, you're challanging them at THAT Level?

Some tips for Omega & Shinryu:

Omega always going to attack first, so keep that White Mage healing everyone (I hope you have one...)

Have everyone else heal, use Haste Saber and Temper, and use Giant Tonics on anyone who does not have 999 Hit points (This helped me alot)

Omega=Physical | Shinryu=Magic

Shinryu has low defense for a boss. Smack Him around.

Omega's Weak to Thunder, so have you're Wizards Zap!

Compared to Shinryu, Omega has Mighty defense. Expect a long battle

If you really can't beat Either one, level up... alot.

If you do scroll back a bit, I did just beat Shinryu, but Omega is harder to me. I will be going back to defeat him.

Curious, after I beat the game, will it allow me to explore post-defeating Chaos? Or do I have to do all the exploring before?

The game will just end. There is no 'clear' mark on your file or anything like that. (I don't believe. It's been awhile...)

After you beat the game, you save a new file that keeps your bestiary. OH! And you get a gold star next to the file number. Seriously. blink.gif

I beat the game last month, but I haven't beaten all the optional bosses yet. I wasn't sure were the bosses from the Earthgift Shrine came from, but a Ahriman(sp?) was a boss in FF3? That's pretty funny. laugh.gif

Oh, my mistake. I haven't played it in a long time.

Yep, the final bosses from FFIII, the fiends from FFIV, Gilgamesh, Atomos, Shinryuu, and Omega from V, and Phantom Train, Orthros, Typhon, and Doom Gaze from FFVI. Pretty awesome.
