While some websites saw jokes about Final Fantasy VIII go too far over the years, there's one thing that nobody can question about that game: Liberi Fatali is the best-known music that game has. It's got that chorus of voices chanting faux Latin (and then real Latin!), and the angry drums of war beneath soaring fanfare. This is a track made for Distant Worlds, where it's been in rotation for many years. Liberi Fatali won a round last time before falling into the pit of Terra's Theme in round two.

Only one chocobo theme made it into the brackets, which is a little shocking; however, none made it in for 2010, so at least this is an improvement! If one were to pick just a single theme to represent chocobos, Techno is a good one to go with; the oddball siren-like synth on the bridge definitely makes it distinctive.

As far as Chocobo themes go I'd rather with the serenity of FFIX's Aloha de Chocobo (which I personally nominated) or FFVII's rad Electric de Chocobo or the more classic-sounding FFV's Go Go Boco!. Unfortunately, Techno de Chocobo isn't one of my faves, doesn't really match the game it's from in my opinion, and for that matter it doesn't even show up in FFVI unless you go out of your way to find it. Aside from its in-game use, I just feel that the siren and the low-pitched voice sample (or whatever that is) just don't really work very well.

Even though I've never heard Liberi Fatali in-game (in fact I don't think I've heard Techno de Chocobo in-game either considering that I never went out of my way to get a Chocobo in FF6, as felt the Mode 7 display for ground transportation was a bit awkward anyway), I still think that's the better track in this matchup.

(In fact I'd say I might like Liberi Fatali more than One-Winged Angel. But we'll get to that matchup when the time comes.)
