To me, those random battles are harder then most of the important battles. Who do you all think is the toughest enemy you encounter in random battles? For me it is those damn Chocobos. I hate how those yellow ones always heal themselves and other enemies and those damn red and purple ones allows cause high damage from long distance.

Unless your levels are really low, and you' re thinking of specific story battles, the random battles _should_ be more difficult than story battles because random monsters level up along with your characters.  But anyway, I hate red chocobos the most, just because they're fast, have good movement, and Choco Meteor is powerful and has huge range.  Grr.

I think the hardest random battle monster is Sr. Behemoth and this is speaking when you first start fighting him.

Red chocobos are nothing, just have on "Magic Defense UP" and Shell and their cheesy meteors should only do about 100-150 points of damage.

yeah because its prudent to waste your support slot just because you're fighting a random battle that MIGHT have chocobos...

i agree that red chocobos are the most difficult enemies in the game.  next would ahve to be those annoying mindflayers or perhaps the minotaurs.  it takes so long to kill them and they can kill a weak character in 1 hit.

Alright....if you go down to Finath River coming from Bervenia Free City, you will encounter a really tough battle having 6 red chocobos, 2 black chocobos, an archer, a dragon, and 2 mindflares.  So it is not a waste having Magic Defense UP as your support skill.  Not only that, in the same battle there will be like 2 blue dragons so that gives you another reason to have that on.  Yeah, I hate those Minotaurs, just have on Blade Grasp and they won't be able to do their cheesy Wave Arounds.  Red Chocobos aren't hard at all.....Tiamats and Dark Behemoths are...1-2 hits from them and you are as good as dead.  Tiamats are rare though, you'll only see them at Barius Hill coming from Zaland Fort City, that water place coming from Goland Execution Site, and END.

well the hardest human battle is the one in those woods you
find Boco in, once i got in random encounter where i had to
fight like 10 male ninjas and ONE female ninja, it was so hard
cause they all come up and throw rune blades and magic shrukians(sp?) at you..

the hardest monster i think would have to be the dark bethemoths,
their power is just too great, sudden cry did nearly 800 damage
to my guy which is like double the HP that he has.

Yeah I remember that Ninja battle, but I haven't lost to them in years.  They were pretty tough, because there were a lot of them and they were strong and fast, but they weren't hard to take out though.

The hardest random battle I ever fought was 4 Red Chocobos, 2 Black (they're black not purple) Chocobos, 1 Yellow Chocobo, and 2 Mind Flares. I'm not even sure if i won that fight.

That battle is at Finath River coming from Bervenia Free City and it's not that hard to me.  Just bring a few tough characters that can do a lot of physical damage, have on the Magic Ring, Autp-Potion reaction ability, and Magic Defense UP (to lessen the damage of choco meteors) reaction ability and you should be fine.     Good luck!

i think the knights are hard they kill me wth in 1 hit.

That's not right...they are not suppose to kill in one hit unless your unit has REALLY low HP or the Knight made a critical hit.  Random battle Knights only do about 250-350 points of damage.  Tiamats and Hydras are hard as they can kill in 1-2 hits and they are fast and high HP.

anyways iirc i once fought a random battle against 5 gun wielders, i think they were mediators, and they had some odd guns, i think that was the only random battle i had much trouble with. other than that... DAMN YOU VELIUS!!

oh i think i know what you're talking about, its that place at
the very east side of the map. they were mediators with either
elemental guns or stone guns. mediators with guns like..

blaze gun = ice elemental damage
blast gun = lightning elemental damage
?? gun = fire elemental damage (forgot name, arggh!!)
stone gun = adds petrify

but to make that battle much easier just equip something on
your party that cancels petrify when you go by there again.

Good question.  I personally hate most varieties of those squid-head monsters at higher levels, simply because Confuse status is evil.  What use are my high-level characters if all they do is stab each other?

I'll hop on the bandwagon and say that Red Chocobos are pretty tough for me, as well.  Choco Meteor is an annoying attack, and their wide movement range gives them ample opportunity to use it.

I would have to say that by far the toughest enemy is Weigraf when you must dual him, then fight him as that beastie. That is a horrable battle. Ive beaten the game about 9 times now, and everytime i fight him, no matter how powerful i am, it always takes a few tries and some altering of my abilities to get a good combination in order to pwn his a$$.

But as far as normal enemies, i hate summoners earlier in the game, they can just devistate you. And those Chocobos are from the deepest pits of hell for sure. Devil Birds. I dispise the pure Chocobo battles. Yellow are the worst, but when combined with red ones can spell trouble.

Well, I've only gotten as far as the battle with Velius, so I would have to say Velius .  Bastard keeps kicking my ass.

Yeah if you're not prepared that battle with Velius can be tough, and plus, those gargoyle looking dudes are backing him up.  You know who else is tough?  The Mindflare guys. Especially in the 2nd chapter where you don't even have Magic Rings.  It can get annoying.

The toughest I've come across so far is Gafgarion when Ramza had to fight him on his own. The problem probably was that I wanted to steal the Ancient Sword from him, and couldn't corner him. Plus, Ramza kept dying and no one could help, because he was too far away from the gate. Ancient Sword was worth it, though.

Oh well, probably would have been harder because of the horde outside. I wouldn't have been able to spare a fighter just to corner Gafgarion.

I'd have to say any of the two later fights with Gafgargion. THe execution site took me weeks, no really.  The next fight was a little easier (thank you auto-potion)

Velius drove me insane, and of course I didn't make a second save.   I told my bro to, and it saved his hide, he did some 'power leveling' and should fight him later today.

But of course the toughest fight is the one you can't win right?  That would be when you meet the...other engineer in the end of the game.  Orlandu gets killed, he heals with every move, Meladoul can't break his stuff before getting killed.  Agrias doesn't have the punch to do well and Ramza's a joke.  That's when I retired from this game.  Besides, I was getting scars on my fingertips...

Oh and Red chocobos are the bane of my existance.  In this game at least.
