I think Kane makes a really excellent point.

The majority of people who come here have been here a long time. This isn't a place where people flood into by the tens of thousands, and I think I can accurately say that most of us prefer it that way.

I'm glad that when I make a topic, I don't have to swim through seas of trolling and illegible comments to get my answer. Quality, not quantity.
Fact is, I can't think of a single time that I've asked a question and gotten some answer like, 'OMG THAT BAWS IS 1337 & ÜBER HRD DeWD TUTS MAH BARREH!!!!¡¡¡¡'
Seriously, just like Kane said, if we wanted that crap then we wouldn't have left dozens of other sites only to come back here.

Another thing you have to consider is that many of us who have been around awhile, joined this site when we were teenagers, and are now in our mid twenties. Many of us have work/careers/school/wives/children/etc. and just get on here for some intelligent discussion about video games, or in my case anything else, since I haven't had time for a video game in the last two years.

Point being, many (if not most) of us like CoN the way it is, and aren't interested in an army of people staggering in here flooding the boards with leet speak and every form of trolling known to man.

Don't worry, you shan't start a site war. We barely have the energy to keep our own site going, we certainly have no interest in dealing with yours at an institutional level, at least in that way. I will say, though, that you could have very easily left this in chat and avoided a lot of these responses.

It is easier for me to build up my arguments on a forum than instant chat. I think what really ticked me off at first is that both sites (yours and mine) have completely different goals and concepts; your site is about FF/Squenix coverage, while my site is about our tribute to retro gaming. So, I really didn't feel comfortable with either yourself or footbigmike criticizing my site's name and "lack of content" (the content we had so far was moved to another server at the time, and we're still publishing articles), when the same could have been said about anything being original about your site's name, or the shortage of SquareEnix games covered in the last 13 years.

But yes, MegaGaming is still under construction; we only have several people posting a review or article from time to time. However, I am the only one doing most of the work around here, customizing our own layout (without borrowing a pre-generated one). I will admit, I do not have that many years of Web experience as you do. But to me, content always should be the main priority of a site. That's just my opinion.

You must have been quite irate to take a conversation that happened, in IRC, a month ago or more, between you and one person that you call out by name, and turn it into an angry forum-based discussion. You obviously were irate enough that you wanted to make a big, public deal of it in front of dozens of readers that had no idea what was going on in the first place. I don't see why putting on this show really helped you at all.

The reason why it took me that long to respond was because I had a really busy schedule with my school and work. So whenever I had some free time, I would sit down and draft my post. The problem is that because one of your staff members initiated this, I set the crosshair on this site's entire current staff team (but especially you, the owner) by asking the differences between Caves of Narshe and MegaGaming, when both sites are no more original than the other. Final Fantasy fan sites are overdone to the point where it gets so overwhelming (and most of them really suck; I've been around when GeoCities was a breath of fresh air to many), but so are retro gaming sites.

Fair enough. Since I'm the person who named this site, though, and I don't recall saying anything at all about the name of your site, you're misdirecting your anger by asking me, "the founder of CoN, the exact same questions." The opinions of my staff or my chatters or my forum posters are not necessarily the opinions of the site, and by not drawing that distinction, you are in error.

Sure, opinions are fine; but it was the personal attack of my site that I was not happy with in the first place. And, staff members are responsible for representing the sites they work with. If they attack someone else's site in an egotistical or negative way, then not only are they getting themselves in trouble, but the rest of the site's staff members.

Groups and companies should be responsible for the offensive actions of one of their own, because you work as a team. If one of my staff members joined your community or chatroom, and made offensive remarks about your site (even without being reasonable about it), then I would be in the same hot spot as you. I know that one of my allies would be getting ME in trouble, and everyone else that works with me on my project. However, maybe this situation would have been different if footbigmike tried to contact me outside of CoN, but not in your site's official IRC channel. Going there and reading his very smug greeting was like stepping into a den of lions. That's not fair.

Plus, I know I said I laughed at the forum software you use, but I did kindly apologize, because I was not aware. I offered a few suggestions, though you did not consider them (except for maybe the scrolling spoilers tag). Fair enough; I am not forcing anyone to change their things.

Believe me, we agonized for a while about whether to add it. For a while, it was actually going to be the third game we covered after FF4 and FF6, in fact. That would put discussions on the topic all the way back to 2001. I doubt there'd be any question why we had done it if we'd done it then. The reason that we finally did it in the end was that despite being a non-FF title, it absolutely is among Squenix' best work, and it has the very same feeling of nostalgia that the very best Final Fantasies provide to a great many fans.

First, Chrono Trigger is the best RPG you have on your site. Second, my response to SilverMaduin was in a way to say that games like Mystic Quest (if you and your staff liked it enough to want to feature it too) are potential games to feature on your site, because Chrono Trigger made it in.

Just a few brief points here: one, I never considered it a fight at all, and I believe you said that you were directing your original post at me. Perhaps it's the fact that you considered it a fight that made so many people treat you harshly in this thread. Additionally, from everything I've heard, you're still in your mid-teens, so I'd rather not risk the fines for taking you to a bar (which reminds me, you never did explain how you'd been in the web business for so long at your age). Finally, I don't drink on anyone's tab anyway. smile.gif

"Fight", "debate", whatever this thing was/is. I am not very good with choosing the right words, anyway. And, I am not 15 years old (I just did it as a prank). Plus, I will be 21 next year. Until then, we should go to Canada and drink there. smile.gif

Actually, that's not the main subject of this thread. I was just talking about CoN as a fan site (non-forums). But if you feel good about being in this place, then continue to do so. smile.gif

Allen, you need to let this go. All you're managing to do is make yourself seem petty. You aren't achieving anything with this deluge of posts trying to take offense with Caves of Narshe. The fact that my name even came up in this thread is very embarrassing to me due to the sheer amount of temper tantrum this entire thread conveys. You're upset because they took jabs at Megagaming. Instead of just focusing on generating quality until people can't bash it anymore like I have suggested, you've instead gone on the offensive in a wholly pointless argument.

I do not support you in this. Be a bigger man and let it go.
