I was just wondering if anyone would like to know the alternative methods of this glitch, involving morphing, stealing and throwing, and whether they should be added to the 'Misc. Secrets' section.
Basically if anyone is intersted I'll edit this post to include some awesome guideines to each one, plus a little bonus for those hard-to-get magic sources. Well, since I've had a request here comes the guide! This Guide may contain spoilers, continue at your own risk Basically if you understand the W-Item Duplication Trick then this is just a slightly more tricky and innovative method of getting items by combining the use of W-Item's ability to duplicate items with basic functions of the Morph, Steal and Throw materia. Using these materia you can obtain an infinite amount of many of the games items; however with a little luck I'll also explain how to get an infinite number of almost any item! W-Item Duplication - Extended version To make things go more smoothly with all these processes you should change your battle setting to wait, but a high speed doesn't hinder you(I always play on fastest). All of these techniques involve you *throwing away* any battle-useable item. I usually just go and buy one of each of the status healing items and potions; you can also use some guff magic items like Grenade or Deadly Waste if you never use them. You should always have one of these items at the top of your item list. You must not already have any of the item you wish to morph in your inventory when doing this trick, since the morphed item has to take the place of a discarded item. Morphing This method should be used when combining the Morph materia with the duplication trick, mainly used for obtaining sources. Prerequisites To do this one you need a (very)short list of things:
Well to start with this is the best way in the game to obtain Sources, since you can easily get 99 of each one in no time at all. I'll use Screamers for this example, since this is where I first discovered this glitch(and I did discover this personally, when I was 6 years old ). Method
Enemy locations for useful Morphs Power Source: - Screamers; Mt. Nibel Guard Source: - Bagnadrana; Mt. Corel, Corel Area, Corel Reactor - Spiral; Southern Islands Magic Source: - 8-Eye; Battle Square *see 'Alternate Tactics'_Battle Square*, - Unknown 3, Gelnika *see 'Alternative Tactics'_One Enemy* Mind Source: - Serpent; Gelnika *see 'Alternative Tactics'_One Enemy* Speed Source: - Poodler; Gelnika Luck Source: - Bap Rap; Gelnika Ribbon: - Master Tonberry; Northern Cave *see 'Alternative Tactics'_One Enemy* Protect Ring: -Mover; Northern Cave Tetra Elemental: -Cactuer; Cactus Island, North Corel Area *see 'Alternative Tactics'_One Enemy* Escort Guard: -Iron Man; Inside the Planet(not really that useful since you can't go back from this area) *see 'Alternative Tactics'_One Enemy* Alternate Tactics In some of the cases above you can't use the standard method. In the case of 8-Eye you must encounter it in Battle square with only one character since The Temple Of the Ancients is gone by the time you have Morph Materia. With Serpent you can only encounter one at a time since Dragon Riders only appear by themselves in a one-time area where you don't have Morph or by themselves in Battle Square(no point in adding two problems together) and Killbin can only be encountered in a one-time area as well. Battle Square: Since this will be mainly used for 8-Eye battles, that's the example I'll use. To do this you must have one character with W-Item and a Couter=Morph pairing, Counter should preferably be a low level so you don't kill the other 8-Eye or you could follow my earlier advice and have the battle setting on Wait so you can have Counter Mastered. - Enter Battle Square with one character, I use Yuffie because of Conformer. - Hopefully you will randomly get an 8-Eye battle, which is 2x 8-Eye. Here we go. - Simply hover over W-Item with your discardable item at the top of your list and wait for one 8-Eye to attack. - If both attack you hopefully only one will be Countered, if not then bad luck, you only get two sources. - If one attacks then get ready for the counter, as soon s your character moves forward you should select your first item with W-Item and be ready to select your second, which will be the Magic Source you just Morphed the 8-Eye into - Once you have got this far refer to step 7 in the main guide, and get all your lovely Sources a-farmed. One Enemy: This will mainly be an issue when tackling the Serpent enemy, so I'll use that in my example. Serpent is definitely the most difficult of the Morphing enemies, since you have to bank all on luck and have one character die. You can make this battle easier by having a Water Ring or Ice=Elemental_mastered(maybe Leviathan=Elemental_mastered) to absorb Viper Breath and Aqualung on your W-Item character, NOT the Morpher. Have one character(again, preferably Yuffie with Conformer) with a Final Attack=Morph, Final Attack=Full Cure, Quadra Magic=Full Cure. In that order so Morph happens first. This setup obviously takes time to get, but you need to have Yuffie die, use Morph to kill the Serpent and using Full Cure 4x too. As always, use W-Item to use your first guff item as soon as Yuffie dies and wait for the Serpent to be morphed into a Mind Source. When it is Morphed you really have to gun it to get 99 Sources, but you still need to be careful when doing it so you don't go a step too far and mess it up. You can usually get about 80 with average speed. The Full Cure 4x is necessary becase it has a long animation and Final Attack will only work if the attack has a target once the enemy is dead, so KoR and Phoenix are no goes. Stealing This method holds two sections: [list] [*]Using the Steal command of the Steal materia, [*]Being stolen from by the Prowler enemies outside Midgar. *More to come soon* Prerequisites This post has been edited by iSeizmik on 11th May 2011 20:48 |

Go for it - I can't promise when we'd get around to adding any further info to the site, but I'd be interested regardless since I only ever really knew about the "standard" one.

I found out about this about two years ago and my goodness does it make life a lot easier if you're wanting to max stats. I wish I'd known about it sooner. So far it looks like a really good guide. What I would add would just be a really straightforward explanation at the top so people can glance at it and either work the rest out themselves or at least get the gist of what the glitch is. Something like: The trick works by taking the W-Item glitch one step further. Instead of copying a usable battle item, we can copy any item taken from the battle by using W-Item in conjunction with Steal or Morph.
Ok that was pants but I'm sure you could come up with something better. Also I hope the exam went well! -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

Thanks for the advice! I went ahead and added a little explanation. You don't by any chance know if I can make references in the post to hyperlink to? Like if I just have the headers 'Morph', 'Steal' and 'Throw' at the top with links that bring you to the relevant section.

Not sure I could tell you how any faster than I would be able to do it myself once I remember how. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I haven't actually sat down and measured it but it appears you get a slightly higher incidence of Screamers if you walk around immediately next to the Nibelheim reactor building (where you get a scene change so that you are no longer following the paths and can instead enter the reactor or take the door back to the tubes). As well as the Twin Brain/2 Screamers combo there is also back attack by 2 Screamers that triggers here increasing the number of fights where it's possible to pull the morph trick (particularly useful if you're trying to get enough power sources to max all you characters).
