I don't think I'd ever heard the ending theme to Final Fantasy VI called by the name "Balance is Restored" until setting up this competition, but it makes total sense. This track is kind of a cheater's favorite, I think, since it mashes up so many wonderful themes into an overture. But, that doesn't take away from just how good it is, a song that is very much greater than the sum of its parts and composed perfectly to address the visuals it accompanies.
The opponent here is epic in a different way. I don't know about you all, but I had no idea when I first started Final Fantasy IV that it would involve an interplanetary whale. Twelve-year-old me was blown away by that plot point, and it was only helped along by the bombast of the theme that plays as soon as you set foot on board. It's cut from the fanfare-and-drums cloth of many other Final Fantasy tracks, but takes it a step beyond the music of other flying vessels in Final Fantasy IV. |

Not much comparison to me, here. The Big Whale is...ok I guess. But the ending theme to FF6? As much as I'd love to hate-pick against it, it's miles better than Big Whale. Not even close.

I've had it in my head for days in working on starting up this part of the game. Bad luck that it ended up against what I think is probably the best non-vocal ending theme in the series. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Remember when I said on facebook they could play "Balance is Restored" at my funeral? Yep...that idea stands...it is a cheater's favorite, but if I'm going to cheat I might as well do it with an amazing song.

The Big Whale theme has a lot of flair to it but isn't really memorable in my opinion.
"Balance Is Restored"...oh, this is the one that has the clips of every character's theme tunes! I don't have the time to listen to all 21 minutes and 35 seconds of it for now, but I can already know I'm voting for that. Tough break for the Lunar Whale. That being said, I found it very reminiscent of stage music from Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen.
But yeah, the grandiose rearrangement of Balance is Restored renders this a no contest. -------------------- Games on the Go Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy: Four Warriors of Light Baldur's Gate Too much to play, so little time! Greg |
