Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is a mobile game with your typical Final Fantasy plotline: the crystals are in danger, and we've got to protect them. You've been granted the power of visions, which lets you summon characters from the FF franchise to fight along side you. It's a fun game, and one I've been enjoying a lot.

The game is a collaboration between Square Enix and Gumi, makers of Brave Frontier. New content is constantly being pushed to keep players interested. This latest content has been controversial: they've added Ariana Grande as a character (she's a pop star, for those who don't know who she is).

Many FF fans are saying that this ruins the purity of the game, that summons should be strictly from the FF franchise. Never mind that we've had crossovers from Brave Frontier. I'm not sure what to think of it myself. I suppose it's a good thing if it brings more players to the game.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. Did Gumi go too far with this move?

Ariana Grande triggered some similar conversations around games in general a couple weeks back in this thread: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/in...showtopic=17476

I still don't get it, if you reference my post in that thread, but I dunno. I think there's more room for it in a game like Brave Exvius, which I don't consider to be a "pure" Final Fantasy game anyway, whatever that means. Maybe it should be? Again, not sure. What I can say is that I'm confused as to what the motivation is. To bring Ariana Grande fans to a Final Fantasy game? I guess that might have some limited impact. Someone must have done some market research on this somewhere, and found some way to make money off this deal, but I can't see how.

Also... not sure what Solid Snake has to do with anything other than being one crossover in dozens, heh. smile.gif

Ah thanks, I missed that thread.

Some Ariana fans on the Brave Exvius forums said that Ariana is like the fourth most popular person on Instagram, which I guess means a huge chunk of people. It does seem a weird crossover to me, but Gumi & Squenix most definitely would have done market/financial research. I see your point about FFBE not being a pure FF game - I really enjoy it, but even some of the die-hard FFBE fans on the forum say it's not really a FF game, either.

Mostly I'm irked at the timing of the Dangerous Woman Tour event. It's a grinding event, but we already have another grinding event happening (Type-0's Akademeia). And today they launched a THIRD grinding event. I can't keep up, not unless I spend some lapis on energy rerrerfills, and I refuse to do that.

Ah, and now you know precisely why they're scheduled that way! wink.gif

No worries on missing the thread, I wouldn't have found it again either had I not posted in it already.

The product placement in XV bothers me more than this to be honest.

Bumping this rather than making a new thread: and now it's Katy Perry. (Link goes to the jpg announcement from the game)

At least I've heard of Perry. I hadn't heard of Ariana Grande before she appeared in FFBE (I'm rather sheltered music wise).

I still don't know how I feel about these collaborations. Maybe I wouldn't mind if the units were any good, but with the exception of Charming Kitty Ariana (who was a limited 5* unit) the units have been quite lackluster.Perry's Super Trust Master is really weak. 10% HP/mp is garbage.
