I personally liked Cecil hands down, but that guy was so cool I didnt like his paladin form that much, but he was sooo cool.
But what ya guys think? biggrin.gif

Posted by: Silver_Zombie 16th May 2007 20:34
Cid and the Polom/Parom duet. Yang a little less. Though I consider all of them rather useless in battle.

Posted by: CrzyMonk3y 16th May 2007 21:03
I Pretty much liked everyone except Cid. To Me, he seemed really useless and was a waste to have him in my party. But Other than That, All the characters are my favorite. tongue.gif

Posted by: NeoEx-Death 17th May 2007 00:01
The Dark Knight and the Dragoon are my two and probably only favorites from FF4. Single, they're weak.. But together, they're unstoppable.

Posted by: Blackmateria7 17th May 2007 02:17
I almost forgot about Polom and Parom though they were a bit annoying dontcha think...

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
though It was a bit funny how they turned into stone laugh.gif

so yeah Yang was cool as well as Cid...
and im guessing thats where the FFVII got cids name as well... since both own ships. laugh.gif

So you haven't noticed that ever since FF2NES there was a Cid in the game?

My favourite characters are by far Edge and Rydia. The "selectively inbred" womanizer with a vengance and the summoner girl that has the power, motivation (and enough foul language to make him shut up tongue.gif)..
In battle they are the damage dealer and the offensive caster, respectively.
And they're the cutest couple heart.gif thumbup.gif

Close behind is Cid with his one-liners and Kain with being a Dragoon.

Posted by: Lockes AlterEgo 17th May 2007 13:09
I like edge personally, he was a well balanced character. A thief that can equip swords and do ninja type moves. Plus he can use some good magical spells. All and all they i think he's the best.

Posted by: Blackmateria7 17th May 2007 13:39
Well he was allright but thats not the name that I think of when I hear "FFIV" tongue.gif

Kain has gotta be my fave, always loved the dragoon

I liked Cecil and Tellah... And Golbez just as a character... Tellah was just so funny, calling Edward a spoony bard....

I have no clue if you were just kidding about that or not, but he IS my favorite all time character. Once he gets Apollo's Harp he can do straight nines to undead and around 1000-2500 base damage.

I liked Cecil and Edward (not joking!) the best. I liked how conflicted Cecil was (and it doesn't hurt that his hair's SOPRETTY *_*) and as for Edward... well, what can I say? I've got a weakness for the fragile type. heart.gif

Posted by: King Eddy 19th May 2007 19:58
Kain Highwind for the win! I feel bad how he was being used by Golbez throughout the game (even though his emotions were partly to blame for the incidents). I also love his dragoon armour. wub.gif

You see, the first time I played FFIV, I was all excited that he knew a recovery move... UNTIL I NOTICED THAT I WAS OUT OF POTIONS WTF. D:< Right when I needed one, too.

It's almost cliche' to say Kain, but he is my favorite. Cecil was a good character, but after his big transformation into a paladin fairly early on in the story, his storyline was pretty much over for me. Now Kain, as a playable fighter and as a character was something that I could really appreciate. When he's present, all fights are easier. You really miss him when he's gone. His story is also excellent. Just a well thought out addition to the game, all around.

Posted by: mehael 30th May 2007 01:51
*sigh* So difficult for me. This is based off the original SNES release titled Final Fantasy II.

If Kain had ever gotten over Rosa...maybe. Heck of a fighter, and wonderful to have in battle. But at the end, he can't even attend their wedding because he hasn't moved on.

Edge? Too much the arrogant playboy flirt. The personality type has always rubbed me the wrong way. Pity, since a twin sword fighter with the ability to steal is also a very nice thing to have in the party.

Cecil? Almost. Strong warrior, with a take the hit for a teammate ability that I really like. A dash of white magic that is also nice. But I have to go with...

Rydia. Good destructive magic, and a somewhat random healing summon late in the game. Saves the party from doom a couple of times, and is only saved once when the Baron soldiers show up early in the game. Very strong for all that she went through.

probably Cid

well now that i think about it, i liked Edge a lot too, but i wish they have had more story around him

ooo but i definately like Yang

Cecil is cool too though...

oh darnit i hate favorite character discussions, there are too many good ones.

No, his name was "Edward Geraldine," which makes "Edge"! I wish I could do that with my first and middle names, but all I get is Laka. Actually, I guess that's pretty cool.

This is now the "make your Eblan prince name" thread. (I am kidding.)

hey this is kinda off topic, but are all the items for throwing in later final fantasy games (ex. fire edge or whatever) named for Edge in final fantasy 4?

I always thought it was EDward GEraldine, hence edge.

pretty offtopic, but hey...

As for my favourite character, I wouldn't have managed to beat the game without Rosa, white mages are a must, but Kain is really the strongest ;p a minor damage immunity and straight nines for the win. He had the coolest outfit and personal story aswell.

Posted by: DrkMagimaster282 11th June 2007 20:15
In general, Edge and Yang are my favorites, since ninjas and monks are my favorite classes overall

I definately loved Cecil and Kain most however, since they had the most internal issues going on, with kain fighting his jealousy of Cecil and his issues around never being as strong as him.

Cecil had the whole issue around whether to obey the king or fight for justice thing going on and i dug that!

Posted by: yomama 12th June 2007 01:16
I never got very far(i was almost to edge) But my favorite Character was Edward!
He was actually quite good, and if it wasn't for him, how would they ever be able to get past the magnetic field. It was than Rydia, Cecil, Yang, and Rosa. Tellah could've been good if he gained more mp.

p.s. anyone who hated edward needs to have respect to the harp.

Posted by: Basch 12th June 2007 02:01
Cecil hands down my favorite...I loved his ability to deal with his friends turning on him, and dealing with his own brother.

Posted by: Silverlance 12th June 2007 03:04
In FF2e, hands down Rydia and Edge. Seriously. Each and every pixel in their sprites was injected with a hefty dose of "teh awesomes" during their design. My one gripe with Edge was his skills, which had a proportionately inverse dose of "teh sux" pumped into them. Even if you got Sneak working there weren't any worthwhile items to steal. And his only Ninja skills worth using was Image - the rest, Rydia can outdamage without breaking a sweat. But Image more than made up for that.

In FF4a, Edward ended up being a massive pillar of strength in my party. In 2e he was an absurdedly useless character. But once he starts hitting straight 9999s every turn on the moon, the other characters pale in comparaison. He ended up being my first character to hit level 99, because the rest were just too wimpy. I mean, 4500 damage? Wtf is this, the mist cave?

Runner up: Cid. High damage, highest HP in the game (hitting 9999 a while before hitting level 99,) and in FF4a casting Flare during physical attacks just made him an ungodly damage-dealing machine. But he never sucked as bad as Edward did, so the contrast between his FF2e and FF4a versions isn't as impressive as Edward's.

Posted by: Death Penalty 12th June 2007 17:45
in every final fantasy, i have this bad habbit of using characters who i think have cooler backgrounds and dialogue and stuff like that, instead of characters who are best for my party. so i usually end up with one black mage and the rest power hitters. which hurts the strategy part a little, but oh well.

Cecil as a Dark Knight. No Doubt about that. Strong, poweful and useful in every situation. With the Death Sword you can Kill anybody in a so simply way...

Yeah, I definitely noticed that. They just needed a few warm-up games before they started producing the good ones.

But I've always liked Kain....thought he was pretty kool.

I'm not that fond of rosa though...

Palom, the Mysidian Genius!

Seriously, he was great. Black Wizards = Win. Child Prodigies = Win. His overwhelmingly deserved arrogance = loltastic.

It was either him or Cid. Because what's almost better than a 5 year old Black Wizard with a bunch of kick-ass powers? An angry Old Man who lives recklessly, builds Airships, and smashes enemies with tools.
Edit

Edit: Rydia brings up third place.

Posted by: PrinceofDamycan 25th August 2007 05:52
>_> Cecil. Never have the ellipsis been used for so great a cause.

Also, gotta admire a man whose response to the death of his years-long father figure being "...so did anyone catch where he just told us to take the airship?"

Yeah, but even after VI was released, gamers were still talking about the characters in IV. They were...er, rather developed for their time, and until VI, and maybe V, IV had the best characters in the series.

I had lifeless, mute guys with 4 letter names, II had generic teenagers and a bunch of guys who died for no reason, III had a leader who occasionly spoke, with three other mute guys tagging along. So...yeah.

Kain Highwind is my Favourite, but (Hold the phone )
Cecil can whack a punch with those deadly weapons of his though and he's one of the best Final Fantasy heroes and a great role model too. like you should forgive others and Revenge is wrong plus he's a better leader than the other FF heroes. My Favourite would be Cecil if I didn't relate to Kain so much,as in the jealous best friend, who everyone else gets everything, and you get crap all..
so Kain Highwind all the way !!

I liked Golbeze's his music, ominous, evil.. his prescents just the same. Plus his evilness was the goal through most of the game so he maintained evil in the majority. Plus he looked pretty cool compared to most (if not all) playable and non-playable characters.

Least Hated = Kain

Rydia is my favorite all around. I like the callers/summoners/black mages tongue.gif

I like Rosa because she's save me for death in quite a few battles.

But I do have a place in my heart for Kain. He's so confused.

Posted by: Makoeyes21 26th October 2007 12:24
End game it's Kain.

Cecil was badass as a Dark Knight tho.

Posted by: MandaCookie 7th November 2007 09:34
Well, of all the characters, the only ones I never really cared for were Tellah and Edward (this is, of course, from a personality perspective rather than gameplay). I didn't care for FuSoYa much either, but that's semi-understandable considering he makes an appearance late in the game.

Back when I first played, I loved the three mains, being Cecil, Rosa, and Kain. I had a problem for liking the pretty princess types, so naturally Rosa was my favourite. Now I love Kain and Rydia. Kain most of all, for his utter coolness and what today we'd call emo-factor (but back then was totally acceptable!)

Gameplay-wise I just loved Kain and Rydia. Kain's jumps let him deliver a powerful attack, and kept him from danger for the time he was in the air. FYI: If you're fast enough in the battle with Golbez in the underworld, Kain will jump and avoid being paralyzed, so you can utilize Cecil, Kain and Rydia at the beginning of the battle =D
Rydia couldn't hit worth crap, but her magic totally made up for it. Just make sure you level her to at least 10 before going into the caves above Kaipo ^_~

Posted by: SephirothX 15th November 2007 02:56
I sorta like Rydia because she knows how to make Edge shut up xD, and then Cecil when he was a D.Knight

Posted by: laszlow 15th November 2007 04:21
Have I posted in this thread? ... Hmm, apparently not. Well, character-wise, I'm a pretty big fan of Kain - he's on the emo side, but his complicated friendship with Cecil makes him a lot more interesting than other high-profile self-hating RPG characters. It's also a pretty enormous WTF moment when he storms Fabul castle while you're defending it, and he's a physical powerhouse in the second half of the game.

A close second is Rydia. We see her as a scared child, then as a stronger, more mature child, then as a grown woman, then as a grown woman that shuts Edge down multiple times. Awesome to the extreme. I really like FF IV's core cast, but Rydia and Kain are my favorites.

Posted by: Gigantuar 25th November 2007 10:22
I pretty much like all of them. They are all awesome in their own way. My biggest favorite though is probably Tellah.. I hate the fact that (spoiler)
Possible spoilers: highlight to view

Posted by: Mr.Vercetti 28th November 2007 21:58

It's definitely a tough choice between Rydia and the twins. I think I like Rydia better, though, because she's a Summoner and she's a great addition to the party. biggrin.gif I love the twins, as well, since they are great for the time that you have them and because of their Twin Magic.

My love for Edward has grown even more! After discovering the hide/beserk glitch, + loki's lute, he does amazing damage with out even getting a scratch. And chant is a solid ability to.

After that i would have to say Rydia or Yang.

Posted by: darkdragoon 6th February 2008 02:26
I have to say my all time favorite FFIV character is Kain. Cool name, awesome armor, my favorite job class, and the fact when I first played FF I was drawn to the guy(but hey I was maybe 8 at the time.) but yeah Kain owns and Golbez comes in second mainly because he's evil, is my second favorite job class, and has an army of underlings and Elemental Lords.

Posted by: iamanoob 7th February 2008 00:59
Edward is too weak, every time i try and use that glitch he always gets murdered or hides before i can cast. Second Edwards loki lute only hurts in the 2000s and doesnt have an extra effect. The only good thing about Edward is his chant ability and the glitch if u can even get it to work.

Palom is better than Rydia because his magic stat is 99 at a low lvl, plus he learns his spells so much faster than rydia does. Flare is better than the Bahamut summon and it costs 10 mp less.

Posted by: Aether Master 8th February 2008 05:49
While Palom might learns his magic quicker than Rydia does, Rydia is better at almost every aspect. Rydia's attributes are just better and Rydia has access to more equipment than Palom. As much as I love the twins, you don't have access to them for a long time during the game, even after the events at the Giant of Bab-il in the GBA remake. I love Palom and Porom when you have access to them starting from Mysidia. Palom's Bluff ability is really nice, though.

Posted by: Kefka's Revenge 8th February 2008 06:45
Rydia, just for personal preference

Posted by: BanjoTheClown 10th February 2008 04:21
Id have to say that my favorite character is Edward now, after playing through FFIVa. I wish you could disable his Hide ability though.

Posted by: Kefka86 11th February 2008 19:03
Lets see.... Rydia, Edward, Edge, Kain, and Golbez. Those were my favorites after completing the game. Though I have to admit during the gameplay I was back and forth on some characters more than Kain was back and forth between good and evil. lol

Posted by: SHPIRATE 2nd April 2008 22:23
kain, hands down. He pulled angst off in a way that made it so intense, you just had to think he was awesome (Edward should have taken notes). Not to mention, his jump ability was pretty amazing.

Posted by: lilygirl823 19th April 2008 00:18
My favorite (should be quite obvious) is Rydia smile.gif , although Kain is in second. Really though, I like everybody in this game because they all serve a purpose. Even Golbez, sure he's a villian early on, but I like him as a character because he winds up being good. I think everybody brings something to the table here, but Rydia is my favorite because she's a summoner and she has a very sarcastic, tomboy kind of attitude. Plus my favorite color is neon green laugh.gif Not to mention without her help in the Dwarven Castle, they'd all be dead.

Edward and Tellah. After Tellah finally accepted Edward as his son, I wish there had been a part when they fought together. Playing through FF4A, Edward and that Apollo Harp of his got me through Lunar Subterrane almost singlehandedly.

Kain...no question. Kain rules.

I loved the entire cast but Rydia was, is and will continue to be my favourite Final Fantasy character of all-time.

True Rydia was good but i'm pretty sure that the best of all time, would have to be......Cid, there i said it, that old man died nearly 3 times to save you and he still keeps on a kickin.

though It was a bit funny how they turned into stone laugh.gif

so yeah Yang was cool as well as Cid...
and im guessing thats where the FFVII got cids name as well... since both own ships. laugh.gif

uh....every Final Fantasy has a Cid, and most of them are airship engineers.....like...3,4,5,7,10. that's a good majority. but oh, yeah like I said, there in all the FF games. Except for Legends on GB.

Yeah, I agree. Rydia is also my absoloute Fave. I love Edward (Edge) the 2nd. it's hard to pick....but I know I have to.

And hey. Maybe Asura's random about her move, having 4 heads and all. But in the fight with Zeromus you are soo glad you have her if Rosa and almost everyone else is dead and you needa Cure fix.

I adore Rydia! She's pretty powerful and when you get her when she's older you just know she's really freaking powerful!!!
Rosa is my party's savior, though. Many-a-time Cecil would have had to try fighting a boss alone if it weren't for Rosa! All hail white mages!!! laugh.gif

I liked Golbez. If he was playable then I would've replaced Rydia for him.

I liked Cecil the best...When he was a dark knight that is biggrin.gif
He may be very weak, but he is much cooler looking and I love the dark attack tongue.gif

That was kind of the point of his character. He was fragile, yet he was loving and caring. Welcome to CoN! Anyways, I'm not sure if I have a favorite, maybe Edward actually. I was possibly intrigued by his fragile nature, especially when all of the others were very powerful.

Favorite is Rydia ! Because she is mentally strong and she pushes through no matter what happens throughout the game. Second would be Kain and is a Spoony Bard ( Edward ) supporter, too many people pick on him because he isn't 'manly' enough, come on people the man just lost his wife and he's going through some grieving. Have a heart. sad.gif

Kain is my fav ff4 character. He is amazingly awesome biggrin.gif

Cecil FTW

Posted by: Vihera 11th May 2011 12:00
My fav. character would have to be Cecil. he has good values and is a great protagonist because he goes through a transformation of what he thinks is his life, to saving the world and finding out he has a brother in the process. Cecil is what great protagonists are made of IMO. biggrin.gif

Fat Chocobo.

Yes. Oh, heck yes.

Without him, where would you stash your one-time only items like Gungir after you get better stuff? biggrin.gif

I liked all the chars everyone had an ability

But when Cecil turns into a paladin is like "Cecil has leveled up" FOR OVER 9000 TIMES! lol

Posted by: Dr. Delinquent 11th September 2011 17:12
Kain, Edge, and Golbez.

Posted by: Gaelach Rose 15th September 2011 19:25
To be honest, I'm torn. I really and truly love Golbez with a passion more intense than 1000 suns (that's hyberbole, by the way), but on the other hand, I love his brother just as much.

I know! I know! I like KLUYA the most, for without him, neither of the other two would exist.

I liked Rydia. Once you get Bahamut, she becomes you most powerful party member by far. She outranks the twins, in my opinion.

But gameplay aside, Cecil was the best. He is a classic knight in shining armor, with an awesome redemption story. Wow he is so cool. wub.gif

King Baron is my favorite. He gets screwed by the storyline pretty badly, but in the end, turns out to be frickin Odin
