Quote (Sabin Trainee @ 20th February 2007 02:41) Which reminds me. Do not spam the topic please. no one word posts, either,Thnx Hey now , How was I spamming the topic? Or was that a reference to someone else? I think I stuck to the topic in saying I wouldn't mind getting together... except most of you have a tendency of freaking me out...not like I have enough free time to travel or anything though... so it would have to be close... And I may have made a few quotes from other people... but I was just adding comments on what had already been said...so I'm not sure if that qualifies as spam... even if it is a little off the subject of a gathering edit: Hey, even if it was only a one word reply, it still made me laugh. So I didn't really mind... Having a Caves of Narshe Meeting is a good idea but like I said, its not really practical, I think he summed up my paranoia nicely, if but a little bluntly with a simple; "no" This post has been edited by CT5Holy on 20th February 2007 06:04 -------------------- Quote <FrPhoenix[Around]> "Burgleburgleburgle" |

That was not to you. it was to Mr. one word reply
and your right. its pretty unlikely to happen. I just threw a topic out there hoping that it would become a great idea. Moderator Edit No telling other members what to do, Mr. Wannabe Mod. Try to get this back on topic, please. Alrighty, i did keep it on topic btw. Quote on myself:"and your right, its pretty unlikely to happen. I just threw a topic out there hoping that it would become a great idea" POINT MADE....K.Thnx Moderator Edit Maybe 20% will teach you to actually listen when the staff tells you to stop acting like a mod. Realistically, I'm sure none of you are all that bad in person. However a meeting will happen if I win the blackjack from Setzer.

I have met none of you, and only know of two people that were reasonably close to me: SSJ_Cloud and someone else I really didn't care to meet. Shame!

If we did meet up...
It would be a logistical nightmare, yes. We are scattered literally across the Earth. But let's say that the logistics played out well. Let's say I become a giantly successful writer and fund the whole thing for whoever wants to show up and can get time away from work. I would say that the proper location for the meetup would have to be a Solitary Island of some sort...and to be honest, the one that comes to mind is Okinawa. My brother was once stationed there. It is an island, and not very big, but I'm sure there are hotels. We purchase as many hotel rooms as we need, and perhaps rent out a convention hall (in Okinawa? Maybe there is a hotel like that? I'm not sure) to play a game in. Because, let's be honest here...if we were all getting together simply because we are all CoN people, we are going to have to sit down and play some Final Fantasy. I suppose it does not have to be VI, or even Final Fantasy...other games should be ok too... But the basic idea is that if we're gonna do it, it should be done right. So: Who: CoN Members! What: A CoNvention! Where: Okinawa, Japan! When: Let's say for a week? Why: P-A-R-T-why? Cuz we got to How: With a lot of money, that's how, and we'll eat, drink, be merry, play video games, and if anyone makes trouble, they'll have the Japanese to deal with. Yeah, it's a pipe dream, sure. But pipe dreams are dreams, too, you know. -------------------- X is blue. |

The only person from CoN I've met IRL is Narratorway, and that's been years ago. I'm not sure if he's even in my area (somewhere in CA) anymore.

I don't have any plans for next Monday if that works for everyone. Ideally I'd be back in time for dinner though.

But let's say that the logistics played out well. Let's say I become a giantly successful writer and fund the whole thing for whoever wants to show up and can get time away from work. Well, given the general number of active members, it wouldn't cost THAT much, relatively speaking! That said, obviously even at our best we were never going to be doing anything like Minecon or something. I'm not that good of a community organizer even if we were busier. However, I do still strongly urge people who might be going to conventions anywhere to be on the lookout for CoN folk. I might consider going to PAX South next year if there are other folks heading there, for instance, or perhaps the NOLA Comicon again since I went on a whim last weekend. If people are going places and want to do ad hoc CoN meetups, it certainly doesn't require me! I'll even send you a stack of CoN business cards if you give me enough notice and want to rep the site wherever you are. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

To that, I say, why not establish an identification convention of some sort?
Put a Moogle pom-pom on your head, and mark it with a white-out pen, 'CoN'. That way, we can identify each other at a glance! Or, I dunno, don't? -------------------- X is blue. |

Been thinking about this a lot actually. I visit quite a few anime conventions yearly and always wondered if anyone here goes to the same ones. Obviously would love to meet some of you. I think it'd be interesting.

I'm actually not hard to find, but getting to me's the issue. I've been Operations Director at Furry Fiesta for many years now, so I spend most of the convention behind the Operations desk directing traffic and managing the Lost & Found.
A guy I knew from the old Jack boards (before it slowed to a crawl after the crash) finds me every year and we chat for a few minutes; Sirusfox. Nice guy, kinda awkward like all furs. He was kind enough to loan me half a room one of the years when I didn't have enough cash for my own room (the only convention I ever caught con crud at, too). There have been many amusing stories from sitting behind that desk all these years. P.S. I don't go by "Zephir" anywhere except here and the Nuklear Power forums; everywhere else (including at TFF) I go by my given name, "KL Sanchez". Excepting for Texags, where I caught the permabans one year and had to switch to "Meximan". Can you imagine if this actually happened, and how awkward it would be? A predominantly male group standing around sipping coke because we'll all have a thousand mile drive home?
Let's do it! No but, honestly... if there was the money a CoNvention would be really cool. Dressing up as the characters from these games and shenanigans. Let me know if you decide to bring it to the UK |

Lol. I posted in this thread 10 years ago saying a meetup would be hard, but last summer I drove up to Montreal and met with Dragon_Fire (we usually just call him Jav) and a bunch of his friends, as well as another one of our friends from Arizona. I got my passport for that reason!

I live in the middle of dem cornfields (Neb), and I never travel other than to see family. This thread is likely as close as any of you will be to having a meet-up with me. Plus I'm too socially awkward (and boring) to bother : / .

Any of you folks (trapped) in Utah?
If I traveled more, I'd drop a line here, but I don't do much traveling aside from back home to the Bay Area and to Vegas, and those are usually much too short and definitely booked solid. Any Bay Area folks, for the record? |

RelmArrowny and I met at Akon a few years ago and that was a great time. She's fantastic! I'm always up for meeting people at cons I attend. I'll be at AnimeFest in a week as Schala with the Prophet in tow so feel free to stop us for a chat if you see us!

I always thought this would be a cool idea. Whenever I get the money to do it, I'd like to visit one of the big conventions, like PAX East. If that happens, and anyone else goes, we ought to meet up.

Hence why I'm great at games.
I've tried to open up to people but they can get uneasy. Yes, I do and don't get along with people but I found it harder to connect or remain friends for long. You will find me skilled at many games yet on the boring side. I'm better at more broad based strategies than a particular situation that might work for you. Though my true game is Chess. I'm more likely to have played you somewhere than at a Final Fantasy Game. You'd also need to be somewhere around the Pacific Coast. -------------------- https://www.youtube.com/user/Greatermaxim Terra - LV 99 - HP 9999 - MP 999 Equipment - - - Abilities Illumina - - - - - Fight Genji Shield - - Morph Oath Veil - - - - Magic Minerva - - - - - Item Ribbon Economizer |

I used to go to PAX East but never really tracked any CoN folks down there - they were probably, wisely, avoiding me. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

If I ever manage to get my act together enough to actually visit the US, rather than just talk about wanting to, I'd liek to try and plan it around a visit to comic-con or one of the games cons - it'd be pretty cool if that could coincide with a CoNcon.
