What would you guys/Beautiful ladies think if we got together, ALL of us. JUST
CoN members. What would you suggest? Id be lookin at a reunion party?
What do you people think. Just throwin a thought out there! What would you do?!

Posted by: Cloud_Strife510 10th February 2007 03:26
Well only if its in AZ, that way ZH and I could show everyone how far ahead Arizona liquor stores are compared to the rest of the world.

Posted by: karasuman 10th February 2007 03:33
So only beautiful ladies are invited? Josh can't come?

Posted by: laszlow 10th February 2007 03:34
That wouldn't really work for me, because I don't actually exist. Except on facebook.

Posted by: Quad 10th February 2007 03:35
Ouch, that's gotta hurt.

CoN members live everywhere from America to Japan to Brazil to Poland, a meet-up might be sort of hard.

Posted by: Sabin Trainee 10th February 2007 03:39
No prob bro! I was throwing it out there! But if it did happen Who would you like to see most?! Id like to see R-51 and + laszlow! there pretty cool. Ive been here for a
while,my posts may not show it, but I HAVE. And I do have to say, they do know EVERYTHING about the site, and I can rely on them if I have a question or problem
that needs tending to! They try their best even if they dont succeed....I have known them 4ever,and ever, and ever, and.... well you get the picture.
I just hope one day I can see their faces even if its on the net.

I concur.

Aside from that, though, I wouldn't mind meeting R51 or RuneLancer someday. Doubtful it would ever happen, but I think it'd be interesting to meet some people I've talked to online/worked for/worked with in person. Not saying it's a good idea because I'm pretty sure RL is a mass murderer, but meh. I still have 4++ years of college ahead of me before I think about any of that.

As for the liklihood of an actual CoN extravaganza, I'd give it zero probability. If R51 actually organized it, maybe two people would bother to show up, including him. Too widespread and too shady (it IS the internet, after all).

Posted by: Sabin Trainee 10th February 2007 04:04
Im sorry man its just that Ive been on here all these years and Ive NEVER, not once seen yours or laszlows faces. Its just that I look up to you guys.
Thats what gave me this Idea, even knowing that it will NEVER happen.
Ive known you forever R-51! and as long as your on CoN Im on CoN, face it bro,HAHAHAHA, your stuck with me on here!LOL!

And Id quit laughin' laszlow, I DID NOT forget about you either! Your stuck with me as well, Computer Pal!

I've already met quite a few CoN members. It's been fun each time.

Posted by: Dragon_Fire 10th February 2007 07:31
I'd want to get together with a few CoN members for some laughs, it could probably be some fun...but really, I can only imagine actually hanging out or traveling to see the few I really talk to in chat and the people I've corresponded with since being here, basically the CoNchat regulars. I think I've tried to persuade Bobbo and MG to come down to Montreal on a few occasions.

I almost met up with Elena99 when she was in Montreal a while back, but I forgot to leave her a way to contact me and so the chance was missed. Silverlancer actually lives in the same city as me, but we've never met. It is a big city after all.

At any rate, if all goes according to plan, my band should be doing some traveling this summer, so who knows. I might run into a few of you.

Posted by: FabulousFreebird 10th February 2007 12:22
I guess it might be kinda' nice, but I wouldn't drop everything ta' make it happen. The web site's enough for me. If there's a big CoN-invited party within the U.S., then I might consider goin', but the computer screen's enough for me.

You can see Josh's face in his profile.

Posted by: Elena99 10th February 2007 12:46
I've never met any CoN people, but I've had a couple of almost-meets, like DF said. I've known some of the staff members, at least online, for more than 5 years, and I think something like 10 in R51's case.

The main problem is geography, as someone already pointed out. We're in a very big world, and it's getting increasingly harder to travel internationally.

That said, I don't see why you couldn't try to organize a meet-up for your city, or state/province/region.

I've considered the possibility of going a few thousand miles to creepily turn up on someone's door and then tell them to look at a certain thread before leaving, then upon returning to the UK, announcing on CoNchat "Wait, I should really have just done that in chat..." but this is a silly idea and only to be entertained in the strange little fantasy world I live in.

It's great, there's unicorns with rocket launchers. And hundreds of cows and aliens, and a yellow submarine.

The place is a problem, since as mentioned, we all live in way different places from each other.

Personally though, i would love the idea of REGIONAL gettogethers, where people from each region host a meet. This could just be the fact i live in Seattle talking though, where nothing like this ever happens...as far as i know.

Posted by: Nytecrawla 10th February 2007 20:39
That could be a problem for someone like me. I mean...I do a lot of stuff for the government...I just happen to love FF, Gaming and all, so I spend some time on the site when I can. I mean...to be honest, the government makes it hard enough for my family to find me, let alone random people. Good idea though...I guess.

Posted by: Kane 10th February 2007 23:22
It would be cool to hang out with some of the CONers, but let's face it logistically, it's just not a good idea. We're all poor enough as it is and the one facet of all our lives that we know we'd have in common is FF.....so what would we talk about.....FF

I for one say save your $400 and start going to Chat

Posted by: Suunok 11th February 2007 02:15
What about at an anime convention? There are tons all over the place, and they provide a very public (and therefore, relatively safe) way to meet people. Also, meeting at a con would provide lots more to do than simply talk about FF.

Of course, travel expenses would still be a problem for some, but since it'd be at a con, there'd be tons of people there already, so it wouldn't be too bad if only a few people could make it.

Posted by: Kaijyuu 11th February 2007 02:58
I've seen lots of internet communities do this, and frankly you cant measure it's effectiveness by the amount of people that show up.

3-5 people getting together would probably be good for a community the size of CoN.

I've never attended one of these things, but from what I've heard, they're pretty fun. Meeting some people can be freaky (like, REALLY freaky), but hey smile.gif

I like everyone just the way they are. It would be disappointing to find out that Sabin Trainee's actually a distinguished museum curator and R51 speaks in a really high-pitched voice not a braud New Yorker one that I've got stuck in my head. Neither of these will be true (probably) but you get the idea.

Probably should add, I can't read one post below this due to a severe eyesight deficiency and therefore whatever is written will not be read by me.

I've always wondered who that was.

I think it would be amusing to have some sort of get-together, though as everyone else has said it's highly unlikely. I would really like to meet other Nova Scotians that visit here; I only know one other besides me. Actually, she lives about ten minutes from my house and I see her at school everyday. I guess I do have my own reunion everyday!

Now that I remember, last summer I went to Manhattan and later on left to Providence on a Greyhound Bus that stopped in White Plains, I was like HEY, I think the CoN web master lives here, I was right. Seems like a nice place, at least where I went. Is not that far from New York City either.

Anyway, a meet up? pretty unlikely.

Hey now sad.gif , How was I spamming the topic?

Or was that a reference to someone else? eh.gif

I think I stuck to the topic in saying I wouldn't mind getting together... except most of you have a tendency of freaking me out...not like I have enough free time to travel or anything though... so it would have to be close...

And I may have made a few quotes from other people... but I was just adding comments on what had already been said...so I'm not sure if that qualifies as spam... even if it is a little off the subject of a gathering wink.gif

edit:

Hey, even if it was only a one word reply, it still made me laugh. laugh.gif

So I didn't really mind... Having a Caves of Narshe Meeting is a good idea but like I said, its not really practical, I think he summed up my paranoia nicely, if but a little bluntly with a simple;

"no"

Posted by: Sabin Trainee 20th February 2007 04:37
That was not to you. it was to Mr. one word reply
and your right. its pretty unlikely to happen. I just threw a topic out there hoping that it would become a great idea.

If we did meet up...

It would be a logistical nightmare, yes. We are scattered literally across the Earth.

But let's say that the logistics played out well. Let's say I become a giantly successful writer and fund the whole thing for whoever wants to show up and can get time away from work.

I would say that the proper location for the meetup would have to be a Solitary Island of some sort...and to be honest, the one that comes to mind is Okinawa. My brother was once stationed there. It is an island, and not very big, but I'm sure there are hotels.

We purchase as many hotel rooms as we need, and perhaps rent out a convention hall (in Okinawa? Maybe there is a hotel like that? I'm not sure) to play a game in.

Because, let's be honest here...if we were all getting together simply because we are all CoN people, we are going to have to sit down and play some Final Fantasy. I suppose it does not have to be VI, or even Final Fantasy...other games should be ok too...

But the basic idea is that if we're gonna do it, it should be done right.

So:

Who: CoN Members!
What: A CoNvention!
Where: Okinawa, Japan!
When: Let's say for a week?
Why: P-A-R-T-why? Cuz we got to
How: With a lot of money, that's how, and we'll eat, drink, be merry, play video games, and if anyone makes trouble, they'll have the Japanese to deal with.

Yeah, it's a pipe dream, sure. But pipe dreams are dreams, too, you know.

Well, given the general number of active members, it wouldn't cost THAT much, relatively speaking! smile.gif

That said, obviously even at our best we were never going to be doing anything like Minecon or something. I'm not that good of a community organizer even if we were busier. However, I do still strongly urge people who might be going to conventions anywhere to be on the lookout for CoN folk. I might consider going to PAX South next year if there are other folks heading there, for instance, or perhaps the NOLA Comicon again since I went on a whim last weekend.

If people are going places and want to do ad hoc CoN meetups, it certainly doesn't require me! I'll even send you a stack of CoN business cards if you give me enough notice and want to rep the site wherever you are. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Spooniest 19th January 2017 16:19
To that, I say, why not establish an identification convention of some sort?

Put a Moogle pom-pom on your head, and mark it with a white-out pen, 'CoN'.

That way, we can identify each other at a glance! smile.gif

Or, I dunno, don't?

I'm actually not hard to find, but getting to me's the issue. I've been Operations Director at Furry Fiesta for many years now, so I spend most of the convention behind the Operations desk directing traffic and managing the Lost & Found.

A guy I knew from the old Jack boards (before it slowed to a crawl after the crash) finds me every year and we chat for a few minutes; Sirusfox. Nice guy, kinda awkward like all furs. He was kind enough to loan me half a room one of the years when I didn't have enough cash for my own room (the only convention I ever caught con crud at, too).

There have been many amusing stories from sitting behind that desk all these years.

P.S. I don't go by "Zephir" anywhere except here and the Nuklear Power forums; everywhere else (including at TFF) I go by my given name, "KL Sanchez". Excepting for Texags, where I caught the permabans one year and had to switch to "Meximan".

Posted by: mertinatron 1st February 2017 14:33
Can you imagine if this actually happened, and how awkward it would be? A predominantly male group standing around sipping coke because we'll all have a thousand mile drive home?

Let's do it!

No but, honestly... if there was the money a CoNvention would be really cool. Dressing up as the characters from these games and shenanigans. Let me know if you decide to bring it to the UK happy.gif

Lol. I posted in this thread 10 years ago saying a meetup would be hard, but last summer I drove up to Montreal and met with Dragon_Fire (we usually just call him Jav) and a bunch of his friends, as well as another one of our friends from Arizona. I got my passport for that reason!

Hence why I'm great at games.

I've tried to open up to people but they can get uneasy. Yes, I do and don't get along with people but I found it harder to connect or remain friends for long.

You will find me skilled at many games yet on the boring side. I'm better at more broad based strategies than a particular situation that might work for you.

Though my true game is Chess. I'm more likely to have played you somewhere than at a Final Fantasy Game. You'd also need to be somewhere around the Pacific Coast.

For me currently, it would be more likely to be PAX South. I am not going again this year, but who knows, maybe next; I can't seem to keep my life organized well enough to actually plan such a thing right now.

I used to go to PAX East but never really tracked any CoN folks down there - they were probably, wisely, avoiding me. smile.gif

If I ever manage to get my act together enough to actually visit the US, rather than just talk about wanting to, I'd liek to try and plan it around a visit to comic-con or one of the games cons - it'd be pretty cool if that could coincide with a CoNcon.
