Which do you prefer?
The original magic system of the NES, PSone and Wonderswan version? (Having a limited number of casts per spell rank.) or The standard MP approach of the upcoming GBA release? The same magic system used in nearly all the FF games. |

I voted MP cause face it, it's a better system. There is a reason it's the prevailng system now rather than the one created by archaic Dungeons & Dragons games. That having been said...I think it's a bad idea to update FF1, as it ruins the games flavor

I chose the MP option. Ancient said it perfectly. It just works better. Plus, I've gotten so used to MP, I hardly remember the older system of magic.

... and I third The Ancient's motion.
Original = Why do I care if I can caste Fire1 nine times by the games end? MP = Yay, more casting of spells that are actually useful. ... but the preservation of our FF heritage and all that jazz. -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |

I have to go with the MP system that I have used throughout my gaming experience. More casting equals more fun.

The original system is more realistic, I think (i.e, casting spell after spell and only being able to regain the strength to do so by resting versus miraculously being powered-up by ethers). With that said, I still prefer the MP system--it's just more convenient. However, like DP said, the original system is part of FFI's charm, so it's the only magic system I'd want to use in that game.

Quite frankly, the spell system of the original Final Fantasy was one of the aggrivating points of the game that kept me from wanting to progress very far in it. Now that I know the GBA version has introduced the MP system, I'm compelled to find a copy and try it out.

I like the original system, I'm pissed that they're gonna change it.
It's just that it keeps ruining the game, I like it tough, I like it bothersome. I want a game that I get my ass kicked at every turn, makes me want to break my friggin game system in half... but I keept coming back for more THATS what a REAL RPG is Modern RPG's just don't dish it out like they used to -------------------- "A little tight, but the price was right" - Locke "Oh, what a Fuddy Duddy" - Relm "..." - Shadow "I'm a General, not some love starved twit" - Celes "Although Edgar showers his attention on the ladies, most are smart enough to pay him no attention. I don't see the MP system as ruining the game. (If they don't give too much MP that is.) Many people who prefer the classic game already seem to prefer the original graphical look, so they're not going to entirely like the new renditions anyways. The original game is still around and all you have to do is not play the new versions.
It's too bad that the GBA game won't have an unlockable NES version. It seems like a win-win situation to me. You get to try something a little different if you want, and you still get to play the original if you don't enjoy that. Sure, it feels different, but it can be interesting to do something in a different way, just as it is when you take a different party though FF1. I guess it depends on whether Square Enix balances the amounts of MP and spell costs in a way that will force you to carefully ration your spells. If they do, then it will still have part of the same feel. Somehow though, I feel that they will make it too easy. |

I went for the original system for two reasons:
1) I like the fact that (at the end of the game) when I run out of Cure4s, I still have LOTS of Cure3s, Cure2s, and Cure1s. 2) I don't have to worry about not being able to cast Flare just because I casted too many Quakes -------------------- When life gives you lemons... The original system. Having MP isn't nearly as much a challenge as having a set amount of times you can use the spells. I like a challenging game, therfore; I like the original.

the original way was weird, i just got origins a few days ago, and im all about 2, 1 just seems storyless and too restraining on stuff like MP and such.

I like the MP system more but the original games should stick with the old system.
It fit the games well and changing it is just stupid. -------------------- I feel so cold, I can't see a thing, I hear a faint sound, the black wind howls.... |

I went with the original system over MP, even though I never actually played the GBA version. I don't want to imagine playing FFI with MP, unless of course point value was proportioned to give the game almost as challenging a feel. Having the extremely limited amounts of cures and such spells really helps not overdoing it. You're forced to strategize more so that the enemy doesn't hit you as much so that you don't have to use unnecessary cure spells. This whole little scenario could help to build some real life strategizing skills, making you a possible chess grandmaster or the head of the largest corporation in the world... or something like that. Those are skills I'd like to have.

I choose MP style, just because you can heal on the move with MP, but u have to heal w/a cottage or go to an inn to heal in ff1!
Speaking of magic style, i hate how u have to buy magic in ff1. How does it make any sense that u can buy magic, yet noone citizen has gathered up a multitude of other magic users to search for the cause of the decaying erth and what not. The system that I prefer with Final Fantasy games in undoubtedly the MP magic system. But, I would prefer that FFI stay 'original'. This means buying your spells and being able to cast so many spells per lvl. I don't like the idea of 'updating' a classic.

The original magic system used in the NES is one of the gameplay quirks that I've grown to love, and replacing it with MP seems just wrong somehow. It also made the game slightly more difficult, since you couldn't mix-and-match spellcasting by counting points - you had to use a little strategy when it came to what you could cast when.
That's not to say I don't like the MP system, which works very well in other games. I just miss it from the original FF. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. I prefer the MP system. It makes more sense to me, as in if you cast several powerful spells, you shouldn't still be able lots of weaker spells. Like Phoenix, I found the original system a bit restricting, but it was still an interesting idea.
